Couples Swept Away - Negril, Jamaica
PATTI K.
Apr 15 2018
This is not the first time we have been to Couples Swept Away, and it won't be the last. The atmosphere is always relaxing, with plenty of fun activities, if you choose. The food is wonderful, and the rooms, although starting to be a little dated, are always clean and well maintained. Who spends much time in the room, anyhow, when you are on Seven Mile Beach in Negril? Water sports personnel were helpful if you chose to do some of those activities. All the employees were very friendly. We loved every minute of our stay at Couples Swept Away!

The property and beach were the largest and nicest of all the properties We saw in Negril. The food exceeded our expectations as compared with other all inclusive resorts. The staff was warm and welcoming from the concierge to the grounds keeper. We highly recommend this resort!

Grounds well maintained, room was beautiful. Staff was not friendly or personal. We did not feel welcome, were not told anything about the facility and wait staff at the Palms were inattentive. We constantly had to refresh our own water and coffee.

We really enjoyed our time at Couples Swept Away. The ocean was incredibly clear and beautiful. The resort is outdated and not much to do after 6 pm but we enjoyed our stay. Staff was very friendly.

We've been to many nicer resorts for a lot less money. Seemed run down for the rating. Needed much maintenance. Pool and pool bar was disappointing. Main pool was very small.

My husband and I traveled to Jamaica for a 5 night mini-moon after our wedding in Aruba. We spent 3 of those nights at Couples Swept Away. The good: The airport lounge on the arrivals side is wonderful! Having a beer before getting onto the shuttle was very welcomed. The shuttle is about an hour and 1/2 and the drivers are all very knowledgeable and nice. Having the shuttle is a major bonus. The food was all very good (jerk chicken, fish tacos, everything we ate at Lemongrass!) but I could see if you were here for an extended time how there might not be an extended selection and therefore the food would get old quick. The alcohol really is all top shelf, we spent the majority of our time there drinking patron margaritas. Unfortunately the alcohol you get in room is all well liquor and house wines. You can upgrade for a fee The beach is nice and big, never an issue getting a chair but the palapas are a hot commodity and are gone before 7am! There is a lot of shade provided by the trees though. I also really like that there are floaties on each chair that provide cushion and something to lay on in the water. The property and rooms are very clean. Trip to Rick's was so much fun!! We sprung for the private ride rather than the shuttle for an extra $10 and that was the way to go! We were able to come and go as we pleased. The not so good: The service is hit or miss, some people are amazing and others are downright horrible. When we got to the hotel to check in, the woman who "greeted" us at reception was so rude and barely gave us any information aside from your room isn't ready but I've alerted housekeeping. When we asked when the room would be ready she told us she didn't know and that we could call from any phone to check in. So we changed into our swimsuits and headed to the beach. We checked back in at 3pm (check in time) and were told the exact same thing, room isn't ready and I don't know when it will be. When we again pressed her to call housekeeping, our room was miraculously ready! My husband is from Jamaica but has lived here in the states for ~20 years and therefore doesn't have an accent, I believe this led to him getting sub par service. One bartender wouldn't hand him his drink and instead would put it down in font of him (while handing drinks to all other patrons). This same bartender whistled at him to hand him his empty glass instead of politely asking for it. While this hotel claims to be a 4 star luxury property, I would not say that by looking at the rooms. They are very outdated and are badly in need of renovations. We stayed in a beachfront verandah suite and should've realized that if you need to pay extra for a TV, that was a red flag. The beds are super soft. My husband has a bad back and actually had to sleep on the tile floor the last night we were there and a few nights after we left. Overall we had a great time because it was our mini-moon but I wouldn't have been happy if this was our actual honeymoon. I would not recommend this resort for someone looking for a luxury trip.

Relaxing trip!

We spent 6 nights at Swept Away June 29 to July 5. Having read a lot of reviews prior to arriving, our time there was exactly as expected. The beach was stunning and the water absolutely perfect. The service was overall excellent with a few hiccups here and there, but nothing too bothersome. The people working there are generally lovely to speak to and seem to really care. The food was mostly good - not great but good- and we never went hungry! Drinks at the beach bars were very good and so were the martinis. Our oceanview verandah was in a great location and we loved walking easily to the beach from the patio. The room could definitely use an update and paint job. Housekeeping was excellent though. The entertainment was wonderful at night- We loved sitting in the Palms restaurant watching the show while finishing dinner! The piano bar was fun as well. I love to swim in pools too but not these - they seemed very dirty with stuff floating in the water. It didn't really matter as we were at the beach every day and that is clearly the draw for this resort. Also the chair hogs were out in force - beach huts were gone by 6:30 am. I think people took them the night before- I wish the resort would patrol this better. Also a lot of people smoke cigarettes and cigars on the beach, so if you don't want to deal with that this might not be the place for you. We found ourselves having to move a few times. The good news is the beach is huge so moving away from the smoke was easy. All in all a very chill and relaxing vacation; we would definitely return in the same room category if the price was right. Big shout out to Mitch and the team at TripGuy for making our travel arrangements for us!

Our first Jamaica vacation

This was our first time to Jamaica and second all inclusive resort. I try to throughly research and plan our vacations (that is part of the vacation excitement), so that I have a good feel for what to expect. The Great: We are beach people so finding a great beach is always my #1 priority and 7 mile beach at CSA did not disappoint. We loved floating for hours on the calm, clear water. Another great part of CSA was the included water sports (and the water sports staff)- we tried just about everything they offered and had a blast. We are not big foodies, and food is always subjective, but we thought all of our meals here were great especially Lemongrass and Feathers. The OK: We booked a Greathouse Verandah room. I knew that many say this has a more hotel feel, but we were fine with that. My reasoning for picking this category was mostly because I hoped for a beach view without having to pay the extra cost for a beachfront room. I also wanted glass windows, a TV and no cats on my balcony. It’s a gamble what room you will be assigned. I was hoping for room 5209 for the great view, but we received 5201. The view was still good and there was very little noise. Although I knew coming in that the rooms were “rustic”, I was still a little surprised- they are very basic and some things could definitely stand to be updated/upgraded. We loved the overall vibe of Jamaica and the people, but we felt the service at the resort was good not great. There was never bad service, but at times no matter how nice, polite or talkative we tried to be some just seemed to not want to be there. The evening entertainment was good some evenings, and some evenings there didn’t seem to be anything going on. We enjoyed the bonfire, beach party night (although it wasn’t raining and was still held inside) and the steel drum band - the only downfall was lack of seating sometimes. We were excited for the included snorkeling trips, but unfortunately the reef isn’t that great. Tips: The lighting in the bathroom is horrible - take your own lighted make up mirror. Do take mosquito repellent as well as a repellent for sand fleas. I brought skin so soft to use for sand fleas but forgot to put it on after an afternoon rain and had several bites. Make your reservations for Lemongrass, Feathers and the catamaran the day you arrive - you don’t want to miss any of them. If possible book one day off the resort to see the area. We visited YS Falls, Pelican Bar and Ivan’s restaurant and loved them all. Take some small bills to the beach to tip the singers. The beach vendors can be annoying if you let them, but try to have an open mind that this is how they make a living. We politely said no thank you and after a couple days was asked very little. Overall we had a great vacation. We loved the casual, relaxed atmosphere of CSA and definitely hope to return one day soon.

Wonderful Jamaican Vacation

My wife and I just returned from Couples Swept Away in Negril, Jamaica. We both loved the country and the resort. Everything from the airport lounge to the accommodations to the return shuttle back was excellent. The people at the resort were professional and kind. It was a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Ocean Verandah Suite and enjoyed it. We were right next to one of the main pools and restaurants. The beach was only 25 yards away, and we did have a slight view of the ocean from our back porch. The room was not fancy, but we liked it. It came with stocked with drinks, included a safe, and had a decent size closet. The walk in shower was wonderful. The beach is BEAUTIFUL. The water is turquoise and the beach goes on for quite a ways. There are vendors, but they were polite and not pushy, and they will leave you alone with a quick no thank you or a wave. We enjoyed the glass bottom boat tour and went on the catamaran cruise. However, we enjoyed mostly hanging out on the beach and in the pool. The restaurants were all excellent. We enjoyed all of our meals, and the staff was attentive, especially at Feathers. The buffet breakfast is outstanding. We love the piano bar! We went twice and had a spectacular time. I miss it already. I met a blind man named William, from Jamaica, on the beach. He is a kind and gentle man who has a very tough life but does things with a smile. If you see him please do not be afraid to go up to him. He speaks English, and he is very intelligent. He receives no help from the government, and so he relies on the goodness of the tourists. Meeting William was definitely a highlight of the trip for me. I hope he can get the new walking pole that he needs to get around. All in all, my wife and I loved Couples Swept Away!! We are both school teachers on a budget, but we found this resort affordable and special. We are definitely looking to go back to Couples Swept Away!!

Awesome Vacation!

This was our first trip to Jamaica & CSA. We loved it! The beach and water is just beautiful! Spent the whole week relaxing under coconut trees and in the clear beautiful warm blue sea. Water activities at the resort are plentiful. The catamaran cruise was so much fun! Food was very good. Loved Feathers! The staff were very kind and welcoming. Our driver back to the airport was incredible. He shared with us so much information about this country. Loved the Jamaican vibe. No problems here. Just situations! Would definitely recommend this resort if visiting Jamaica.
