A Pretty Solid Resort

This is a pretty good place to go if you are looking to vacation on the Pacific of Costa Rica, a very solid 4 stars. There are a few things to keep in mind before you pick this place though, that in my opinion keep it from giving it a 5 star review. Beach/Pool: If you are someone who loves the Beach and great ocean water, this place is not for you. There is a lot of crap that washes up at night, mostly tree branches and rocks, but I did find an old plastic doll one morning. The waves are pretty aggressive at all hours of the day and the undertow is strong. I only went in one time, only up to my hips and I could really feel the pull. Not safe. but I was never much of a Beach guy, so it never bothered me. However, what this resort lacks in Beach, it more than makes up for in the Pool. A great swim-up bar that has a walk up on the other side. each part of the pool has something different. One side has a place for water sports like volleyball, while another has a section very similar to a hot tub with jets propelling water and a waterfall to top of the aesthetic. There is also an adults only pool on the other side of the resort in case you get tired of hearing the kids scream. It may not have a swim up bar, but it is close enough to a couple bars that it should not be a problem. Food/Bar The food was pretty good, I like how each day they had a small theme going like one day would be Italian, another would be seafood etc. There are also two a la carte options that were very good, especially the Latin american one I would recommend. There is also a snack bar that opens up twice during the day, one after lunch and one after dinner in case you miss a meal. It sells the basics, Hamburgers, Pizza, Fries, Hot-dogs. You really shouldn't go hungry while here. The bars are plenty. a swim up, a small one near the snack bar, a lobby bar, a bar on the pier and the main one by the buffet area. I found myself at the lobby bar more than the others since it is much quieter and very few people go there unless they are waiting for their tour buses. The young Bartender Mario was very diligent and professional. even if his English was not very good, he knew what we wanted and really helped me out when another bartender messed up my order 3 times. I think everyone in my travel group liked Mario. Staff/Tourists: Overall the staff was very good. everyone had a smile on their face and the people at the lobby spoke English very well. The security guards even helped me out a bit when I was out at night looking for animals. Between my sub-par Spanish and their English we had a good time conversing. The staff was also very diligent in our minor complaints, like when our safe died on us and it needed a new battery. The repairman was over in less than 5 min to fix the issue and they even called us afterwards to make sure it was working properly. The last thing I want to note for English speakers is that this place has very little tourists that speak English, you are going to be surrounded by people who speak Spanish. I think in the 8 days I was there, I met about 6 English speakers. Apparently from what some of the staff told me this is a popular place for other Costa Ricans from outside of the province to visit (very similar to the Great Wolf Lodge here in Ontario). My Spanish is not good enough to have conversations, so when others tried starting up a conversation with me I really could only tell them I spoke very little Spanish and that I was only capable of small talk. If you are competent with your Spanish skills, this is the place for you! Conclusion: This is definitely a very good and well maintained resort. It has just about everything a guy like me wanted in vacation. I would go back, but first I have to work on my Spanish.

My wife and I came to CR to visit lots of locations. This was the only Hilton not by a major city plus it was an all-inclusive. Staff was very friendly and helpful, food was amazing (cafe and restaurants which are limited to certain nights), drinks were overall good depending on who made them. The pool could be super crowded at times and lots of kids! If you are looking for an adult experience, not likely the place for you. That being said we still had a great time! Beach is terrible but not to the fault of the hotel. Its volcanic sand and rocky dark water waves. The nice beaches are south and a few hours away (Jaco, Manual Antonio) or a boat ride to Tortuga Island. The worst part are the rooms need to be updated. They are dark, dingy, damp, dirty at times. Lighting is dark and does not feel clean and bright like other beach hotels I have been to. The staff cleaned them to their best ability but the room itself was the issue. We would go back for sure but only for a few days!

Went to wedding there. We stayed on Premier side. Pool was lovely and swim up bar was wonderful. The beach is a very dark sand beach, so literally was no one the whole time on it. Boogie boarding was fun on beach to the south. Buffet was ok, but after a few days it could use some change. Wedding was done by hotel and set up was gorgeous. Reception and dancing was set up right on was ok but ambiance was lovely! Side note. Be careful of company that stands on pier to sell activities packages. We went thru them and were taken on a waterfall hike that was extremely hard, much longer than we were told and could be very dangerous for those no used to extreme environments. We were large group who does a lot of pushing the envelope activities and Crossfit, and it was a struggle. I could see it going badly

We stayed at the double tree hotel for a week and we enjoyed it a lot. The room and the facility were nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I got sick during my stay and the guest service staff, especially Jessica, were extremely helpful. They arranged for me a visit to the doctor, transportation, and Jessica even called the clinic to see how I am doing. The service was way above and beyond my expectation. The food at the resort was ok but the dinners at the specialty restaurants was great. We enjoyed the resort a lot!!!!!!

A Mess. Beware of local tour guides taking you for a ride.....BE CAUTIOUS!

So disappointing. Place was overrun with young families and noisy. The food from snack bar was awful, and although the all inclusive drinks were very strong, watching the bartenders barely rinse the glasses before turning them out again made me nauseous. Breakfast on our last morning was outstanding, however. Mildew smell in darkly-lit, depressing rooms. We feel so stupid in that we got taken for a ride (literally, almost six hours round trip) with a "local guide" named Carlos who works for "Barvita tours"---lots of promises after we shelled out $230 US total as we drove far away to Manual Antonio park where we had a mediocre tour and lunch. This guy then had the balls to ask not once, not twice, but THREE times for us to give up our rental car keys while we were on the tour.....sorry, buddy, we're not THAT stupid, we're already stuck with you in our car which was bad enough. Then after assuring us initially we'd spend nothing more than the $230, all of a sudden, there's charges for tolls, parking, and the tour guide himself. It REALLY, REALLY turned us off from Costa Rica and how they apparently do not respect or care about the tourists. We couldn't wait to get the hell out of there.
