Food was awful this time

Gallo pinto was the worst I've ever tried. And some beef for dinner was simply impossible to eat. Bartenders Diego, Oscar, Fernanda and Javier rock. The show was kind of silly. Activities were nice. The margarita bar was great however got to be careful with bees.

This hotel is an all inclusive but does have a premium section for an extra cost. So, it is and is not an all inclusive, at the same time. Like schrodinger’s cat I️ imagine. I’m sure the premium section was renovated and more modern. But, we didn’t upgrade so I️ don’t know, in all honesty. Ask yourself the question, why did I️ come here? I️ asked myself the same question. We definitely were being a bit lazy and with the Caribbean in disarray, we booked here. I️ was originally scheduled to go to the Waldorf in Puerto Rico. The pros (+): mostly an all inclusive, with food and alcohol included, very friendly and helpful staff, nice excursions (require a lot of travel time though). The cons (-): Hotel is old and run down, wine was not that good, desolate vibe at night, small gym with broken treadmill, requires a lot of time in a vehicle to get to the sites, brown shower water at times, airport in San Jose took 2 hours to clear immigration and drive to hotel was 1.5 hours on top. The staff is great and I️ tipped them for their service. My issues are with the hotel are not the staff. The location is isolated. It’s a hike from the San Jose airport and Uber is not reliable and maybe not even legal here yet. Got one going to hotel but not coming back. We liked Tortuga Island and Jacó Beach for excursions from the hotel. I️ love red wine but had a hard time actually drinking the wine here. And, the hotel...old and run down. Our room was gross. The air conditioner had a mind of its own. The shower water would turn brown from time to time. The 1970s called and asked for its furniture back. This hotel and place wasn’t a good fit for me.

Great resort, lots of things to do

My husband and I had a wonderful time. The hotel was great we had a nice view of the ocean and pool located in building 3 nice and quiet. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We loved the all inclusive food and drinks including alcohol. The food was great, wide selection of breakfast foods and delicious fruits. Lots of activities throughout the day and entertainment at night. I highly recommend this hotel and would come back to this hotel again.

Highly recommended stay

Costa Rica is an amazing country with never ending biodiversity. And the Double Tree lived up to that experience as well. The hotel lobby sets the tone where you were greeted by friendly staff. The menus in all the restaurants were diverse and provided an option for everyone. Bars were generous with the drinks and late night snacks could be found. The hotel rooms were large, well kept and comfortable. Nightly entertainment showcased talented performers. And all staff go out of their way to make the experience memorable. Thanks Double Tree

Not what I expected

This hotel caters more to local families then travelers or couples. We found the pool area and main restaurant to be overcrowded and loud with children and large groups of families. There were a lot of flies all over the food in the main all inclusive restaurant and it was almost next to impossible to get a reservation at the one open private restaurant. All dinner reservations were booked by 9am. Although we were told the section of the hotel we were staying in was new it looked old and worn. I don't think we would come back to this particular hotel.
