What a differnce a year makes!! OMG

We stayed here January 2017 and were so impressed we rebooked as soon as we returned home for January 2018. What a huge difference and a massive disappointment!! We booked the 1 Bedroom Junior Suite, the best room the Hotel has to offer !!! There are only 4 of these suites opposite pool and beach. The Hotel classes itself as a "LUXURY HOTEL" and is clearly not. Yes we do pay the price of a luxury hotel but the service and standards are more befitting to a 2 star hotel. For those that say it is the Barbados way to be laid back and easy going staff you are wrong. A visit to any other Luxury Hotel close by will see a vast difference on service, cleanliness, Staff attitudes etc. The Colony Club has lost its mark. Paying £9000 for the hotel alone for a week you would expect luxury in all aspects. The problems are as follows. 1. Mould on Bread at breakfast!! 2. Pool and beach policy was implemented whilst we were there due to problems. Now you cant reserve a bed till 8am and if not used within 2 hours items removed. Great if the staff were actually there to implement and police !! 3. Staff totally demoralised, moody, apart from odd one or two. 4. Rubbish left by tables, spilt drinks not cleaned, for several days. 5. Cleanliness of room, walk ways, pool area, tables. 6. One night a power cut for several hours, total darkness, no plans in action apart from a few candles for tables. Bays later each room supplied with a TORCH!! 7. No pool attendant asks if you require drinks, you have to go to the bar and hope they acknowledge you despite several just standing there doing nothing. If you get the guy who's world has collapsed you walk away. Oh sorry I forgot we pay for drinks and service. 8. Dirty towels pilled at the towel station, however no clean ones to be found, photos attached. 9. Knowledge of reception staff poor. Were not aware that we could pay for fast track through security and passports at Airport when leaving!! 10. We had a foot wash at our suite to clean before taking sand into room, supposed to be cleaned every day. Was left dirty through out week and only got topped up with RAIN. 11. Many rooms are not usable due to rain, damp, so check your room. 12. There are several pool and beach attendants. The beach guys are around at 7am till about 9am, then disappear until later in day to start putting all beds away, so no help during the day !! no clean towels. I called reception at 2pm to ask for towels and 3 hours later nothing !!! The lsit is endless. This is not be picky. If you want to sell yourself as a Luxury resort then provide the service and other attributes that befit that brand!! The Hotel wishes to Be classed as Luxury and is not. The whole place looks run down, tired, dirty. A recent change of Management can be my only reason why this place has deteriated in last 12 months since our last visit. If you are paying a few thousand pounds to stay here then is ok for the money, but when paying for their ultimate best room, it is really poor value. So go with an open mind.

Great Christmas but with a few issues

We stayed at Colony Club for a week over Christmas. We have stayed at other Elegant hotel properties, including Tamarind and Waves and I would consider this to be their premium property. We stayed in a junior suite pool/garden view room which was very well appointed, however I think a guest with a disability would struggle to use the shower/ bath , as it was at a lower level, which you had to step down to. In addition there was a lack of power sockets to charge phones etc. The food was generally very good, however the lunch service on the sun deck was very slow and it was evident that a number of guests were becoming frustrated. The lunch buffet on Xmas day was very good, however the Gala Dinner on the night was not so great. Personally I do not see the need to do such a lavish dinner when the majority of the guests are still full from lunch. Moreover their was a £40 supplement per person for food that was not up to the usual high standards of this hotel. It was interesting to note that the majority of guests were sitting on the Sun Deck ordering room service! My biggest issue is the sun bed reserving policy. It is ridiculous that guests are allowed to reserve sun beds as early as 5am and then not use them for all or part of the day. We experienced the same problem at Tamarind last year. The hotel needs to come up with a system that stops this. A possible solution is to implement a system that guests can only reserve a bed with a hotel towel that is collected from a pool attendant from 7am onwards and if the bed is not used for 1.5 hours then it is available to other guests. I have seen this work successfully at many hotels in the USA. Overall we had a great time and would recommend this hotel but would ask that they try and address the issues above.

We stayed at the Colony Club last year for 2 weeks for the same period and obviously we enjoyed it so much we ended up back there this year! This year we stayed in a Garden Suite, which was a lovely room, although very much more expensive than the standard room. Although it was very nice, unless you want to spend a lot of time in your room I am not sure it is worth the extra cost. However saying that, the bathroom was much nicer in our suite. Staff for the main part are very warm and friendly and service is generally very good throughout the hotel. We ate lunch most days in the sunset deck, and I am surprised that the previous reviewer was so disappointed with the food here. We really found that the food was excellent every day – club sandwich, cobb salad, burger, chicken wrap, fish tacos (and more!) all really good. Obviously it’s each to their own but I don’t think we had a bad meal here. We also ate in the hotel one evening when they had their seaside grill. It’s not cheap (although on a par with prices you come to expect on the west coast) but the quality is excellent. Only disappointment with this was that we had to eat inside because there was a wedding on the sunset deck. As many, many other reviewers have said, the sunbed race is annoying. But, if you can’t beat them – join them! I have to admit we did reserve sunbeds, however we would be using them from around 9.30am onwards, and if we did not need them anymore we would always clear our stuff and towels so that someone else could use them. You would see reserved sunbeds empty for hours which is a bit selfish. The hotel is in an excellent location close to so many brilliant restaurants. The Tides (Holetown – about 5 minutes drive away) is my favourite and it’s very easy to get anywhere as there are always taxi’s available just outside the hotel. Michael Jackson was a particular favourite of ours – really friendly guy with a nice clean car (he was always cleaning it!!). Also, make sure you do the Oistins trip on a Friday night. Great fun! Very enjoyable 2 weeks – my only complaint was that it went too quickly!!!!!!! We are already looking at coming back in 2018 for the third time!

We have recently stayed for three nights, room with ocean view was exceptional. Staff mainly were very friendly and professional. Complimentary water sports were very good. Hotel generally needs refurbishment especially in library area. Our only complaint was regarding the food in the sun deck beach bar was absolutely dreadful. I would not recommend anyone to have a ‘last day snack’ here, steak sandwiches were tough and BLT in a wrap was dry and tasteles, tables were dirty and needed a good wash. I would recommend anyone to stay at the Colony Club but not to dine in the Beach Bar.
