One of the main reasons I picked this hotel is because online it told me the hotel had a casino it wasn't until I arrived I was told it was closed. I was able to enjoy my massage on the beach or my time on the beach due to the protestors on the beach and in front of the hotel all day and first thing in the morning.

Everything was great, other than a small mix-up at the end when we left an item for a local friend at the main desk. They lost it for a few hours, but found it for her later on in the day. So it wasn't that bad.

great location and amazing beach

My husband and i came with 8 friends and when we checked in and got our rooms they were not cleaned yet besides 1 couples room. We had to go back down and get new rooms and we were finally able to settle in 30 minutes later. The hotel lobby is magnificent but the rooms were a little dated. They did have amazing shampoo and conditioner and body soap. They did not offer an all inclusive package and we quickly learned how expensive drinks and food was after thr first day. We only ate breakfest there and nothing else but they are in a perfect area with a supermarket down the street gift shops and amazing resturants within walking distancE. highly recommend Metropol so delicious we ate there twice. The pools and beach were very clean and lots of cabanas and seating. I would say they are more of a 4 star hotel but you cant beat the location 10 minutes from the airport.

only issue we had with the hotel is that they tried to check-us out a day early. I showed them the reservation and explained that we were there one more day. The person who was working at the front desk at the time couldn't help me and we had to wait until the manager arrived at 10am.

Horrible Hotel Room and View

Room 815 shower ceiling had mold, the paintings have what appears to be mold on them. The curtains are ripped, the tile is coming up off the floor near the so called wall door, there wad a bug crawling in the hotel book, there is a room on the 9th floor with the entire for missing and was covered by a sheet taped to the wall. Was a waste of money, made the trip a horrible experience!

Horrible Experience!!!!
ANGELICA W.
Jun 11 2014
Sadly our expectations were not met, most of the trip was substandard and by far it felt like a frustrating experience and not a honeymoon vacation. The service was poor. We asked if they could do something special for our honeymoon and they stated that they don't do anything special for honeymooners. Then when we went to our room we were disappointed with the room. There was an opening in the balcony door that bugs especially Mosquitos were coming in through. The room needed major updating. Worst of all the whole room had a horrible dampened smell. We were in awe that a hotel rated as six golden apples could be this horrific. When we went back to the lobby to complain they didn't offer any help. Another experience that was frustrating was trying to book some excursions through the concierge which weren't helpful either. They were not knowledgeable and not up to date with their suggestions. That's how our vacation went if we had a question or issue we would be bounced around from person to person with the end result of nothing solved and only more frustrations growing There were problems even when it came to eating and drinking in our hotel. The lobby bar was not open until later on and half of the time there was only one pool bar opened. It also took a long time to get a drink. When trying to eat later on in the restaurants at the hotel, none of the workers knew what was open and again we would get pushed around from restaurant to restaurant. To top this off we were picked from our hotel to go back to the airport 20 minutes late from the set time. We were already trying to get a different taxi because we were scared we weren't going to get to the airport in time. We have never had such a horrible experience.

The Dress Code is taken a little too seriously. After coming back from an excursion, we almost weren't let in to go to our hotel room because the guys had shorts on. Can not pay with cash at the hotel only credit card or bill to your room.

The night we checked in we were told we had a ' free ' upgrade to a City View room. I knew we had reserved a Garden Lanai but we took the key without complaining. When we got to our room, we were horrified. It was awful. Holes in the walls, door cracked down the middle like it had been kicked in. And a view of the a/c units for the lobby. I went back down and requested another room but was told the hotel was full and to check back the next day. We had to spend one night in the awful room but, after three more trips to the front desk, were finally told we had been 'approved' for a room change. The hassle was worth it. Garden Lanai room was beautiful!

The lobby is awesome. The grounds are awesome we stayed in the garden area. The halls and rooms look like they could use a refurbishing. It certainly didn't look like the lobby or other area. Paint was coming off walls. Carpeting in hall was beat up when we checked in our room wasn't ready. We. got there at 3 at 5:30 still no room were in room by 5:45. The girl at counter couldn't if been more apologetic. They gave us free drink tickets and 100 off our bill but wr left our house in Chicago at 3:30am. It was a very long day. Would if rather had our room at four

Overall, an excellent experience. However, the bathroom could have been roomier, and should have included a bathtub and bathrobes. The walls also were very thin, so we heard people having sex in the room next door, so better soundproofing would have been helpful.

Definitely not ready for prime time
berth949, New Rochelle, New York

I recently stayed at the El San Juan Hotel. It was a disappointing experience on many levels. The lack of service was notable. The lack of open restaurants was really unfortunate. The basic attitude of many of the people in the hotel was deplorable. I made a reservation in the hotel based on a "flash sale" price. The sale worked-the hotel was crowded. But little else did work. I was put into a room facing another building despite representations that I had not come to San Juan to look at someone else's windows. The Wi-Fi set-up from Hilton was deplorable. Every day requited a new complex log-in and I had to get someone to help on a couple of occasions-and that was no simple matter. Most things in the hotel are new -but that doesn't mean they are well thought through. In particular, the bathroom in my room-608 and I imagine most others, was crippling tiny. If I were travelling as a couple, it would be basically unusable. There is no real dedicated work-desk in the room although there are work surfaces. If you want to read in bed-bring your own lighting-the rooms are simply not equipped with anything resembling reading lamps. The breakfast situation is a joke-really unprofessional. I could do better at MacDonald's. Woe to you if you want to be served in a civilized fashion. And if you want turn-down service-forget about that. I was told it would come when the hotel was fully opened-but there certainly was no rebate offered for the lack of service. If you go to a hotel, and there are doormen lounging about, you might expect to have the door of your car/taxi opened and the door opened to the hotel. You might expect that-but not at the El San Juan. You might expect that the hotel would have a computer record of your reservation-but you would expect in vain. The computer system is clearly not updating changes. And you might expect that at least one restaurant would be available along with the pool bar-kind of basic amenities for a hotel in the tropics. But again, expect in vain. I suppose that I will be told that all will be well in a few days when the hotel has its grand reopening. But that won't fix the service lapses, the Wi-Fi issues and the room layout and view. There are better choices in San Juan. This hotel is not ready for travelers expecting some level of luxury and service. .

This is the marquis hotel on this side of PR. The service is world class, the food is fantastic, and the hotel is 5 star quality. The creme de la creme, with a perfect spot in the beach. The hotel is mostly rebuilt by 12/18 with exceptions of the casino and sushi restaurant. The employees are all long timers with fierce loyalty to giving the taj majal treatment to all guests. This is where dignitaries lounge. The DNC was there when I visited.

Angelo was the best! He took us to a special spot to get carrot cake when we said we wanted dessert. The knowledge he has of both this hotel and the entire city cannot be matched and is invaluable. Honestly seeing him every day of our stay was what made our stay so enjoyable. Every guest who interacts with Angelo is sure to have a better experience with him at their side. We hope to see him next time we visit

Great hotel/resort. Beach access was easy. Multiple pools and they are all great. Fitness center is top-notch. Wish I could have stayed longer. Very nice lobby. Delicious tapas for the front bar/restaurant.

A lovely blast from the past. This hotel have been closed down from the storm, then being renovated. It looks wonderful they are almost finished and the resort is on its way back to its prime in Puerto Rico.
