Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica
Jul 30 2018
We had a wonderful week at the Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica. Even with the hotel being at full capacity, it never felt over crowded, we always found a place to relax and the services/staff were outstanding. The property itself was gorgeous and well taken care of. We could not have been happier with this choice and already referred 2 families that booked future trips here.

No a/c
Jul 24 2018
We had 3 rooms reserved for 7 people. Only 1 room had 2 beds when we had requested all rooms to have 2 beds (all girls traveling). One room got changed after 2 nights, the other did not. The room with 2 beds had NO A/C! After much wasted time complaining- that room got changed at 6pm on our last night. Three people with ONE bed.

Stay away!

Eastern airlines was late, but after finding out they were actually dynamic international airways who has one of the worst reviews for tardiness online it didn't come as a shock, honestly I was just glad they showed up. The hotel was horrible! Within 10 minutes at the hotel the bellhop attempted to extort me for money saying he would, "lose our bags" if I didn't tip him. The internal transfer service was terrible and he refused to do his job leaving my wife and I on our own to find our room. The room was dirty with hair all over the bathroom after we complained the room was maintained at a reasonable level. For those that have made it this far into this review: BEWARE the staff is extremely rude and racist! Expect to be put at the back of the line at bars and restaurants if you are white. We only had one staff smile at us. The rest would walk right through you if you got in their way! They wouldn't move or care they just ran into a guest. Also if you are a family that isn't interested in drugs stay away from this hotel! Weed, cocaine and heroin were everywhere! The hotel even had a special area near the beach for drug dealers to stand! Not family friendly at all. On our trip back Eastern airways was 6 hours late! A fine ending to a disappointing trip! Will never go back or recommend to others. Spend your money elsewhere!

Second time at this resort
Mar 31 2018
We stayed here last year and had a few issues but not bad enough that we did not want to go back. The Grounds are beautiful, the hotel needs some TLC but it is still very nice. The reason we won't be back is simple. Our family tried to contact us and could not reach us. they were hung up on three times. To me this is unacceptable. The WiFi didn't work well, they need a stronger signal for so many users. It kept saying it was not available.

Hotel was one of the nicest that we have stayed in. Food was fantastic, staff was always smiling and willing to help anytime. I would recommend to anyone looking to book in Jamaica.

Excellent check in at the Crystal Lounge Travis was good. Kids Club NAOKA was great and always greeted my son by name and with a smile. Hotel was clean. Patio chair needs cleaning. No slippers in room, no wash cloth until after lunch the day after check in although we called reception and was told "shortly" Asked housekeeper for an extra blanket which never arrived, we somehow shared one very small blanket for 2 beds. Otherwise hotel was good, well manicured.

Warning! All-inclusive is not what you expect and this is not a 5 star resort
Sep 08 2017
Make sure you know about the Adults only luxury side, unless you want kids everywhere. And the "all-inclusive" meals including restaurants means buffets and only two night of sit down dinners which were just buffets with waiters. This place was AWFUL! Room service was a joke, a menu consisting of only a burger (awfully cooked), hot dog (terrible), cheese pizza (only before 10pm and again, awful) or chicken nuggets. I am sorry, I was embarrassed to take my girlfriend here. Only buiffets for breakfast and lunch, unless you want to pay $50 per person for them to bring breakfast to your room which looked like they sent someone to the buffet to fill a plate and bring it to you. Mini bar had 2 beers and they brought two small bottles of liquor only on day one and would not restock those, even though I showed them the card in the room said they would be restocked daily. If you really want to stay here for some strange reason, get room only and leave for meals. Anything was better than what they served and honestly a five minute drive and there are some good places to eat. The "sushi" bar was food poisoning waiting to happen, the poolside swim up bar was OK but the service was terrible and if you asked twice they scoff at you, even if you waited five minutes before reminding them and there was no one else asking for a drink. The snack bar looked like something you expect at a baseball game, but that would be an insult to stadium food. Really, I am not exaggerting here, for anyone to say this is 5 stars is either being paid to say that or has no idea what a real 5 star resort is. Everyone has their hadn out for a tip at all times, even when I was told tipping was not allowed for all-inclusive customers. They say for the 'butler" service dry cleaning is included but really only for one shirt and one pair of pants, and someone jsut flat out lied when they said complimentary laundry service. Airport transfers will mean ytou have to wait for other people at other hotels and then drop them off along the way, and no one ever told me that I had to be ready to leave on my departure day at a certain time so I had to pay $100 for a taxi. My flight was at 2pm and they wanted me to leave at 9:15, probably because they were picking up more people along the way. When a resort says transfers included, I expect other people from my hotel, not from 4 other hotels! All in all, I felt duped and while this was not incredibly expensive, it was not worth it AT ALL!!!

If you are looking for an authentic Jamaican experience, that is not the place to go

I'm rating this hotel average. If you are looking for an authentic Jamaican experience, Grand Bahia Principe is not the place. I have travelled to Jamaica on many occasions and have stayed at other resorts, mainly Jamaica Grande (Moon Place in Ocho Rios), and the one thing I've always loved about that resort while vacationing is the atmosphere. From the time you enter the resort to the day you leave, you hear Reggae around the clock, the people are friendly, and the food is always delicious. Not at Grand Bahia. Spanish music was the main music played, and when that wasn't playing the place was quiet. Definitely not a festive place. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Spanish music but I didn't get that Jamaican vibe that I was looking forward to. The service received at Grand Bahia was average. I did receive excellent service from the staff that cleaned the rooms and from most of the employees at the resort but the front desk was another story. They were dishonest and were not accommodating at all. We arrived at the hotel around 10:30 on a Saturday morning, checked in and was told that there were no room available and they will let us know when there were. We did not receive any welcome or rum bunch, they offered us beach towels and told us we could change in the bathroom if we wanted to go to the pool and gave us wrist bands for the buffet. We constantly checked at the front desk and were given all kinds of excuses why the rooms were not available. We ended up hanging out in the hotel lobby along with many other guest until close to 3:30 (check-in time), before we were given rooms. Mind you, there were many people checking out before 9:00 am every morning. So, my first day of vacation was wasted. As far as the food goes, it was edible but I have had much better food at other resorts in Jamaica. I have to say, the one thing I really enjoyed about the resort were the pools and beach, they were nice. My future vacations in Jamaica will not be at Grand Bahia, I would rather spend a little more money and stay at a better resort.

Excellent hotel with amazing food!!

I was at the Grand Bahia Principe on August 05-12 2018. The food was amazing and the hotel was so clean. All the staff were so friendly and helpful and the A/C in the bedrooms did work. Lots of entertainment and something to do every night . All these negative reviews that people write none of them were true. I definitely will go back and also recommend this hotel to anyone!

Just Ok- Expected More

I stayed August 9th 2018- August 12th Check In- The check in process was very slow and inefficient using paper. Perhaps have more staff checking members in or switch to computer systems WIFI- Did not realize wifi was only available in lobby prior to arriving. Also the wifi did not consistently work and was very slow. I had to keep signing in and out Gym- The gym was decent but equipment was outdated. Also it was very small for the size of the resort and looked nothing like the photos Restaurants- We were told that most of the restaurants were fully booked when we arrived on Thursday. Looking at the restaurants during our stay, they did not look booked they looked quite empty! Also, I was not aware that we could only dine at one restaurant for a 4 night stay. I didnt experience this at other resorts We did dine at the Italian restaurant Dolce Vito- and it was a great experience and the food was really good Food- The food was decent, but could have been better prepared. Need more turkey products. Also, I felt that there were limited Jamaican cuisine options and we were in Jamaica! Alcoholic drink- Better brands of alcohol, and less juice in drinks Snack Bar in room- Add actual snacks to snack bar, not just drinks! Gift Shop- Wayyy to expensive, a single serving size of Blue Diamond almonds was $5 (us dollars) and a single snack pouch of cheese its cost $2 The beach area - This was a great area, more than enough beach chairs and space on the beach. Along with the beach party with live band and food was a great experience, and the food was good! Staff was friendly and helpful! Rooms were spacious and clean! Welcome gift was very nice! Overall- this was not my ultimate best or favorite resort experience, as I have been to a few others in other countries. Beware of small print when booking. The resort is decent for a decent price, but I would not return.

Family hotel, slightly budget

Great family friendly hotel however it did feel a bit budget. We had a few issues checking in, and then had to swap rooms as it was absolutely ridden with mosquitoes. However all in all lots of eatery options, lovely pools and entertainment. Set in a lovely location, Runaway Bay for an evening swim was just idyllic.

Amazing Family Vacation

Stayed at this resort the week of July 29 - August 5 with my husband and 2 kids (aged 14 and 11). We had an amazing time. The food was great and the staff were amazing. There was one waiter at the Italian restaurant, Adonis, that deserves to be pointed out. He was beyond polite. Amazing person overall! And our maid, Odine was wonderful also.
