Great holiday!

We have not long returned from a 2 week holiday here. Had a brilliant time and felt the facilities, food and drink to be of good quality. Loved the fact that there was only a buffet at breakfast and you didn't have to book the restaurants in advance. Our favourite restaurants were the Thalassa and Sea Blue but all were good. We did head to the hotel next door one evening but found it too busy and the Italian restaurant was below average. Carlos and Genevieve at the pool bar were amazing so were Alba and Miladis! Had no problem getting sun loungers, tables for dinner or seats in the bars. Different music each night between 8-10 outside, very civilised and a good standard.

WONDERFUL Honeymoon!

My husband and I just got back from the Catalonia, and wow! We were greeted quickly with wonderful refreshments prior to our check in. Fast service, and bonus! Our agent must of mentioned our honeymoon and we were originally with the Bavaro side, and upgrade to the Royal adults only side. We were so THRILLED and it was a great start to our vacation. The rooms: Nice big king bed, big soaker tub, and nice balcony with a hammock. AC worked great and the small fridge was restocked daily. Comfy bed, and nice modern decor. The pools: The two pools were awesome! The one closest to the lobby had a great swim up bar, and was the perfect temperature. The other one had the infinity pool overlooking the beach. Both wonderful. Lots of chairs and cabana beds at both. The towel game is real strong, so you have to get there early to get what seats you want. Santa is the most outstanding worker here!! She provides out of this world service, and works so hard. We will miss her! The beach: This is SUCH a gorgeous beach. White sand and beautiful blue water. The service to bring you drinks at the beach is great on this side. Down the beach about a 5 minute walk is the market. Be aware to be firm with prices and what you want. It is obvious they are very pushy about selling, but we get it.. they are trying to make a living. They shared some shots of mamajuana with us, and were open to bargaining. The food: The bonus about being at the royal is you have access to all restaurants including the sister side. The buffets were good, we liked that things like omletes were made fresh to order in front of you. Lots of variety, but got repetitive. But fear not, there are so many restaurant options, we only had dinner at the buffet once. We enjoyed every single a la carte. Our favorites were the Asian and the tapas restaurants. We highly recommend eating at the sea breeze near the beach for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Its amazing every time. They have great snack bars, wood fire pizzas and on the family bavaro side a great snack bar with fries, hot dogs, burgers etc. Our only complaint! The Maravilloso staff in white shirts are there to try and sell you something. It is not a time share, but an "exclusive membership" with them. Its around $8000 to start, and we were suckered in that it was not selling anything, and we were getting a nice beach lunch and massage out of it. Although we were pretty put off by this, the hotel itself outweighed this little hiccup. We would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone. We travel a lot, and this was by far the best resort we have ever stayed at. We miss it already!

Perfect Vacation

Greetings to those seeking a spot to vacation to! A longer review, but worth a read. My husband and I returned from our vacation on Friday night and couldn't be happier. We were looking for a place to go (as we do every year around this time), and happened to come across the Catalonia Royal Bavaro and were SO HAPPY with the decision to book here. ROOMS: We booked the basic room in building 42 (4229 was our exact room #) and were pleased with that location as it was centrally located between the beach, pools and main lobby. The room was clean and bed was comfy. POOL: The pools were great although we only used the one near the beach as the one closer to the main lobby was a little more on the "party" side, and when I say that, I only mean that there were more drinkers there but not to take away from those who enjoyed drinks by the other pool ;) There was no "annoying" music or super loud entertainment at this resort which was SO nice. BEACH: The beach was amazing...I read reviews from people that said the beach wasn't nice at all, and I heavily disagree. It was not a wide beach with long meters of sand, but it was still great. Lots of chairs, and big sun beds...and YES you CAN use them! You can also use the cabanas by the pool...they are not just for the exclusive club members. Oh, and you don't need to get to the beach or pool at the crack of dawn to get a good spot. We were down by the pool by 8. 830 am every morning and had tons of options to chose from. FOOD: The Food - O M G....SO good! We ate at every place at our resort (except for the Tapas - and not for any reason in particular) and loved every spot. When staying on the adults only side, you also have the option to go to the family side and eat at their restaurants too which was great too. I am a vegetarian and felt that there was always something for me to eat which is usually a struggle when we go away. but not here! Oh, and they also have SOY milk if you prefer that with your coffee. The only downfall with the food could be surrounding the 24 hour room service (and yes they DO have this too!). The late night menu is very limited but I guess who really wants to eat anything in the middle of the night anyway?! SERVICE: The staff here is wonderful!!! Super friendly and accommodating with your requests. Everyone always has a smile on their face and happy to see you. My husband speaks Spanish so that was helpful for us, but overall, the staff does speak English too. The staff at the piano bar is particularly lovely. Edward & Kayla were amazing, and down by the pool restaurant, Daliqui was a gem. But overall, they were all so wonderful. In summary, we WILL return to this resort 100% and that isn't something we have ever felt about anywhere else we've been in the last 12 years of traveling together as a couple. LOVE and MISS this place! You will not be disappointed. :)

We just returned from a ten day stay at this resort. It was our 9th time we have returned and we have all become like family. There is absolutely no other place in the Caribbean that we will go. When we arrived from Toronto, we easily navigated our way through the airport to our shuttle taking us to the resort. Upon arrival we were immediately met by Miguel, Juan and Marcial. Jennifer and Jalisa immediately checked us in and let us know to contact them if any concerns arise. Martin had ensured that we had amazing rooms. Edward, Keyla, Maria, Karen, Modesta, Maladis, Andy, Alba (Albia) worked extremely hard at the bars at the piano bar and the vegetarian bar. Dominga, Julio, Miguel, Dario, Ambrosia, Leonel, Omar and many others served us with pleasure at the Thalassa restaurant situated just off the main lobby. Mr Ruben, and Mr Altagracia the food and beverage managers run a very well oiled department. While on our vacation, we were treated to an amazing retirement party. At the Cata Tapas restaurant, which is our favourite, Franklin and Emmanuel, two of our absolutely favourite gentlemen made this event memorable from everything from balloons, flower petals on the table and a decorated cake. I was blown away. We had a great room and had absolutely not one issue the whole time we were there. We golfed 6 times at the 18 hole golf course. Ernesto, and Luis (Maceta) have become very dear to us. Luis always takes the time to discuss current events with us. Don't forget to attend the events that Jose works very hard at organizing. He is a ball of fire and extremely personable and fun to be around. We really enjoyed the Disco party. Our maid Ivelise always welcomed us with a hug and a smile and kept our room in great shape. Mr. Ruben, Ms. Carmen and Ms. Adriana work very hard at ensuring that people have a good time. They are approachable and will immediately address any situations that come up. They take their roles very seriously, but are also up for a good time and laugh. We thank you again for treating us like royalty.

Another great stay

Let's start with which airline we used, Sunwing. Stop laughing. We wanted the type of room and time of flight so we were stuck. We generally leave Canada at 9 am so when we arrive at the hotel it's roughly 3pm. Upon arrival, check in took less than 30 min and our room was ready. They take a pic of your passport and credit card. No cash is accepted at the shops on site. You can pay when you check out with cash or your card. American Express not valid here but any other card is. Everything is valued in US dollars though. The three restaurants were all amazing. The food was great and you can have either the free wine or order your own for extra. We stayed in the honeymoon suite lowest level in the privledged side. It cost extra but worth it. It is quieter and closest to the beach. Bring dryer sheets if you don't like the musty smell. It doesn't matter which room you have, this is the Caribbean people. The AC worked well for us and no issues with the room. The towel game is very much alive here so if you are up before 8 you will get a great chair selection. The beach is nice and the are constantly working on seaweed removal. We always ate breakfast at the family side and having the privileged designation let's you sit in a separate section. It also allows you to skip to the front of the line. The staff here is very friendly so the reciprocate whatever manner you reveal. So be nice to everyone and they will go out of your way to help you. This is our 9th time here in five years and will always come back here. See you in December.
