There were people complaining around us..BUT we were four friends getting away from home for total relaxation..and we got it. The food was excellent...we did not have to cook or clean. First of all, this is my second time in Jamaica and the first time I stayed at Riu Ocho Rios. I've also went to Dominican staying at Riu Palace and I have to say this resort falsely advertises their resort as a 5-star and all inclusive. As far as I know, all inclusive means all drinks and food are free and available 24/7 but this is not the case unless you pay for their premium membership. The first night my baby wasn't feeling well and was screaming all day. So we figured it's better that we stay in the room rather than go into the buffet restaurant with a crying baby. So we ordered room service and was denied because we are not premium members unless we pay a minimum of $25 each time we order room service. Only house wines and jamaican beer are free, all other brand name wines and beer you have to pay extra (not the case at Riu). Plus you have to pay $6/night for a safe, which is included at Riu. The first room we had was terrible. Mini fridge was absolutely empty and had to tell front desk twice before getting it stocked. There were lots of mosquitoes in the room, we were constantly killing them. The walls had dead mosquitoes and blood stains. We requested for a room change and had no problem getting a new one which was nice. There are a total of 6 a la carte restaurants and you are only limited to 3 per stay. At Riu, you can go to as many as you'd like. Niece's kid was screeching because he was hungry and the snack bar made them wait 30 minutes because it is not supposed to open until 12 noon. They weren't even allowed to grab a bun. Service at buffet was inconsistent. Many times we had to go get our own utensils or ask for them. Some mornings you are served coffee or tea, others you have to go get them yourself. We arrived there at 8pm, niece requested a crib, had to call them 10 times and finally got a crib at midnight. The resort is not infant and handicap friendly. To get around you have to go far around the place. There should be a ramp per stairs access. Niece got married at the resort and only one restaurant does wedding receptions whereas I got married at Riu Palace in Dominican and we got to pick the a la carte restaurant we wished to dine at. There are no honeymoon suites at Gran Bahia Principe because all rooms are the same. At Riu Palace, we were upgraded to a honeymoon suite on the day of our wedding and had a private outdoor jacuzzi. Overall, this resort should not be advertised as a 5-star all inclusive because you can get better service and experience somewhere else. Don't waste your money and time there!
