Lovely boutique property with good service and a beachfront location.

This is a truly gracious and romantic spot. We were warmly greeted and our beachfront room was immaculate and overlooked the lush gardens surrounding the restaurant and the ocean steps beyond. I've travelled a lot and lived in the Caribbean, but this view caught my breath. We realized the next day that our AC wasn't working and the staff handled it swiftly with a big room upgrade. Our disappointment about loosing our beach view was short lived when we saw the luxurious garden suite overlooking the pool that we were moving to. This pool is one of the nicest I've seen. It winds through the gardens and has several romantically curtained daybeds. The beach staff is attentive and although the beach itself is a bit smaller than some, it was pristine, shaded, stocked with comfy lounges, and the water was perfection. Even the food was better than expected. Yes, the birds might try to swipe at your food. It's part of living amidst the lush tropical vegetation. I would recommend this resort unhesitatingly.

The location and setting of this luxury hotel is perfect.

Our family returned to the Colony Club in July and found once again that this luxurious Hotel was the perfect place to relax in Barbados. We had fabulous interconnecting rooms that were furnished to a high standard. The pool and gardens are extremely well maintained, and all the staff were as ever, friendly and professional. The front desk were knowledgeable and helpful, and the location for exploring Barbados is perfect. We look forward to returning to this fabulous Hotel.

Luxury hotel in stunning gardens but not perfect....

We'd booked a 2 centre holiday before we flew out - thank goodness we did as our first 6 days on the south coast (staying at the lovely Bougainvillea Hotel - see separate review) was great except we never went into the sea at all - too much seaweed and rumours of raw sewage up the coast!). The next 6 days we were very happy to be on the weed-free west coast with clear blue water rather than muddy brown sea. First impressions of the hotel are of a large tranquil place - with the low level rooms set around the beautiful garden leading down to the beach. LOCATION - hotel right on the beach. Beach clean, clear calm water for ages to swim in. Tall trees on parts of its beach for shade. Hotel is very quiet - no road noise. Buses run up at the main road (Although no Z buses like we used on the south coast which are everywhere and very frequent to great to use for a $2 BBD single anywhere fare). STAFF - all incredibly friendly and very helpful. HOTEL - the pool area with its bar and areas of seating were great and very informal and relaxed. Plenty of quiet places to sit in a and around the winding pool through the garden when we were there in first week of July. Restaurant is lovely and cool and always a breeze wafting through and the food was brilliant. We stayed on a half-board basis as it worked out a lot cheaper for us (It's not cheap - We couldn't have afforded to pay every night for the meals we had!!) The menus were very extensive and superb for every evening. Bar prices are what you'd expect in a smart hotel but not stupid and the happy hour cocktails are good value. Lunch food seemed popular but we never ate lunch - the excellent buffet breakfast was enough to keep us going - huge range of everything you could think of, including a chef making fresh omelettes etc too. ROOMS - A little tired & dark we thought. (Dark brown wooden furniture too). Not the biggest of rooms but large enough and had everything we needed. Odd that they had a large carpet on the floor around the large bed (my wife thought the bed was very uncomfortable). Carpet is odd in a hot country and never saw any vacuum cleaners with the cleaners so carpets probably not very clean? Own balcony/terrace outside with seating & table but we never sat outside here for long as a lot of flies and mosquitos as the setting of the hotel in its lush gardens makes it a perfect place for these to live and bite us! GARDEN - Stunning beautiful garden. Our room was at the back of the garden and we loved the position here and walking through the garden to get to the beach or restaurant. Only takes about a slow 4 min walk to the beach. Large selection of plants and enormous trees. We loved watching all the birds (and the mongoose scuttling around through the day) and at around 5.30pm near our room location the local monkeys would come over to the mango tree to feed. Facilities & Events - we used the complimentary water-sports which were great but there were also lots of other things listed through the week e.g. yoga classes, walking trips. I did a morning tour of the main gardens and then around their small organic kitchen garden. One of the chefs then came over to cook a meal with fresh items from their organic garden - it was fantastic and all free. We used the complimentary mini bus taxi tour over to Bathsheba on east coast, the St. Nicholas Abbey and Huntes Gardens - this was brilliant and highly recommended - you need to book this (you only pay for the entrance into the Huntes Garden & the Abbey. We chose only to pay to go into the Garden - not the Abbey and sat outside in the sun and relaxed for an hour. Stan the taxi driver was excellent and very informative with his running tour guide). The hotel gives you a list of all events etc that are taking place each week when you check in. BEACH - clean, white sand, it's quite small I would say for the size of the hotel so sunbeds are close together. I would imagine in high season it would be very busy. It's quite a shallow beach from water edge to the start of the hotel wooden decking although the beach extends across the width of the hotel. Lots of spare towels in wooden storage cabinets on beach BUT usually all sunbeds are taken - the beach was spoilt by selfish British people who insist on going down early before breakfast and reserving the sunbeds. Although the hotel policy is not to do this and the beach attendants are around sometimes it's not really fair on them to have constantly police selfish Brits who spoil it for others (we're British by the way & when we stayed there we only heard & saw Brits in the place. Why do Brits reserve a subbed then don't use it for hours? Big negative for us on this hotel (we've always enjoyed our self catering villa holidays where you don't get this problem!) TOURIST TAX - Note from 1st July 2018 the new government started a tourist tax at $10 BBD per room per night for this "luxury" standard hotel (cost varies according to class of hotel) so for a family of 4 & 2 separate rooms it's something you have to now consider in your budget (something that only happened with the new government in July'18). First trip to Barbados for us.....it's a very British holiday destination....

Heaven!!!

Just spent the last 2 weeks at CC, our first visit, which has been utter bliss. We transferred from Turtle Beach in the South which was disappointing and a very different hotel. The Colony Club grounds are beautiful, the beach is pristine and the gardens surrounding the meandering pools are really lovely. There is such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the hotel, the staff are really lovely and you can’t help being caught up in the Bajan relaxed way of life. We were B&B and the breakfasts are really good, lots of choice all very fresh and of high quality, I’m struggling to find fault, other than perhaps the coffee could have been stronger some mornings (I told you I was struggling to find anything). We ate twice in the evenings at the A La Carte, first time was OK, second time was excellent, perhaps it was what we chose the first time. All day menu has the usual informal dining choices but, again, very good quality and generous portions. It’s not cheap to eat in the hotel and the drinks are expensive but to be honest, no more than eating at a half decent restaurant in Holetown which is a 5 minute cab ride, a 20 minute walk (or a 1 minute Reggae Bus ride) from the hotel. The West Coast is generally very pricey so be prepared! Finally, I must make mention of the water sports facilities and the brilliant team who run it. They are so friendly, relaxed and helpful and they absolutely made our holiday. Big thanks to “the Captain” who patiently taught me how to sail, something I will never forget. We have loved Barbados and the Colony Club, it’s been an unforgettable time and we can’t wait to come back.

Its in a great location on the beech & the views are to die for. We stayed for 7 nights and was not disappointed . The staff are friendly & always great you with a smile . The room we stayed in looked over one of several pools, surrounded with palm trees , and only a minutes walk to the beech . The buffet breakfast had plenty of choice with a bajan twist.
