One of the main reasons I picked this hotel is because online it told me the hotel had a casino it wasn't until I arrived I was told it was closed. I was able to enjoy my massage on the beach or my time on the beach due to the protestors on the beach and in front of the hotel all day and first thing in the morning.

Everything was great, other than a small mix-up at the end when we left an item for a local friend at the main desk. They lost it for a few hours, but found it for her later on in the day. So it wasn't that bad.

My husband and i came with 8 friends and when we checked in and got our rooms they were not cleaned yet besides 1 couples room. We had to go back down and get new rooms and we were finally able to settle in 30 minutes later. The hotel lobby is magnificent but the rooms were a little dated. They did have amazing shampoo and conditioner and body soap. They did not offer an all inclusive package and we quickly learned how expensive drinks and food was after thr first day. We only ate breakfest there and nothing else but they are in a perfect area with a supermarket down the street gift shops and amazing resturants within walking distancE. highly recommend Metropol so delicious we ate there twice. The pools and beach were very clean and lots of cabanas and seating. I would say they are more of a 4 star hotel but you cant beat the location 10 minutes from the airport.

only issue we had with the hotel is that they tried to check-us out a day early. I showed them the reservation and explained that we were there one more day. The person who was working at the front desk at the time couldn't help me and we had to wait until the manager arrived at 10am.

Horrible Hotel Room and View

Room 815 shower ceiling had mold, the paintings have what appears to be mold on them. The curtains are ripped, the tile is coming up off the floor near the so called wall door, there wad a bug crawling in the hotel book, there is a room on the 9th floor with the entire for missing and was covered by a sheet taped to the wall. Was a waste of money, made the trip a horrible experience!

Horrible Experience!!!!
ANGELICA W.
Jun 11 2014
Sadly our expectations were not met, most of the trip was substandard and by far it felt like a frustrating experience and not a honeymoon vacation. The service was poor. We asked if they could do something special for our honeymoon and they stated that they don't do anything special for honeymooners. Then when we went to our room we were disappointed with the room. There was an opening in the balcony door that bugs especially Mosquitos were coming in through. The room needed major updating. Worst of all the whole room had a horrible dampened smell. We were in awe that a hotel rated as six golden apples could be this horrific. When we went back to the lobby to complain they didn't offer any help. Another experience that was frustrating was trying to book some excursions through the concierge which weren't helpful either. They were not knowledgeable and not up to date with their suggestions. That's how our vacation went if we had a question or issue we would be bounced around from person to person with the end result of nothing solved and only more frustrations growing There were problems even when it came to eating and drinking in our hotel. The lobby bar was not open until later on and half of the time there was only one pool bar opened. It also took a long time to get a drink. When trying to eat later on in the restaurants at the hotel, none of the workers knew what was open and again we would get pushed around from restaurant to restaurant. To top this off we were picked from our hotel to go back to the airport 20 minutes late from the set time. We were already trying to get a different taxi because we were scared we weren't going to get to the airport in time. We have never had such a horrible experience.

The Dress Code is taken a little too seriously. After coming back from an excursion, we almost weren't let in to go to our hotel room because the guys had shorts on. Can not pay with cash at the hotel only credit card or bill to your room.

The night we checked in we were told we had a ' free ' upgrade to a City View room. I knew we had reserved a Garden Lanai but we took the key without complaining. When we got to our room, we were horrified. It was awful. Holes in the walls, door cracked down the middle like it had been kicked in. And a view of the a/c units for the lobby. I went back down and requested another room but was told the hotel was full and to check back the next day. We had to spend one night in the awful room but, after three more trips to the front desk, were finally told we had been 'approved' for a room change. The hassle was worth it. Garden Lanai room was beautiful!

The lobby is awesome. The grounds are awesome we stayed in the garden area. The halls and rooms look like they could use a refurbishing. It certainly didn't look like the lobby or other area. Paint was coming off walls. Carpeting in hall was beat up when we checked in our room wasn't ready. We. got there at 3 at 5:30 still no room were in room by 5:45. The girl at counter couldn't if been more apologetic. They gave us free drink tickets and 100 off our bill but wr left our house in Chicago at 3:30am. It was a very long day. Would if rather had our room at four

Overall, an excellent experience. However, the bathroom could have been roomier, and should have included a bathtub and bathrobes. The walls also were very thin, so we heard people having sex in the room next door, so better soundproofing would have been helpful.

Coming from a big family in the island is always challenging to choose the best place to stay and spend those nights where you just want to relax and feel like home but on yourself. So thanks to the Senior Prom celebration of my oldest niece I decided to book two nights at this beautiful place where I used to stay as a kid w my mom and siblings. There's not enough words to express the gratitude and satisfaction to the whole staff, from Valet Parking (Jose), Front Desk (Frances and Ivonne Ramos, Housekeeping (Osvaldo), and to the many talented, friendly and servicial team of this place which I will call from now on my home in the Island. They just not have a beautiful and neat property, but an impeccable attitude to those last minute requests that we all have when looking forward to spending time feeling like home! And yes I am very particular with my hotel accommodations after more than 10 years traveling around the world as the personal manager of Luis Fonsi. The best part of writing this review is that for the first time I am doing it from my heart and mind and as a token of.appreciation for all the resilient hard workers who are going out beyond their comfort zone to get all of us who visit the Island is the best possible mood! And if you see me around, tag me on Instagram as @carlitos -the one who promise you will have an amazing stay!!!! Oh! I am so excited that I almost forgot that service animals are also welcome on property with appropriate documentation! Big Kudos to Rafi Sanchez, Wanda Malavé, Ivonne Ramos and the staff!!!

Coming back from hurricane
Billyray312, Cherry Hill, New Jersey
Sun Jun 10 14:48:25 EDT 2018
Just spent three days in PR on business. This was my fourth time at the El San Juan but the first since the hurricane. Based on the conditions of the grounds, building exterior and lobby, there is little to indicate there was a hurricane except that the hotel is not fully open and it is very quiet. The property is in excellent condition. The casino and night club are closed as are some of the restaurants due to lack of business. That said, I did not want for anything. The staff could not do enough for me. All of Isla Verde seemed quiet but it is off season and some other hotels such as the Ritz Carlton are not reopened as yet. The last time I was there, the lobby was rocking with locals and tourists alike doing business during the day and dancing and swaying to a great Latin band at night. . I am also relieved the hurricane did not destroy the lobby or that some designer did not convince the owners to remove the detailed dark woodwork for white Carrera marble. The lobby is one of the items that gives this wonderful hotel its character. I hope when the high season returns the lobby becomes the social scene it used to be. Most of the hurricane damage along the waterfront in Isla Verde has been repaired. You can see some evidence of ongoing repairs but they have done a remarkable job of repairing and restoring the buildings along the waterfront. The beaches are in excellent shape as well. While the physical toll on properties is being restored, the hurricane continues to take an emotional and economic toll on the people of Puerto Rico. While discussing the hurricane with people at the hotel and throughout the island, I repeatedly heard a message similar to "we survived", "we are coming back" and "tell everyone to please visit". I am a fan of this hotel and have never had anything but a good experience in Puerto Rico. I hope to be able to visit again soon.,,,,and hope to see the lobby full of locals and tourists again.

opened several weeks ago. Beautiful 100 Year old chandelier and extensive mahogany in lobby bar in perfect condition. Lobby one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen. Pool stunning and worthy of Las Vegas. health club / exercise equipment remodeled and stunning. All servces including spa and restaurants slowly reopening. Worth a visit. Lots of available rooms as most people unaware it has reopened after hurricane Maria fall 2017. Very attentive and kind staff.

Best option while in Puerto Rico.

You will see a smile on every face. All the employees will give the maximum so that your stay is very pleasant. It is located in front of the sea, in one of the best beaches on the island. Last but not least, 10 minutes from the airport.
