Punta Cana Review This was my first visit to the Dominican Republic and my first experience at an all-inclusive. Nothing about this resort met my expectations. The rooms are damp and humid. Our first room was musty and moldy, so bad that I needed to use an inhaler for my asthma. After requesting another room, we were shown three different rooms. The first two had the same problem - musty and moldy. The third room was better, but periodically smelled like smoke from another room. If you are a non-smoker, good luck escaping second hand smoke. There are no designated smoking areas - be prepared for smoking on the grounds, at the pool, at the beach, and at some of the dining options. The beach was disappointing. Although the staff tried to keep it clean, the beach was full of seaweed and only a small portion of the water was free of seaweed. Not the pristine, clear-watered beach I was expecting. The food options were mediocre-nothing was great and the food had very little flavor. The tapas restaurant was very good, but the air conditioning was not working and it was incredibly hot and uncomfortable. The breakfast buffet was good. Be prepared for pushy salesmen who approach you immediately after checking in and regularly during your stay. They promise “free” this and “free” that to get you to a timeshare sales pitch. Wi-fi is spotty, if you’re lucky enough to find a signal. A few good notes: The pools were nice. I preferred the infinity pool, which was less crowded and seemed to attract a calmer crowd. The staff was wonderful. Everyone was friendly and helpful. No children. Lastly, I recommend considering another location for your stay in the DR.

Lovely relaxing hotel.

Excellent hotel for a relaxing holiday. Attentive staff good choice of restaurants and food selections. The Tapas restaurant was our favourite but the main restaurant always had daily specials and theme dinner evenings.Plenty of sun beds available both round the pool and on the beach which we prefered as there was always a sea breeze. Great beach bar which served Sushi at lunch time. The bedrooms are spacious and with large 4 poster beds. Good size bathrooms with walk in showers. This is the second time we have been to a Catalonia Hotel and would recommend this great adults only hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing switch off holiday.

Beautiful place but subpar service and food mediocre at best

My husband and I just returned from a week at catalonia royale bavarro where aside Edward at the piano bar every member of the staff showed us complete and utter disrespect. We were scoffed at every time we asked for a drink. We were forgotten about at dinner and then when we finally got the attention of our waiter we were told it was our fault for sitting outside. We tipped all of the staff but after a few days of being treated so disrespectfully we stopped showing that small token of gratitude until we were lucky enough to come upon Edward at the piano bar. By that time we were already annoyed and aggravated but Edwards positive attitude and delightful service quickly lightened the mood for a much needed taste of the vacation that we had expected. The grounds and the rooms were excellent and very well kept the major downfall to this resort was the service and it didn't help that the majority of the staff spoke very little english. I understand this is to be expected in a foreign country but when you are working on a resort it is important to be able to somewhat communicate with guests. We did take the snorkeling tour on the glass bottom boat which was well worth the money and we thoroughly enjoyed. We rented a car one day to venture off the resort over to macao beach which was very nice and my husband got a private surfing lesson that he very much enjoyed. There's a little restaurant there on the beach with really good food but be sure to get prices first because they will try to overcharge you. The country is beautiful but we will never return to this resort or any other catalonia resort.

First time out of country and it was AMAZING . The staff members were so helpful and so nice. I was pleased with room service and the amount of times they would clean daily. The restaurant that was amazing was Thalassa especially them changing their menu daily. So happy with our stay and service.

My husband and I were looking for a beachfront resort to unwind and just enjoy one another. This was the perfect location. We loved the serenity of the resort, all of the "love" photo ops and the fun and friendly staff.
