We stayed at Couples for five nights, which was way too short. Every staff member we encountered was friendly & helpful. We had a lot of fun with them. The food was awesome. We went to the buffet every day for lunch and ate until we had to be rolled out of the place. Beautiful rooms & grounds. We will definitely go again.

One of the smaller resorts on the island but very intimate. Staff get to know you by name and treat you like gold. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Housekeeping was impeccable. Would highly recommend it

We recently stayed for 6 nights. It was by far the most relaxing stay we have had in a long time - possibly ever. We enjoy good food and SN has very good food and equally good service. Otaheite is the one restaurant you need a reservation for but we had no issues getting a couple nights there. The atmosphere, service and food is actually great. We loved the side by side seating against the wall which was super comfortable. Very good menu. Servers work in pairs and give excellent service. We also really liked Lychee asian restaurant which had a nice menu and equally great service. We don't love buffets but the Cassava Terrace was not a bad option and the Beach Grill/Heliconia had a nice beach feel to it being open air. We enjoyed our room n bldg. 5 near the water sports and it had a view to the ocean. The housekeeping staff was one of the best we have ever experienced. They were timely, and you would never know anyone was walking around our room with sand on their feet after they cleaned. They straightened up perfectly, left nice towel displays on our bed EVERY day, and changed out towels twice daily. How great is that? Turn down service was very nice also. Entertainment was good and we enjoyed the piano bar for it's local talent each night. There are nice classes by the Terrace each day if you are looking for a simple demo. The dive staff is just great. Taffy, Richard and Sugar are very good and I highly recommend Richard or Sugar if you want to become scuba certified. They are very skilled and professional yet will make your learning fun. I dove with Taffy most of the week and he was very personable and fun to dive with. Overall the resort is very enjoyable. The staff is the friendliest. The food is very good and the portions are more reasonable than most all inclusives. The rooms are older but the beds are very comfortable, the AC is great, and the room is VERY clean. The beach is great and walkable with tress to sit beneath. Every lounge chair has a floatable mat you can take in the water - genius. We will very likely go back because it's just a comfortable resort to visit. PS: We didn't do it but you can get a small plane over to Negril via the Couples airport lounge. Reasonable ( $240 couple ) for 15-20 minute flight rather than the 90 minute drive.

Had a great time

We stayed for eight nights in early July. I did lots of research on resorts in many different countries and settled on Couples Negril hoping for a laid-back atmosphere, no pretension, just good times on a great beach with no worries. I have to say CN surpassed my hopes in that regard. Staff was cool, friendly, and mostly hard working. Everyone treated nicely, no problem getting a beach chair, no wait for drinks. There were a few areas where there could be a bit of improvement so I'm going with 4-stars overall, but really we were not far from perfection. The food generally was far better than I expected. I also didn't expect to be able to get breakfast delivered every morning. That became our alarm clock and there was no better start to the day than coffee and fruit and croissants on our balcony. Dinners at Lychee and Otaheite were terrific. Lychee's food and service actually exceeded Otaheite IMO but at Otaheite I had a few dishes that were among the best I've tasted - the duck entree, the grilled tenderloin, and the vegetarian risotto. We also loved the veggie bar for the different paninis, and the serve yourself chicken patties at the beach grill were addictive. We also found ourselves ordering from the grill for a late lunch quite a bit. We were not all that impressed with the buffet. Part of the problem was the setting in which you dine. Even at 9 pm it was soooooo hot in there. The fans didn't move the air much at all. And it was dark, so dark that you couldn't really see what you were eating. I loved the taste of the oxtails but it was difficult to eat them because I couldn't see all the small bones. It was just too dark and too hot in there to enjoy the meal. The nightly entertainment is there too and was great, but again so hot sitting there watching it. We had a great time with the free water sports and the staff there was very helpful. They also were very patient with all the water skiiers who never seemed to make it more than a couple seconds. The one drawback we had with that area was at least four different times we were hard sold on the "night snorkeling trip" which costs extra. I dont know if they get overtime if they schedule one or what but this was the one part of the resort that was oddly very pushy. Everywhere else was extremely laid back. Overall the service was excellent. It was no problem to quickly get a drink on the beach, in fact once I ordered a cranberry juice and the server slyly smiled and asked if she could add some vodka to it for me. I hesitate to single out any one person because there were many that were top notch, but the hostess at Lychee was so friendly and eager to please, and the pregnant woman who took orders at the beach grill was exceedingly pleasant given how hot and uncomfortable she probably was. The rooms were comfortable, not fancy but very sufficient, the bed was nice, the A/C was cold, the shower was strong. We really liked how there was a turn-down service in the evening. Since it rained almost every afternoon, we sometimes took a pre-dinner nap, and it was very pleasing to come back to bed that was remade again and some fresh clean towels. We did get some clever towel animals on our bed, but never got rose petals that I've seen mentioned in other reviews. We didn't watch much TV but it was nice to have some good channels when we wanted to relax before dinner or before falling asleep. The robes and water bottles were a nice touch. We had a great time with the entertainment staff and enjoyed the jewelry making class, hat making class, barology, just to name a few. Casino night was fun but I wish they could've arranged for someone to be available to bring drinks. It was past 10 and the closest bar was closed, and if you wanted something you had to stop playing and go walk off to find it. So by the midway point of casino night you just wanted to leave to get a drink. For all or most of the activities you earn fake money that you can use at an auction to "buy" a souvenir. This was cool but the auctions were Friday afternoon and Wednesday night. We had to leave to fly home on Wednesday morning, so everything we earned after the Friday auction we just had to toss because we weren't going to be around for the next one. If they had another auction, say on Monday, it might help guests be more motivated to earn more fake money. Transport to and from the airport was very professional and comfortable. We didn't experience any crazy driving from our own drivers or see it on the road. Our drivers weren't very entertaining but really I don't care as long as we get to our destination safely. We signed up for Club Mobay for our arrival, and even though the immigfation lines were short, I'd still recommend it for a first visit to Jamaica. It helped ease the stress of arriving in a new country, the CM rep was very nice and she and my wife really hit it off as she guided us through the aiport. We were hungry from our flight so we enjoyed the snacks at the CM lounge and we got some rum punch for the drive to the resort. Check-in at the resort was friendly and we were glad to get the cool towels and champagne. Our tour was abbreviated because it was pouring rain. We really didn't get in the pool much because the beach was so perfect. It would've been kind of nice to be able to swim after dark too, especially after sweating it out in the buffet. But that didn't seem to be available. There was a secluded hot tub over by the dive pool that never worked the entire time we were there. We approached THREE different Couples employees - one maintenance guy and two dive shop - about it and got three completely different answers, but never saw anyone actually try to fix it. We wanted to use that more secluded hot tub rather than the ones out in the sun at the main pool, but after four attempts to ask about it, we just gave up. We had some trouble early in our trip figuring things out because information was hard to come by. I'd strongly suggest the resort create a central location to inform guests of things and have a specific person whose job it is to know everything. Some examples of our mishaps: Went looking for the basket weaving class but no one seemed to know about it. Ended up asking guest services, who must have misunderstood because the directions they gave us turned out to be directions to the basketball court. Finally found the right place for the class but it had been cancelled because the instructor didn't make it. Similarly there was a "3-point shootout" on the activity calendar so I got off the beach and changed into workout clothes to go shoot. Another guest was there at the courts but no one from Couples ever showed up, so we just shot some baskets by ourselves. We missed the first couples massage class because the signs for that were in a different part of the resort and not on the signs with the entertainment. We didn't find out until our last day that we could do a day at the other Couples resort. We actually found that out from one of the people working the Catamaran, who wasn't even a Couples employee. If this information was posted or offered earlier in our visit, we could've checked that out. The schedule showed that Lychee was closed Monday for the repeater's dinner, so we planned to try the Italian restaurant that night. But when we went down for dinner, it was the Italian restaurant being used for the repeater's dinner and Lychee was open. The information in the in-room binder was out-dated and not accurate, it stated there is a free shuttle to Rick's, but the shuttle is actually an extra charge. But I need to say again that all of the negatives were very minor and overall we had a great time. There are many more positives and unexpected features to the resort than I can mention here. Go with high expectations and you won't be disappointed. With a few tweaks here and there this resort would be perfect. As it is, we would still go back and love it. Thanks Couples Negril for a great time.

Another great return visit to Couples negril
