Dreams Hautulco was a Dream

We have stayed at many all inclusive resorts including RIU, Sandals, Holiday Inn Sunspree, and Iberostar. This vacation is at the top of our list. We loved Huatulco and the fact it has not been Americanized. You won't find a McDonald's or any other American fast food place. The resort was very good. Great variety of food at buffet and the a la carte restaurants were all good to great. They know how to cook fish down there. Staff was great and always friendly. It was nice to go to a place where there was a great diversity of guests including Mexican nationals. We had no complaints. We got a great deal through Apple and we had no problem with Swift Air. We got a little late start taking off but we arrived back a few minutes early. Just normal travel thing. Flight attendants were very nice. We would not hesitate to book this exact trip again via Apple Vacations.

This was our first stay in a Dreams resort. I’ve always heard how they excel and thought this would be an upgrade. Found the resort to be more average. Food was ok. Entertainment was lacking at the pools during the day and shows at night. Had issue with our jacuzzi tub and had to call multiple times to get it serviced. They ran out of several different types of drinks we were enjoying. You would think alcohol would be stocked up. This was a slower week for them and they only open certain restaurants each night. Communication was poor as to what was scheduled. Do not feel this resort earns 6 golden apples. Did enjoy the area, weather, pools and friendly people. Felt safe at all times.

We had a wonderful trip with 2 of my grown children. The service is amazing. Then the day before we left we had a very expensive pair of shoes missing from our room.

Food of Oaxaca
GARY T.
Feb 07 2018
We thought the food had changed from 3 years ago. We liked it better before. It seemed more regional, different spices. This time the food was just like all the other cities in Mexico. Nothing different, nothing that was Oaxaca. I think if you incorporate a little of each locale in the food, people would like it more. Not totally different, but not the institutional sameness

Love Huatulco - Dreams is good for family with children - adult only just ok -

This is our first visit to Huatulco and Dreams. We love the area, people, ocean activities, safety of area and the eco minded resort and overall community. Peaceful and very beautiful - downside is the travel to and from LAX... don't like not being able to fly directly to Huatulco - Mexico City airport is big and draining on one energy. The Huatulco airport is awesome - why are there NO direct flights - the Canadians enjoy that feature. Our departing flight was delayed and Aeromexico did a great job of taking care of us by picking up the expenses for the delay out of our control. Only problem was the very long travel connections. We would go back to Huatulco if there was a direct flight in the Huatulco International airport - they do have customs. We were with a family and friends celebrating my sons 50th birthday - when we made our reservations with Apple we made specific arrangements to have all of rooms close to each other - that did not happen and the hotel staff said that they do not make that guarantee - why aren't Apple and the Dreams on the same page - do not make arrangements that are not able to be kept! I used the spa for a very over priced mani and pedi - can't even hold a candle to what I receive at home. For the price I would have thought I would enjoy a nice foot/leg hand/arm massage --- NOT. Just a gentle rub - and my polish job didn't hold up. Attendant very sweet but the whole experience wasn't worth the price - fish tank was fun and I should have stopped there. I would like a call from an Apple rep to discuss my comments but I am not holding my breathe.

We have returned to Dreams for four years in a row. We love the hotel/people/weather and the area. We did notice this trip that the evening dinners quality and selection were no where near as good as in the past. The food at breakfast and lunch was excellent. We will be returning in February to the Secrets Resort.

huatulco - dreams resort vacation
MARTIN T.
Apr 19 2017
Loved the Dreams resort absolute perfect weather every day even though it said chance of storms several days, we never hardly saw one cloud.. restaurant situation was a bit “off” the Mexican restaurant was closed due to a jewish group being there and using it the ENTIRE week for all their meals.. so the resort had to shut down the seafood restaurant several days in order to service Mexican food there.. and the Italian restaurant closed one night as well…. We had thought all five restaurants were to be open every night…. Some of the food tasted the same in several restaurants, we did enjoy several good dinners though.. The issue for dinner for us was that after showering and dressing up, it would have been nice to eat at an AIR CONDITIONED dining room… all but the Italian restaurant is outdoors, and in Huatulco, the temp and humidity are very high and can get uncomfortable while your eating…. The Italian is also the most formal restaurant. Just would have liked to dine in comfortable temperatures in the evening after being in the heat/sun all day…. Staff was excellent.. a few language barriers at times in translating what we wanted or needed… but nothing that we couldn’t handle….. our stay was excellent.. Took a waterfall tour… that was nice… the two hour horrific rocky/bumpy road to the mountains was less than enjoyable though… originally we had booked an ATV ride to the mountains which got cancelled due to the community protesting and blocking the roads, so we ended up booking through doing the Van ride to the mountain for same price. Also took a boat/snorkel tour… saw turtles, dolphins, did some fishing, ate ashore (exchange rate was a ripoff ashore btw… lunch cost us $150 american dollars for tacos guacamole and a couple beers) – next time we skip the lunch and head back to hotel earlier….saw some very exotic cool fish.. our diver caught a puffer fish and let us hold it, as well as several star fish… got some great underwater photos/videos We didn’t realize it was the week when thousands of people from Mexico city flock to the pacific coast for their religious holiday… so after three nice and relaxed uncrowded days by our pool/resort, we were bombarded with hundreds of family with small kids who some of which had no disregard for smoking, running in between our pool chairs and not being supervised…. Lucky they mostly left after wednesday evening, so we had Thursday and Friday back to somewhat quieter resort. Nightlife no good for teens

Disappointed

Currently staying at the Dreams, it is a beautiful place with one serious problem every night they close at least half the a la cart restaurants. Last night you had a choice of seafood or Asian, the grill, Italian, and Mexican were all closed. When you have paid 6k for a family of 4 this is unacceptable. Close at most one restaurant a night not 3.

Went to Dreams Huatulco on a last minute trip with another couple. We changed our destination to Huatulco because of safety concerns with Cancun/Riviera Maya area. We were pleasantly surprised with the beauty of the area. Mountains, rocky cost line, plush beaches, rivers, lots of sunshine and great golf. The hotel was as expected small, clean, good food, nice staff (struggled with English at times), felt very safe in and out of hotel. Overall I would rate as a 4 star. Pros: Food, drinks, clean beach, scenery, clean rooms, adults only pools, affordable Cons: This is not an adults only place, service was average but not bad, staff have limited English skills, music at night went to long

I stayed at dreams Huatulco on a Christmas family vacation. For the amount I paid to stay here, I was filled with regret and wanted to leave early. I returned to the hotel one night with a friend I had made in town and planned to have her spend the night. I was stopped by security and she was forced to leave. I even offered to pay extra if it was going to be such an issue, which BS to begin with. If I rent a room I intend On bringing whoever I want over for the night. Needless to say they ruined my evening. Overall the attitude, service and food sucked! Lesson learnt, make sure you do your research before shelling money out to these people. Dreams sucks!!!

It pains me to write this review because we had anticipated this trip as being amazing, and I thought for sure we would love it. We read all the reviews ahead of our trip and our expectations were high. But after staying a week at Dreams Huatulco we really can't understand why it gets such amazing reviews. We've done a lot of all inclusive holidays and this hotel is average. Some great points; beautiful location, quiet, close to airport. However the food was average at best. For a resort that advertises ultimate luxury the food was just ok. No guacamole (I know this is nit-picky but having to "ask" for guac is annoying), no smoked salmon. Hot food is often cold or lukewarm. In our week there we never once saw anyone checking the food temperature at the buffets. This may or may not have had something to do with both my daughter and myself getting quite sick (mine was a violent case of food poisoning). This definitely put a damper on the trip :-( Also I have heard of "watered down alcohol" but this was the first AI I've stayed at where the beach and pool bars DEFINITELY watered down their bottles (not so in the Preferred Club Lounge). Super disappointing and really affected the quality of the drinks. We stayed at Dreams over Easter and the resort was at full capacity. The pools were VERY busy. If you weren't down first thing in the morning you would not get a decent spot. Same goes for the beach, but the beach is lovely and had more room to spread out. We upgraded to a Preferred Club room and had access to the PC Lounge. This was great. Premium brand liquor and great service. The views were fantastic. Our room however was very small for a family of 4 (tiny with two double beds - as there was no room for queens). One night at turn down our bed sheets had black dirt or mold all over the sheet. It took 4 calls over 2 hours to have housekeeping come and change the sheets. Despite the sheet incident our daily housekeeper - Lydia - was lovely and did a great job cleaning our room. The service also was inconsistent. We LOVED the bartender in the preferred club lounge - but the rest of the staff were hit or miss. Not the normal "warmth" we've come to expect from Mexico (and again reading other reviews I keep thinking "were we at the same resort?"). We did have an amazing anniversary dinner at the adults only Italian restaurant, Portofino. The food was good and the service was very nice, with extra effort made to celebrate our anniversary. We ordered room service twice (once when we did an early morning outing and the other time while recovering from food poisoning) and the service for room service was amazing. This was a positive. We brought a lot of cash and tipped generously - but I don't think this affected the service either way. Nor did it feel like the servers got to know us, or recognized us after several days at the same restaurant for breakfast, and the beach bar. The exception to this was the Preferred Club Lounge - very warm attentive service. We traveled with our 11 year old twins - not a lot of activities for kids this age although they did enjoy the pool and beach a lot! Overall we thought Dreams was "pretty good" in some areas and "just ok" in others. Food and ambiance are important to us, so the meals were a disappointment overall, and the overcrowded pools were a turn off. For the list price the rooms are very small. The upgrade to Preferred Club was worth it for the view and the PC Lounge. If you go though definitely book Pilo for a boat tour of the Bahias of Huatulco. We had an amazing experience and it made our whole trip worthwhile.

WOW. What a vacation!
