This was our second time at this property in less than a year. The food this time in all the restaurants and buffets was lacking. They must have had a chef change, and not for the better.

Getaway in Paradise!
JENNIFER O.
Aug 21 2018
Stayed at Dreams Nuevo Vallarata Aug 13-17. It was WONDERFUL! I have stayed at multiple Dreams/Secrets resorts prior, and this establishment met all my expectations. The staff were so friendly and always willing to please/help. The FISH TACOS @ Oceana restaurant were THE BEST I have ever had (and I live at the beach). They were so good we went EVERY day for lunch. The pool/beach waiters are always on top of their game trying their hardest to ensure you always have a cold beverage in hand. The entertainment staff are very friendly and even helped my friend in I with using the resort bicycles to ride independently to the next little beach town to do some shopping. I visited the coffee shop daily (some multiple times) as the service there was awesome and the drinks/bakery items were super tasty. Overall it was an excellent vacation, the resort is super clean, the beach is tidy with great water access (no seaweed or rocks), and the rooms are comfortable and very nice. We were on the 5th floor and the views were beautiful. Lastly, visit the sushi bar on the 9th floor- the sushi menu isn't expansive but they do have something for everyone and it is all made fresh as you order it. The drinks are cold and the atmosphere matches the wonderful views. I personally highly recommend this resort for those who are simply wanting a relaxing quiet getaway. It is not a "loud" or "organized entertainment" as some other all inclusive resorts I have been to, but that was FINE by me. Most of the daytime activities are held in the pool closest to the lobby and I spent most of my time at the infinity pool overlooking the beach so perhaps I missed the "loud/engaging activities". The bar closest to the beach also has swings! I was slightly disappointed to see no hammocks out/up, but that was just a minor letdown. The grounds is also beautifully maintained and there were numerous very large Iguanias that you could see freely walking around (eating all the pretty flowers)! During the day there was also a fowler who had two hawks that he did little shows with- pretty neat to just sit back and sip on a Miami Vice (my favorite) and watch the beautiful birds fly so freely. If walking the beach strikes your fancy- you can go both directions for a long distance. If you head to the right you can see lots of sea stones & shells, and will eventually come to the next small town, and if you go left eventually you will hit the boat marina. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED IF YOU BOOK HERE!

Maid service wasn't consistent - would be out of the room all morning and early afternoon and would not be cleaned. Food wasn't that great. Check-in was extremely slow - need extra help with several people waiting.

Rooms: Large, clean, all-suites, comfortable beds & pillows. Bathrooms in the suites are not private read other reviews if this may be an issue for you. Nice bath (shampoo, etc.) products. Housekeeping: Great!!! If you need more water or beer in your mini fridge, just leave a note w/your tip for the maid. Food: No reservations are required which is a HUGE benefit for me. A rating: Portofino (adults only): they get the 5 course meal and the food was great (Osso Buocco / Risotto yum!). A rating: Coco Caf - Great coffee and little treats. This is on the other side of the lobby. A rating: Gohan - We didnt eat here (were not sushi lovers), but the drinks were good and the views amazing. Everyone reviews the food as great. B+ rating: El Patio - I enjoyed my meal and margarita a lot original menu. B rating: Oceana Colorful hanging fish are cool and the Mahi Mahi was great. Nice to eat outside! C rating: Seaside Grill Dinner service was very slow. Steak wasnt cooked and was tough. I dont know if it was an off-night, but we did not return. D rating: Snack bar: 1-hard to find and figure out how to order (they have little ice cream cones, but Im not sure how you are supposed to order them), 2-burgers were raw (yuck), 3-there is a secret bathroom to the left of the grill which I wish I would have known about!). We paid for lunches at the condo food bar because the food was better & quicker than the Dreams snack bar. Drinks: Good. Loved the white & red house wine! Mini bar: Pop, water, beer. All you need. Beach: Gorgeous. You can walk for miles in both directions. Service/Staff: Pool/beach staff are good but was a bit inconsistent. Lobby bartender was fun. They work hard to serve you; and if its great, tip well. When we were there, they seemed to be short-staffed. Overall comments: Not a 5-star resort. More of a 3.5 star. The staff wasnt trained on the DREAMS BRAND and that was kind of an issue for me, as Ive stayed at numerous Secrets & Dreams. With a bit of training and adequate staffing, I think the hotel staff could make this a close-to-perfect vacation. What I liked most: beach, sunsets, balcony, lobby bar, Portofino. What the resort could improve upon: Public bathrooms didnt have signage (especially the snack bar bathroom). Quick lunch food was lacking (see above). Towel cards should be abolished.

The buffet is horrible, but many restaurants are adult only. Why did I pay the full price for my 15 years old kid?

This hotel has the worst buffet I've ever seen. And the biggest problem at night or some restaurants have adult only policy. What is wrong with the management? Why they change the full price and allow to eat in buffet only. Complete rip off.

Disappointing

I have used Apple Vacations for numerous all-inclusive trips, This trip was the worst I've experienced! The staff at the hotel (actually one exception-Adolfo Arechiga was amazing) the rest were rude, unfriendly, and curt with all their answers! I will never recommend this resort or return there!! I couldn't wait to leave! I felt very unwelcome and that I was bothering them! The maid came in and threw pillows on the couch for turn-down service then ran out of the room. the waiters did not smile at me- they were very friendly and spoke in length to those tourists or guests who spoke spanish, I could not get a smile or even their attention for a drink. Terribly disappointing.

Totally inaccurate Apple rating. Food choices were limited and mostly bad - the buffet food was the worst I have experienced at an all-inclusive in Mexico. Mexican restaurant at the hotel was absolutely awful (lasagna on the menu??) Service at that restaurant was awful - we waited 1/2 hour before being offered drinks, waiter forgot half the order and when we pointed out the things that were missing, he forgot again. Lounge chairs by the pool were scarce, and when we found one, they were very uncomfortable. There were even fewer loungers at the beach - and half of the chairs on the beach were broken. When we didn't return to our lounge chairs by the pool within an hour, security picked up our things and removed them from the pool. When we returned, there was nowhere to sit. If the hotel had a 3-apple rating, I would have known what to expect, but giving this hotel a six, golden-apple rating is just wrong. We were very disappointed and will think twice before booking through Apple again.

Relaxing Low Stress Vacation

Jan 19 2018
Resort is a short drive from the airport. Check in was fast and easy. We upgraded to the Preferred Section with and ocean view-it was well worth the additional expense! An added bonus was the private lounge a short walk from our room, which meant we had a perfect sunset with cocktails every evening from our deck or hot tub. The lounge had a great view of the bay from 1 table and that became my late afternoon spot out of the sun. Staff at every bar was upbeat, friendly and attentive. Restaurants had little to no wait. Except for the Italian restaurant. We had a group of 8 that had a wait of 40 minutes for tables to clear. We opted to buy 2 bottles of wine (not part of the all inclusive) and took advantage of the beautiful wine cellar which had a private table and 2 staff that tended to the guests, also well worth the expense. The resort had much less walking than many other places Ive been. The staff were very friendly and were calling us by name from the 3rd day. The spa is beautiful with a friendly attendant, Yanira, to ensure you have the opportunty to enjoy all the benefits it has to offer. This is not the fanciest place we have been, nor the most gourmet, but the atmosphere is very accommodating, relaxing and welcoming. Facilities are clean, polished, well kept. Although not over the top in luxury, this is a beautiful resort. One thing that disappointed - the 3rd pool, which is the one nearest to the beach was not heated. The water was to cold to use. A few brave souls did over the week, but it would have been better if the largest pool onsite, was usable.

We have been to a few other Dreams Resorts and was not so impressed with the resort. A good resort to kick back and relax but if you are looking for entertainment, this would not be the place. Restaurants were ok and not all were open nightly. We did go outside the resort for dinner one night and had an excellent experience.

Nice hotel but....

First the good points.... Nice clean hotel with lovely grounds and a nice long beach. The area seems relatively quiet and there is a no noise policy after 10pm. Over half this hotel is private which isn’t evident when you book so it’s smaller than you think which is good because it never seemed really overcrowded. THE STAFF-all lovely and very hard working. Always smiling and happy to help you Rooms are large with iron, hairdryer and mini bar with soft drinks and beer The beds are huge and comfortable Shower hot Air con works well Area is nice with a lovely walkway just outside the hotel where you can walk quite safely to a shopping centre(turn right) or a small town(turn left) The drinks are mostly premium brands -for example if you want a g&t ask for Bombay or tanqueray Breakfast is plentiful and a good selection of hot and cold choices. Plus Buck’s Fizz 🍾 There are iguanas roaming around which are great to watch and we were lucky enough to see turtle hatchlings desperately trying to get to the sea why we tried to frighten the birds away Now for the not so good... The food lets this hotel down-you won’t go hungry as the world cafe(buffet restaurant) has a large selection of food on offer but it’s not gourmet. We found the lunchtime selection far better than the evening. The specialist restaurants aren’t great. Portofino the Italian looks lovely but the food is very salty so not enjoyable at all. To be fair Oceana was the best and better at lunchtime but dinner was not good at all(I couldn’t eat my tuna as it was just a raw cold slab of fish) Seaside grill great starters but the chicken and the steak were difficult to cut and even more difficult to chew! We didn’t eat in the Mexican restaurant as we met a few people who advised us against it. The bathroom isn’t separate to the bed room. It’s a very strange set up. A curtain divides the bath and basins from the bed. The shower and toilet are behind frosted glass doors it’s just not private at all(even if you are married/partners etc some things need to be private 😳) There is an area of wood squares in the floor in the washbasin area-why?? They look awful and serve no purpose but look grim! No kettle only a coffee maker with one pouch of coffee no sugar, milk, tea bags however the coffee shop near reception is open 24/7 so perhaps that’s why? Lots of beds by the pools and on the beach but they are mostly gone by 8am so you had to get up and get down there to grab one or there was no where to sit. The policy of no reserving beds isn’t enforced so we copied the other guests... Guests...this hotel mainly caters for American clientele. Unfortunately not all are aware of other holiday makers so are loud and swearing and generally making a noise whatever they are doing. Again hotel policy says no music boxes by the pools but this wasn’t enforced so you had to either listen to someone’s loud music or move which isn’t good. In summary the hotel is nice but only 3 star not 4 or 5 and the staff make it. We did have a lovely holiday but I would not return to Mexico mainly due to our western neighbours influence.

Poor experience, vacation was ruined

Thu Jan 10 10:10:50 EST 2019
We recently went with friends and family for a vacation and found the resort lacking in many ways. The food did not taste good, the staff was helpful but they were extremely short staffed, room service ordered for kids did not arrive in 2 hours and had to cancel, check-in was chaotic, AC did not work in one of the rooms, very late housekeeping (had to call every day to do housekeeping at the end of the day), all these ruined our holiday. The only positive thing was some of the staff were genuinely apologetic and were trying to be helpful. I understand we went during the holidays but they should have hired extra staff to account for leavers, extra guests, etc. The alcoholic drinks ordered from the bars near the pools were extremely diluted.

A nice little resort hidden among the swarms of children.

We were told that, of the 2 resorts in Nuevo Vallarta, Dreams was the "more adult" of the two. This would lead me to believe that the other one was literally a Kindergarten. There were a lot of kids here, and although there were "adults only" spaces...they were generally also full of kids. The adult only whirlpool was kid central. The Adult only rooftop bar and sushi restaurant? More then a few kids. The fine dining Italian restaurant (Portofino) was the exception, but only because they literally turned families with kids away at the door.Entitled parents and staff with (I assume) better things to do than enforce an adults only area leads to, well, nowhere that there aren't kids. Now the good stuff. The Staff are *amazing*. Seriously, the best staff of any hotel I've ever been in. Service was prompt, friendly and hi quality. Our room was also great. we had the Tropical view rather than the Ocean view and I can't imagine who the ocean view would be preferable. Bed was comfortable, hot tub on the balcony was terrific, room service was fast and good (though their gluten-free options still got a bad reaction from my celiac girlfriend)The walls could have been a bit more sound-deadening, our neighbors were there to *party* and their booming techno and loud sex were audible :)Anyways, a nice experience overall, largely due to the staff.

Definitely, we will go back

Family Christmas Visit
CizH, Dublin, Ireland
Mon Jan 07 07:12:36 EST 2019
We’ve just returned after a two week stay over Christmas and New Year. There are good and bad points to this hotel : 5 out of 5 - the staff, they are amazing, everyone is friendly and helpful, special thanks to Chuy at the poolside who always had a drink, a chat and advice for us, also Angel at the pool who was always up for a joke and a laugh. Brando for the quick and efficient checkin and room change when our room wasn’t quite right. Gilbert and Agustin at breakfast and lunch who couldn’t do enough for us and were so lovely and Diana who cooked our eggs to perfection with a smile and always remembered what we liked. Also Cynthia who does the yoga every second morning down the beach, thank you. Also to Jesus and Johnathan and Annabel from the entertainment team who always had a smile and kept the boy busy and entertained. And Kai the Tui Rep who helped so much, thanks. 5 out of 5 - the public areas of the hotel including the green areas are kept so well, the gardeners and cleaners do a fantastic job! Also the housekeepers do a wonderful job, this hotel is clean! Well done! 2 out of 5 - the food, the quality isn’t there, there’s lots of food, you won’t go hungry, just not great. 1 out of 5 - the hard sell for Unlimited Luxury, don’t do that. The hotel is only a half hour from the airport and the taxis are easily called to the hotel should you require one, ask for Pacheco (3222357485 his number should you need) he’s the nicest friendliest taxi driver ever, brought us all over, brilliant! This is Not a party hotel as half of it is residential so things get quiet at around 10pm, really nice if you like your sleep. The toilet and shower in the bedrooms are frosted glass in a large bedroom separated from the bed by a curtain, so if you have privacy issues you might want to get over them. We had a lovely relaxing time, but the food lets this hotel down, definitely a 3 not a four. There’s plenty of iguanas around the hotel and a resident Harris Hawk to scare away the crows. And we were lucky enough to see baby Black Leather Back Turtles hatch and make it to the sea. Oh, you can get fab massages 2hundred yards down the beach at Patty Spa, they’re cheap but brilliant, there’s usually a board and an employee on the beach with leaflets.
