Good family hotel, some things to improve
taniacr, Mexico City, Mexico

The hotel is located in the Tangolunda bay, only two hotels have direct access to this part of the bay beach (Barcelo, Dreams), other hotel (Park royal) have a beach club in the bay but the hotel is located in the avenue. The bay is small and not tranquile, during all our stay we couldn´t swim at the sea because the red flag were shown, the first day we were only strolling at the beach and we notice that the tides were a little rough. The weather is nice but very hot, the first day we were at 36o C then we took a tour to Mazunte, Zipolite and Ventanilla and the temperature there were higher. It could be better if the hotel invest in more trees or some structures to protect the clients from the sun because there are places where, if you are not in a good spot you will be suffering a little, also some tourists like to leave their things in the best spots and then go to have breakfast in order to reserve the spots, so you couldn´t have the best places if you arrive at that time to the pools or the beach. It is a family hotel, so be prepare to be in a very noisy place, if you have kids, the hotel will try to locate you at ground level near the pool, this mean that all these rooms are noisy, then the hotel uses these corridors to transport certain things (glasses, sodas, equipment, etc.) so, this add more noise. I was at room 4161. In Huatulco you wouldn´t find any big chain restaurants, or stores like walmart, there is only one supermarket that is called Super Che (from the Chedraui chain), if you want to go to Crucecita (downtown) a taxi will cost you 40 pesos. Taxis are well organized here and you will have the same prize if you take one from Crucecita to the hotel. Having visited Mazunte, I think it would be wise for the hotel to have the beauty products that the community prepare as amenities or on sale, because they are good and natural products. Food and drink variety is not a strenght of the hotel, but the food is good, they try to fit the taste of the international tourist and some for the locals, without being to traditional (like having too spicy food). I think that the bathrooms could be enhaced, because none of them have air conditioning (nor in the facilities, nor in the rooms), in the rooms the bathrooms doesn´t have windows, air conditioning or air extractors that works. The pools are very nice, for the kids is wonderful that they could swim almost in all the pools (depth of 1.30 mts). You are not allowed to eat at the pools, but you could have all the drinks that you want. Overall is a good place, however since Huatulco has more bays and beaches next time I will try another hotel. Not Dreaming of the Food

My family and I had a good stay at the Dreams resort except for a few issues. The resort was clean and well maintained. Service was great. Pools and beach beautiful. We had stayed at the Now Amber last year and was expecting the food to be comparible. It was not. There was not enough selection at the buffet or fresh fruit. Same menu everyday. The a la cartes were inconsistent. I would find a dish I liked, go back the next day, and it was not at all the same. Some of my family ordered menu items and were served much different food than was described in the menu. Needless to say, we were all disappointed in the food. I was also disappointed that the a la cartes were not open daily and were open on a rotating basis. If the resort is full, I am not sure why the a la cartes can't be open daily. I have stayed at numerous resorts in Mexico and I would have to say this was the worst for food by far. Although the food was disappointing, we still had a good time. Can't say enough about the beach and infinity pools, just gorgeous. We stayed in building one along with 3 other family members, overlooking the L-shaped adult pool. One evening there was a wedding party at the pool with a live 9 piece band that played until 2 in the morning. This kept all of us up. We called the front desk but of course there was nothing they could do about it. It just amazes me that Dreams Resort management things there is nothing wrong with keeping all guests of Buliding 1 up until 2 am. We were not even given a warning about the party!! My parents room, which I upgraded to partial ocean view, had a few things that were not working in it (bathroom fan, lights). Plus the A/C did not cool off the room very well. Definitley not worth the extra money. I can say we will go back to Huatulco as we loved the area, but to a different resort. More>

'Anniversary Vacation' at Dreams Huatulco

Just returned from our fourth trip to Dreams Resort Huatulco April 19-26. We kindly requested a room upgrade upon arrival, and Carolina at front desk gave us a super upgraded room. By far, the entire Dreams staff here are the best you could ask for ! Special extra thank you's go out to server Brenda (seaside grill breakfast/lunch), Prospero, Alberto,Arturo, and Primi (Beach Bar near Preferred Section), Lifeguard Ivan, and lobby guy Ilich ! The Dreams staff always take care of you here...they are happy to listen and do their best to accommodate.... Beaches and pool always had chairs or pilapas available. Ocean was swimable but some decent waves from time to time... Heat was a factor, so shade was always at a premium this trip. Average temp was 34-36 degrees c (mucho caliente !), which was a lot hotter than Nov/Dec average temp of 28-29 degrees c. One noticeable change (a downgrade for sure) on this trip was the food....the lack of selection, and overall quality of the food was not as good as previous trips (Nov. 2015). Though I realize that this trip was on the tail end of Huatulco's last 2 weeks of having Sunwing and Westjet fly down here, I think that this classy resort needs to keep their food options and quality up to snuff anytime. The bar service and drinks were amazing, top shelf spirits and they had everything !! All in all, it was another great trip for us, and we look forward to coming back here in November again ! More>

We didn't want to leave!

This was our first time in Huatulco and we really loved it. The staff is friendly, almost everyone smiling everywhere we went! The check in took about 15 minutes, and our room was spacious, clean and bright. We were on the 3rd floor and unexpectedly got a jacuzzi room, without even asking for an upgrade! We also had a small view of the ocean, also unexpected! We were very happy! The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was quite large. The shower isn't fully enclosed which means there was quite a bit of water on the floor that first time. Once I got the hang of it, it was no problem. We had to call the front desk because we couldn't open the safe and were surprised to hear a knock within 10 minutes! The scenery is beautiful! The water is choppy but we were told that the bay that Dreams is on is the roughest of all the 9 bays in the area. It was beautiful to watch the waves crash on the rocks. There are two adult pools and I think 4 other pools. The water was warm and there was poolside drink service! We were able to get shaded chairs most times. Once we had to sit on the beach under an umbrella instead (poor us! :) I do have two complaints regarding the pools: The adult pool in the back isn't adequately signed, or 'monitored'. Many times there were children and/or families in that pool. And only once did a staff member do anything about it. If you're going to be nice enough to have an adult pool, it would be nice if the staff had the authority to say something to non-adults who are using it. The second complaint has to do with the shade, as mentioned multiple times in these reviews. They have built lovely wooden structures around the main pool. Those would be wonderful to have around the other pools as well. Since it is so hot and sunny in Huatulco, shade is a high commodity. Some people have complained that they wish there was food allowed by the pool. I actually appreciated this! It kept the place cleaner and there weren't any animals/birds scrounging for food! Speaking of the food, we really enjoyed it. The a la cartes were very yummy, and we didn't have to stand in line or wait, like I worried we would. The World Cafe was a nice place for breakfast and lunch. Dinner wasn't always a hit out of the park here. Some people mentioned there weren't any salads or fruits. I think they were at the Seaside Grill during the day-- they provide hamburgers and snacks-- because there is an island station at the World Cafe that has breads on one side and salad and fruit on the other. There's more fruit on the Kid's island station. Not every restaurant was open every day but it was very clear on the daily schedule they posted on the TV near the lobby stairs and on the second channel of your TV. Sorry, this became a humongous review. It's a nice resort that I would visit again. More>
