Pretty much what we expected
ANTHONY W.

The hotel was about as expected. Front desk staff were helpful and housekeeping staff was great. Always a clean room with fresh towels. The Stingers restaurant staff didn't provide very good service as we typically had to wait to be served even though it wasn't busy. The food was pretty good. The included breakfast buffet was better than expected. Lots of choices, and everything was kept fresh and in good supply. They seemed to have a difficult time with keeping tables clean. The swimming pool is quite small, but we always were able to find a lounge chair. There isn't much beach left -- we were told it was because of the recent hurricane. Snorkeling off the beach was okay. The paid excursions offered from the dive center were much better. We ended up going on the Stingray & Snorkel tour twice. The hotel is a good value for the price.

Good value for the price. The only thing that was given up is the view of the ocean and the beach from the pool. You have to walk a little ways down a narrow path to get to the beach.

Really sorry to write a negative review, as the staff at this hotel was wonderful. But you can't change the fact that it is a five story hotel with a second row seat to the beach. No ocean views; claustrophobic pool area; set on a very busy street. The beach itself, accessed from an alley between the ocean-front hotels, was solidly covered in lounge chairs Yes, the Comfort Suites has it's own section which was about three rows deep and 10 chairs wide. From this hotel's section, the hotels next door had their own solid coverage of beach chairs, and on and on. If you like being in a solid mass of people, this beach might be for you. We spent two nights here in mid-January after spending 6 nights on the East End. What a night and day difference. Seven mile beach was like New York city versus the East End being Caribbean paradise. I wouldn't recommend this part of Seven Mile Beach regardless of hotel--I really pitied the people staying at the Marriott next door, most of whom had no ocean view, and many looked down at the Comfort Suites pool yard. Those people paid a lot more than the Comfort Suites cost us, and I can't imagine they had a better experience. I'd recommend going somewhere else in the Caribbean if this is all you can afford in Grand Cayman.

Our family of four (7 year old and 4 year old boys) traveled to Grand Cayman for 10 days and stayed here for the first three nights of our trip in December 2017. The weather was unseasonably cold, the ocean was rough, and not swimmable. Thank goodness the room was large and comfortable because we had plenty of space for the boys to play indoor games, like corn hole. Enjoyed having the kitchenette so that I could reheat leftovers for snacks. The room at the Comfort Suites is basic and what you would expect of a budget hotel. The unexpected was the quality of service provided by the staff. Everyone was super kid friendly and helpful. The pool and hot tub are nice. There are roosters running around on the property. The grounds are well kept. The free breakfast buffet had lots of options and got us off to a good start. The restaurant on the property, Stingrays, was really good. We enjoyed the mahi mahi sandwich. The staff was very nice and welcomed our two young sons for lunch. This hotel is not ocean front, but may as well be. In less than a 2 minutes walk you can have your toes in the ocean. If you are familiar with 7 mile beach, the walkway from the hotel runs along the Marriott's outdoor deck. Our only negative comment has nothing to do with the hotel. A recent tropical storm sucked the sandy beach in this area of Seven Mile Beach out to sea, so there really is not beach behind the hotel or the Marriott. Very sad because years ago, 7 mile beach was beautiful in front of the Marriott. Our first day, the ocean waves were crashing all the way up to the steps of the Marriott's deck (seen in the photo). For an inexpensive stay, I would recommend this hotel. We spent the next 7 nights at the Westin and I will write a review on that hotel too.

Loved this hotel! Great location and had a nice sized pool and hot tub. They also have a section of the beach with free chairs for their guests. The hotel staff was very friendly and the breakfast was free and very good. Loved it!

Hotel Itself is Quite Good, but Beach-Related Issues

The hotel is well-located along Seven Mile Beach (a short walk away and no streets to cross), the rooms are functional and very clean, and the cost is low relative to nearby hotels. So there are many "pros" to staying at this hotel. But there are are "cons" as well. There is currently construction near the south side of the hotel, and it was disturbing. The breakfast offerings are quite basic -- e.g., coffee was weak, oatmeal was packaged rather than fresh. The real concern, though, is that the beach is almost gone, and the 18 or so loungers that do fit on the beach were never occupied by more than a few people; instead, people "reserved" the chairs for future use by placing books, lotions, hats, etc., on the chairs, then left. This insidious practice should, of course, be prohibited. But the beach attendant mostly stayed around the corner from the beach and did nothing at all to mitigate this problem. This is a substantial problem that, in my view, the hotel must address if it is to attract repeat customers.

We stayed here during Pirate's Week in November 2017. Everyone we met was very friendly and happy to assist. The breakfast was plentiful and free, which was remarkable considering other neighboring hotels were charging 20+$ for their breakfasts. There is always a large container with ice water in the lobby, so we refilled our water bottles each time we walked by. The pool was very refreshing, never busy, and there were plenty of loungers for everyone. The path to the beach is short and shady, and there were numerous loungers on the beach as well. Due to recent storms passing through, there was very little "beach" in front of most of the hotels in this area. We just walked to the right down in front of some condos and laid out our towels on the sand there. Water was gorgeous! Found a few bits of seaglass each time I walked down the beach but no cool shells. Enjoyed drinks each night at Stinger's, the pool bar. Better prices than any bar in the area so guests from the higher-end hotels were coming there too. Would recommend if you are on a budget and don't care too much about fancy stuff.
