Worst hotel I have ever stayed at.
HALISA K.
Jul 06 2018
To start this was a bachelorette party trip with 12 girls total. Everything was gorgeous and very clean but the service and food were probably the worst I have ever experienced. This was my 4th trip to DR and I have never experienced service like this. We were insulted by the staff on a daily basis. We had a few girls with us that were fluent in Spanish and they understood the waiters and waitresses who were consistently insulting us, making fun of us, etc. During dinner one night our waiter kept making jokes then asked each of us a question in Spanish to see how fluent we were. Later as he was serving he responded to one of the girls saying "don't eat too much so you don't get fatter." She understood him, called him out, and he laughed at her and thought it was funny. The girl that was insulted spent the night crying and feeling completely uncomfortable staying at this resort- not something you'd expect on vacation or anywhere. Multiple times we would ask someone a question and we would get a blank stare and have them walk away. I understand that not everyone was a fluent English speaker in the hotel but we got 0 effort from them in trying to understand us or help us. There were of course a few people that were extremely helpful and kind but that was rare. We were told multiple times that weren't able to make reservations to restaurants so we would go to a restaurant for dinner and get turned back because "our group was too big" or they were already booked for the night - yet they don't take reservations. Overall, the food was unappetizing and very unsatisfying. The buffets were very picked through, birds were all over the food, and the staff was unhelpful as usual. The steakhouse tasted good but 5 of the girls were sick the next morning from it. As someone who regularly travels to DR, Mexico, etc. and has stayed at multiple all inclusive resorts this is by far the worst experience I have ever had. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I have stayed at several different hotels in Punta Cana, this was Adult only which was a nice option, but as far as the hotel itself it was just average. We did not use the beach at all this time, too much seaweed - and no waves like the ocean normally has. Very disappointed.

This resort still has many fine qualities, but we could tell that some quality has slipped. Our room, the food, the drinks, the bartenders, and the dinner service were all excellent. Some things we didn't like were that 3 out of our 5 lunches we had very poor service at lunch with extreme waits or no service at all until we complained. Also, we stay up late and sleep late. We could not get a clean beach towel around noon or later. They need to buy more towels if they can only provide them in the morning. It is still a good resort, but it does not have the service in all areas that it used to have. This was our fourth trip to this resort.

My wife and I stayed at the Catalonia Bavaro Royal and we happy with the many changes made since we were last there 10 years ago. The additional restaurants offered more choices and quality food. The infinity pool was great! In the bars for the Royal section, you had to ask for the upscale liquor or you were served the poor quality stuff. We incurred a lot of extra charges from Frontier Airlines on the flight to and from because of their policies about luggage and carry on bags. They did not even offer a cup of water to us on the flight home.

As soon as you check in another company matter of fact informs you there is a breakfast for Priority members being held the next day at The Pearls Club. You are also told it here is a total of one hour presentation including g a tourof the place. NOT TRUE !! We were there over 3 hours until I walked out. We wasted almost a half day on this trash. We were lead to believe this welcome breakfast was part of our package. Anyone who goes to this resort should be aware of what this welcome breakfast is and just say NO.

The bathtub in our room leaked. I called the desk and they sent a repair man. We waited an hour for him to show up and tell us he'd have to remove the tub the next day, but that he'd get someone to mop the floor. The hotel would not move us and said the resort was full. After dinner, there was more water outside and inside our room. I called the desk and waited an hour with nobody showing up. I went to the desk again and explained that we couldn't stay in the room and that we had to move. They found us a room, but it was 5 or 6 hours after the original leak. We packed at 11:30 at night to move. We felt a resort claiming high service should have been willing to act sooner and act more concerned about our comfort. By the way, the room we moved to also had a bathtub problem, the water lever was broken and water sprayed everywhere. That was another call to the desk, waiting an hour for a repairman that didn't show and another trip to the front desk. It was fixed shortly after we got back from dinner. The resort did send us a bottle of champagne and fresh fruit the next night. The rest of the resort was wonderful, but we felt like we wasted a night and part of another night dealing with problems that the resort didn't take too seriously.

I don’t know from where to start. This place rocks! I was there with my boyfriend and another friends couple in the beginning of January. Everything from start to finish was amazing. Honestly, I didn’t except to be that good. The place itself is huge, we were staying in the adults only part, but also sometimes were going to the restaurants in the other part of the resort, which is bigger, but I loved the royal bavaro better as it was not that crowded and calmer. It was our first time in Punta Cana, so I spent a lot of time checking reviews of the resorts there. There were much cheaper options and I am glad that I chose Catalonia Royal Bavaro. Every pence is worth it. The beach was super clean and well accommodated, bars and restaurants around, there was even a smoothie bar with fresh fruits. Just amazing! Some of the restaurant were offering buffet and some a la carte. I really loved the Thalapassa restaurant, and also the Yuca and the Steak house. All of them are great, don’t get me wrong, but these are my top. One thing that makes this resort that great is the staff. Everyone from the ladies cleaning the rooms, the guy providing the towels on the beach, the waiters, boys cleaning the seaweed etc. Everyone was so nice, smiley and helpful! I loved them and I wish they are appreciated. Definitely, I would love to come back and meet again all of the great people working there! Had so much fun, thank you Catalonia Royal ❤️

Another Great Christmas.

Great vacation, with some small issues

This is a really good hotel and should be rated 5 stars but there were some small issues that make you wonder. We traveled with my daughter and her husband and they had some experiences that affected the rating. This is the third time we've been to Catalonia Royal Bavaro over a span of about 10 years. First, the hotel is clean and the grounds well maintained. We did have some ants one night after returning from dinner but a call to the desk and someone was there quickly to get rid of them. The ants never appeared after that and I'm thinking it was more of an aberration than a regular problem. The drain in our room was a bit slow but that seems to be a problem everywhere we've been. Other than that, the room was clean. (The staff is continually sweeping sand out of the buildings!) We upgraded to the "Privileged" level but for us I don't think it was worth the upgrade. The room was supposed to be newer but it didn't seem any different than the room we had a few years ago. The building, however, was closer to the beach than the non-Privileged area (but not that much more). So if you're thinking about upgrading, make sure there's something in that package that will make it worth while. As far as the restaurants, we ate most breakfast and lunch meals at the Ocean Blue restaurant near the beach. For dinner we tried most of the others and some over at the Bavaro resort. I would recommend the Italian and the Japanese restaurants on the Bavaro side. The others on the Royal side are all good. The staff at all of the restaurants and bars deserve more than 5 stars - they were the real gem of this property. The beach is very nice and you can walk in either direction until you drop. There's no need for water shoes to walk the beach or swim in the ocean. There is seaweed that washes up on the shoreline but the staff works tirelessly raking and picking it up. This is one of my favorite beaches to visit. It's not very wide at this location as there are lots of palm trees close to shore. From what I could tell, there were usually plenty of lounge chairs available with only a few times where people where looking around for somewhere to sit. So that brings me to the reasons for not rating this hotel higher. It was mostly little things that make you wonder what might be going on. For example, we would order four appetizers for lunch and sometime you only got three. And the ones that were supposed to be hot were either cold or only warm. My daughter and her husband went to a restaurant one night, where seated, got water and placed an order, but then never got their food. They ended up going back to their room and ordering room service (one reason for the Privileged level I guess.) Another day, they didn't get their room cleaned. Again, not really a big deal, but sorta strange. One night at the beach bar, my daughter ordered a drink and the bartender said no - with no explanation. They went to a different bar and were served. So just small issues. The one issue that I think was more major was that someone removed an item from my daughter's room. We reported it when leaving. We were told that if we wanted to open a formal complaint they would need to search the room and her luggage (did they think she was incapable of looking for the item or that she was lying???) Since we were on our way to the airport, we skipped this procedure (it wasn't a high value item) but the idea that someone might steal your stuff is disappointing. So while on the whole I like this hotel and enjoyed staying there, some small issues conspired to decrease how I would rate the overall experience.
