At the center of the Hawaiian archipelago, a few miles west of Maui, the tiny island of Lanai is an unspoiled paradise of spectacular sea coast and enchanting highland forest. The island is 98% privately owned, providing a sense of uncrowded, natural calm unique within the Hawaiian Islands. A place of deep cultural significance, Lanai features many historic sites, old fishing villages, and unique topographical attractions.

The central highlands of Lanai reveal a rare and exciting world defined by majestic mountains and forests of towering pines. Like a gracious country estate - warmed with the intimacy of a private guest house - Four Seasons Resort Lanai, The Lodge at Koele presides over 20 acres of manicured lawns and gardens with sculptures and a reflecting pond. Elevated highland vistas extend up to the central mountain peaks and down over rolling hills to the ocean in the distance. Indoors, under the high ceilings of the Great Hall, roaring fires and deep sofas encourage intimate conversation.

Infused with upcountry plantation charm, the resort's 102 luxurious rooms and one-bedroom suites, some with a stone fireplace, are set on two levels within the main building and in the north and south wings. Residential-style furnishings and colorful decor are inspired by the natural surroundings. Every room has ceiling fans, paintings by local artists, a cozy window seat, and carved pineapple finials on the two-poster bed. Technology includes a 40-inch LCD television and WiFi internet access.

Showcasing the diversity of Lanai, Four Seasons offers a remarkable range of restaurants and lounges within The Lodge at Koele, at Manele Bay, and at the golf clubhouses. Delicious cuisine and attentive service make every occasion a memory to treasure.

The Lodge becomes your home base for an enticing array of outdoor activities, including golf, horseback riding, and clay shooting. During sun-drenched days, guests enjoy swimming, tennis, croquet, lawn bowling, sporting clays, and horseback riding, as well as luxuriating at the spa in the woods. Golf is available at two of the world's most acclaimed courses.

Just 25 minutes away at the ocean's edge, Four Seasons Resort Lana'i at Manele Bay broadens the options for dining and recreation. Guests enjoy convenient shuttle service and complete signing privileges at the island's only other resort property.

Heaven on Earth!

We had been to all of the other main Hawaiian islands and finally decided to check out Lana'i after a colleague commented how "quiet and boring" it was (which, isn't a totally fair statement - but is our style - we want to soak up the sun and relax!). I'm so glad we did, because Lana'i forever changed our lives! It is now our absolute FAVORITE place to vacation. We loved it so much, that we ended up going back THREE times in less than 12 months! We completed our fourth visit back in April and now I'm finally writing a review since the resort is closed for renovations (and my heart is breaking!) The service is absolutely outstanding. We were so well taken care of by all of the staff - not only did they recognize us by name during our first visit, but they became our friends by the third and fourth visit! While we love the ambiance of Koele, Manele Bay is just so easy... you roll out of bed and fall onto the beach. (And then we stay there all morning & afternoon!) From the activities team, Jason was incredible! Over the course of our multiple visits, he took us on an island tour, invited us make beachside leis, swam a snorkeling safari and even talked us through a tidepool exploration. Definitely take advantage of everything he has to offer - his knowledge is amazing! From the beach team, there are just too many to name! Everyone on the team is awesome - Josh, Phil, Kris - they were always quick to set up chairs & umbrellas, bring water & snacks and always kept us entertained and laughing with their stories! Bonus, they offer shoreline fishing and excellent snorkeling tips! The dining options are delicious - we really enjoyed every restaurant. Our favorites are the grilled lobster, rock shrimp & short rib lettuce wraps at Nobu; Short ribs at the Lodge Terrace; Steak at One Forty; Grilled chicken sandwiches at the Beach & Pool Bar (and the discontinued Ham & Cheese sandwich - yum!); Burgers at the Sports Bar and the salads throughout all of the restaurants (really fresh!) But if you want to explore a bit, definitely head into town for some concierge recommended restaurants. We've gone to Pele's for pizza a bunch of times! We've had the opportunity to stay at both the old resort (with the older blue & yellow rooms) and the in-progress renovated resort (updated chic rooms, totally tech'd out) and can't wait to come back in 2016 to stay at the fully renovated resort! If you are questioning staying in Lana'i, don't! It's so easy to get to (via Ferry from Maui or a quick flight from any Hawaiian island) and both resorts (Koele & Manele) are incredible. For a special treat, go for Christmas and spend some time at the Lodge. The decorations are really well done and Koele features the most beautiful Christmas tree that I've ever seen - seriously breathtaking! More>

I've waited close to a year before posting this review as i was hoping beyond hope that Pulama and the Ellison people might manage to complete their re-positioning of the most unique vacation spot in Hawaii. Sadly, they have not. We stayed at the Lodge in December, 2014 and knowing that it would be our last for a while (perhaps ever?) we paid for an upgrade to what used to be the "Butler Suite" and had one of the most exquisite stays in the decade and half that we've spent luxuriating in the calm grace that is Koele. it was a bittersweet trip as almost every conversation we had with friends dealt with the unknown; the Four Seasons staff was transferring out and the locals were hoping for the best with what would amount to 'temporary' jobs while the Lodge was converted into a dormitory for construction workers remodeling the Manele project. The insult to injury was the almost complete destruction of the Experience at Koele; three applications of Round-Up had effectively turned our favorite golf course into a waste land, although the massive tree removal had opened up magnificent view corridors (/sarc). We have been waiting for five months on a 'waiting list' to hear back on when (and if) the Lodge would re-open in 2016 and the complete silence is disconcerting at best. it would be nice if Pulama or even the Four Seasons wold reach out to the many Brand Loyal guests, providing some sort of clue as to what lies down the road for the Lodge at Koele but secrecy has seemed to be a hallmark of the Ellison regime since the ownership change. It was well known that the goal was to achieve an $800USD ADR down at the Manele Bay Hotel and there is some fear that a similar fate awaits the Lodge. Having walked through the 'model' unit in late 2014 it was very evident that the designers had never fully embraced the Lodge experience as the hung windows had been replaced by sliding glass doors! We will remain optimistic although cautious so as not to raise expectations. To my fellow 'Lodge regulars', I wish we get at least one last opportunity to spend time with the many friends we've grown to love in the place that has and will always have a special place in out hearts. Had the pleasure of staying here for the Tri Lanai in Oct. 2011. Split our time between the Lodge and MB resort, but this was BY FAR our fave. Probably my most fave. hotel anywhere. So much atmosphere in a plantation type setting with beautiful quilted pillows on wicker chairs, and dark wood in traditional high end Hawaiian style. BEST food & service. Quiet and peaceful. Grounds truly amazing: Huge pond, gazebo, greenhouse, horses, hikes, quiet niches. Okay, a few cons: small pool by any standard but especially for a 4S; small jacuzzi next to small pool, next to small fitness center; rooms were cosy but could use updating. Huge property under refurbishment now, or I'd be going there in Nov. 2015. You can fly in small plane (8 seater?) or take the ferry from Mauii. I can't wait to return here. More>

If you think of Hawaii as nothing but beach resorts overrun with tourists, this hotel will disabuse you of that notion. Here, you are 1600 feet above sea level, so the weather is more temperate, and on Lana'i there are no crowds at all. The resort is beautiful, extremely well-maintained, and the service is exceptional. If you want the beach experience, the Four Seasons Manele resort and its spectacular beach are a short shuttle ride away. Or play one of the great golf courses on the island. Or just wander the gorgeous grounds. We really recommend renting a jeep and driving to some of the incredibly varied wonders of the island. This was one of the best escapes of our lives, and we cannot wait to visit again. More>

The most wonderful hotel that both I and my husband have ever stayed at. I have so many fond memories of the warm, friendly, helpful, fun staff. The views and walks around the lodge are so beautiful. There is so much to do- including many free activities such as bowling, croquet, swimming, snorkelling at the pristine beach (there's a free shuttle down to the other four seasons resort). There's the indoor games room, the little farm with animals to visit, and so much to explore! All of the little details have been thought of at this hotel. The free fruit laden water dispensers, the bathrooms fitted with everything you could possibly want (like combs, mouthwash, literally EVERYTHING), the room service that you seem to be able to order from anywhere (like the beautiful pool). I would firmly recommend staying at the Lodge at Koele over Manele Bay. Its much cheaper, but the service is equally as impeccable. The rooms in my opinion are actually much more homey, beautiful, and comfortable than the rooms at Manele (unless you prefer more modern decor). To me, the great hall looks like something straight out of a fairytale! Also, I personally think that peace and serenity of the mountains and the grounds at Koele are unbeatable. All the benefits of staying at Manele can be accessed by those at Koele (Namely, the beautiful beach, the views, the restaurants) very easily due to the regular free shuttle... and by the way, the shuttle ride is magical. Everything out your windows is beautiful. The last thing I would like to add is that my husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon, and they included so many thoughtful little extras, like whenever we came back after our room had been serviced, we found little beautiful treats like chocolate covered strawberries or little cakes or fancy marshmallows. There was also plenty of champagne :). Thank you SO much to everyone at The Four Seasons Hotel Lanai, Lodge at Koele for the most memorable hotel-stay of our lives. P.s. Not about the hotel, but the little town at Lanai is cute and has some nice restaurants and fun shops to explore. Check it out! More>
