It’s a shame as so much else is perfect

Water Sports at CC It’s easy to separate the hotel from the water sports because one is fabulous and the other is an embarrassment. The key is that staff at the water sport are contractors and are not employed by Elegant R and different from their other Barbados 🇧🇧 Hotels. Our first three days involved no water sports as red flag 🚩 but there were clear windows when a water ski boat could easily have gone out and done a few runs. Every piece of literature says they open at 9:15 but most days we saw the first ski at 10:45 after a turtle trip block booking. This usually involves the first six 15mins slots! They charge $50adults. So that means the flattest water opportunity early am is lost to a non water sport. Why? I made the Leisure Guest relations Manager aware of these issues early in our stay but nothing changed! The guys here get an hours shut down for lunch and everything’s stops but not so at other ER hotels. I offered to pay for an extra ski but was told they weren’t interested. In the end I went to the neighbouring hotel and hired their water sports guys. Incidentally their water sports cabin is spotless and resembles a BMW show room the Colony’s equivalent is a student digs. I am also concerned that the safety of swimmers is also being compromised. Paddle boarders regularly move across the swimmers sectioned off area without being told not to. There is no discipline from the water sports team to stop or correct the paddler or when he is coached. The hotel is fab with great staff and many repeaters. Big thanks to Ian on arrival, Trevor the best unknown guest relations advert, Sandra who runs many restaurant events so well, Tyrone behind any bar, Wendell for his great service. Many more who are always there. I only hope the management can sort out the watersports fiasco and ensure that more repeaters will continue to come every year.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks to celebrate our honeymoon and it’s a wonderful hotel. Our room was perfect, overlooking the waterfall pool - far enough a way from the hustle of the main area but not hidden away in the car park. A bottle of cava on ice and chocolate covered strawberries were waiting upon our arrival, which was a nice touch. Beautiful 4-poster bed, which has to be one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in whilst holidaying. An espresso type coffee machine in the room allowed for 2 large cups each before breakfast (we just had to tell the maid that we weren’t fans of the decaf pod). Free bottles of water on turn down service, which doesn’t sound special but we’ve spent fortunes buying bottled water whilst on holiday so it’s nice you don’t have to do that here and even better that the tap water is drinkable anyway. Food cannot be faulted. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great selection and never had a bad meal. Breakfast is particularly good, catering for everyone. The staff are all wonderfully friendly, nothing was too much trouble. I want to give a special mention to Anita who makes the tastiest omelettes - all the guests missed her when she had a day off. She is truly lovely and we very impressed that she remembered our names each morning given how many guests she serves. The location of the hotel is good, just north of Holetown with plenty of restaurants within walking distance and easy enough to explore the rest of the island - we decided to hire a car for the week so we could get out and about easily but tacos and buses are plentiful. The only tiny point of irritation was the rule of not putting towels out before 7.30am. We were told this on arrival and I’m always happy to play by the rules if they’re enforced. They’re not - people out at 6.30am to get the best spots which is fine if you’re up and staying on the beach but many just dump their books and head to breakfast or back to their rooms. Difficult not to follow suit if you want a good spot on the beach and hard for the staff to enforce so just got to let it happen I guess. Luckily being 4 hours behind the UK meant we were waking up between 6am - 7am anyway. Doesn’t ruin your holiday but just to beware that on your first few days, expect to evaluate how it works. Overall, a great hotel. A little spendy but I guess most are and we didn’t mind paying a bit more as it’s our honeymoon. You won’t be disappointed.

We are a week into our 2 week honeymoon at the Colony Club and have not been disappointed. We have a poolside room with direct access to one of the swimming pools, the bed is super comfy and staff servicing the rooms are excellent. Holetown is within easy walking distance with its many restaurants, bars and shops inc Limegrove and a big supermarket. As well as many of the restaurants we have eaten dinner and lunch at the hotel and the food is to a high standard as is the service. There is a wide variety of options for breakfast each morning, however chatting to Anita has to be a highlight, always so happy and friendly and the eggs and omelettes are amazing too! Perfect start to the day 😁 The poolside/swim up bar is great too with a whole host of cocktails and drinks to choose from. Front desk have been very helpful sorting out car hire for us and any queries we’ve had. Rum Vault is a must! Beach is awesome and the sun beds are available. However, if you are one of those people who wants to sit in the same lounger for the duration of your holiday then yes, you’d best get up early, if not you should be fine! We would come again.

Nice stay in beautiful property

Spent a week at Colony Club and it was a relaxing vacation. Stayed in Junior suite with pool view, room was comfortable with large bathroom/sitting area and balcony. The property is far from street so it’s very quiet and serene with nature sounds. You can sometimes see a mongoose or green monkey. The area the hotel is situated in doesn’t have that much hustle and bustle like Christ church or Bridgetown which can be a con if you want go out, but it does have a lot of nice restaurants surrounding it and you easily take reggae bus from in front of hotel for $2. The hotel does have its fleet of “luxury” taxis which is +\- . Going back to airport cost around $100 while coming from airport with airport taxi was $64. Con: The beach is very small, so all beach chairs are bunch together and your pretty much all on top of each other. Also you have to reserve you chair early in morning or you may end up with out a beach chair or in bad spot. I.e by 8am better get a chair..It’s kinda crazy for a luxury hotel. Also in junior suite the tub is sunken so prob not best for people with limited mobility. But overall good trip would recommend hotel and the west coast for people stay.

Disappointing experience

We are now 3 days in and wishing we had booked in elsewhere. The hotel is faded and is obviously due a refurbishment to the public areas in particular. We have a junior suite that is tucked into trees with no natural light to the room or balcony. The bathroom has a shower situated in a sunken bath that must be positively dangerous to enter for anybody who is even slightly infirmed. In addition we did not have any hot water for the first 2 days and now we can only describe it as tepid. The food is mediocre and the service is by and large poor. Our car was valet parked on the private road accessing the hotel. On retrieving it we were sternly told it should not be parked there and not to do it again. There are better hotels on the West Coast for the same price and we will be enjoying them in the future
