This was our second time at this property in less than a year. The food this time in all the restaurants and buffets was lacking. They must have had a chef change, and not for the better.

Getaway in Paradise!

Stayed at Dreams Nuevo Vallarata Aug 13-17. It was WONDERFUL! I have stayed at multiple Dreams/Secrets resorts prior, and this establishment met all my expectations. The staff were so friendly and always willing to please/help. The FISH TACOS @ Oceana restaurant were THE BEST I have ever had (and I live at the beach). They were so good we went EVERY day for lunch. The pool/beach waiters are always on top of their game trying their hardest to ensure you always have a cold beverage in hand. The entertainment staff are very friendly and even helped my friend in I with using the resort bicycles to ride independently to the next little beach town to do some shopping. I visited the coffee shop daily (some multiple times) as the service there was awesome and the drinks/bakery items were super tasty. Overall it was an excellent vacation, the resort is super clean, the beach is tidy with great water access (no seaweed or rocks), and the rooms are comfortable and very nice. We were on the 5th floor and the views were beautiful. Lastly, visit the sushi bar on the 9th floor- the sushi menu isn't expansive but they do have something for everyone and it is all made fresh as you order it. The drinks are cold and the atmosphere matches the wonderful views. I personally highly recommend this resort for those who are simply wanting a relaxing quiet getaway. It is not a "loud" or "organized entertainment" as some other all inclusive resorts I have been to, but that was FINE by me. Most of the daytime activities are held in the pool closest to the lobby and I spent most of my time at the infinity pool overlooking the beach so perhaps I missed the "loud/engaging activities". The bar closest to the beach also has swings! I was slightly disappointed to see no hammocks out/up, but that was just a minor letdown. The grounds is also beautifully maintained and there were numerous very large Iguanias that you could see freely walking around (eating all the pretty flowers)! During the day there was also a fowler who had two hawks that he did little shows with- pretty neat to just sit back and sip on a Miami Vice (my favorite) and watch the beautiful birds fly so freely. If walking the beach strikes your fancy- you can go both directions for a long distance. If you head to the right you can see lots of sea stones & shells, and will eventually come to the next small town, and if you go left eventually you will hit the boat marina. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED IF YOU BOOK HERE!

Maid service wasn't consistent - would be out of the room all morning and early afternoon and would not be cleaned. Food wasn't that great. Check-in was extremely slow - need extra help with several people waiting.

Rooms: Large, clean, all-suites, comfortable beds & pillows. Bathrooms in the suites are not private read other reviews if this may be an issue for you. Nice bath (shampoo, etc.) products. Housekeeping: Great!!! If you need more water or beer in your mini fridge, just leave a note w/your tip for the maid. Food: No reservations are required which is a HUGE benefit for me. A rating: Portofino (adults only): they get the 5 course meal and the food was great (Osso Buocco / Risotto yum!). A rating: Coco Caf - Great coffee and little treats. This is on the other side of the lobby. A rating: Gohan - We didnt eat here (were not sushi lovers), but the drinks were good and the views amazing. Everyone reviews the food as great. B+ rating: El Patio - I enjoyed my meal and margarita a lot original menu. B rating: Oceana Colorful hanging fish are cool and the Mahi Mahi was great. Nice to eat outside! C rating: Seaside Grill Dinner service was very slow. Steak wasnt cooked and was tough. I dont know if it was an off-night, but we did not return. D rating: Snack bar: 1-hard to find and figure out how to order (they have little ice cream cones, but Im not sure how you are supposed to order them), 2-burgers were raw (yuck), 3-there is a secret bathroom to the left of the grill which I wish I would have known about!). We paid for lunches at the condo food bar because the food was better & quicker than the Dreams snack bar. Drinks: Good. Loved the white & red house wine! Mini bar: Pop, water, beer. All you need. Beach: Gorgeous. You can walk for miles in both directions. Service/Staff: Pool/beach staff are good but was a bit inconsistent. Lobby bartender was fun. They work hard to serve you; and if its great, tip well. When we were there, they seemed to be short-staffed. Overall comments: Not a 5-star resort. More of a 3.5 star. The staff wasnt trained on the DREAMS BRAND and that was kind of an issue for me, as Ive stayed at numerous Secrets & Dreams. With a bit of training and adequate staffing, I think the hotel staff could make this a close-to-perfect vacation. What I liked most: beach, sunsets, balcony, lobby bar, Portofino. What the resort could improve upon: Public bathrooms didnt have signage (especially the snack bar bathroom). Quick lunch food was lacking (see above). Towel cards should be abolished.

The buffet is horrible, but many restaurants are adult only. Why did I pay the full price for my 15 years old kid?

This hotel has the worst buffet I've ever seen. And the biggest problem at night or some restaurants have adult only policy. What is wrong with the management? Why they change the full price and allow to eat in buffet only. Complete rip off.

I have used Apple Vacations for numerous all-inclusive trips, This trip was the worst I've experienced! The staff at the hotel (actually one exception-Adolfo Arechiga was amazing) the rest were rude, unfriendly, and curt with all their answers! I will never recommend this resort or return there!! I couldn't wait to leave! I felt very unwelcome and that I was bothering them! The maid came in and threw pillows on the couch for turn-down service then ran out of the room. the waiters did not smile at me- they were very friendly and spoke in length to those tourists or guests who spoke spanish, I could not get a smile or even their attention for a drink. Terribly disappointing.

Totally inaccurate Apple rating. Food choices were limited and mostly bad - the buffet food was the worst I have experienced at an all-inclusive in Mexico. Mexican restaurant at the hotel was absolutely awful (lasagna on the menu??) Service at that restaurant was awful - we waited 1/2 hour before being offered drinks, waiter forgot half the order and when we pointed out the things that were missing, he forgot again. Lounge chairs by the pool were scarce, and when we found one, they were very uncomfortable. There were even fewer loungers at the beach - and half of the chairs on the beach were broken. When we didn't return to our lounge chairs by the pool within an hour, security picked up our things and removed them from the pool. When we returned, there was nowhere to sit. If the hotel had a 3-apple rating, I would have known what to expect, but giving this hotel a six, golden-apple rating is just wrong. We were very disappointed and will think twice before booking through Apple again.

Relaxing Low Stress Vacation

Resort is a short drive from the airport. Check in was fast and easy. We upgraded to the Preferred Section with and ocean view-it was well worth the additional expense! An added bonus was the private lounge a short walk from our room, which meant we had a perfect sunset with cocktails every evening from our deck or hot tub. The lounge had a great view of the bay from 1 table and that became my late afternoon spot out of the sun. Staff at every bar was upbeat, friendly and attentive. Restaurants had little to no wait. Except for the Italian restaurant. We had a group of 8 that had a wait of 40 minutes for tables to clear. We opted to buy 2 bottles of wine (not part of the all inclusive) and took advantage of the beautiful wine cellar which had a private table and 2 staff that tended to the guests, also well worth the expense. The resort had much less walking than many other places Ive been. The staff were very friendly and were calling us by name from the 3rd day. The spa is beautiful with a friendly attendant, Yanira, to ensure you have the opportunty to enjoy all the benefits it has to offer. This is not the fanciest place we have been, nor the most gourmet, but the atmosphere is very accommodating, relaxing and welcoming. Facilities are clean, polished, well kept. Although not over the top in luxury, this is a beautiful resort. One thing that disappointed - the 3rd pool, which is the one nearest to the beach was not heated. The water was to cold to use. A few brave souls did over the week, but it would have been better if the largest pool onsite, was usable.

We have been to a few other Dreams Resorts and was not so impressed with the resort. A good resort to kick back and relax but if you are looking for entertainment, this would not be the place. Restaurants were ok and not all were open nightly. We did go outside the resort for dinner one night and had an excellent experience.

The Manager Francisco offered the whole family fantastic service. He was incredibly friendly with everyone and also very polite. He greeted us first and made sure we were all accommodated accordingly. He kept checking up on us and made sure we didn’t need anything more. We have been here a couple of days and Francisco has given us the best service of the trip so far.

An enjoyable holiday!

Overall We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this Dreams resort. Check in was smooth, greeted with a glass of champagne whilst we waited, a lovely rough. The room was comfortable (they could do with updating) the shower was powerful. The room was cleaned every day, there is a turn down service which was nice. The fridge was stocked every day with Corona, fizzy drinks and juice. The balcony overlooking the mountains was a delight, yes there is a road in front but that didn’t bother us and I actually preferred this after looking at the pool and ocean all day. We did use the jacuzzi on balcony once at sunset :) there was a safe, hairdryer, toiletries in the room too. Plenty of coat hangers which was great as you usually get about two at a hotel. The food was generally okay! The breakfast buffet was tasty, a good selection of pastries, cereal and hot options. The omelette stations were great, the secret bacon was available If you asked the omelette chefs ;) we only ate once at the buffet on an oriental evening, wasn’t the best to be honest. Portofino was our favourite, shout out to Diana who remembered us each night. The food and the service was impeccable. The Mexican restaurant was tasty as was Oceana. Lunch options were average but readily available, especially if you wanted to eat at your lounger (burgers, chips, jacket potatoes, pizza and salad). Drinks were flowing, especially in the lobby bar and the rooftop bar. Through the day the pool bars were great and we barely moved off our lounger thanks to Alberto Alvarez and Angel serving us, our fave staff of the trip!! Great choice of cocktails, beers including canned Bud Light. We didn’t really involve ourselves with the entertainment but it did seem popular. We did a dolphin experience which we booked directly through Vallarta Adventures website, 2for1 if booked 72 hours before :) the taxis were available immediately from the hotel! Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, I’m not sure we would return but only due to wanting to explore new places. Thank you so much to you all :)

This resort is a favorite of ours and our fourth year here. The staff is amazing with Carlos checking us in and welcoming us back again! Rooms are large and immaculately kept as is the entire resort. Room amenities are plentiful. We had an ocean view, but have stayed in tropical view also. Restaurants provide a wide variety of food choices. The World Cafe with Yadira as manager is our choice for breakfast and lunch buffet. The hostesses (Yolanda, Karen, Estefania) were very accommodating to our seating preferences. Martin and Josue are great waiters and have been there for years! Try one of Gladys’ delicious tortillas for breakfast!! There are other food choices nearer the beach too. Service in all areas is excellent. Staff wish to please and are very friendly. The 9 th floor bar offers a great sunset picture though it opens at 6:30 and sun set at 6:10. Try the sushi ! Evening meals we usually chose a specialty restaurant. Our favorite was Portifinos with Jose and Hector as a superb waiters and Diana as hostess! We were glad to see that Leo returned on Thursday night to provide music in Portifinos. The other restaurants also were top notch with Noe suggesting menu items at Oceana for us. Several nights there was music in the lobby which was very relaxing. Family entertainment each evening at a time good for kids. See the circus, pirate adventure, Mexican fiestas, urban show, and more! Alix is a very special friend and in charge of the wonderful spa area. Seek her out! They have an amazing hydrotherapy circuit. There is also a tennis court which had many guests enjoying the sport. The Coco Cafe is a cute area and busy with those who wish coffee or snacks any time of the day or night. Great hours!!! Speaking of hours, there is a resort ten pm quiet zone. 😀 The beach and pool areas are clean and well staffed. Entertainment staff works hard to present many choices of recreation such as volleyball, water aerobics, and bike tours. We have taken the bike tour in the previous visits to the property and enjoyed them. Jonathan is amazing as are the others on the entertainment staff. Ask him to show you one of his magic card tricks! The beach is flat and excellent for those that wish a long walk! For fun, take the free tourist 🚋 trolley and see the area, 45 minutes picked up outside of Dreams! We enjoyed taking walks to the Paradise Island shopping area along a beautiful boulevard. Our only concern is that there is only one elliptical workout machine in the fitness center. Accessing this machine can be trying. Fitness hours are good! We will look forward to returning in the future. Wendy & Walt

We are currently on our last full day of a 6 day stay here at Dreams. My fiancee and I are vacation club members, and having visited other properties owned by this group we were looking forward to another lovely vacation. Unfortunately, Dreams under delivered in every way. Our biggest complaint is the atrocious food!!! I mean, it's really bad guys. The 'buffet' is roughly 6 hot options; and during breakfast it's often some variation of leftovers from the night before. There are zero healthy choices, and the salad bar is simply lettuce and Caesar/1000 island dressing. There are only 3 restaurant options, and after you eat at them a couple of times it is really hard to want to go back again - we ended up leaving the property multiple times in search of a good meal. The service staff was lovely, but the resort is small and does not have much to offer. There are kids EVERYWHERE; and although there was an adults only pool advertised, it does not exist. There seems to be little enforcement of any rules, especially in regard to the children. We literally saw one school aged child drop his pants and pee on the grass right next to where we were eating at Oceana, yet nobody seemed to mind. Additionally, the pools are not heated; the water is FRIGID at best. Other issues we encountered this week: mini fridge not stocked upon arrival; sliding door to patio would not open; shower leaks water all the way into the closet; no canned beer at any of the pool bars; terrible food (I simply can't say this enough); unattended children all over the place, especially during meal times; rooftop bar closed 3 of the 4 nights; broken elevator (causing 20-30 min wait times for ride on 1 remaining lift); no Adults Only Areas as advertised. The resort is tiny, and offers little else to do besides lounge at the ice cold pool. Shows at night are in odd places, often seating guests on lobby stairs (which is also the only walkway out of the building). The staff was nice, but there is nothing we saw that would make us want to return to this resort. This is a 3 star resort at best.

Definitely not a 4 star as advertised!

We, family of four including a 10 year old and a 6 year old are here right now! Let me start by saying the rooms are amazing very large and spacious for family. We have a king bed along with the double bed and an additional roll away twin. If you have young kids, the kids club will exceed your expectations, the staff are very professional especially Alle. The kids club is very large with lots of fun options for the kids to be entertained. They provide you with a cell phone and make you feel safe. The shows are excellent we enjoyed every single night, however they need to invest and build a proper indoor theater. Our biggest complaint is the food, especially at the buffet. Breakfast was always consistent and good with a decent amount of choices. However, lunch and dinner has minimal choices and very obvious low Quality Meats and fish. The salad bar has literally no options to make a salad just lettuce and dressing. We are very disappointed with the food considering this is supposed to be a 4 star resort. We have stayed at three star resorts with them having better food quality! The ala carte restaurants, Oceania and Portofino are good but not enough to compensate for the buffet dissatisfaction! Lastly, the pools are absolutely freezing, one is tolerable but the other two are unbearable! This hotel was very peaceful and quiet which we did enjoy. Overall, we love coming to Mexico and trying new places but unfortunately we will not return to this Resort!
