Worst hotel I have ever stayed at.
HALISA K.
Jul 06 2018
To start this was a bachelorette party trip with 12 girls total. Everything was gorgeous and very clean but the service and food were probably the worst I have ever experienced. This was my 4th trip to DR and I have never experienced service like this. We were insulted by the staff on a daily basis. We had a few girls with us that were fluent in Spanish and they understood the waiters and waitresses who were consistently insulting us, making fun of us, etc. During dinner one night our waiter kept making jokes then asked each of us a question in Spanish to see how fluent we were. Later as he was serving he responded to one of the girls saying "don't eat too much so you don't get fatter." She understood him, called him out, and he laughed at her and thought it was funny. The girl that was insulted spent the night crying and feeling completely uncomfortable staying at this resort- not something you'd expect on vacation or anywhere. Multiple times we would ask someone a question and we would get a blank stare and have them walk away. I understand that not everyone was a fluent English speaker in the hotel but we got 0 effort from them in trying to understand us or help us. There were of course a few people that were extremely helpful and kind but that was rare. We were told multiple times that weren't able to make reservations to restaurants so we would go to a restaurant for dinner and get turned back because "our group was too big" or they were already booked for the night - yet they don't take reservations. Overall, the food was unappetizing and very unsatisfying. The buffets were very picked through, birds were all over the food, and the staff was unhelpful as usual. The steakhouse tasted good but 5 of the girls were sick the next morning from it. As someone who regularly travels to DR, Mexico, etc. and has stayed at multiple all inclusive resorts this is by far the worst experience I have ever had. I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I have stayed at several different hotels in Punta Cana, this was Adult only which was a nice option, but as far as the hotel itself it was just average. We did not use the beach at all this time, too much seaweed - and no waves like the ocean normally has. Very disappointed.

This resort still has many fine qualities, but we could tell that some quality has slipped. Our room, the food, the drinks, the bartenders, and the dinner service were all excellent. Some things we didn't like were that 3 out of our 5 lunches we had very poor service at lunch with extreme waits or no service at all until we complained. Also, we stay up late and sleep late. We could not get a clean beach towel around noon or later. They need to buy more towels if they can only provide them in the morning. It is still a good resort, but it does not have the service in all areas that it used to have. This was our fourth trip to this resort.

My wife and I stayed at the Catalonia Bavaro Royal and we happy with the many changes made since we were last there 10 years ago. The additional restaurants offered more choices and quality food. The infinity pool was great! In the bars for the Royal section, you had to ask for the upscale liquor or you were served the poor quality stuff. We incurred a lot of extra charges from Frontier Airlines on the flight to and from because of their policies about luggage and carry on bags. They did not even offer a cup of water to us on the flight home.

As soon as you check in another company matter of fact informs you there is a breakfast for Priority members being held the next day at The Pearls Club. You are also told it here is a total of one hour presentation including g a tourof the place. NOT TRUE !! We were there over 3 hours until I walked out. We wasted almost a half day on this trash. We were lead to believe this welcome breakfast was part of our package. Anyone who goes to this resort should be aware of what this welcome breakfast is and just say NO.

The bathtub in our room leaked. I called the desk and they sent a repair man. We waited an hour for him to show up and tell us he'd have to remove the tub the next day, but that he'd get someone to mop the floor. The hotel would not move us and said the resort was full. After dinner, there was more water outside and inside our room. I called the desk and waited an hour with nobody showing up. I went to the desk again and explained that we couldn't stay in the room and that we had to move. They found us a room, but it was 5 or 6 hours after the original leak. We packed at 11:30 at night to move. We felt a resort claiming high service should have been willing to act sooner and act more concerned about our comfort. By the way, the room we moved to also had a bathtub problem, the water lever was broken and water sprayed everywhere. That was another call to the desk, waiting an hour for a repairman that didn't show and another trip to the front desk. It was fixed shortly after we got back from dinner. The resort did send us a bottle of champagne and fresh fruit the next night. The rest of the resort was wonderful, but we felt like we wasted a night and part of another night dealing with problems that the resort didn't take too seriously.

Swamp
HiNic, Birmingham

If you like a beach holiday & being able to swim in the sea DO NOT COME HERE!! We go in holiday to relax on the beach and swim in clear water, absolutely no chance of that here the sea is a dirty brown stinking swamp which totally ruined our holiday. Now I understand this is not the hotels fault but the false advertising by the travel companies should be addressed. Hotel We were met with drinks which was refreshing after a long journey & check in was swift. We were allocated a room on the top floor of block 42, lovely room if a little dated good view out to the spa & great air con although water to this room was an issue, when you come in at the end of the day to get ready for the evening a shower is definitely required, not alway possible here the water was very intermittent sometimes enough for one person to shower sometimes both, occasionally hot water but mostly cold & often just a dribble of water, we were offered a room change but had heard of so many other people with the same issues that were just getting moved from room to room we decided to accept a refund offered & take pot luck as to what time we could shower each day. Most of the staff were lovely always smiling & didn’t need tipping to get good service from although we did tip when we got good service anyway but it wasn’t necessary, try to speak a little Spanish to them as it is appreciated even if it’s only Hola & gracias. The food in most of the restaurants are really good but the Italian is awful just don’t go there. The bars are pleasant & relaxing, the beach bar is lovely for a cocktail, the resort could just do with a little more evening entertainment as it all finishes at 10pm which for an adult only resort is ridiculous & the family side is chaos. Also the little coffee shop in the shopping area is great. So overall the hotel is good more 3.5-4 star rather than 5 but if you like a beach holiday rather than pool don’t go here.

Great resort!

I’ve been to Punta Cana a few times, last time here was summer of 2016. First time staying at this resort. I strongly recommend to stay at a different resort. I’ll start off with the cons followed by the pros. I had a party of 6 staying at this resort from July 7th-14th. Our party required 3 different room which of the rooms needed 2 beds. So at check in we made it known we wanted the rooms close to each other and 2 beds in 2 of the rooms, which the receptionist agreed to give us. After waiting for about 2 hours we finally got our rooms but none of the requirements were given. None of the rooms were close to each other and only one bed in the rooms. The ac didn’t work and of course no hot water. We complained to the front desk so they offered us a free upgrade to the royal side under the condition that we check out on Friday and go back to the regular side, which was since we were leaving the next day in the morning. They gave us all 3 rooms next to each other but again only one bed in the room after we requested 2 beds. And to top it off, my room was never cleaned. I opened the door and the room was a mess. Soda and water bottles everywhere, plates of food on the bed. Dirty bed sheets and towels on the floor. Took housekeeping almost 2 hours to clean the room and put a second bed in the room. Still had no hot water and the toilet didn’t flush. No one came to fix it. Did it myself. Couldn’t use the ac on high or medium at night bc of the loud noise it would make. The ceiling in the bathroom looked like was going to fall through at any moment. Loose tiles in the shower which is tiny. No room to move around. Couldn’t use the balcony bc there was construction right outside my room. After complaining so much, one would figure that the resort would at least let us stay the extra day instead of packing a day early and moving back to the other side. But of course not. We spoke to them early Thursday morning about letting us stay in royal side until Saturday morning. They told us the only way we could stay is if we pay for the upgrade which was $50 per person per night. I said no that’s ridiculous. I tried again early Friday morning but this time we were giving a different story. They said we had to leave bc those rooms were booked in advance and needed the rooms by today. I called her out on her lies. Why were you offering us to stay a day before if we pay but a day later your story changes. We had no choice but to pack and move to the other side which was horrible. We lost all of privileges which included access to all the restaurants and bars and pools. Our rooms again were horrible. Only one bed. The toilet was broken, the fan didn’t work. The ac barely worked. No hot water. The water pressure was very bad. Very one who worked at the front desk had an attitude and was nasty. The beach water was literally brown, not the resorts fault but they did a bad job at cleaning the seaweed off the sand. And for the food, you’re better off eating at the buffet bc at the food was hot. We ate a few restaurants and for some reason the food never came out hot. Now for some pros. Being that me and family are Dominicans, we connected with staff that helps keep the resort running. We made friends with bartenders, waiters, cleaners, housekeepers, Gardners, chefs. We even spent one night with the entire kitchen staff until 5am listening to music and telling funny stories. They definitely made us feel like family and at home. The grounds of the resort are beautiful and well kept.

Great all inclusive hotel

We spent two weeks here and were extremely happy. The hotel and grounds are kept immaculately clean. There were about seven restaurants split between the family and adult side which offered a good selection of quality food. There were two restaurants that long trousers were required for gentlemen, the Thalassa and the Tapas. Everywhere else accepted casual shorts and closed toe footwear. Personally, I thought the vegetarian restaurant did the tastiest food and it was well presented. WiFi was free, reliable and easy to pick up from most areas within the hotel for keeping up with news and social media. All staff we came into contact with were friendly and genuinely seemed like they wanted to help. We did tip but, as we are British, only after we received good service. At no time did we feel like staff were fishing for tips. We took US $ and Dominican pesos but spent only $. (Reception will change a $10 note for change for tips) We didn’t have any issues with our room that some people report on here. Somethings you may like to know before you book but is out of there control of the hotel: • There isn’t any where to walk to out side of he hotel (shops etc) • This time of year there is a lot of seaweed on the beach rendering the sea a bit unpleasant. On this note, the hotel can’t control this any more than they can control the weather. Some people struggled to comprehend this. If you want a clean hotel for a relaxing all inclusive holiday by the pool with good food I would recommend this one.

Can’t wait to return

My wife and I went to this resort for our honeymoon we loved the adults only aspect of the resort and loved that we were able to also use the non adults only side. The food was amazing we ate at the À la cart restaurants everyday. We spent most of our time in the swim up bar where they played music all day and the drinks were terrific. We hope to return soon.
