Second time to Barbados - first time to Coconut Court

Coconut Court is a family run hotel on the beachfront at Hastings. Mrs P and I spent two weeks there in September 2018. Things you need to know about the hotel: Location - right on the beach which is sandy and protected by a reef so ideal for children. There are also swimming pools and a beach bar which is shaded by trees. At the front of the hotel is the main Hastings to Bridgetown road giving you the advantage of buses in either direction from just outside the hotel - on the downside is the noise - particularly the merry chirrup of the reggae buses’ triple tone horns as they ply for trade. Bridgetown is about 15 minutes West, Oistins about 20 minutes east- allow more time on a Friday night when hundreds descend on the Oistins fish market for the famous fish Friday celebration of barbecued fish, music and rum. Accommodation: rooms are clean and well maintained. Ours came with TV, fridge, microwave and ironing facilities as well as the necessary air con and ceiling fan. For the gadget fans the power outlets (US style two pin) also had USB charging points and there was an alarm clock with iPod/ phone dock. The free Wi-Fi worked fine - you had to log back in daily, which isn’t the end of the world but a bit of a pain. This is the home of the legendary ‘Ted’s Tours’ - not to be missed - check it out on TripAdvisor or go to the activity centre in the hotel. We had a brilliant time and everyone on the tour kept smiling and talking about it for the rest of the holiday! General island info: Currency - the Barbados Dollar - pegged at 2 Barbados dollars to $1 US. Driving - on the left like the UK. Buses - three sorts on the island all cost 2 Barbados dollars per journey irrespective of distance- big blue government run ones - have the right money and put it in the glass box by the driver - no change given. Middle sized orange ones - have a conductor and gives change. White ‘reggae’minibuses - still regulated but you might not guess it - very frequent but can be a very loud white knuckle ride - got to be tried though. Walking - not common - could be because of the frequent cheap buses or the state of the pavements. Street lighting is intermittent at best so take care at night - not for muggers - crime levels are very low - but for pot holes and reggae buses! Relax and enjoy!

just returned from coconut court hotel, the hotel is as described and had a wonderful relaxed feel about it . the rooms were great. very clean and bright, the food was amazing. the beach was beautiful ,and there were loads of sunbeds. all the staff were very polite and friendly. I would rate this hotel much more the 3 star so know need to be concerned about that . we loved it there and would go again and recommend it to everyone.

Disappointing

We simply chose this hotel after looking through and studying reviews, arrival and check in was super quick the receptionist was very pleasant in greeting us and supplying us with information required. We were assisted to our room by a young gentleman whom made it clear he expected to receive a tip, in doing so which we kindly obliged, the room itself had a musty smell so so that I did not unpack my case for the duration of my stay. The curtains and blinds have a strange odour and this was not a basic room we paid extra for superior ! It seemed to have a damp feeling the bedding felt damp and had an odour of bleach which was unpleasant to say the least. We decided it was only going to be used as a base to sleep as after all this was Barbados! The beach area looked inviting after a long day travelling how wrong could we be ??? We were inundated with so called drug dealers who offered us an array of narcotics and drugs. The beach area is a total nightmare it's chaotic with locals trying to sell you whatever they can, the security guards at this resort know it's happening and turn a blind eye its practically every day some days it's happening hourly.......... If your looking for tranquil and peace this is not the hotel for you,We loved Barbados and travelled the island far and wide would we stay here again ? I doubt it ! I understand you cannot please everyone and everyone has different expectations and that is understandable this was our experiance and this review is based on that. Seaweed is also a problem on this area of beach and along with this comes flys again very unpleasant to have to wade yourself through this before you actually reach the clear sea water. We love to travel and thoroughly enjoyed what barbados had to offer just wished we could say the same for the coconut court !

If you like the peace and tranquility Barbados offers this is not the place for you !

We have recently returned from a weeks holiday at the Coconut Court and if like us you enjoy the peace and tranquility Barbados offers this is not the hotel for you. We love Barbados and have been every year for the past 10 years mostly to the same hotel. We enjoy sitting on our balcony at night listening to the ocean and the frogs and having a quiet drink. This was not possible at the Coconut Court as every night they have either a live band, karaoke or a disco until at least 10pm. Although the entertainment is based by the pool area it is so loud you cannot escape it. We were in the block away from the pool area but the music was so loud it may as well have been underneath us. We did make several complaints and asked for the music to be turned down, one manager we spoke to on the Sunday afternoon was very helpful and did understand our point of view, he arranged to have the speaker moved to face the other direction which muted it somewhat but other than that I think our comments fell on deaf ears. I will say that I accept that it may be just us who do not want this kind of intrusion, the hotel we normally stay at does not have nightly entertainment and this is what we expected from this hotel, we had stayed there in 2017 due to our normal hotel being closed for refurbishment and this was not a problem then so obviously something has changed. As I said a lot of people would probably enjoy the entertainment, however if you are like us and enjoy some peace and quiet at night this would not be the right place for you. Other than that if you don’t mind the music then this is quite a pleasant hotel, the rooms are nice and clean and on the whole the staff are welcoming and friendly. Our low marking is based entirely on the fact that the nightly entertainment spoiled our holiday.

We did plenty of research on this hotel prior to arrival. It did not disappoint in the least....in fact it exceeded our expectations. This is a charming hotel which has been in the same family for decades. That family pride shows through and through. They have certainly created something very special. The property sits on an amazing beach with palm trees and white sand. There are plenty of loungers available for you to take to your favorite spot. The sea out front was perfect for snorkeling. There was a plethora of reef fish, so be sure to bring a mask and snorkel. The clarity was awesome. The Manager's Party on Monday is a must. Music, rum punch, and Caribbean breezes....what more could you want! The barbecue was delicious... we had yummy ribs. The rooms were spacious and clean. We enjoyed a beautiful unobstructed ocean view. Loved waking up to that each morning. The road is right out front and the bus stop is right there. We enjoyed hopping on and off so easily. The staff is efficient and professional. If there is a need, it will be quickly addressed. We ate several times in the restaurant and enjoyed the ambiance a bit more than the food. It is satisfactory. We swam, we read books, we drank rum cocktails, we explored, and we relaxed. We have been fortunate to travel the world and explore wonderful places. This little gem is going on the top of our "favorites" list. We will return.
