Love Huatulco - Dreams is good for family with children - adult only just ok -

This is our first visit to Huatulco and Dreams. We love the area, people, ocean activities, safety of area and the eco minded resort and overall community. Peaceful and very beautiful - downside is the travel to and from LAX... don't like not being able to fly directly to Huatulco - Mexico City airport is big and draining on one energy. The Huatulco airport is awesome - why are there NO direct flights - the Canadians enjoy that feature. Our departing flight was delayed and Aeromexico did a great job of taking care of us by picking up the expenses for the delay out of our control. Only problem was the very long travel connections. We would go back to Huatulco if there was a direct flight in the Huatulco International airport - they do have customs. We were with a family and friends celebrating my sons 50th birthday - when we made our reservations with Apple we made specific arrangements to have all of rooms close to each other - that did not happen and the hotel staff said that they do not make that guarantee - why aren't Apple and the Dreams on the same page - do not make arrangements that are not able to be kept! I used the spa for a very over priced mani and pedi - can't even hold a candle to what I receive at home. For the price I would have thought I would enjoy a nice foot/leg hand/arm massage --- NOT. Just a gentle rub - and my polish job didn't hold up. Attendant very sweet but the whole experience wasn't worth the price - fish tank was fun and I should have stopped there. I would like a call from an Apple rep to discuss my comments but I am not holding my breathe.

We have returned to Dreams for four years in a row. We love the hotel/people/weather and the area. We did notice this trip that the evening dinners quality and selection were no where near as good as in the past. The food at breakfast and lunch was excellent. We will be returning in February to the Secrets Resort.

I would have not paid for 'Preferred Plus' if I knew that Volaris did not have first class seating.

huatulco - dreams resort vacation

Loved the Dreams resort absolute perfect weather every day even though it said chance of storms several days, we never hardly saw one cloud.. restaurant situation was a bit “off” the Mexican restaurant was closed due to a jewish group being there and using it the ENTIRE week for all their meals.. so the resort had to shut down the seafood restaurant several days in order to service Mexican food there.. and the Italian restaurant closed one night as well…. We had thought all five restaurants were to be open every night…. Some of the food tasted the same in several restaurants, we did enjoy several good dinners though.. The issue for dinner for us was that after showering and dressing up, it would have been nice to eat at an AIR CONDITIONED dining room… all but the Italian restaurant is outdoors, and in Huatulco, the temp and humidity are very high and can get uncomfortable while your eating…. The Italian is also the most formal restaurant. Just would have liked to dine in comfortable temperatures in the evening after being in the heat/sun all day…. Staff was excellent.. a few language barriers at times in translating what we wanted or needed… but nothing that we couldn’t handle….. our stay was excellent.. Took a waterfall tour… that was nice… the two hour horrific rocky/bumpy road to the mountains was less than enjoyable though… originally we had booked an ATV ride to the mountains which got cancelled due to the community protesting and blocking the roads, so we ended up booking through doing the Van ride to the mountain for same price. Also took a boat/snorkel tour… saw turtles, dolphins, did some fishing, ate ashore (exchange rate was a ripoff ashore btw… lunch cost us $150 american dollars for tacos guacamole and a couple beers) – next time we skip the lunch and head back to hotel earlier….saw some very exotic cool fish.. our diver caught a puffer fish and let us hold it, as well as several star fish… got some great underwater photos/videos We didn’t realize it was the week when thousands of people from Mexico city flock to the pacific coast for their religious holiday… so after three nice and relaxed uncrowded days by our pool/resort, we were bombarded with hundreds of family with small kids who some of which had no disregard for smoking, running in between our pool chairs and not being supervised…. Lucky they mostly left after wednesday evening, so we had Thursday and Friday back to somewhat quieter resort. Nightlife no good for teens

I would recommend offering some healthier food options. All veggies had butter or oil and even fish was offered with a lot of oil. I tried to ask for my fish to be grilled one day and they said that the cook doesn't cook on the grill station and could only prepare it on the griddle.

Very impressed with Dreams Hotel and Huatulco. The weather is best in Mexico, hotel was immaculate and the staff went out of their way to provide service. Lots of options for dinner. Different pools and bars for different speeds. The Huatulco area is surrounded by national national parks and the Sierra Madres Mountain range provides an excellent background. Clean beaches and great snorkeling. Also rafting, fishing and waterfalls. If you want to experience a five star hotel at a good price, try the Dreams.

Great Dreams in Huatulco

The trip was great. Plenty of nearby shops to spend time wandering around in looking for that deal. The people are genuine and friendly, and extremely hard working. Only one minor drawback, and that was the push to upsell for the next trip. Don't care for the hard sell, and they backed off when we told them no.

Mediocre

It’s with a heavy heart that I rate Dreams with a 3 and call it mediocre. My wife and I have been a regular Dreams customer in Puerto Vallarta for the past number of years and have loved every minute of it. Having decided to we wanted to explore another area of Mexico but not wanting to comprise on service we decided to come to the Dreams in Huatulco. Now into day number three here of our 10 day trip I must say that we regret that decision whole heartedly. While we enjoy Huatulco we have found out that not all Dreams are created equally. We fully expected a dated resort based on previous reviews and that, while accurate, is not an issue. But the level of service and food quality here is just so disappointing. We’ve never been ones to come to a resort and expect the world on a platter, we understand how busy everyone gets. We have received good drink service while pool side and beach side. But we do appreciate being served while seated at an al a carte restaurant and not feeling ignored which has happened at three of the al a cartes for dinner as well as breakfast and lunch which we did not expect as high of level yet we’re still disappointed. Also mentioned earlier the food quality here is below what we’ve come to expect from the Dreams name. While we may return to Huatulco in the future sadly it will not be to the Dreams Resort here. Here’s to hoping things improve for the remaining seven days.

Incredible Resort. We found our second home.

My wife and I stayed at this wonderful resort from January 5-12/ 18. Here is a breakdown of our time here. Jan 5th- arrived to check in. The process was somewhat muddled in that we were told the room was not ready yet. Front desk directed us to another guy who wanted to upgrade us to a better suite. We firmly and politely asked to just settle into our room. We received our keys after backtracking to get our keys coded. At first we thought it was a bad omen, but it was a mere hiccup thank goodness. Pools were clean and grounds immaculate. Service exceptional. Food was very good with ample selection. Night time theme was Mexican on Friday. Great food and atmosphere. We don’t drink, so we left a note to not leave beer, and more of what we like. Jan 6th- lounged around all day taking in the sun. Snorkels, Kayaks, and sailboats all on site to check out at no charge. Service again exceptional. Kindness and promptness everywhere with workers wanting to serve. We notice a theme that when you thank those who serve you, the response from everyone is “ it’s our pleasure.” The workers seems authentic in saying so, and backing it up. Tried the Portofino restaurant, and it was ok. Some reviews state it was exceptional. To us, it was fine which is good by us. Room service saw our note, and to our pleasure they stocked it with what we asked for! This kept up for the whole week. Jan 7th- again, another day lounging around Resort. We tried the El Patio restaurant. This to us was exceptional. The mariachi band played inside, the food was awesome, and the drinks were great. Great day to enjoy the 1 of 6 pools available to everyone. Jan 8th- another great day relaxing by the pool. We notice that there are 2 room services. 1 to clean the room, and another to turn down the bed. We also notice the room service turn the AC to off while we are out. It was a minor thing to come back to turn the AC on to cool the room off, but I “ get” the power consumption thing. Jan 9th- my wife won the first 2 bingo games, and I won the 3rd game. She won a frisbee, a funny character hat. The last game is a bottle of red wine. Activities most days include water aerobics , kids games, bike rides, sailing lessons, yoga, bingo, kayaking, and snorkelling. Something to do for everyone! Jan 10th- this day was incredible. We enrolled in a vegetable carving class, and made a penguin out of an eggplant. Big time props to Ricardo, and Gladis for leading the way. Ricardo’s English/ Spanish, coupled with his youthful enthusiasm spoke volumes how much this young man loves his job. They were fantastic. The food, service, and activities were SO good, that I sent a private message to the Facebook page of the Dreams Resort thanking them for all they had done. We pointed out Gladis and Ricardo to be commended. They all deserved to be thanked for their hard work. That was at 2:45. We also noted that the food at the main buffet was being checked with thermometer probes, and the pool was being checked for water safety. This is huge to see customers safety as a priority. At 5:15, we go back to our room, and a worker puts a banner on our door that says “ Welcome Facebook Friends” Around 6 pm, Adrian Bohorquez from e-concierge media relations calls down to our room, thanking us for the kind comments, and that if there was anything more they could do, then we were to let them know. At 9 pm, we get a knock on the door. I look through the peep hole, and it was room service. I open the door, and here the Dreams surprised us with complimentary white wine, with chocolate covered strawberries as a further thank you for the positive comments. We were floored, and shaking our heads how much the staff value comments made on social media. VERY CLASSY, and very cool to be treated so royal like this. Jan 11th- our last full day. I rented a jet ski, and swam in the pools. The service was its usual exceptional self, and we began to prepare for the beginning to the end of our fabulous time. I snorkelled, and fed the fish that swim to shore always looking for food. What a thrill to watch fish swarm around you in the water! I met Adrian in passing and thanked him for arranging the nice surprise of wine and strawberry chocolates. He thanked me again, and sent me a private message expressing his happiness to have met me. Total class. Jan 12th- it was time to head home. Inside the World Cafe, it was not lost on us how one man, Rogelio, set such a high standard of cleanliness, and service expectations for the staff serving us. The 4 main ones that we saw were Rogelio, Alma, Rocio, and Jesus. There are more too, who went above, and beyond the call to make our holiday stay remarkable. Not a single one let us down. Now for a few other neat things about this resort.. - the Coco Cafe bar makes smoothies, and assorted pastries and goodies. Great food at any time. - the resort provides SPF15 sun lotion, along with your shampoos and soaps. All smell wonderful. - The safe works 110% with no issues. - there is no reservations required for any of the a la cart restaurants. The Japanese and Portofino restaurants have a waiting line, but if you are patient, it takes no more than 20 minutes to get seated. - if you want a preferred spot by the pool, one needs to get there by 7-8 am to pick your spot. Otherwise you pick what is available. - workers came around every 1/2 hour to ask if we needed any drinks. They were prompt and accurate with what we asked for. - the amount of work the resort workers put in putting on the nightly themes is nothing short of phenomenal. They bust their butts putting on a great show and atmosphere, and for that, we are humbled you go to such lengths to treat us so well. THANK YOU!! In conclusion, if you want to experience luxury, with activities for the kids and adults, this is the place. If you want relaxation, coupled with romantic times alone, this is the place. Finally, if you want to go to a resort where you dread going home because you had such a great time, the Dreams Huatulco is the place. We will be back. That we can assure you.

Looking for a great vacation? this is the place!!
