Went to Dreams Huatulco with family from teens to seniors. Dreams Huatulco is a compact resort. With the varied ages, this worked well as no one got lost and no one was kept waiting for others. Check in was quick- among the quickest of my experience. Rooms were nice - clean, bright and airy and located all together without our asking. The balcony was small but we only used it for drying. Toiletries were lovely. Maid service was top notch, done every morning and spoiled us with beautiful flowers. In the main building, second floor, is the 24h coffee shop which offered a wide selection of specialty coffees, smoothies, tea, milk (and any alcohol you would like) and delicious pastries from cookies to chocolate glazed doughnuts. This spot was a big hit. Across is the hotel convenience shop. Had everything we needed - prices were not as high as hotels in Cancun or Mayan Riviera. A silver shop is across the way. There is one main restaurant, ground level, glass on three sides that opens for buffet breakfast and lunch, sometimes dinner. The other restaurants are a la carte, open on a rotating schedule. The Italian restaurant is adults only. The food was good quality and varied. You should know this area offers a less Americanized menu than the Caribbean side. For the kids there were burgers, hot dogs, which everyone liked and excellent French fries. Pizza was available several times but usually had seafood on it. The only change we wished for was a snack bar that u could go to with just swimsuits. Coverups were required everywhere and given the high temperatures, 30+, putting on anything and sitting open air was uncomfortable. Breakfast was buffet in the glass restaurant. Excellent quality selections. Lunch offered the choice of buffet at the glass restaurant, with AC, or a beachside bar/grill. The beachside grill served great burgers, dogs, fries as well as BBQ meats fish, salads and breads. Service here was hit or miss. Sometimes you would be. Fought a drink, other times we went to the bar ourselves. It could be improved if burgers- dogs were constantly cooking instead of started when you asked for one. This resulted in lots of people waiting at the grill at one time and blocking the rest of the buffet. This was a spot that would have been better if coverups/shirts n sandals were not required. Way way hot. For dinner, surprisingly our favourite was the Japanese restaurant. Good food and good service. Another surprise, the Italian was the least favourite restaurant probably because we were hoping for something familiar and nothing was. The pools were lovely and warmer than we are used to for Mexico which we liked very much. Rude, thoughtless people put towels on loungers to "reserve" them and then never showed up. Ask the towel attendant and he/she will happily remove them for you. No silly cards for towels, just get one n go! The adult pool that's back from the ocean is huge and generally quiet. Service at the adult pool was provided by Daniel. He was stellar! Friendly, quick and an excellent memory! And real glasses for drinks. No little six ounce cups. He was our favourite staff member. The ocean was amazing. Warm warm warm and a stunning clear emerald colour. It drops off fast but we liked that. No one had to go "way out" to swim. Multiple freshwater showers lined the beach. Snorkelling was fun. Lots of needle fish and eels as well as a school of some silver fish that just loved to be fed by other guests. Diving was good- very colourful compared to the Caribbean - a bit cooler though. Saw a guitar shark - another once in a lifetime treat. We walked the beach end to end a few times. The sand is not powder but not too rough for bare feet either. We found the beach walks provided a natural pedicure! On the beach there are vendors selling everything from freshly caught and shucked oysters, to mountain grown coffee, to handbags and dresses. Many boats on the beach can be rented hourly, by the day, or by the week. The vendors, without exception, were lovely people and happy to chat even if you were not buying. We particularly liked Tony Lopez Lopez. Our rep, James, was helpful and polite. We all went on the sea turtle release outing. That was a once in a lifetime treat that we all treasure. Our guide/driver was excellent and accommodating. There are so many areas to explore from sheltered coves to ruins to waterfalls and towns. Be adventuress. The local people were lovely. Watched the nightly show. Very talented dancers from all over the world. Lots of fun! Movies at night were geared to very small children but the popcorn appealed to us all. Drinks varied, as usual, from one bar to the next. Dreams is a great spot to introduce you to Huatulco. Definitely on my "must return" list.

Upgraded beachfront, great staff, food and even room service! Great golf course nearby and even had a 4.9 earthquake during our stay. A la carte no problem to book and food and service was fantastic. Will definitely return!

We loved Huatulco. It seemed very authentic and unspoiled. Weather was beautiful. Hotel was nice with clean rooms. Food was good although it would have been nice to have something other than buffet choices for breakfast and lunch. Only half the restaurants were open for dinner each night. Pools and beach were great. We would definitely return to Huatulco but likely stay somewhere else.

I stayed at Dreams Huatulco the last couple of days in March and first week of April. The hotel itself is a renovated hotel turned into a Dreams resort. They have done a great job or renovating the hotel but there are a few things that are reminiscent of the old hotel. The thing that stand out the most is the small enclosed bathroom whee as you cannot keep the bathroom door open while using the shower as they open in opposite directions and bang against each other The pool and grounds have been completely renovated with the addition of more pools there is a total of 6 pools and one is dedicated to adults only but with the abundance of pools it was not hard to get away from the kids at the resort. There are 4 main ala Carte restaurants and because of the dress codes it was wasn't long to get tables as most family's do not feel like dressing up for dinner. The food was plentiful and quite delicious I never had a problem finding food at any of the restaurants and the buffet always had good food available. Desserts and pastries were my downfall this vacation as they were plentiful and delicious. Coco cafe is open 24 hrs a day and the coffee is very good with very attentive staff (pastries available there 24hrs a day). The staff throughout the entire resort were excellent and very accommodating. My favourite restaurant was the Himitsu but I am a little biased when there is Sushi available. I worked out everyday there and the availability of cardio and weights is limited but enough equipment to complete a workout if needed. I also took part in the spa services with the hydro therapy first prior to my massage, one tip is to check with the staff occasionally as they offer discounts every now and then. Overall I enjoyed staying at this resort and they follow the Dreams resorts motif which is nice to have when looking for consistency.

We spent a week at Dreams Huatulco and they were able to accommodate me with gluten free meals as I have celiac disease. Upon arrival, the concierge provided me with cards explaining my needs in Spanish to give to the servers at the restaurants. I would like to give a special thanks to Irlanda Salinas from the Seaside Grill for making my experience enjoyable and stress free. She always ensured her staff was aware of my condition and she went above and beyond by offering me various types of dishes that were cooked in a separate environment to avoid cross contamination. I loved the mahi mahi, shrimp as well as the tuna steak she served me, it was delicious. I would also like to thank Nuzzly from the Seaside Grill who greeted us every day with a great big smile and made us feel welcome.
