Overall impression is good. Food was not very stimulating after the 3rd day. Same old. Everywhere you go is either by on-grounds transport or walk. All buildings look the same so get used to being lost. Felt uncomfortable to walk at night where transit goes as the roadways/walkpaths are narrow and the transport only use minimal lights. The Coba was nice but would prefer closer stay to beach. The a la carte restaurants were hyped up. Nothing special. Had to wait while hardly full. Overall good rating.

Don't be overwhelmed by the size of the resort. We were able to figure it out within a day and it's really nice to be able to get away from everyone if you want. The food was wonderful. The liquor availability for the privilege club is an absolute joke. That's my only complaint about the entire trip. there is only 2 places we could get premium liquor without being charged even though we were part of the privilege Club. I would definitely go back and recommend the resort anyone.

Hotel was nice, the number of towels in our room kept going down and we had to call and ask for more. Drinks were good, but all of the food left out to eat that was supposted to be hot was cold...need to get some heaters! Side trips that were to popular locations were good. The ones that were for .. The ones that were for less popular destinations (i.e. scuba trips) were very bad: late on pick-up and return, wrong info given on prices, totally disorganized.

We can't believe that after all these years, the trips just continue to get smoother.These trips are so flawless it is amazing. We never have repeated hotels until our most recent trip when we returned to the Bahia Principe Coba. It is actually several resorts in one which makes it a destination in itself. Really nice buffet and pools beaches etc. We've see negative comments about the trams. The trams are great!! They are always available, convenient, and wisk you to all parts of the resort in no time. I believe this will be our family vacation spot from now on. Thank you to the folks at Apple and the Gran Bahia Principe for another great family vacation

The overall experience was good with the biggest complaint not being told necessary facts in time to act on them. It was assumed we knew many of the rules and only found out after the fact. There needs to be a fact sheet given at arrival or before. The staff at lobby were not very helpful or available. Apple hours were limited and misleading about prices on excursions. We were told one price and then when we booked it told a higher one. Food was mediocre at best at buffets, Gourmet restaurant very good, great service, Portofino was good also, Pescadora was poor with much of it inedible and a very annoying waiter who was intrusive and inappropriate. The signs at pools to not save lounges were ignored and so impossible to get a lounge with only broken ones not covered with towels but few people. The rooms were kept clean but the smell of mildew very strong--it took 2 days of airing outside to get the smell out of beach tote. Our towels never got dry and clothes felt damp. The beach and tram system were both great and the overall appearance very nice and staff friendly for the majority of places and encounters. At check in it would have been helpful to have been given an orientation or information sheet listing activities etc. I don't know that I would recommend it to others.

The only problems we had were the premium buffett was closed during our stay that we payed extra for. Disappointed in that and when we were told to check in with apple on Friday before we left on Saturday apple was off on that day a little nervous but hotel helped call apple to find out when we wer .. I have traveled Europe and 40 of the 50 states and nothing compared to my visit here. The staff exceeded my expectations. I can tell you everything was first class. My boyfriend and I went to this resort in August of 2012. The weather wasnt the greatest and rained most of our vacation but we made the best of it. First when picking this resort you need to know that there is 4 resorts in the one location so LOTS OF WALKING.. of course if your club "premier" there is a golf cart around all the time.. we had to wait a while for a ride to the beach or to the a la carte restaurants. Beach is far from the villas... CHECK IN- they welcome you with a beverage..floor in the lobby is very slippery when wet I fell one day..be careful ROOMS- clean, jet tub, bed is ok kind of hard, air conditioning works good, tv is old (needs upgrade, not that we watched TV) most have a iguana that sits outside of your door (we seen at least 1 outside each villa every day) ENTERTAINMENT- GREAT! VERY fun always something going on FOOD- was ok.. LOCATION- VERY FAR from the airport or excursions.. if your young and looking for an exercusion/ entertainment definietly go to COCO BONGOS.. very worth it!!!! best party ever! pool was great! A La Carte resaurants were good.. buffets were not good..always picked over and cold We went through west jet vacations and there was a staff member on site to help us which was great! TIME SHARE STAFF is annoying they are constantly stopping you in the main lobby..get rid of them! free stuff is not worth the hassle not the best I have ever stayed at and i probably will not go back..too big too much walking for a vacation that i wanted to be relaxing at.

From the Wisconsin Girls! This was my second time at the GBP Coba and once again it was amazing! I traveled from January 3rd-10th. I traveled with 2 friends (19, and 20) who also thought the resort was amazing. I think the only complaint was that we had to leave :/ The Room -We stayed for the second time in 23A by the quiet pool, but it is very central to the activities pool, buffet, a la cartes, and main lobby. Very good pick in my opinion -The room was kept immaculate the whole entire time by ruben who cleaned and tidied our room everyday! -Each day it was stocked with sodas, beer, 1 bag of chips, and a snickers -Used the whirlpool tub everyday with no problems -A couple of nights we got deserts, towel art, champagne, tequila, and fresh fruit! A la Cartes -We originally had 3 scheduled via email but when we arrived we were told to go to the main lobby public relations desk to book. When we did they were all rescheduled for a later time like 8 or 9pm which we didn't understand but we moved on. -We had an apple vacations at the mediterranean which is where we were given extra dinners somehow which was very nice and gave us a chance to explore more -We ate at the mediterranean, portofino, gran tortuga, and the mikado, we missed the last one at the Dolce Vita -The best ones were mikado and gran tortuga -request ahead of time for the tepanyaki show table Buffets -Upon arrival our room wasn't ready so we ate at the smaller buffet at the premier lobby which was good but had less variety compared to the kukulcan buffet but, we had the best waiter Andres-he is so nice, helpful, and a sweetheart! -The kukulcan buffet is absolutely delicious, but it takes a couple days to figure out what you like and don't like -there was always variety and never enough room to try everything at once! Overall very good Snackbars -after the disco every night we ate at the snack bar which had a limited food choices but they were very sufficient (try the chicken tacos) -it does take a little bit time to get your food because it was 3 or 4 in the morning but Gamiel and Osmar will help you with anything you need! they are absolutely amazing -During the day they have more options including chips and fresh guacamole -Tulum and Coba snack bars are great choices Beach -Coba beach is the best out of the 3 and the least rockiest -even though its a little rocky its still very easy to get into the ocean and participate in water aerobics -everyday there were activities like zumba, contests, aerobics, dancing, and music -there are people who come around with exotic animals that you can take pictures with and buy in the lobby for around $13 USD. -Jose Ermilio Vasquez Loeza is the absolute BEST bartender in all of coba, he is so friendly, nice, passionate, and an all around great person to sit around and conversate with. Thank you Jose for another great vacation! -his co-worker Javier is also very up and coming Activities pool -Very fun and exciting everyday -I believe its Tuesdays and Saturdays we looked forward to the most because they had pool parties with music, beer drinking contests, other contests, and so much fun. -Thank you to Sergio, eduardo, luis, tony, luigi and all animators for such a fun time Entertainment -every night in the lobby there is a terrace party with a bar and dance floor and DJ where there is zumba, dancing, karaoke, and other fun things to do along with all the great animators -every night in the theater there is showtime with shows like superstar, michael jackson, latin night, etc. -After the theater show there is the hacienda with a live band who is amazing and dancing on the terrace with the animators who are so fun, thank you viktor, israel, weritho, and isaiahs -After the hacienda the disco opens with lots of fun house music where you can drink and dance till 2am Transportation -the resort is huge but there are trolleys to take you absolutely anywhere! Tips -Go to the Coco Bongo show and book through the resort -take the collectivo into playa del carmen as it is only 3 USD per way and very safe People -ALL of the people at the GBP are extremely talented at what they do and make this resort worth coming back to year after year -BIG thanks to Nadia (your great), Felipe, and Felix in public relations, Jose and Javier at coba playa, Julian at the premier lobby bar, ruben are maid, Sergio, eduardo, luis, tony, luigi, and gabriel in coba , viktor, israel, weritho, and isaiahs in tulum, Mateo the trolley driver at premier, osmar and gamiel at the snack bar, jesus at the swim up bar, lucio at the activities pool, felipe, bartolo, and anibar at the Mediterranean, Alejandro at the coba theater bar, and ulises are apple vacations rep...you are all absolutely amazing and made our vacation so great once again. We try to travel to an all inclusive resort at least once a year. We have visited 3 Riviera Maya resorts in 2011-2012. (See previous reviews) I loved Grand Bahia Principe Coba. If you are looking for a resort that offers good customer service, great amenities and good food for a reasonable price - this is a place to be. Beautiful property includes 3 resorts accessable by trams and by foot - Coba, Akumal, Tulum. I like walking, so I did not mind the distance between them, however, you can easily get lost, since this resort is huge. Trams are very regular, so getting from place to place is not a problem. Food was good, much better than at previous resorts (Palladium and Sandoz Playacar) that we stayed at. New Year's celebration was done superbly. However, I will not recomend any of Ala Carts - you are better off dining in buffets. The major downfall of this resort is the swimming area of the beach. There is no swimmable beach in front of Coba, if you want to swim in the sea you need to go to either Tulum or Akumal and by the time you get there all umbrellas are taken. Moreover, and this was very very dissapointing, there is no swimmable area where you can feel sea depth at the resort at all. There are huge wave breakers positioned a few meters from the beach, thus if you are a swimmer you are never at more than 1 meter depth at any time. Thus, if you like using the sea as basically salt water pool, then you are OK. Also note that SPA is not free, not even your basic sauna and hot room.

We stayed at the Gran Bahia Coba from Jan 2/13 - Jan 9/13. Upon our arrival we discovered a clean and well manicured resort. Over the years our family has travelled to many of the popular sun destinations including Hawaii. We are happy to tell you all the pools (sparkling clean), the resort and the A la Carte restaurants could compete with some Hawaiian resorts. We paid a little extra for Royal Golden Premier section (request villa 26A - 3rd Floor - Pool view - quiet, nice view of the pool close to everything) which was well worth it. The check in took no more than 10 minutes (as opposed to with the entire bus load) with a freshly prepared welcome drink waiting for us. You will be asked to pay a 40.00 deposit for the safe (just in case you loose the key) and the daily safe charge is 5.00 - rent the safe you will be happy you did. The check out took no more than 10 minutes and there were no surprise charges (deposit returned) we paid 35.00 for the safe - very well done. I would strongly recommend that you email guest services or Felix Schlokat - Guest services manager two to three weeks before your trip and request your a la carte reservations and room request. Felix was outstanding - organized everything for us - sent us confirmation #s - reserved a beautiful room - a big shout out goes to Felix for organizing a worry free stay at the resort. The buffets on all three resorts are big - we preferred Coba's buffet - the most pickiest eaters will find something here to eat. Freshly prepared stations including omelette, eggs for breakfast, various grilled meats, bbq ribs, mexican, pizzas. The grilled fish in all the restaurants was very good. Many selections...Our 11 year old loved the food and freshly prepared fruit shakes. Now the highlights: Where do we start - to get your attention very early on let's talk about the service and the food. No complaints at all about the resort service. Very friendly staff. We ate Le Arlequin - all the appetizers were good, my wife and I ordered the duck - very good. We also at at Mikado (make sure you request show table) - entertaining with lots of food - the spring rolls, sushi, the filet mignon with seafood (shrimp) as entree very good. And then there is Le Gourmet, what can I say but, WOW - we reserved this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. We made some friends a few days before and after a great day at Tulum ruins and Tulum beach (I will tell you more in a minute) we found out that our new friends had reservations at Le Gourmet for an earlier seating. We invited them to join my birthday celebration and suggested they call Le Gourmet to see if they could change their reservation. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Abesaid (I hope I spelled his name right) the manager at Le Gourment... he was very nice and seated us at our table for four...no sight of our new friends - so we determined that they could not change their reservation. We were served our welcome drinks and then what a surprise.. Abesaid came back and asked if it was my birthday? After I confirmed, he said we have prepared something special for you and your family. We followed Abesaid to a private dining room especially prepared for my family and who was waiting for us? Our new friends...we were treated like royalty by Abesaid and his staff (they created a memory to last a life time) - we had so much fun, the music was fantastic and the food was amazing complete with a birthday cake and song - my wife and I ordered Duck a l'orange - it was among the best we ever ate. We were served fresh foie gras, various apps complete with specially prepared drinks, pastas, garlic breads for the kids..our friend ordered the filet mignon and he said it was amazing. We paid extra for some bottle of nice wine and it was good. A very big thank you goes out to Abesaid and his staff - this is a can't miss restaurant - make sure you make reservations here you will not be disappointed and look out for Abesaid..all the restaurants are good and the staff go out of their way to make you feel happy...Le Gourmet you are top shelf. Thank you The Pools - there are over 10 pools on all three resorts...take a day and plan to take a dip in each one (lots of fun) - snack bars and drinks every where you go....make sure you visit the Dolphin swim pool at Tulum Resort. There is a trolley system that takes you all over the resorts and to the market - in a day or two you will have it figured it out. Our room was a 10 minute walk from the COBA beach. Great snorkeling just off the beach (lots of fish - we save stingrays and turtles, protected coral reef obey the signs) - start at the wave breaking wall and snorkel along the buoy line. If you have kids they will love running up and down on the wave break wall. Bring water shoes....some spots have some small rocks...makes it easy walk around and to snorkel without flippers. Drinks - great drinks - top shelf liquor as much as you want....find your favorite bartender if you are not happy just ask for more or how you like it and they will get it done for you (Mojitos at the lobby bar outstanding). Golf Course right across the road beautiful.. We also played tennis most mornings - the courts are in good condition reservations 24 hrs required - courts are busy in the a.m. Entertainment - A CAN'T miss is the Michael Jackson show - starts at 10 pm - very well done. Nightly dancing or just hanging out at the Coba Lobby - lots of fun. Hacienda Market (take color trolley) Attractions: Do not stress yourself out renting a car. You can travel to every local tourist spot by Collectivo. To get to the Collectivo - go to front lobby catch the color trolley to Hacienda Market walk out to the road and look for Collectivo (public transport) look for the name Collectivo printed on the van in red or blue. Don't take the private run vans they charge more You can get to almost any tour spot except (Chichen Itza).....To get to Tulum Ruins (15mins) 25 pesos per person walk across the road and catch Collectivo. When you get to the Ruins you will have to walk about 750 m. General admission is 57 pesos each (cheap - don't have to do the tours) - we did not pay for a guided tour and were done in 1.5 hours...amazing place with fantastic views of the ocean at the top/behind the ruins. Go early catch the bus no later than 8 a.m. it gets crowed and hot. From there plan to go to Tulum Beach (Playa Pariso) public beach, one of the nicest powdered sand beaches we have walked on...the water is very nice temp, turquoise color...great for swimming (if you have a folding cooler at home bring it with you on your trip) pack some cold water, cervezas etc...so you don't have to pay on the beach. To get there catch taxi outside of the exit at Tulum Ruins 40 pesos ask them to take to Playa Pariso. When finished catch the taxi and negotiate ride back to Coba lobby for 250 pesos (20 min ride)...you can't walk or take Collectivo from this beach (if you walk to the road 3 miles)...this beach is a can't miss...just pay and do it - cheap one day of fun. Go snorkeling at Cenotes Dos Ojos (cross road catch Collectivo) featured on the Discovery Channel - snorkeling in caves awesome...pay 400 pesos - you will receive a wet suit (wear it the water is cold), life jacket, flash light and a tour guide and snorkeling gear. Just do it you will thank me for it...Collectivo from Coba 25 pesos. Go visit Play del Carmen - leave at 3 p.m. from Coba - too hot in the day. Nice town - 40 mins by Collectivo 35 pesos per person (catch Collectivo in front of the Hacienda market don't cross the road). Walk down to 5th avenue lots of restaurants, music, banks and shopping - not much bartering the vendors have it figured it out (maybe 20%). We ate fresh lobsters 1 peso per gram -ask to see them cook for it you so you don't get ripped off on size...remember where the Collectivo dropped you off...last Collectivo leaves 11 p.m. Transportation to and from the Airport - we took private transfer (USA transfer) 135 USD return...we were at the hotel in more than half the time versus tour bus.They will stop pick up refreshements for you...we were checked in, we ate lunch and were swimming before our tour bus arrived at the resort. USA transfer excellent company - will use them every time. Go enjoy yourself - an awesome resort (in a beautiful location) with staff that will do it's best to make you happy ....we will return thanks Gran Bahia Coba

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. This is the first time that i have stayed at this line of resorts. I travel 2-3 times a year, at 5 star or plus resorts and this was by far the worst. The maid had broken into my room 2 times and had returned my stuff once. I told front desk and they said that there is nothing that they can do about it. I have tried to get a hold of head office and have sent them COBA e-mails to the manger and to public relations for the hotel and no one has respond. I had my I phone 4s stolen out of my room and the safe was unlocked when i came back to my room it was $1100 cash that I payed not even 2 weeks prior. I will never trust this line of resorts again.
