Best Honeymoon Resort!

We loved our honeymoon at Couples San Souci in Ocho Rios, Jamaica! The staff were beyond friendly and helpful and the resort was BEAUTIFUL! We are already planning to return in the next couple years!!

Wonderful Experience at Couples San Souci!
Oct 31 2018
We had a wonderful experience at Couples San Souci! I liked that the accommodations used to be apartments, so it's more of a suite than just one room with a bed - it was nice to be able to get up and move around without disturbing my husband, who sleeps much later than I do. The grounds are so beautiful, and we enjoyed exploring all the paths and little nooks. This resort is probably better for more fit people, since there are a TON of stairs, and it was quite a hike from our room at one end of the resort to the beach and restaurants on the other end. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The food and the drinks were top notch. We appreciated the variety and the quality. I enjoyed complimentary activities including yoga, aquacise, snorkeling, kayaking, boat ride, and trip to Dunn's River Falls. My only complaint is that the bed and pillows were a bit hard.

Fantastic Resort, Incredible Resort
Jun 26 2017
The resort is incredible. It is not overly large, and is built on several levels of on the hill beside the beach, so it feels rather small and private. The staff are very personable and friendly. They remember you (and your drinks). We loved this resort compared to much larger ones where you are just a number. This resort also has the highest percentage of repeat guests compared to the other Couples. It was around 48% of guests were repeat guests while we were there. That's incredible! We certainly hope to be a repeat guest. The only thing to consider is that it is a 2hr van ride from the airport (which has a Couple lounge area and free beer). They also ask you to tip the driver and the person loading your bags on the van. Otherwise everything else is included and you are NOT to tip the staff at the resort. No tipping pressure was very nice. The meals were fantastic, the best we've had. The water sports activities are all included. We snorkeled twice, kayaked, paddle boarded, and did the glass bottom boat. The only downside we really experienced is that the water sports staff that actually take you out (they are in blue water shirts) are not quite as friendly as the rest of the staff. They frequently are the only ones there to answer questions or help you reserve your spot, and they are vague with their responses, or act as if you are bothering them at times. Other times, there was a separate girl working the sports reservations booth which was helpful. But there were several times we almost missed our activity because they were vague and told us to wait, only to see another guy walk over to the boat without anyone saying anything to us and running to it before he left. They need a "waiting area" or better directions for what people should do that have never done the activities before.

The size of the resort was perfect for our honeymoon. Not too big. Not too small. The hotel staff was accommodating and friendly. The food was a fair, not great, not too awful. Options for included water sports and activities were a great way to expand our honeymoon experience. I highly recommend a couples massage in the Hide Away hut on the cliff over the ocean, an experience I will never forget.

very old hotel infrastructure in a beautiful site and with amazing local people
Wed Mar 13 21:50:44 EDT 2019
We are visiting the couples resort for the fifth and probably last time. We just arrived last Friday after a long trip. We had booked a 1 bedroom ocean suite. Knowing the hotel from before, we had requested at the reservation not to have a room on the first floor because of the heavy traffic next to these rooms. Our room was on the first floor, next to the outside lights. We asked to change the room and they offered us another one in another building but the bedroom and the bathroom were out of age. So we declined it and asked for an other room on Saturday ( with a proper bathroom and bedroom) since Saturdays are a big turn over in the hotel. They accepted our request. Unfortunately, the new room was not better: Ocean view is very limited between the trees. Bathroom is very old, the bathtub (yes this is still existed in 5 stars hotel) is extremely old and has some issue with water evacuation ( bathtub is clogged nothing has been done although we told the reception about it several times). There is no ventilation in the bathroom. As a result, the air is always humid, the towels wet and there is a bad smell of sewage. The bed is uncomfortable : each time my husband is moving a toe, I am jumping to the ceiling. When we requested to meet with the general manager of the hotel Mr Pierre Battaglia, he declined it. As a compensation, they gave us a fruit plate and a bottle of sparkling wine. We were also very disappointed when we discovered that our favorite hot tub next to the mineral pool was not working. When we visited this hotel in April 2018, they were cutting a tree next to the spa and this tree fell on the spa and damaged it. On top, the air conditioning was not working properly and had to be repaired twice in 3 days for several hours. The people who are working at the hotel are relaxed, pleasant, smiling, helpful, and friendly. The food is very good, especially at the Casanova restaurant. The site is very pretty. It is really a shame that the rooms are not at the level of even a 3 stars hotel.

Just had a 10 day break at CSS and loved it. The grounds are gorgeous, with lots of nooks and crannies so you're forever discovering something new. The staff are superb and can't do enough for you. There are plenty of activities to get involved in if you wish. The food at all 3 restaurants is lovely, although you need to book early (poss in advance) to secure your preferred dinner time. The lunchtime service at the beachfront grill could be a little slow but you're on Jamaica time here, just sit back and enjoy the view! The entertainment is better than experienced at other hotels. There are lots of hills/steps so I wouldn't recommend for those with mobility issues although I think a shuttle service is available. Our beachfront suite in B block was stunning and really spacious, with a huge comfy bed, great shower and decent hairdryer. However, we did see suites in G block inc' the penthouse and they looked really tired. You place your mini bar order daily and the service was great. Special mention goes to Rose (pool bar - great cocktails), Romain (entertainment - always cheerful, engaging with guests) and Carol (singing/dancing pancake/waffle/omelette chef). All in all, a fantastic holiday, we really couldn't fault anything.

We are halfway through our first trip and having a wonderful time at Couples San Souci. The staff members have been so friendly and attentive, no matter where we are on the property. The Front Desk and Guest Services members are professional and helpful. The food is outstanding - we have tried all three restaurants for dinner and have been impressed by both the quality and the service. We had a lovely meal at Casanova for our anniversary. The Palazzina restaurant has a beautiful buffet for breakfast and lunch, with a tremendous number of dishes at both, as well as a separate dinner menu. There are also other options, including Bella Vista for casual fare right on the beach and Room Service. There are many activities, including golf, tennis and yoga, as well as beautiful beaches and several pools. The entertainment has been outstanding and we've also enjoyed the various bars, including both the Balloon and Martini bars. I enjoy walking the property, but there is also a shuttle available if you prefer a lift. Although this is our first trip here, it won't be our last!

Some Nice Parts, Some Awful Parts Too
Sat Mar 09 19:07:48 EST 2019
GROUNDS: there is no question that the resort itself is gorgeous and the location is beautiful and serene. The grounds are well manicured and have lots of character. Keep in mind that the resort is built on a cliffside and that there are quite a number of stairs. There is a beach dedicated for sunsets, and the coastline is perfect. The unique layout offers something for everyone whether you want quiet and relaxation, loud drinking at the pool bar, or fun and activities. A+ ROOM: we had a room in the G block which was surprisingly big. The room is stocked with a minibar and we were able to request champagne and beer without extra charge. Our porch was beautiful and one of my favorite hangouts of the whole trip. The bed was firm but comfortable. AC was a bit rough the first two nights where we slept warm, but we were able to get the room cool by running the AC all day. The bathroom though... the shower was pretty sketchy. It hasn't been upgraded in many, many years and is not meant for two. I've read other reviews that said this is a "flipflops on" shower and I would agree. The water pressure was pretty bad to boot. The resort is also right next to other properities. There was a late wedding blaring music all night right outside our room!! Overall a nice room, but the weak AC, gross shower, and noise means this doesn't even meet basic living quality. F FOOD: while Sans Souci has three restaurants we found the food to be just okay. The food is better than chain restaurants but will disappoint you if you are expectations are even moderate. There are lots of options and the range is from mediocre to excellent with an average of acceptable. Most of the food is served buffet style and the restaurants serve a small rotating menu. The one exception to the food quality was the Starlight Gala, one of two special food buffets. All of the food during this was excellent. Desserts and the smoothie bar were also very good. These don't make up for the poor core meals though. C DRINK: my wife and I drink well at home, and the drinks here didn't impress. Most drinks are all sugar and use bottom shelf liquors. Some specialty drinks do use standard liquors like Cherry Heering and Galliano. The drink menu is vast and impressive at something like 48 cocktails not including staples like Gin and Tonics. Bartenders do not measure ingredients and many juices seem to be made far in advance. Overall the cocktails are ok and good enough for most folks. The wine is very budget and all Frontera brand which runs ~5$ US a bottle. It was near undrinkable. There are premium bottles with a good selection for an extra charge but you cannot order premium wines by the glass. So overall not the best cocktails and very poor wine. D ENTERTAINMENT: we only stayed four nights so we didn't see everything there was to offer. The Bonfire and Ballads night featured a musician and a big fire and it was very nice. The Starlight Gala had a large buffet which was stunning, but it was followed by a singer and band that nobody seemed very interested in. Other nights had a band play. I'm a musician myself and was very impressed by the band's skill and quality. The one complaint I have is that we could hear the band from our room well past 11PM!! Totally unacceptable!! C ACTIVITIES: we paddleboarded, took a ride in the glass bottom boat, hiked Dunn's river, took a yoga class, played trivia, and went to the spa. There is a ton to do here and it was all great. While I originally wanted to come to an all-inclusive to relax and eat/drink well, the activities were an unexpected highlight. There is no shortage of activities you can show up to. A+ LOCATION: Sans Souci is pretty much a "stay on the resort" vacation but there is plenty to do nearby with a short shuttle. Nothing walkable but lots and lots of excursions. A SERVICE: on our first few days here it took me a bit to get over the cultural differences. Many Jamaicans are less bubbly than folks in America but they are still courteous and do a good job. Many staff members remembered our names and made us feel at home. The bartenders were all excellent and responsive. The dinner teams were a little short staffed but did a fine job considering. A FINAL THOUGHTS: overall my wife and I had a good time, but we didn't really get the vacation we were expecting. We wanted a quiet trip with great food and drink and lots of reading and relaxing. Instead the food and drink were subpar and the room and noise were unacceptable. The activities however were great and we found it easy to meet other couples. In spite of all of the things aiming to ruin our stay, the resort and view are spectacular and most afternoons were incredibly serene. The food, drink, room, and noise were all really big issues, and thus I don't recommend Couples Sans Souci

This was our first time to this Couples resort. The weather was beautiful, the water warm, the hospitality was wonderful! The food delicious and room service was fast and a treat! The ocean water is clear however not deep. The water was up to my knees in most areas. But I enjoyed floating on a raft and take a good sunscreen as my SPF 30 was not enough for my Irish skin. The pool was refreshing but it was hotter there than at the ocean with a breeze.
