Okay place to stay
MARIAN W.

Just okay. Luckily I planned excursions on my own and wasn't stuck here the entire time otherwise I would have been bored! The pros were the restaurants and food, the cons were the bogus "resort credits" everything has a certain day and time and is hard to work with scheduling, the rooms are misleading "ocean front" vs "ocean view", be sure to get a room the 3rd floor or above otherwise you have a perfect view of people tanning and wedding receptions, we had to pay an upgrade fee to get a decent room with a balcony. Probably wouldn't stay again but it was okay for our first trip to Cozumel.

We had no electricity from Thursday June 14 at 4:00pm to Friday June 15 at 10 pm. We lost a day of our vacation. Would like to get a free day next year or at least a percentage off our stay. 30 hours with no AC, TV or lights. The transformer blew. Had to ferry one over from Playa. No Other hotels or shops were effected.

Everything (food, drinks, service, facilities, view, ocean) was perfect except that we requested two double beds and received a king instead. One guest had to sleep on a small cot for 5 nights.

The restaurant needs better entertainment and more restaurants. For being there 7 nights, we struggled on finding food that was good enough to go eat again for dinner. Oriental restaurant was not good at all for sushi. Only 1 breakfast place and it was the same old thing. If I go back there, I wouldn't stay 7 nights due to lack of places to eat.

A great vacation. Staff were attentive and service was outstanding. Every time we turned around someone was there asking if we needed anything. All inclusive is the way to go. The food is very good with plenty of variety. Snorkeling of the back of the hotel, though unexpected, was good. Expensive, but worth it. Caveat: Avoid rooms 1-10 on the 3rd floor as they are across from a very noisy mechanical room. A low frequency rumble. We didnt mind so much, but some would find it pretty annoying.

We loved every minute at the Palace. Of course they have other locations over on the mainland that can be used interchangeably as well but we preferred to stay in Cozumel. The staff are delightful, helpful and looking for ways to serve you. They don't just get what you ask for - they are thinking ahead. The facilities were always clean, the food delicious and the help came in huge servings. There is no beach at this hotel but you can get beach easily over on the mainland or in places nearby. You can snorkel right outside the hotel and its easy with equipment provided if necessary. All the rooms are beautiful, have a balcony and look out at the water. We recommend being on at least the 3rd floor to better enjoy the view. Watching the cruise ships go by and seeing the other watercraft was mesmerizing. Nights were delightful looking at all the lights. We also enjoyed the $1500 extra credit for special things. We used it for massages, special trips and other fun things. We hope to go back soon. We weren't just satisfied - we were highly impressed.

Same Experience as previous review - ROOM not available and travel agent blamed
Liz L, Billings, Montana
Thu Jul 19 15:02:07 EDT 2018
I was about to write my review and saw a previous review and was shocked to see they had the EXACT poor experience that we did! We reserved two double beds since we were traveling with two teenagers. When we checked in, they only had a King room. They never apologized, blamed our travel agent and said that "some families prefer a king and roll-aways for their kids." For two big teenagers? That's hard to believe. THEN, exactly like in the other review (March 2018) I asked to see the reservation and take a picture of it to share with my travel agent and they vehemently refused. I can't believe they continue to do the same thing to guests!!! No apology, no nothing. You would think they would be customer service oriented and offer us SOMETHING for our troubles. We eventually were moved to a room with two beds, but wasted a half-day of our already short vacation. One other incident was we were told the wrong hours for the San Gervasio ruins. We rented a scooter and rode all the way out there to find it closing an hour earlier than we were told. When I returned, I told the staff in charge of excursions, mostly to let them know and they argued with me and would not admit fault. I wasn't even trying to blame them, just let them know. Again, NO apology. Maybe staff have been taught never to apologize to a guest? Besides those two incidents, the food was GREAT and for the most part the rest of the staff (minus the front desk and the excursions folks around the corner) was great. We were able to use our resort credit for diving, but it still cost us an additional $500 for 4 days of diving, plus tips. But still better than having to pay the full amount, which would have been $1900. There was an incident where the dolphin pool was emptied from the property next door and made the entire swimming area cloudy so you couldn't see a foot in front of you. That wasn't the Palace's fault, but something to be aware of. They probably empty the dolphin pool once per week. Not positive we would stay here again because of the way we were treated by the front desk staff.

A lot of awesome with a little room for improvement

We are currently staying at Cozumel Palace. Overall, this is an excellent resort in a great scuba diving location. There are a few things that could be improved: The Pros: First, the dive shop staff is excellent. I took an advanced certification course with Andrea. She was, BY FAR, the best instructor or guide I have ever had. I have been diving since 1986 and have had many, many instructors and guides. There is no comparison! She spent nearly every moment of our time together providing instruction, tips, and evaluating my progress as well as sharing dive experiences. Andrea is a gem that this resort property should celebrate. She was kind, clever, knowledgeable, effective, and.....oh yea....a GREAT instructor. The food is also excellent. Not Manhattan gourmet....but excellent none the less. The breakfast and lunch buffets have a large variety of good fare, and the Italian, Mexican, and Japanese restaurants are very good. Overall....about as good as you will find here in Cozumel. The staff is great. Very attentive and pleasant. Every staff member greets you with a smile and a hearty “hola” while not being obtrusive. Well trained, very professional. The rooms are very nice, clean and comfortable. The Cons: The time share pitch. Yes, I know, if you travel you have been subjected to this, or heeded the warnings to stay away. Here....they promised (and delivered) $300 in actual money for use anywhere in the resort. (There are of course limitations on the $1500 resort credit offered just for staying at the hotel) so we suffered through the time share pitch even though we knew better. It was relatively pleasant, but there was a false promise of a room upgrade which never materialized......hmmm. The queen beds are two small for two, unless you are really, really, in love. The lobby furniture is dated and visibly worn. This sets up a bad first impression. The pool area is loud....so if that’s not your thing, ask for a room on the higher floors. Overall, this is a great resort, and I think most everyone would be pleased!

Best family vacation so far!

Service is absolutely one of the best features of the stay! EVERYONE goes above and beyond to make your stay fabulous! Our room had a beautiful view! The pool was a lot of fun and they have activity coordinators that are really entertaining. You can jump off the pier and snorkel. We brought our own gear minus the fins but if you don't have gear, they have gear you can use for free. The Stingray and Chankanaab trip were included with our package. At Chankanaab, the kids swam with dolphins (resort credit) and did the interaction with sea lions ($59 each). The pricing for the adventures were on point BUT get ready b/c if you want pictures, it's going to hurt a little. (pictures from both on one CD $350). Have to have those pictures.....documenting memories!! The guys went scuba diving. ($45 each) We did the resort scuba class which was really fun! Our 10 year old went as well and did amazingly well! We watched a video, practiced in the pool and then they took us out right in front of the hotel. I believe it was roughly 20 feet. I saw a few things but honestly, I was so focused on the process that I really didn't get to enjoy the dive. I still can't believe I did it! I am horribly claustrophobic. I am looking forward to going again. (resort scuba was resort credit, pictures were $93). We rented scooters across from the hotel for $35 each. This price included insurance which I've heard you don't want to be without. We signed up for the 90 minute presentation and they gave us a Jeep for two days to see the rest of the island. (paid $50 per day for the insurance) We walked downtown and felt completely safe contrary to stories we had heard. Locals were super kind and we took home some t-shirts, novelty items, vanilla etc. This was our second visit to Cozumel Palace and we plan to return. Next trip, we plan to visit El Cielo. If I had one tip to give the hotel it would be to have a designated smoking area away from guests. Unfortunately, there were people smoking at the pool and it kind of stinks when you are in the chairs next to them. They were also smoking at the bar outside that was right next to the outdoor restaurant.

Some small tweaks and it could be GREAT!

I really would like to give this hotel a 5 star review, but a few things negatively impacted our vacation. There was a lot of good elements. Hotel is beautiful. Great location, great view, resort was spotless and the food was delicious. The employees were wonderful and worked hard! We had a loft room, which was great for our family of 4 which included 2 teenagers. They had their own space, but we were all together. I personally loved all the CHI products. One major negative was the noise. Outside of the guest rooms (as inside as well) the flooring is tile. I am sure to keep it clean. However, it creates noise problems. You can hear everyone talking while walking to their guest rooms. This was annoying! They should put up signs or when bellman takes your luggage to your room have him point out that we will silent for a couple minutes until we get to your room since these are guest rooms. The noise was early in the morning with kids running to breakfast and adults late at night unaware of how loud they are talking/singing. Unfortunately, we hit terrible weather when we were there. No fault of the hotel, but there was little or no (I would say none) indoor entertainment. They have a rainy day schedule, but nothing was happening to keep us busy. All the guest just sat around and stared at each other. There was a lack of communication which a prolonged power outage as well. We paid a lot of money and I don't feel we got the value out of this vacation.

As members of Palace since 2006, we have always enjoyed staying in the Riveria Maya. This year we added a few days at Cozumel Palace, since our kids were old enough to try diving. This resort is a lot smaller than other Palace Resorts, but we loved the smaller setting, and that the resort is right on the Caribbean Sea and all the rooms have views of the Caribbean. The water is so beautiful and we loved jumping off the pier and swimming, and snorkeling in the sea. Lots to see right off the pier! Also, the resort provides paddle boards and snorkle equipment. We did the Discovery Dive and our instructor Andrea was fabulous. So patient and experienced. We enjoyed our diving experience with her. The nice thing about this resort is that there is a boat pier right at the resort so you don’t even have to leave the resort to catch a dive boat. Pretty awesome! The downtown area is also pretty close- within walking distance, so great if you want to go out and catch a little island vibe. Also, love the weather on the island, seems a little cooler than the mainland. We also got to catch a tropical thunderstorm. The lighting is pretty intense, but beautiful! We wanted to mention Darwin, one of the waiters at the pool. He was always so attentive to our needs. Love his smile- always very welcoming! We only spent a few days there but really enjoyed the island. The only improvement would be a little weatherproofing around the doors. We had some neighbors with small kids that allowed their kids to run up and down the marble floors, so it can be a bit noisy. Easy to solve with weatherproofing doors to minimize sound and for parents to be more responsible in parenting, and not allow their kids to run wild in the halls. We all enjoyed our time there and will return for more diving Adventures! Thanks Palace for a new and great experience!
