3rd time and still a "charm"

This was our third time to Dreams in Huatulco. I just love this place and all the friendly staff at Dreams. They are all very polite and extremely friendly, always wanting to please. Don't fine there are many "smokers" here so that is a nice surprise! Rooms are efficient, clean and well looked after. Our room housekeeper was happy with all the treats we left her as well as the tip we left on our last day. We enjoy Dreams because it's smaller than some of the factory hotels you find in other places. Food is plentiful and the variety is different each day. Luisa, the greeter at the main buffet is lovely and always greets you with a beautiful smile. Ana in the buffet is the absolute BEST of the wait staff; always attentive, never without a smile and such a happy lady. Our days were better having her as our server. Genner (pronounced Henner ) is the head greeter at the Asian a la carte restaurant and he is very polite, professional and cannot do enough to make you feel welcome. The food here is also delicious. Try out the Spa. I had a facial and it was the absolute best. So relaxing and they have specials each day at the spa. The evening show is at 8pm which we think is too early. Most guests were still eating dinner at that time so the attendance wasn't optimal. Attention to the beach continues all day and staff is always making sure all waste and debris is picked up. A great hotel for families and kid friendly with two pools for kids. There is a kids program so you can have some free time on the beach without "little Johnny". Not a really loud party type of hotel so you don't have to worry about noise when trying to get some sleep. Give Dreams a try, you won't regret it!

Amazing Trip to a Beautiful Area of Mexico

My husband and I just returned from a week at this beautiful resort and we had a wonderful time - our favourite vacation to date! We had a room on the fourth floor overlooking the adult pool directly above the Japanese restaurant. We had a Jacuzzi on our balcony, and most nights enjoyed this "treat" with a glass of vino, and on three occasions we also took advantage of their 24hr. room service. We met some fabulous people at this resort, but four people in particular stood out. Genner is the first that comes to mind. Genner can be found at the restaurant we enjoyed and frequented the most.... the Japanese spot. He oversees this restaurant and made a point each time to make our evening extra special. He moved a table one evening, so we could dine poolside. He did this of his own accord, without our request, as he remembered that we had enjoyed this location another time we were there. His kind (and generous) spirit along with his attentiveness, as well as the amazing food were the main reasons we frequented this beautiful outdoor restaurant for dinner more than any other during our stay. Elena was another person who ensured that our room was cleaned daily to perfection. Often, we would return from breakfast to find her in our room mopping the floor, washing down the shower glass, or leaving elegant and original floral arrangements on our bed. She was extremely friendly and efficient. Her daily hard work was not lost on us. Edie and Manuel could be found each night at the main lobby bar. Edie, superbly efficient and friendly, would often serve us vino outside overlooking the main outdoor area where evening "pop-up" markets and entertainment were often on display from above. One evening in the lobby bar, a highly talented duo - singer and keyboardist (mentioned already and poorly represented in another review above) played a variety of music for guests to enjoy. Along with their excellent renditions of many "Pop Favourites", they also played salsa, cumbia and merengue. My husband and I joined some couples on the dance floor to practice "our latin moves". I even had a chance to dance with Manuel who taught me how to Cumbia! It was a fabulous evening and this duo was truly amazing and enjoyed by all who could appreciate their talent. With respect to the chair comments: we are beach people..... and individuals who do not sit much. That being said, when we required shade, we got it. Although we were up and out by 7am most mornings, we did not reserve chairs, nor did we feel the need to. There are many chairs at all pool and beach locations. This may require people to leave the comfort of the area they inhabited the day before, but there are enough spots for all to get some shade when needed. Overall, we felt the resort was very well run. The people are truly amazing and just because we only highlighted four individuals, it does not take away from the day-to-day hard work and attention provided to guests by all employees in every area of this resort; from the front gate to the cafe to the lobby bar, beach butlers, chair stackers, towel takers, pool cleaners, maintenance staff, gardeners, entertainment crew and mini-bar stockers. There are so many people who contribute to this well run place. The food at all restaurants we tried was excellent. Although I personally opted for smoked salmon on toast with tomato, onion and olives each morning, there were many "typical" breakfast options and even unique options that you would often not find at other resorts. They certainly cater to all palates and if anyone has difficulty finding something to eat or even "dreads" the dinner hour, there is something wrong with that individual and certainly not with the variety and quality of food offered to guests at this resort. Travellers who find themselves privileged enough to guest at this resort will most certainly be delighted, and will appreciate the kindness of the many hard working people employed there. We would definitely recommend this place and we look forward to returning.

Dreams, Huatulco March 2017

This is the 5th Dreams Resort that we've been a guest of in the last 5-7 years (Dominican Republic, Tulum, Puerto Villarta, Puerto Aventuras & this one). For the most part all the other Dreams have been a good vacations....this one....much less. We vacationed here from March 4-11, 2017 with my Brother & Sister-in-Law whom admittedly have overly discerning tastes. The Resort location & Beach were out of this World! The Beach was the best I've experienced! Location considered, in my mind this Resort did not deliver on what was promised in the on-line information of being a 5-Star Resort! The food was the largest issue for us. The buffet quality was far less then anticipated for a supposed 5-Star Resort! We went so far as to complain to Guest Services & asked for a meeting with the Resort GM, "Angelica". She never even had the common courtesy to meeting with 4 of her guests. Who we did meet with was "Fernando" the Concierge Manager. We found him to be condescending & did nothing but try & placate us with empty promises and zero follow up until we made a second inquire. At that time we were offered a Beach meal & a meal at an adjoining Resort which we declined due to inconvenience. We found the grounds to be nice & well maintained but the property itself to be run-down & a bit dirty in places. We also found broken, cracked & loose tiles throughout the resort that could cause safety issues for guests that have had a couple of drinks poolside during the day. The a-la-carte Restaurants were below par in most cases. We were delivered cold food at Himitsu, undercooked food at Portofino and the restaurants that were once elegant sit-down dining (Sea-Side Grill & Oceana) for breakfast & lunch are now cheap buffet style restaurants that served a very limited menu of low quality foods. We also found a HUGE lack of seafood all the while the resort is right beside the Worlds Largest body of water the Pacific!? One of the main attractions from previous Dreams was the fresh seafood that was available at other Dreams. There is one thing that I'd like to point out of the staff....the restaurant manager at Portofino/El Patio (Julio) did his best to answer our complaints with added service. In my mind El Patio was the best for food quality & taste. The other issue was the Resort stated that it's "Unlimited international and domestic top-shelf spirits", when we requested Baileys we were served a much less quality product that was clearly NOT Baileys but the serving staff insisted that it WAS Baileys. All things considered this Resort rates a 3-Star and was unfortunately our worse Dreams experience. This Resort DID NOT deliver on the advertised 5-Star experience & I recommend if you're looking for that experience, go to another Resort.

Good Vacation

We just got back from our vacation and enjoyed it very much. We felt that we got good value for our money and would go back. The room was excellent quality with good air conditioning and excellent bathroom and amenities. The resort had 7 pools and we stayed in the end of the resort overlooking the adult pool. This was a very quiet area and I would choose this area of the resort again. The food was better than I had expected with many really good restaurants and buffets. Some restaurants have a dress code which we prefer as we don't enjoy going out to a good dinner sitting next to people in beach gear and flip flops. The best restaurant was the Japanese which had everything, great ambiance, quiet with great food. This is a sit down full service restaurant and although was busy when we showed up, they took our names, we grabbed a drink and sat by the pool for 20 minutes and they came out and escorted us to our table. No reservations are required and you can eat at any restaurant as many times provided you adhere to the published dress code. Ok, so why only 4 out of five stars? Don't bother paying extra for any upgrades. We paid for dinner on the beach, very romantic with a table set up right on the sand just above the surf. Great food and champagne served right on the beach, plus it was only us... sort of. We were the only table, however just above us in the resort was a wedding going on with loudspeakers, spot lights and the associated guests and noise. Having wedding guest tell stories about the bride and groom and a DJ playing Shania Twain "Any Man of Mine" ruined our dinner. One evening we went to the Mexican Restaurant that was advertised as formal and we had a table next to us poorly dressed and one adult male was walking around in bare feet. I complained and it took staff forever to sort this out. The unfortunate part was that staff were aware before I complained as they had been looking, pointing and discussing among themselves. Entertainment was ok, one evening there was an awesome Mexican 7-piece band. They were impressive, we tipped them generously and they played a couple tunes at our table. Unfortunately they didn't stay around long. On most evenings there was a one or two piece band that played everything from Elvis to Kenny Rogers. There was an excellent duo (guy on keyboard and girl on vocals) who when they played something local, sounded really good, but tried playing way too much western contemporary and gave the place no atmosphere. Good value for our money but only worth 4 out of 5 from us.

How to make your "Dream vacation" even better
Monty S, Toronto, Canada

This was our 2nd time at this Dreams, and I thought to pass along a few tips. 1. Tips + Pesos: Bring tip money (lots of 10 Peso notes). The Mexican Peso exchange rate at the hotel is about 10% above market. Tip early - do not wait until the end of the week - be most generous at your first visits to the bars and restaurants - it can make a great vacation even better. Do NOT keep your left-over Pesos for your next trip to Mexico; spend them at duty-free at the airport, or convert them back to your home currency upon your return home. The Mexican Peso has continued to tumble over the last 2 years, and you may lose 50% of your buying power. 2. Rooms: If you are adults only, ask for a lower floor room facing the adult pool. The ground floor is best! If you are vacationing with kids, ask for a lower floor room facing the kids pool. 3. Shade: Unfortunately, people insist on waking early to place towels on chairs in the shaded areas (and these are sometimes little-used). If you want shade, you will need to engage in this "game". For the chairs under the palapas (palm umbrellas) on the beach, try NOT to get the ones at the extremes in the back row (nearest the pools/hotel). The vendors congregate, blow conches, whistle to colleagues, and engage in frequent bartering sessions at these locations - not exactly conducive to a quiet time on the beach. 4. Buffet: If you can, try to always sit in the same area of the buffet restaurant, and provide the server tips early in the vacation. You will receive friendly service, regardless, but receive extra attention. If you like fish, then head there for lunch for slamon, tuna, calamari, mussels, and occasionally, shrimp. They also serve many choices of meat, as well. 5. Other restaurants: No reservations required is a huge draw for many guests. Everyone has their tastes and preferences. I found that the Italian restaurant - Portofinos - had the most extensive bar. 6. Kids: This is a "kid-friendly" but not "kids-oriented" resort. You will not find water slides, etc.. The teenagers seemed to spend their time on their phones. 7. Week-Ends: Mexican (extended) families come to this resort for week-end getaways. Everything is more crowded, so try to use the larger venues to eat and swim on the week-ends. Go to the smaller restaurants and more popular poold during the week. As a last point, there are many repeat visitors - one couple was there for the 6th time, and many were there for the 3rd, and 4th times. The Secrets down the road a few kilometers is adults-only, and many people, including yours truly, have alternated between the two. This resort is more compact in design, but the other has its advantages.
