We enjoyed our stay, the rooms and the staff were great, also the entertainment. The food was good, not great but good, the pools were very nice and clean. the only complaint is the beach it was a mess not usable and it was not the fault of the resort, the seaweed had overtaken the beach area. The staff worked very hard to keep the beach open but they were fighting a loosing battle and the seaweed they had piled up next to the beach left a terrible odor throughout the resort. we did have a great time in Mexico and plan to return again.

Not What It Was Before

I had been at the resort about 8 years previous and had a great experience, top shelf liquor, facilities well maintained and room where very comfortable. This visit was different. The room did not have a dresser for cloths or lighting in the main part of the room, only in the bathroom. The selection of liquor was not top shelf. Food was good but not great. Adult pool was murky and needed paint and attention/repairs. Family pool was clear but needed repair/paint. Tile leaaking air in hot tube and hot tub on family side was not hot. Seemed a little run down. Staff was attentive and friendly. Not sure I will visit again unless they do a total renovation. Water pressure was good.

Hotel itself is dated. Older fixtures and furnishings. The staff makes up for that, every working person at this resort has a smile and a hello. I mean everyone, from the front desk, to the bar staff, to a bus person and even the crew working all day on the beach. Thank you.

Pleasant Surprise

We booked this on a last minute deal. We were desperate to get out of the cold. We read the mixed reviews so didn't have huge expectations. We were so pleasantly surprised! We loved everything about this place, and how well everything worked out. The only negative was when we checked out, we were in a hurry as we had to grab some lunch before our ride came. The gal was insistent that we complete a survey first. I would have rather done it later, as I am doing this one. But I would go back in a heartbeat!

Good Vacation Spot, Not Great.

Feb 28 2019
We were looking for a last minute vacation spot for our Anniversary and took advantage of the Apple Vacations Deal of the Day. Booking was easy and we got a great deal. The resort is nice, clean, kept up well. Food is fair. I was expecting to have some of the best mexican food of my life but I was surprised to see that most of the food was cheap mass feeding options. Nothing very authentic. Rooms were clean and turn down service visited everyday. We have vacationed in several tropical location but this is the first where our linens were just "a little bit wet" all the time and some of our pillows smelled greatly of mold. Staff at the resort are very friend and kind. At the pool area waiters are quick to come by to serve drinks or take orders. You'll never have to get up if you don't want to! The beach itself is very pretty. We came when the wind was strong so we were able to watch some very talented surfers and that was very enjoyable. Unfortunately because of the wind none of the included water sports were being provided which was a disappointment. Of course you could spend extra money to do these activities off site if you wished. The beach had copious amounts of seaweed. The resort hires teams of men to constantly rake up the seaweed and they work so hard - but if you get into the water you are going to be stepping on a great deal of it. It was not a pleasant ocean experience. I mainly stayed on land or took advantage of the pools. Visiting the dolphins and manatees was a lovely daily experience. That is a great feature of the resort. The spa was lovely. If you have the time, definitely visit. VIP services will offer you discounts for this. To conclude, this is an average resort. It's not going to blow your socks off. It's not going to be the worst place you've ever visited. Side note - during our stay we were offered resort credit if we attended a session for the Unlimited Vacation Club. We were shuttled to the Secrets Resort and given a sales pitch for an "exclusive" vacation club deal. Basically they wanted us to prepay for 30 years of vacations. I would not recommend signing up for this club. Be cautious.

We were not impressed with this place at all. Not major issues but enough to make stay disappointing. One day we ask for table for lunch 3 empty tables all in sun, so we say no because of the sun turn to go to bar 10 feet away and look back and they are moving same table into shaded area for someone else, did not sit well with us. Bar staff not social at all. Will not stay there ever again. 6 Golden apple it is NOT.

Great separate adult area

We loved the fact that there is an adults only pool with swim up bar, and a HOT jacuzzi. The food selections at the buffet were quite limited, and portions at the ala carte restaurants were small. If you're a smoker, this is definitely not the resort for you. Smoking is limited to a few designated areas, and strictly forbidden in your room or on the balcony. This didn't affect us since we're non smokers, but it was odd to see the smokers all huddled together in one spot. We spoke to one couple who arrived at the resort at 2 am and wanted a cigarette before going to bed. They went out on their balcony and lit up their cigarettes, and a few minutes later the phone rang in their room telling them they cannot smoke on the balcony! Big brother has cameras all over and they're watching you. While this is good for security, it's a little creepy that they're watching your every move.

This was the best vacation ever! The service by everyone I came in contact with was A1, 5 Star all the way! All staff very pleasant and accommodating! The pools were great, the jacuzzi on the adult side was wonderful! The food every where I ate was amazing! Room service- oh my goodness, wonderful! The spa services was amazing, I didn’t want to leave! My only complaint was that my room was not attractive, furniture outdated, deck furniture was broken up (couldn’t believe they actually had it for me to use - they did change it after I complained)! The room smelled like mildew and the bathroom mirror was not useable! The toiletries were full size and were wonderful! The bed was soooo comfortable that I didn’t want to leave it! If it weren’t for the room issues I would say it is my favorite resort!

Family with kids

My husband and I have been to other PDC Secrets & Moon Palace Cancun, so this was our first trip with kids....here it goes. This hotel was great in that it offered a kids club which my daughter (3yr) loved. The restaurants were nice (especially the buffet breakfast), but we have definitely had better. The kids loved the pool, even though it was a bit chilly. I also liked that they had an outdoor buffet during lunch time to grab food while everyone is enjoying either the beach or pool. The beach is small, but we loved it. The water was fantastic with lots of fish, but my only suggestion is to bring water shoes for the kids since there are some rocks in the water...it really wasn't that bad though. The kids club offered us beach toys for the kids which we returned at the end and that was appreciated. We went off property to take the ferry over to Cozumel on day, but stayed on the property the entire week. Highly recommend for families.

Beware of mildew!!
Footprints649762,

Foe the life of me I can not understand how this resort has so many good reviews. We were there for a wedding with a large group. Almost every person in the group had issues with their room. Every single person complained of a mildew smell. I personally had mildew stained in my bathroom mirror. The maid who came to clean said she thought the smell was coming from the air conditioner. We had to wash all of our clothes when we returned home because of the smell. We didn’t have hot water the first day and after it was fixed the hot water was still temperamental. Multiple guests said their air conditioners kept breaking. The resort was old and in need of updating. Also about 75 percent of the wedding guests got a GI bug. This was my fifth time in Mexico at an all inclusive and my first time getting sick. The resort claimed to put all water through a filtration system but because of the amount of sick people in our group I’m not sure if the filtration system is working properly. Overall the food was good, but it was difficult figuring out what restaurants were open because the staff didn’t have any answers. We had large groups for dinner which we were told multiple times they couldn’t accommodate unless we purchased wine for the table. We later found out that since the bride and groom were VIP guests the reservations for large tables should have been free. One of the guests got stung 23 times by a beehive right outside the resort. It’s fine, and we understand that accidents happen however the resort did not have an epi-pen on the property. As a nurse, I find this negligent to the guests at a large resort. The wedding and reception were beautiful and the wedding staff were extremely helpful. As other guests mention, the beach was full of seaweed. I would not recommend this resort. Especially for the price they charge. I have had much better experiences at resorts that charge less. I am an avid TripAdvisor user and was disappointed that a 4 star resort with so many great reviews was so lackluster.

Staff are definitely good with the service. The beach is terrible seaweed everywhere, I would not recommend this place if you like the beach. I would have liked to see a larger pool. I also think the hotel rooms need updating. The food has been good, we have a beautiful view of the dolphin area on 7th floor. My kids have really enjoyed the entertainers especially up at the basketball area. I think the preferred club has been a huge rip off, I don’t see any benefits of getting this other than you get your own lounge area. Totally not worth the money. You get ONE can of Pringle’s and M&Ms for your whole stay, no newspaper like they advertise and the resort credits is more like 200.00 in coupons and only allowed to take an amount off at certain places. I thought being part of preferred I could have the concierge book our reservations and they said no. We will see what the rest of the stay but in talking to others 8/10 said they would not return.

I booked this resort on the basis of the size. It was our first family vacation to Mexico and we wanted something smaller with close walk to beach. I read all the reviews and was skeptical about my choice so I will be completely honest for the next family. If you are looking for a party resort, this is not the one for you which was perfect for my family. Shows shut down at 11:00 pm and only one inside lounge bar is opened until 1 am. They do have nightly entertainment, the fire show was our favorite. The area is absolutely beautiful and safe. The marina is in walking distance, you can do a daily bike tour with staff, and you can rent a golf cart and explore the shopping center yourself. The resort is a little older but that didn't bother us at all. The dampness and smells were okay for the first 3 days but then having to sleep in wet blankets and the smell of mildew on clothing was hard to take- especially on the way back home our luggage smelled absolutely disgusting and we had to wash everything 3 times to eliminate the smell. I know it's not the resorts fault as the humidity is just so bad. We stayed in the Preferred Dolphin King Suite on the 7th floor (room 739 ). It was the best choice! Our view overlooked the adult side which was quieter, still had view of the ocean, the marina and the dolphins. In the evening, if we did not want to watch the show below, we could sit on our balcony and watch it from there. The preferred lounge was the best perk! Breakfast served every morning was delicious and no crowds. The staff- Alfredo and Fernando was awesome. My husband would come out of the room and before he had a chance to get to the end of the hall where the lounge was, Fernando was greeting him with a beer! The beach was a little disappointing but we were well aware from the reviews I had read. The seaweed wasn't as big of a problem as people made it out to be. It was cleaned up well before we went down in the morning. It was just small, shallow and rocky and was closed off so we didn't even go in there- just used the pool. The swing bar was our favorite spot. The staff were all so great- especially Carlos. if you are a smoker, there is a smoking section across from the bar. The only other spot is in front of the resort and one section in the adult side. The food was not that great. They try really hard, I'm sure, but with a smaller resort, your options are limited. They have a wonderful Italian restaurant but it was only opened 4 nights of our stay. The Sushi was not out thing, the seaside grill was okay but not much of a choice on the menu. The World buffet was hit or miss and the Oceana on the adult side, we never ate there as we had our 11 year old son with us. Most nights we ate in our room using room service and that was fine with us. There is local restaurants off the resort that I heard was great. The entertainment staff were always keeping us busy. DeeDee is by far our favorite employee. That boy made us smile every time we seen him- always full of energy! He told us a great quote "I don't want to be remembered by the money I make but by the person I am". They always had things to do for guests- check out channel 2 each morning - it has the times of all the things happening for the day. It was easy booking excursions. I would recommend using the people situated by the Desires lounge area. The royal dolphin was listed for $160 but we only paid $70 because we were unlimited club members and staying at the resort. People wrote about the rodents. We seen one every morning walking around from our balcony before people came out and about and once or twice in the evening. Locals call him Charlie. It's not as bad as the review. Charlie is just looking for food and does not pay attention to anyone around him. The pool area was clean, towels always available, no problem finding a lounge chair. Our rooms were cleaned twice a day, the staff are all amazing and always willing to help you out in any way they can. All so friendly, we felt like we were the only ones there at times. That is a plus of being at a smaller resort. The kids in the explorer's club looked like they were always having fun. My son did not attend anything there because it was always filled with children around 6 years of age and younger. But the pool area was always full with kids his age playing volleyball and such. All in all, I would recommend this resort to others. Whether you are a family or a couple- the adult side was always quieter and the adults seemed quite content. We did however, develop some "belly" sickness and spoke to a few other couples who had the same issues- not sure if it was just a bug being spread around the resort or not but it lasted 7 days so just a heads up.

Nice hotel, food and staff were good. Swimming area is small but beach area is very nice, easy to find chairs, bartenders very attentive. Beautiful views on water side, dolphin side was interesting. 7th floor views were beautiful. Activities were good.

Great service in all respects. Our room was spacious and the staff was responsive. Food was good and the beach area was very nice. There were many activities to choose from each day. The Dolphin Discovery on the property was a real perk.
