Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach

The hotel is in a great location, the pool area was small but the beach directly in front of the hotel offered another option. The rooms felt small for two people but were fine. Staff were always pleasant and helpful when ask, the house cleaning team very friendly.

The King Kamehameha hotel was excellent in every way from check-in to check-out. The staff was always friendly and genuinely cared that we were taken care of. The hotel restaurant had a huge buffet breakfast every morning and Prime Rib/Seafood buffet on Friday and Saturday nights. The Lu'au on site was a lot of fun, very interactive, and well worth seeing. It is a great hotel for couples as well as families.

elevators in need of work

elevators in the west tower closed so quickly that we and many others were struck by closing doors. this was an ongoing problem. our room was lovely, but as a handicapped accessible room (which we did not need) was right at the elevator, where the constant chiming and the noise from those waiting was distracting. the view of the employee entrance from our balcony was not inspiring. we were told there was no parking charge at this hotel, but we were charged a daily parking rate.

Hotel Construction ISsue

It would have been a good idea to inform the hotel guests of the construction going on at the hotel. IT is suppose to be a relating vacatin and early morning construction can be annoying. I would have at least liked to know in advance if that situation exists. Overall the hotel was very nice and convienant location.

The best thing about this hotel is it's location. It is right at the start of Alii Drive. Many sights can be seen from walking the area. There is a small safe beach on the hotel side of the pier and a good swimming beach from the south side of the pier.

Great location, close to shops, restaurants, beaches! Wonderful staff! Clean rooms and a good size too! We stayed 5 days and we didn’t see any single cockroach as what few people said in their review! The dinner seafood buffet was absolutely delicious with reasonable price! Abundant parking space for your rent a car! The only thing that I want to see is a bigger pool, that’s why I only gave 4 stars. But otherwise, we will definitely come back! We really enjoyed our stay here! Thank you! And the best thing also before I forget,,, don’t miss the LUAU here! It’s the best! Kalua pig and lots more...

Great beds, nice staff, good location, but I expect more from Marriott

I stayed two nights with family as part of a small tour group. We had two rooms to our family. When we checked in at 4:30 pm, we were given keys to our two rooms. But one of them was not cleaned, with dirty towels, wine glasses, and unmade beds. So we had to all use one room until after dinner. The staff was apologetic and very nice. Although our group had pre-booked and sent in our needs, most families were not placed together as requested. So our 2 rooms, for example, were 4 doors apart. This was not the case in the other 2 hotels we had stayed on the trip, which accommodated our arrangements. The rooms were okay. Somewhat dated with very small bathrooms. The entry/closet/bathroom door area is very cramped. The air conditioning worked very well. Of course, the Marriott beds are awesome! The balcony is not private, as you are fully exposed to the balcony next to you, which is odd. The balcony door is a single pane, so we found it noisy all night, particularly as we were in the East tower and on the city side. The balcony entrance is in the centre of the room. Instead of curtains, there is a louvred panel that slides across the balcony windows and doors. So it never got pitch dark, and if you're the first person you you can't just peek outside or go on the balcony without sliding everything all the way own and waking up others in the room. When our room was made up, they did not replenish the shampoo and conditioner. We enjoyed the hotel's big breakfast buffet and Saturday-night seafood buffet! Bar service was slow that night, though, with only one server for a large room with about 40-50 people in it. The hotel is in a great location on the pier and adjacent to Kailua downtown and to a modern big-box shopping centre. It's about 15 minutes from the Kona airport. The ABC Store inside the hotel is very convenient. Also inside the hotel is a 100% Kona Coffee shop and cafe, a beach clothing shop, a gallery with some local art and jewellery, as well as storefronts for a submarine ride (we loved it) and for parasailing excursions. Very convenient! There is a small private white-sand beach and cabanas on grass outside the hotel restaurant. The infinity pool is in the bar area but kids can go in it. We really liked the pool but it's very dark at night, easy to stub a toe or bump into someone. The hotel has two towers, east and west. East is on the city side of the property, with views of the mountain and downtown on the East, and of the hotel courtyard on the West. The West tower is more private, with views of the courtyard on the East side and I think views of gardens and possible the high end neighboring subdivision on the West side. Both towers also have rooms on the ocean side. See attached photo taken from the ocean. It shows the two towers and the pier. The rooms include tv, iron and board, full size hair dryer, mini fridge, coffee (no tea) and coffee maker. They gave us a box of macadamia-nut chocolate when we checked out, perhaps because of the problem we had at check-in. Overall it's a great location and decent hotel, I just expect more, and better service, from a Marriott.

Beach chairs please!

Great location! Loved the ABC store on site and the shaved ice shop was awesome. The rooms need some minor repairs. My biggest complaint is that there are not enough chairs in the pool area and NO chairs or shade at the beach. Also the grassy area behind the sand (as seen in the photos) is always roped off so you can’t sit on that either. We were traveling with an infant so no shade was a huge problem for us. We also needed a freezer for breastmilk but were told that there weren’t any on site (just something to consider if traveling with a baby).

Cockroaches!

We spent one night there before our flight to California. The staff was friendly and helpful. At first we were excited about the ocean view from our room but at 9:00 and the evening entertainment was still going, we were not too pleased. We had two cockroaches in our room . One was in our bed and one in the bathroom. Yuck! We have come to Hawaii once a year for more than ten years and this is the first time we saw cockroaches. I realize this is the tropics and perfect for bugs but other hotels don’t have that problem . Needless to say, we won’t be back to this hotel.
