Great week at the GR Solaris. Very friendly staff, excellent food options for vegetarians, and very accomodating for a later (free) checkout. Only complaint was the birds—bird poop was sometimes around/in the pool. Probably one of the nicest beaches I’ve ever been too!

Hotel Room and Air reservation
Apr 08 2018
We booked a room for three. We were assigned a room with a king bed. We had to request an extra bed. Other rooms within our group were desugned for three with a pull down bed. Only two bathrobes were provided. Again had to ask for a third. On check out we were asked if we were offered a different room. Not sure why this was not asked prior but the reservation was clearly for three. Our reservation for seat assignment was also split. We were not seated together for our final leg. This was unaaceptable to me and I was told that it was Apple who booked the seats. To sit together we would have had to pay more.

The staff and service at GR Solaris is excellent. If you make an attempt to speak in Spanish, they will shower you with service even though most employees speak excellent english. The fine dining experience was very good and highly recommended. The property itself is a bit worn and in need of some updating as it is over 30 yeears old and compared to the sister resort next door that we visited.

Been to this property many times. The hotel is just the right size - not too big and not too small. There are many service staff members that do nothing but work hard to earn your respect. Among them Mikay, Irving, Carlos Cen, Gilberto, Carlos. Hernando the pool barkeep is a character. They all do a wonderful job. After coming to this property up to 8-9 times before, we were looking forward to our “repeater” tee-shirts - not to be found. Really? Otherwise- if your can’t have a good time here, you’re missing the boat.

This is probably one of the cleanest friendliest resorts we have stayed in the only negatives were very poor quality food and variety of food offered me the mattress was harder than the tile floor. The staff was over and above friendly and resort was impeccable clean.

Good hotel... definitely not a gold star
Feb 02 2017
Our stay at the GR Solaris was good. We chose the hotel for the gold star rating and it was probably a4-5 red apple hotel. Therefore we were disappointed because of our expectation that it would be more luxurious. The beds were ok. Lamp shades hung funny because they were rusted and the outlets were loose on the wall. Not big problems, but our expectations were high. The food was good but it took a few days to figure out what we liked to eat. The staff was nice, but not very encouraging for participation. We had a nice time, but I doubt we would go back.

Three and a half stars, by a Cancun veteran

I love the beach, so I go to Cancun at least once or twice a year. I always choose all-inclusive resorts in the Hotel Zone. I think all-inclusive hotels are a great deal, regardless of the airfare. This time, we were looking for a Spring Break getaway, and I found a good rate for the GR Solaris hotel (my buddy and I stayed for 5 days / 4 nights). This was my third stay at this hotel, and we enjoyed every minute of our vacation. The level of service from management and staff was excellent. HOTEL: The hotel appears to have been built in the 1980’s, but is still in very good condition. The staff was polite and professional. Almost every staff member I passed greeted me. The hotel was very clean, and we frequently saw employees cleaning, painting, and tending to the landscaping. We did notice some cracked tiles on the hallway floors and in the pool, but this did not affect anything overall. There is a small gym on the property, and the equipment appeared to be upgraded since the last time I visited this hotel. This might seem like a strange comment, but the elevator service was very good in this hotel—the elevators usually responded to your call within seconds, and they operated quietly and quickly. ROOMS: About half the rooms face (or view) the ocean, the others face the lagoon. Unless you pay an upcharge, you will likely have a lagoon view. Since I was a repeat visitor to this hotel, the front desk kindly upgraded me to an ocean-view room. I prefer a room on an upper floor, but since it was Spring Break, I was not able to get a room on an upper floor this time. They did give me a nice ocean view room on the second floor of the hotel, overlooking the pool. The room also had a newer flat-screen TV, and free use of the in-room safe. FYI, almost all of the TV channels were in Spanish. There is a small refrigerator in the room, and it is stocked with water, soda, and beer. We typically used all the water bottles, but if you ask, they will refill the fridge. There are no overhead fans in the rooms, but our air conditioning worked extremely well. FOOD: The food was good in the buffet and excellent in the premium restaurants (we had dinner once at Marco Polo, and once at Rosmarinus). It is fairly easy to get reservations, but you must go to the Marco Polo to reserve a dinner time at the premium restaurants. BARS: We usually had no trouble ordering drinks. The drinks were very good (we always ordered premium brands). The swim-up bar was usually pretty busy, and we sometimes waited a few minutes to get drinks. There is a walk-up bar near the pool/beach that was open all day long. The lobby bar was not too busy, even at night, and we usually got served immediately. The drinks were usually good and strong. The staff was excellent. The bartenders will usually remember what you drink. As always, I recommend tipping for better service. NOTE: A few changes since the last time I visited this hotel in 2016: The policy is that they now do not serve any alcohol until 11 AM. Also, the drink cups were smaller this time, instead of the larger cups, they now serve most drinks in a very small 5 oz cup. POOLS: The pools were nice—two large pools for families, and a smaller "hidden" pool for adults only. There is a swim-up bar at the main pool. There are screened areas and large umbrellas near the pools for those of us who want some protection from the sun. There are plenty of lounge chairs, if you get there in the morning. Great pool staff and fun entertainment every day at the main pool. Kids can play in the main pool, or there is a kids’ club for the kids to do fun activities every day. The hotel does have an outdoor poolside buffet in the afternoon, which was very convenient, especially when you are starving but still dripping wet from a swim. BEACH: The ocean and beach area were fine, and the sand and water were very nice. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Cancun hotel zone. The staff would rake and sweep the sand by the beach each morning to clean up seaweed and litter. We did see some vendors on the beach, but they were not pushy. ENTERTAINMENT: The hotel had very good evening entertainment, and the shows were different each night. The entertainment started at 9 PM, and only ran until 10 PM. The only night without a live show was Sunday, when they host karaoke in the lobby bar, and even that was decent. There is no disco on the property, like some of the other Cancun hotels, although there is a small dance floor in the lobby bar. ETC: This hotel is located on the main boulevard passing through the Hotel Zone. You can take the city bus for about one US dollar and get to almost anywhere in Cancun. The shopping areas are very close. The busses don’t have AC, but it’s still not a bad ride. We almost never use a taxi in Cancun. The tap water in Cancun is treated and is safe to drink. Once more, I would like to mention that even though many hotels here are completely "all-inclusive", I always bring $100 or more in US $1 and $5 bills for tipping the waiters and housekeeping staff. I find that I get better service and I hope makes a small difference for the people in Mexico who work hard for much less dough than we make in the US. Note: I shop around a lot, and I booked this particular trip through and had great service from that website.

Not for Foodies!

It was a decent resort but dont expect too much. The place was clean and staff was nice as most of the resorts are. My biggest complaint is the food. We struggled to eat good food for the entire 5 days. Every meal was very basic and had a very small selection of fruits and vegetables. They didnt have anything exotic like you would expect from a resort in a place that has an abundance of exotic fruit. They didnt have mangoes, figs, passion fruits, nothing like that. Im actually able to find better fruits in New England where its 20 degrees farenheit. Also the eating schedule was odd. There was one night that we went to have dinner around 7:30 and they made us wait 30 minutes even though the place was have empty. The beer was not cold enough to enjoy and had a taste almost like they didnt clean the cups well enough or didnt rinse them well enough. Overall it was decent but I probably wouldnt choose them again.

Definitely going back!

Highly recommend GR Solaris. It was great for the price, the staff was super friendly and amazing especially Freddy and Ruben from the pool, they made the expensive 10x better. The entertainment group was great and they even accompany you to the clubs so that was a plus.

Dietary Restrictions - Far Exceeded My Expectations!!
MamaTheresa3, Madison, Wisconsin

My 19 year old daugher and I planned a mother-daughter get away and I chose this resort. A week and a half before leaving, my daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease. Since my other two kids both have food allergies and we've taken a number of tropical all-inclusive trips I already knew the struggle of traveling to these places while dealing with dietary restrictions. When my family traveled before, I would pre-contact resorts and try to get help with feeding my children and I had never gotten a response. I would talk with staff when we get there and they just didn't understand. Both my other kids suffered accidedntal exposures on other trips. So when my daughter got diagnosed just before our trip I was really nervous about her being able to eat safely. I decided to reach out to GR Solaris through Facebook messenger and to my surprise they replied back to me quite quickly. The very friendly person put me in touch with Yessie, their guest services representative. I exchanged several emails with Yessie and she assured me we'd be taken care of. Yessie was waiting for us when we got there! We met with her exclusivley and she set up a meeting with us to meet with the head chef. We were able to plan out all of my daughter's meals ahead of time. Whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted! The chef was so wonderful and told us he would make sure she got whatever she wanted! They would literally make her whatever she wanted! And they did! Every restaurant we walked into they knew who she was and they commented that they had her food ready, whatever it was. IT WAS AMAZING!! The food was soooo good too!! They really exceeded our expectations for taking care of this dietary restriction. They made her gluten free french toast, gluten free chocolate cake, Margherita pizza, chicken fajitas, pasta, special desserts, etc. She was stuffed the entire trip. We can't thank Yessie and the chef and cooking staff enough for this trip. You all really were simply amazing! We are forever grateful!! We will be recommending this resort to everybody. As for the rest of the resort, it was a great choice! Very friendly staff, very good food for all-inclusive, always lots of people working at the resort cleaning etc. so it always looked nice and was clean. Good entertainment, good pool area, beautiful beach. Just a good choice. :)
