I travelled with my husband and two children 18 and 14. We had high expectations for this hotel from looking at the photos and previous trip adviser reviews. Through no fault of Thomson's we had to wait on the coach outside of the airport for an hour with no explanation from the rep. We knew why as we could hear the family talk about their missing luggage. So not a great start. The drive to the hotel was ok. On arrival I was a little disappointed as there wasn't much of a welcome , no fresh cold towel or cold drink. It took along time to sort out our room situation after already emailing ahead of our request . It seemed like the hardest thing for them to sort out. We really could have done without this hassle. The rooms were ok , dim light in the bathroom and the air con at night was so loud. But the rest of the hotel that we saw was immaculate. We loved the beach, not much to see snorkelling wise but the water is a beautiful blue and the sand is lovely apart from the cigarette buts that are continually dropped by people on sun loungers . Surely the hotel can come up with a solution to this? Our favourite place to eat at lunch was the Seaside Grill (Victor & Cornelio were lovely waiters) , the view is amazing and the food really nice. Favourite places to eat in the evening would be Oceana , Himitsu(Carlos M so happy and Angel) and World Café (Benny and Joel).Almost forgot the French restaurant was in another league to the other restaurant's we tried, Willy our waiter was just brilliant. The service for us was always perfect with the right amount of friendliness and professionalism from the waiters and front of house. We never had to wait long for anything. We loved walking up to the beach bar where Edwin would always have a smile and remember you and what you liked to drink. Elizabeth who would walk up and down the beach always happy and caring. We loved having a drink outside of the lobby after the beach and Louredez and actually all of the bar staff were happy and friendly. We found the beach to be perfect but there was a lot going on all the time which is ideal for some people but I wanted to relax a bit more, the entertainment staff never hassled us it's just it was a very active place. Yes we could have moved further away down the beach but we liked where we were . We did the Caribbean cruising trip which we all loved!!! Victor talked so passionately about this trip that we had to go on it and Carlos and the team on the boat and catamaran were spot on. My daughter whose 18 loved the ease of making friends and the nightlife in the hotel. Something we haven't come across before on previous holidays. Not sure I liked it. My son whose 14 didn't want to go off and make friends but he was ok with us for the most part! When he looked at the football pitch he was really disappointed as it was away from the main hotel and was a sad excuse for a pitch what a shame, probably a good way of teenagers to make more friends. As other people have said it's the people who work at Dreams La Romana who make this hotel, they are so warm and friendly . I think if you give a bit you get it back. One regret I spent nearly two weeks wishing I would get up and do the aerobic dance class in the sea, I didn't want to do it on my own! On the penultimate day I plucked up the courage and did it and loved it ! Why I didn't do it before I don't know but try it at least once. Angela and Pablo Picasso and all the team work sooooo hard , really they do . So a great holiday and memories but definitely room for improvement. Ps if you ever get to meet Yesenia you are in for a treat she is everything you would want from a front of house member of staff she is perfect ! PPS Please serve your hot food hot ! My daughter is nut allergic and every holiday comes with this worry , we were told by Dion to ask the concierge to type a letter to share with the restaurants . This was brilliant, the only time it didn't work was in the World Café when the chef didn't understand but yet again Yesenia came to our aid and asked a head chef Starling to help which he did , it was an honour for him to personally make Amy a pasta dish so we knew it was nut free ! great service thank you love Shelley

3rd Time - Still a Charm!!!

This was our 3rd year in a row at Dreams La Romana and everything was still wonderful! The resort is amazing - beautiful grounds, several pools, a beautiful beach, comfortable rooms, and a great Explorer's Club (kids club) with great staff and plenty of activities for kids all day long! Room: We had a preferred club room, and the room was very comfortable and spacious. Plenty of space and a good size bathroom. Also, since we faced the preferred pool, it was always quiet at night - no loud music so it was easy to go to sleep at a decent time. The A/C works very well - a little loud but it does cool the room. Food: Overall the food was very good. By far, Bordeaux (adults only) was the best. Great service - the waiters were extremely friendly and the food was excellent. Seaside Grill was good for both lunch and dinner. Himitsu - Food here was excellent - combo of shrimp, chicken, steak, and rice. Don't expect much of a traditional "show" as you would at a traditional Japanese hibachi restaurant, but the food here was excellent. Breakfast at the World Café was ok - always a decent variety of food. For lunch there were plenty of good options from pizza by the main pool to the Barefoot grill on the beach. For all of you coffee/tea lovers, Coco Café is a nice place to sit down and have a drink and dessert (kind of like Starbucks - very similar atmosphere as well) Beach and Pools: Excellent on both! There were several wonderful pools which are spaced out throughout the resort; the main pool always had plenty of activities for adults as well as kids, the infinity pool was relaxing and had a good swim up bar. And there are two pools for preferred club guests - one for families and one for adults - these pools were always quiet, not too crowded and easy to find lounge chairs. The best part of this resort for me was the beach - beautiful, soft sand and calm water. Though not crystal blue water, it is clean and calm, with hardly any seaweed. There is also a cool trampoline in the ocean for kids to jump on and jump out of. Explorer's Club: Our son is 9 years old, and he loved the Explorer's Club. I would like to give special recognition to the entire staff at the Explorer's Club! They are very friendly, kind, and do so many activities with the kids all day long. From boat rides in the water, soccer and other sports, games on the beach and pool, camping on the beach, to watching movies at night, there are activities all day for the kids. I had no issues or concerns with leaving my son at the Club for hours at a time - I knew that he was always safe and having fun! This also allowed my wife and I to have some time to ourselves and go to the adults only restaurants. It is because of the Explorer's Club (and its great staff) that made this vacation extra special for my son. As mentioned above, I hope that the hotel management would give special recognition to the entire staff - they work hard all day long and is the main reason we keep on returning to Dreams Resorts. The core zone also has cool activities for teenagers and younger kids - ping pong, pool tables, and a basketball net. My son loved spending time here during the day as well. Entertainment Staff - excellent staff - very friendly and engaging to encourage people to do various activities (without being too pushy either). Special recognition to Angela, Pablo Picasso and the rest of the entertainment staff; they work tirelessly throughout the day! To sum up, great hotel, great service with awesome pools and beach! If possible, I would also recommend the preferred club. The employees at the preferred club lounge were extremely nice and friendly - they were always so helpful throughout our stay!

My partner and I (both mid 20s) stayed at Dreams for two weeks last month. I could not fault one aspect of the resort. From the warm greeting at reception to the efficient and helpful departure it was perfect. We did not upgrade to the preferred club and will not be when we go back... We really didn’t see that much of a difference for the price involved, perhaps worthwhile if you wished to utilise the adults only pool but we felt that was very isolated and had no sea view. We managed to eat at all the restaurants and found that our favourites were the French and Asian cuisine. Room service was a great addition, and we used this on a couple of afternoons after too much sun and rum by the pool! The jewel in crown at this place are the staff, as almost every review states there are too many to name individually. But there were a selection that made our stay extra special: • Eddy Murphy, Olman and Pablo Picasso from the entertainment team were so friendly and lovely to spend time with, so much so that Pablo joined us for breakfast on our last day! • Edward was the face who greeted us and was the one who waved us good bye at reception, very helpful and extremely efficient. • Alejandro at the evening “pop-up bar” was fantastic, great at remembering our favourite drinks and always served them with a smile... “Super Excellente”. • Our favourite member of staff was Ariel, he served drinks around the infinity pool, was a delight to speak with and made the best drinks on the resort. As I said I could not fault the resort, but if I had one bit of feedback for management it would be regarding the Carnival cruise clients that descended onto the resort for a day. They were loud and their language was appalling, we noticed many people left the beach, infinity pool and main pool that day. The resort became a ghost town apart from the debauchery, drink fueled clients! They left at 4pm and things soon returned to normal. We were very sad to leave but will be going back in two years… looking forward to seeing you all!

Marbella in the carribean

We have been here a week so far and i think people need to appreciate the size of this resort. There are approx 1200 rooms with an average occupancy of three per room that means potentially 3600 people. So if you are use to small and elegant this is not the place for you. Nice things Beach and sea are nice, the beach is a bay and very calm. We go snorkelling every day and have seen a starfish, a couple of stingrays and lots of little fish. Staff All are pleasant and helpful. Plenty of security on sight. The entertainment staff keep things ticking alone and work hard to make sure you are entertained. They even managed to teach my son the salsa. There is a brilliant band from Venezuela, playing modern songs with guitar, double bass and violin. Food Feeding approx 3600 people three times per day is no mean feat and they do it well. The food is well prepared and there is lots of choice. There is no marmite so if you can't face two weeks with out the liquid gold bring your own. Also we bought lots of robinsons squash miniatures as we don't like coke and the fruit juice is too sweet. Negatives People -as I said there are approx 3600 people here and this is Marbella in the carribean. There are the bed hoggers and the shade hoggers - the ones that go out from 5.30 in the morning to put their towels on beds under shades and by the pool. They then come out for a couple of hours in the morning and then disappear for three to four hours - leaving the towels under the umbrella so no one else can use them at the hottest time of the day. This is Marbella in the carribean and it attracts a certain class of traveller - like the fourteen year old girl who told my husband to "go on have a fxxking go then" during a water polo match as he approached her to defend his goal, he was approx 1 metre back from her. Needless to say he left the match to the potty mouth to play. So be prepared for that sort of behaviour. Smoking there is a lot of smoking everyway. The Dom rep is trying to establish itself as the cigar centre for the US, especially now that trump has reversed the Obama decision on Cuba, this means the Americans come here to buy their cigars. The sales people give them out like candy and they smoke them on the beach and every where. It stinks. Hotel management do nothing about this. Rooms Beds - these are the most uncomfortable beds in the world I have ever slept on. They are rock hard. The cushions are also rock hard and the pillows are like wafers they are so thin and unsupportive. Noise - the walls are paper thin, you can hear everything that happens in the rooms next door - and I mean everything. Plus people come back from the disco at 1.30 in the morning talking and laughing loudly. Toiletries- the free shampoo is like water and although meant to be a conditioner as well is useless - bring your own shampoo and conditioner as it is really expensive in the shop. 13usd, that is approx ÂŁ10 for a bottle of either shampoo or conditioner. Sun cream is even more expensive so bring plenty. Gym - the gym closes at 7pm every night so if you need to exercise in the evening there is no where to go. I have to exercise to control my type 2 and I have to walk the main entrance every night as this is the only safely lite area. Will we return - no this is not our kind of holiday and being trapped in the hotel is not our thing either, we use to being able to go out and see the island - we normally go to Barbados.

2nd time.... even better!

We visited dreams La Romana this time last year, and we're back again. We are here with our 6 yr old daughter in the preferred club. We have again been looked after by all the wonderful staff here. Catherine at the preferred reception sent some cupcakes to decorate with a home made card đź’–. Catherine has been incredibly helpful to us, along with the other reception team. Cristina and Amelia at the preferred pool bar are angels at supplying endless amounts of cocktails. The lovely Williams and his staff at the Seaside grill for great service for breakfast and lunch. Staff here really can't do enough for you. The grounds are amazing and spotless. Trips... We booked 2 trips through Scruba caribe.... with Pedro. Now some previous reviews mention these guys as beach sellers, which worried us last year.... BUT they are connected to the hotel and are very good. Pedro was really helpful. We did soana island with them and they arranged for our friends staying at the Dominicus to come on the same trip. We also did Catolina island, this trip is a must. Thank you to the Dreams team for making this such an enjoyable holiday. We hope to see you next year !
