Sick at Grand Bahia Turquesa

Stayed at Grand Bahia Turquesa from July 12- 17. Second day there I got food poisoning. On the 16th my significant other got real sick. He is now in hospital with fever, severe dehydration, vomiting, watery diarrhea and electrolyte depletion from all the diarrhea. We were very careful but still waiting to hear what is causing this. They have been taking stool samples with no result.

Stay away!

Service at the restaurants is like shouting into an abyss. You make your order and hope it comes back in an hour if you are lucky (and this includes drinks). Empty platters abound at the buffet. Replenishments happen infrequently. They run out of dry towels pool-side by 12 PM. In what world is this acceptable hotel management?!! There are much nicer, better run places in Punta Cana. Go to those.

Turquesa the poor end of this resort

When I booked this holiday I was very optimistic as it looked great all the areas of this resort the amount of pools and 2 water parks and the chance of doing different restaurants. How wrong was I day 1 checking in a pathetic time to take just to check in one family into there room. We arrived late on in the evening had been traveling for 2 days so all we wanted to do was check in to our room and go get something to eat from the buffet restaurant only to be shunned away from the door due to my sleeveless top I have never seen the likes of a buffet have a dress code. So if they really want to go up market then at least train there staff in the correct manner (This Includes Managers) I have never been in a buffet that allows there staff to walk around with there phones out reading texts or not the least clue of what side someones water glass should be dirty plates cutlery all gruby and misshapen. Why oh Why does anybody have to wait to be seated in a buffet restaurant??? The pool area has so many tiles missing the jacuzzi never worked not enough pool towels either several times I went to get towels and told they would be 20 to 30 mins before I could get a pool towel Not Grand Bahia Principe standards. I was so looking forward to booking a few other holidays with Grand Bahia Principe hotels and resorts I even looked to see if there was one in Cuba but at the time felt a bit let down as I had heard so many great stories from friends about the 2 resorts in Mexico but after this experience I would rather look elsewhere. I thought that some of the reviews where a bit rough and OTT about this place but most of the nightmare reviews are true British people are made to feel 2nd class in this dirty gruby place. I feel that this resort is going to drag down the good name of Grand Bahia Principe hotels. I know that I will never book a holiday with this company again. Since we are not American nor speak Spanish as this seems to be the only way anyone of the staff take any notice. Even after complaining to guest services about problems we had like our room not being cleaned for 3 days the mini bar not being restocked on a daily basis having to wrestle with staff just to keep a coffee cup in the morning as we wanted to get our own coffee none of this was ever dealt with not even after a written complaint did anybody care. Will this review make it's way on to the desk of someone at head office I doubt it will I get a proper response to this review from head office I doubt that also. So here is what I am going to do. I am writing to head office with an e-mail telling them the exactly everything I have written in this review and mabye just mabye some person in head office will sit up and take notice of how bad this resort really is. We were very disappointed with our recent stay. We were supposed to get a welcome package for the kids but I had to ask 4 times for it. Finally it arrived the day before we checked out. The shower was moldy, tub stopper didn’t work, 2 out of 7 days, the “mini bar” wasn’t stocked, we had to ask for toiletries and washcloths because housekeeping didn’t always strock those either. buffet was questionable at best. Most of the fruit was rotten as well as some of the meat. One morning I had slimy ham that seemed to fall apart when i touched it, so gross! We brought our own drinks to the restaurant because service was so slow or non existent. The Japanese restaurant was amazing, best meal we had all week. They did lose a carry on bag between the airport and hotel but we did manage to get it back after 4 days. The language barrier was strong and we felt like Spanish speaking people were treated better. We took a trolly to the punta Cana Lobby for an excursion but they dropped us off at the wrong lobby and we almost missed the excursion. The coffee bar in the lobby was rarely fully stocked & most of the time there were only plastic cups to use. The pools were clean and the lifeguards were awesome. The grounds were well kept and clean. I would not reccomend this hotel. I have heard good things about grand Bahia but the turquesa was terrible.

DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL , ENGLISH NOT MADE TO FEEL WELCOME

We have been going to the Dominican Republic for the past 20 yrs two to three times a year and have highly rated this place to many family and friends, we have loved it every time except for this hotel, it is enough to put anyone off going back to the Dominican Republic forever. The main restaurant you had to que to be seated and unless you went early you could be queuing for up to an hour, it has Very Poor layout and not enough seats to accommodate the amount of people with very poor service with a lot of arrogant and ignorant staff, The food although presentation was good it was either cold or Luke warm at its best even if you got there when it first opened , There was a lot of undercooked chicken and pork and many people suffered from upset stomaches due to this and was costing them $180 to see a doctor or even at the phamcacy we’re they were charging a dollar a tablet for paracetamols or $3 for one Imodium, Cold coffee serverd in main restaurant on a daily basis even when we went at opening time of the restaurant so unless you ate omelette for breakfast which is made while you wait everyday, or pasta everyday for your lunch and dinner again made while you wait you had no chance of getting a hot meal, as you can imagine after a fortnight this became very boring and very unappetising. You had people walking past your table knocking your chairs or your arms while trying to eat or drink your wine and people passing food or waving there hands above your head. Not the greatest thing to be happening while your trying to eat your meal. The Pepsi is flat from the most bars at the resort just taste like water with syrup. Alcoholic Drinks are not of a good quality probably due to flat mixers being used. Unless you are of spainish speaking origin you are overlooked and generally made to feel very unwelcome and can expect to wait at least 20-30 minutes to get serverd at the bars. Many people being served over the top of your head even though you waited there all this time. Many occasions I stood at the pool bar while the staff was on their mobile phones texting and made to wait till they finished, The entertainment through the day is almost none existent many staff about chatting up the young girls instead of doing their job and evenings are either a singer then kids disco followed by a singer or karaoke which finished at 10pm on an evening at the hotel, then you have to walk over to what they call the village which is a massive square and is used by all the 5 hotels so it’s extremely busy and almost impossible to get a seat or a drink due to lack of staff and the music is so loud it thuds off the walls due to the bass hammering through it you cannot even hear yourself think. The room we had was comfortable and spacious but the cleanliness was not great, if you had a shower and walked about in bear feet your feet would be black by the time you walked from your bathroom to the bedroom. The whirl pool bath was scratched to pieces with Staines and ring marks from buckets in it and hairs scattered about it. The only positive I can say is the grounds were kept nice and the gardeners worked very hard and kept them lovely. There is a shuttle bus service to the beach or you could walk there in about 25 minutes but this is at a different hotel but it wasn’t a very good beach often smelly and full of seaweed. Which was raked and left in piles or sometimes just left there this didn’t help with the smell. I have been honest in my review and would never go back to this hotel due to these faults even after seeing management on many occasions over the fortnight about the problems and them promising to rectify the problems with the food etc it was never done. Take what you will from this review and if you still decide to go don’t say you were not warned this is the only hotel We have ever wanted to come home after only being there 6 days and if we could of offord to change our flights home we would of done. To us English are made to feel very unwelcome at this hotel « Less Top Tip: Nowhere to go you are stuck there.
