Second time at this resort
LAURIE S.
Mar 31 2018
We stayed here last year and had a few issues but not bad enough that we did not want to go back. The Grounds are beautiful, the hotel needs some TLC but it is still very nice. The reason we won't be back is simple. Our family tried to contact us and could not reach us. they were hung up on three times. To me this is unacceptable. The WiFi didn't work well, they need a stronger signal for so many users. It kept saying it was not available.

Excellent check in at the Crystal Lounge Travis was good. Kids Club NAOKA was great and always greeted my son by name and with a smile. Hotel was clean. Patio chair needs cleaning. No slippers in room, no wash cloth until after lunch the day after check in although we called reception and was told "shortly" Asked housekeeper for an extra blanket which never arrived, we somehow shared one very small blanket for 2 beds. Otherwise hotel was good, well manicured.

Warning! All-inclusive is not what you expect and this is not a 5 star resort

Make sure you know about the Adults only luxury side, unless you want kids everywhere. And the "all-inclusive" meals including restaurants means buffets and only two night of sit down dinners which were just buffets with waiters. This place was AWFUL! Room service was a joke, a menu consisting of only a burger (awfully cooked), hot dog (terrible), cheese pizza (only before 10pm and again, awful) or chicken nuggets. I am sorry, I was embarrassed to take my girlfriend here. Only buiffets for breakfast and lunch, unless you want to pay $50 per person for them to bring breakfast to your room which looked like they sent someone to the buffet to fill a plate and bring it to you. Mini bar had 2 beers and they brought two small bottles of liquor only on day one and would not restock those, even though I showed them the card in the room said they would be restocked daily. If you really want to stay here for some strange reason, get room only and leave for meals. Anything was better than what they served and honestly a five minute drive and there are some good places to eat. The "sushi" bar was food poisoning waiting to happen, the poolside swim up bar was OK but the service was terrible and if you asked twice they scoff at you, even if you waited five minutes before reminding them and there was no one else asking for a drink. The snack bar looked like something you expect at a baseball game, but that would be an insult to stadium food. Really, I am not exaggerting here, for anyone to say this is 5 stars is either being paid to say that or has no idea what a real 5 star resort is. Everyone has their hadn out for a tip at all times, even when I was told tipping was not allowed for all-inclusive customers. They say for the 'butler" service dry cleaning is included but really only for one shirt and one pair of pants, and someone jsut flat out lied when they said complimentary laundry service. Airport transfers will mean ytou have to wait for other people at other hotels and then drop them off along the way, and no one ever told me that I had to be ready to leave on my departure day at a certain time so I had to pay $100 for a taxi. My flight was at 2pm and they wanted me to leave at 9:15, probably because they were picking up more people along the way. When a resort says transfers included, I expect other people from my hotel, not from 4 other hotels! All in all, I felt duped and while this was not incredibly expensive, it was not worth it AT ALL!!!

Thumbs Down

Have stayed at many resorts in the tropics and this was very disappointing. Room was not cleaned daily, bed made and new towels brought in but never opened shower or took out dirty wet towels. Saw roaches in hallways and 2 restaurants. 1 was walking around the bread buffet. Called 3x about shower low draining, although they said someone would be there shortly never did this happen. Took showers in slimy ankle deep water entire time. Buffet constantly running out of food, plates and bowls. Witnessed shuffle over plates by vacationers. Took 30 minutes for each coffee refill. Was told by staff this was not their busy season, would hate to see service then. Very disappointed!

The hotel was in need of significant updating. The bathrooms were disgusting. I did not find the upgraded restaurants to be worth the challenges of getting a reservation in spite of the fact that they were half empty when we arrive. The Wen was the same in all restaurants and was mediocre. The drinks were mostly juice and minimal alcohol. The swimming pool was beautifully ful and the stag, in general, helpful. The beach was small and rocky on the borders which limited the ability to go for a long walk on the beach. There was little entertainment relevant to adults. This should be listed as a family only program.

Large beautiful resort, but downsides

beautiful large resort, rocky beaches, no beach activities available, no poolside drink service, awful gym (3lb weights and some old cardio and random pieces.. if you note it is not pictured anywhere). Seaview suite was nice, and the room was fine. Mini bar had 2 Red Stripe beers, some sprite and coke. I thought rooms had liquor. Food was not the greatest. The restaurants you can book for dinner are the best part.

Best Vacation!

I was recommended to Apple Vacation by my boss. He had taken his staff to cancun last year and it was phenomenal. I was on edge on booking with them especially since 2 of my friends going was their first time to the Caribbean. Apple definitely delivered! We stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe in Jamaica and it was amazing! The room had was top floor with the view of all of the hotel pool and beach! We had a separate check in lobby they called "VIP" and went over all the amenities and everything offered in our package. We were also given to private restaurant dinners. The only downside was after checking in, our room took close to 2 hours to be ready. That was rough because we arrived on a Saturday and wanted to get our vacation started asap. Aside from that, the staff a apple recognized us in the midst of the crowd and asked if everything was ok and up to our expectations. Plus, due to my extensive research, they were able to price match and walk me through everything. Now, I am afraid to book vacations with anyone else beside Apple Vacations.

First off, the only truly negative experience was check in. But lets be honest, this happens anywhere with mass exodus and entrance of guests. Yes, it could have been communicated better. But what what really upsetting was the look of fear when the staff was approached during this process, and unfortunately rightly so. The way I witnessed some of the other guests treating staff made me apologize on their behalf. My advise: be prepared for this issue, off the lobby there is a bathroom with a shower/changing room, put a bathing suit/cover up and a pair of sandals in your carry on, leave your luggage with the wonderful bell hops and orient yourself with the resort, while grabbing a drink or two along the way! Believe everyone when they say: THIS RESORT IS HUGE. My husband and I didn't see half of the resort. Never made it to The Villiage, but did see advertisment for the disco until 2am. I will say one negative was the inconsistency of the dress code policy being enforced. We followed it, then one night after my husband seeing SEVERAL men going into the Garden Grill (amazing), Mikado, Dolce Vita, Don Pablo, all go in with dress shorts, so he tried it and we were turned away. I wasn't going to make him change, so we just went to the buffet, no big deal, just an inconvenience and some retraining could be used. We ordered room service twice, once using the app and once via phone and never took more than 30 minutes, never had any issues with house keeping, water always available. Service was some of the best there was out there. We had terrible service at the buffet one night, but if you think about it, you are on vacation for 7 days and eat ~3 meals a day, at 21 meals eating out, you are going to have bad service at least once. The food was amazing, and I am a picky eater. as a 5'2, 100lb, female I ate my weight in jerk chicken at the pool daily, don't miss out!! The variety at the buffets were so great that after one reservation snafu we just decided to continue with the buffet food.

Great beach for snorkeling!

I really enjoyed this resort and wouldn't hesitate to stay at another Grand Bahia chain. The resort was clean, the staff was friendly, the food was fantastic and the beach had amazing snorkeling. As a family with 8 year old twins we had a fun time at the Japanese Restaurant but make sure you ask to sit at the grill when you make your reservations. The Steak house was excellent! The French Restaurant would have been alright but it took almost 90 minutes for them to serve us. I heard that the Italian Restaurant was excellent too. If you are walking the beach, just before you get to the last bar, if you swim out pasted the roped off section the snorkeling is amazing. We saw a baby octopus, eel, lion fish, puffer fish, sting rays and hundreds of multicolored fish swimming among the coral reef. Beware of sea urchins. The highlight of our trip was our day trip off the resort. We went to the Blue Hole which I wouldn't recommend for children. It is a blast for teenagers and adventurous adults. I prefer Dunn's River's Falls much better which we saw many years prior. In any case, by accident the resort made our Blue Hole Reservation on the wrong day. To correct their mistake they ordered a personal cab to drive us to the Blue Hole. This is where the real fun began! Our driver's name was Oneil Bolt and he is the cousin to Olympic Athlete Hussein Bolt the runner. They even look identical. My gosh, I wish I would have met Oneil much sooner. He said even though the hotel was paying him to take us to the Blue Hole and back that we could have him for the day. That he would be delighted to take us where ever we wanted to go. He took us out shopping, he took us to where the locals buy sugar cane, this guy even took us past his old high school and to inner parts of the city that you normally wouldn't get to see as a tourist. It was fantastic! This guy is a gentleman, I felt safe with him, his car was clean and modern and of course he had that laid back Jamaican Charm. His rates are MUCH CHEAPER than if you were to rent a taxi from the hotel. If I had to do it again, I would book all my trips through him as he doesn't have a surcharge like they do at the hotel and he will take you wherever you want to go. I have kept his business card for the future. He gets business out of Montego Bay, Runaway Bay and Ochos Rios. For further info call Oneil Bolt at 876-576-1024 or email oneil_bolt@yahoo.com

Incredible week at Grand Bahia
Vanessa F,

Went on a girls trip with my daughter to the Grand Bahia in May. The resort was beautiful, the food was great, the entertainment was top notch and we had nothing but amazing service. This was my first trip to Jamaica and I will definitely return and I would return to the Bahia again. Rooms were spacious and clean with a decent view no matter where you are. There are a lot of stairs so if you are reading this and you have mobility issues this is not the resort for you. The buffet had great variety for all meals and the alacartes were also very good. Make sure you pack what you need as the prices are high on the resort if you forgot sunscreen or want some chips for example. In my opinion if you are in Jamaica, not at work and are staying at the Grand Bahia you are experiencing a little slice of heaven and you should really enjoy it!

I booked my holiday in November 2017. My plan was always to send for my grandparents to spend a lil time with me while here. I have not seen them in years. Before I left the uk I had a conversation with their sales via the phone- I was told i was only available to book for 3 nights minimum I spoke to my grandparents they could only stay 2. 22nd-24th. I called and spoke to the hotel directly and was told that 2 nights was possible but have to book direct when I get to hotel. Didn’t like or really understand why I had to wait till I got to hotel. The past 2 months I have been checking website to make sure the dates I want are available. They have been this entire time I arrived in Jamaica 21st may around 4. The first thing I did was speak to front desk about a room - was told hotel was st full capacity. when I explained was available on line, was told have to speak to manager who isn’t available until next day. 22nd today I have spent most of my day in the lobby waiting for assistance 7 am this morning I go and speak to manager to book room. Was told once again at full capacity Explained available on line Was told she would give them a call and Get back to me at 10am. 10 am came and no call Went to lobby Was told she was in a meeting. At this stage, I’m worried about my grandparents leaving their home and no room for them to come to. I try and just book the 3 days online myself, as didn’t seem to be getting much help face-2-face and my grandparents were supposed to be leaving soon Put card details in. Page advised ‘session expired’.Nothing happens. No confirmation email Go to see if Manager is back. She is. She advised that she has spoken to their sales team and there is no availability at all, only in the luxury side. $810 for two ppl for two nights. Upset and confused I go back to room to call grandparents and tell them they can’t come. They had already left. My gran very upset. Randomly decide to check bank account and notice that the £446 has been taken from my card for the room. I go back down to the lobby Advise Manager as to what has happened She advised she will call on my behalf. Waited for 30 minute, she advised she is still on hold herself n for me to go have fun and she’ll get back to me. This was at about 13:00 At 22:00 I get a call from Front office advising me that the booking went through and how my room is available! I’m upset. My holiday is ruined. And it’s only day two. right hand does not seem to know what the left is doing. It all seems a bit scammy tbh. And has left a terrible taste in my mouth. I am on holiday and I have spent to whole day, on the phone, waiting around in lobbies and writing emails. All without a resolution. If I could I would leave this hotel right now and stay somewhere else. It’s a shame as the hotel isn’t bad, but feel my view has just been tainted now
