Poolside staff lead games were too loud and too long. You could hear it on the beach so it was not relaxing for me.

Nice place although they had lots of construction going on. I feel like I should have been made aware of this and moved to a different villa. Long waits at some of the restaurants, but the food is all good so it was worth the wait. Clean beaches although there is a lot of seaweed (that does get cleaned up in the morning). Make sure you bring water shoes to get in the ocean as it is very rocky for the first 50ft or so. Overall would go again and recommend when they are not doing major construction.

Pleasant Stay with a Beautiful Beach

The resort was conveinently located in the Puerto Adventuras area which offers a multitude of activities, wildlife, and activities. The resort was just a short walk away from the l;little village, shopping area and the Dolphin Experience, which was really cool. The beach and reef just steps off the beach were amazing. We spent numerous hours snorkeling with the snorkels we brought ourselves. We ran across, rays, puffer fish, barracudas, star fish and an array of unique sea life. The beach and reef alone were worth the whole price of the stay. Just walking around the resort daily we also came across, Spider monkeys, plenty of geckos, iguanas, and other interesting creatures and plants. The rooms were good and clean, food and restaurant options were awesome, We spent 6 nights and never ran out of different delectable options to dine on. The excursions we took we also fantastic! Puerto Adventuras is just a 20 minute taxi ride from all of the shopping and amentities of Playa del Carmen. The transfers were quick, staff all very polite and a very accommodating Apple Vacations representative at the hotel every day! I was once again VERY VERY happy with all of Apple Vacations staff, booking process, and total package value! I definitely recommend the Catalonia Resort and Apple Vacations!

Our family of four traveled to Catalonia for 7 days and had a great time! The staff was so welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed all of the restaurants and buffets. The entertainment staff was excellent and the kids were never bored. The only downside is there is not much of a beach but it was swimmable for the kids and there were quite a few fish we saw while snorkeling. Highly recommend this resort and we will definitely be back!

The theater was too hot to stand--we went to one live performance, and they were good, but the heat was too much. It seemed everyone was expecting a tip all teh time. The beach was very rocky into and out of the water. The "mercado" wa horrible! We had to run the gauntlet every night to get to dinner. The vendors were aggressive, even following after you! When we didn't stop to look, a vendor insulted us saying "You don't like Mexicans!" We did not expect so many opportunities to be parted from our money on top of the cost of the trip.

The resort was comfortable and the staff was good. We enjoyed our stay but won't be back. It wasn't quite what we are used to but seemed to be a great place for families and large groups.

The staff are fantastic! Very nice, very friendly. There are a couple of things to point out before you book your stay: 1. There is a beach, but the sand does not go into the water. Once in the water the bottom is very rocky. 2. You will get harassed to go to a presentation on how to become an Elite member at least twice a day. 3. Food is excellent, sooooo many choices you will love the food. 4. The staff is extremely friendly and very pleasant to talk to. 5. Dive shop is very nice, knowledgeable and tons of great diving very close. Some you can walk right to the marina and hop on the boat. Less than 5 min walk. 6. There is a small community called Adventurs Plya with a few resorts, shopping, condos and homes. You can ride the free bikes all over the little community. 7. The resort and grounds are immaculate! They keep it extremely nice and clean. 8. Apple will not tell you (not sure why...) when you arrive in Cancun you will go through customs, then get your luggage, then you need to go outside the airport to find out what bus or van to get on. There are people in the airport that look like they are there to help you, but they just wan to waste a bunch of your time trying to sell you excursion packages. Keep walking to go outside and find someone in an apple shirt and ask them what bus or van to get on.

Amazing Mexico family vacation!!!

The resort was incredible!!! The staff were super amazing and very friendly and entertaining. I loved all the food selections and they even had gluten free options. There are so many restaurants and even 5 pools. The mini club (Staff Erik stood out and made my son comfortable there) and evening entertainment was above expectations. I loved the options of the two beach areas and lagoon. Great location near all the attractions. The only negative would be that the beds are not very comfortable. I would highly recommend this resort to family and friends and would go back in a heart beat. Thanks for the amazing family vacation.

I arrived at the Catalonia Rivera Maya last week, I went into the Japanese restaurant tonight (17/01/3018) I arrived at the restaurant at 6:15 and went to into the restaurant to ask to put my name down for a table and was told that the restaurant opened at 6:15 I waited outside and as the doors opened I went into the queue an American woman began to kick off and told the reservation woman that I had pushed the queue even tho I had been in the queue for 15 minutes, I then had to wait over an hour and 20 minutes to be seated for my meal, this is absolutely unreasonable as I had not done anything wrong and this American woman clearly had an issue with her children misbehaving to have such a stuck in the mud attitude towards me and my mother, I wouldn't have wanted to sit next to 5/10 screaming children anyways but regardless I was made to wait over an hour without the reservation woman hearing my side of the story. I had really enjoyed my meal the previous week do this was very upsetting to me and my mother but we bit our tounges for the sake of being respectful woman. I would recommend this restaurant as my favorite of the restaurant to offer at the hotel but I will not be returning again due to the pettiness of this American woman

Pick another place.

Was a pretty nice stay until a hotel excursion abandoned us in a local town. When contacting the resort, they assumed we were late for the pick up but that was not the case. They said to try to find a cab. No reimbursement for cab and because it was booked thru a separate company (that company has a desk in their lobby btw) they would not stand behind the promises of the excursion. Seperate incident on another night, turn down service entered our room without knocking while we were preparing for dinner which made us uncomfortable for the rest of the trip. Front desk just had us fill out a form and said that turn down service can enter the room with out being invited in. Bartenders, waitstaff, housecleaning were all stellar. Toribo, Antonin, and Angel gave great service at the bars. But considering the issues we had I would recommend picking from hundreds of other resorts in the area.

Good, solid resort for families and young people

We came back from Catalonia a week and a half ago after spending a lovely week including the New Year's Eve with our relatives from Europe. This was our sixth time on the Riviera Maya, spent in six different resorts of different sizes. Now, Catalonia is a resort perfect for people looking for compact grounds where things are close to one other and there is no need (or possibility) to walk more than a few minutes at a time. Great for those who are satisfied with small area of shallow but beautiful and clean water, clean but restricted at both ends (you have about 100 yards to walk along the water) sandy beach. Good for those who want a lot of different activities throughout the day and who don't mind that some of those activities produce a lot of noise blasting from the loudspeakers located right by the main pool and next to the sunbathing area along the beach. Great for those who enjoy the food that's super-abundant, always available, but of average (even in the 4 a la carte restaurants) quality. Good for those who like to have the unlimited amounts of alcohol, again not the best quality but almost always available. For starters let me point out a few major positives, no matter what your expectations are. (1) The resort is located within a secure area of Puerto Aventuras consisting of several resorts, private condominiums and haciendas, various little stores and restaurants, and even a dolphin/manatee/tarpon fish sanctuary. The area feels safe and comfortable as everything is within walking distance. (2) the staff was nice. Vast majority greeting you always with a smile and saying ola! (3) The resort which is actually joined with a sister resort Catalonia Yucatan Beach (both share the beach, pools, restaurants and activities), is designed quite nicely considering pretty tight quarters. It's aesthetically pleasing and quite functional. (4) Our accommodations, a suite in building #8 were very, very nice. Spacious, nicely furnished, clean and pretty. Big bathroom area, nice shower, very comfortable bed, nice terrace with a tub (which we didn't have a chance to use, unfortunately). (5) The New Year's Eve dinner at the steak house was very good. The best meal we had during our stay on the grounds of the resort. Very nicely done with great variety of foods, most of the ones we tried delicious. Now about the negatives. (1) It was irritating that many of the amenities as well as the a la carte dining was there but you had to fight very hard for it. Most things (bikes, kayaks, catamaran rides) were in short supply so you had to be very lucky and patient to have a chance to use it when you wanted to. Same with the restaurants. All four were first come - first serve rule. Unless you were willing to show up at least half an hour before they opened at 6:30pm you would not have a chance to eat there before 9pm or so. The beach chairs around the pool - forget about them. There was a group of 28 people with small children from Europe that would have someone claim them early, making it almost impossible to get one of the remaining ones. Unless you were willing to show up at dawn to claim. Even if it wasn't for that group there were many other highly motivated early risers who would come early and block the chairs. Similar situation along the beach. Despite the signs all over the beach advising not to "reserve" the beach chairs, people were doing it all the time, throwing towels or other objects on them at an early hour, not leaving any chance for others. As a result you would always see many empty chairs while you were looking for one, but they were already "claimed". It's unfortunate the resort doesn't do any better to stop this. I guess more chairs would be one solution. (2) Another irritating thing is the system that they have dividing the guest into 3 categories: regular (you wear a blue bracelet while you are there), privileged (yellow bracelet), and exclusive. I understand you have a different type of accommodations in the resort for which people pay different amount of money. But why do you you have to make the division so obvious. Privileged/exclusive people have certain tables in buffet restaurants for them with a "Reserved" tag on the table, there are some beach chairs/beds in the area roped off for the exclusive, there is is a separate lounge, even the color of beach towels is different (blue for blue bracelet people and striped white/brown for privileged/exclusive)!!! We've never seen it in any other resort. We didn't like it at all, this "vacation separatism" although we were in the privileged category which we hadn't known at the time of making our reservations.

Fantastic holiday

We stayed here for 2 weeks Jan 3rd - 17th . I literally don't have a bad word to say about this hotel. We upgraded with Tui into the honeymoon package and I have to say it was worth every penny. The room was amazing, the comfiest and biggest bed I've slept in. Exceptionally clean, turn down surface was a nice touch. Bottle of champagne with chocolates and fruit on arrival, mini bar restocked every day , room service and outside plunge pool. The food was fabulous , especially Beloved it was first class. Every restaurant served wonderful freshly cooked food. The service by all members of staff was the same in every area, excellent training has been given to all the staff. Exceptionally clean in all areas, there is always someone cleaning around the resort. Entertainment staff were always trying to get people involved but not pushy and the evening entertainment was outstanding, very, very professional especially lion king . The beach is beautiful, fabulous snorkelling, free 20 minute cataraman ride, from Kiosk Karlos( not his name) but very seriously funny guy. We did a Tulum tour with Nico from the Prodive little hut near the beach , he is fab and it was an incredible tour. The little walk or free hire of bikes into Puerto Aventuras is so worth doing, beautiful port with little shops, you get to see the dolphins and seals which are kept in lovely areas and are serioulsy looked after. It has been an outstanding holiday for us and I will recommend if you want a chilled out, beautifully clean hotel with amazing staff and wonderful food then this is the place for you. Thank you , we have loved every minute of our 2 week stay.
