Beautiful newer hotel, but be ready to pay a lot more than you expected

The setting is gorgeous. We had an ocean view room and it was spectacular! The service was fair, better somedays than others. Housekeeping was fabulous. Bellhop service was extremely slow. The front desk is helpful. Servers at the restaurants were great at some, but poor at others. The poolside staff is excellent! Be ready to pay dearly for everything though. There are two fees on everything - VAT of 12% and a service fee of 15%. We couldn't get a straight answer from anyone on the service fee, but some other guests told us it is tip and you do not need to tip more. Overall a good experience and very beautiful.

Second visit to the Bahamas with a fair bit of reluctance on my oart as our first visit to the Bahamas was actually our worst trip ever. My wife convinced me to give the Bahamas a second chance as she saw this resort advertised online and it looked really impressive. Upon arriving, this resort does not disappoint - it really is beautifully designed and laid out. The room was gorgeous and the view as well, except we had not know about the construction to the west of the hotel which ruined the tranquility of the place (constant noise from the heavy equipment). Had we known this, we would have requested the East Tower. What really shocked us though about the whole Baha Mar experience is the ridiculous amount of taxes and service charges on EVERYTING! 12% VAT and 15% Service Charge which adds up really fast when rooms are $575 an night - we had roughly $2000 in these charges for an 8 night stay! Unless you are totally OK with paying an additional 27% on everything, avoid this place at all costs!

This resort is truly breathtaking. We are so happy we stayed at the Grand Hyatt over SLS. We looked were on the fence about which one to choose and I based my choice over the reviews. We chose a fountain view room, got upgraded to a higher floor, and it was absolutely perfect. Nothing better than catching the sunset and then watching the gorgeous fountain views right from our balcony. The staff worked incredibly hard to make sure we had the most amazing experience possible to help pull off a surprise trip and proposal. Special thanks to the staff at “the reserve”. Olivia rolle (reserve supervisor) really treated us so perfect with a special room, special greeting, and overall amazing service with anything we needed. Thank you to the Butler team (Kirkwood,Meleleah, and Perezo) for helping pull off an amazing / romantic setup for our return to the room after she said yes! This place was amazing top to bottom and very beautiful. We also enjoyed watching the Super Bowl at conference center. Special thanks to Lakishia knowles (supervisor) for taking care and specially assistancing to the VIP suerbowl party. This is a trip we will never forget, and we can’t wait to come back soon. Among the beauty and fun this resort brought, the staff is what really made this trip so special and they should be recognized for how great of a job they did.

First off, I have to say that reserved their airport pick up and it was super impressive, were transported us in a Tesla and had a really nice driver who explained about the hotel and bahamas in general. We are frequent travelers and have been all over the Caribbean (we go twice a year). First time in the Bahamas though! Once we arrived at the hotel things went downhill fast.. The lady at the front desk was just rude when I requested a crib. Instead of explaining their policy and apologizing they might not have one.. she simply told me (very annoyingly) that it was based on availability and it doesn’t matter if we requested one ahead of time, they don’t have one and if someone happens to bring one back then they will let us know but can’t promise. I’m fine with the policy but the delivery was just rude, like it’s my problem so basically my 2yo is going to sleep on the floor tonight at this 5 star hotel. I find this completely unacceptable at such a large hotel that prides itself on being one (if not the) best hotels in the Bahamas. I’m addition, she said our room is not ready yet since they are at full capacity. It was 3pm, we sent an email request for a 1 hour earlier check-in (which was ignored). I again, understand this policy but her delivery was lacking at best and she said they will call us around 4pm when the room is ready (official check-in is at 4pm). They only called at 5pm.. we had to wonder the hotel with 2 small children and couldn’t even order food since everything is charged to the room and we didn’t have one yet. She also didn’t explain ANYTHING about the hotel, they have no maps, everything is digital on a tablet (that you get in your room.. did I mention we didn’t have a room yet so had no access..) she didn’t provide any Info about restaurants, pools, activities or kids club. When asked she said we can read about it in our room 😳 I read reviews here saying we should reserve dinner asap so right after the-check-I’m-that-didn’t-happen, I approached the concierge desk ASAP and things went from bad to worst. The lady at the desk was very friendly and tried to help, nothing against her. BUT, for the next two nights ALL resort restaurants were fully booked at normal hours so for dinner she simply said we should go to the lobby Buffett. I’m sorry.. they have 20 restaurants and can’t accomodate new guests for dinner between 6-730pm? How can families with small kids be expected to dine at 9pm? My birthday is later this week and they had no availability at any of their resataurants so we are going offsite for that. It’s 5pm and we still don’t have a room.. this is a beginning of a terrible friendship with Baha Mar 😔

Don't Need the Hassles

I just signed up for trip advisor because I felt that this travel experience was worth reviewing. I usually don't even fill out guest review cards. We were a party of 3 adults. There is one, and only one, compliment I would give this resort. The manager who tried to assist us with issues was excellent. She did a great job. But she was the one and only. The service was terrible, the food mediocre and the prices ridiculous. The resort fee and service fee tacked on to the room gives you no value unless you consider two bottles of water, access to pools that are over-crowded with no chairs and a coffee maker worth $50 a day. I don't have anything else to add to the observations of others in this regard. I will not return to this resort. I work too hard to have a relaxing, enjoyable vacation with no hassles. We have traveled all over the world to luxury resorts, hotels, on cruise ships. Without the assistance of that one manager, we would have been gone after the second day. The point is, it shouldn't have come to that. This resort needs a serious overhaul, and I'm not talking about décor.
