A relaxing stay at the Catalonia Riviera Maya
MICHAEL G.

We had a wonderful time at this resort. The staff and services were great. Upgrading to the Priveleged Package gave us a lot more benefits and some exclusive benefits like the Pure Chill Bar, pool, and beach areas as well as the B Loved organic food restaurant. A week was just not enough to take advantage of all that this resort has to offer. We would definitely stay here again!

my friend and I selected this as it fit the timeline we needed, and was in a price that we could afford. I’ve been to other all-inclusive‘s in this area, and this one was OK. You were allowed to go to a sit down dinner twice if you were there for at least 3 to 4 nights, buffet was OK but it got boring. At one point in time our key cards didn’t work and I lock it was 11 o’clock at night and it took four times going up to the front office to get someone who knew what the heck to do to get us in the war room which included changing the batteries in our door. The drinks were OK, however if you wanted certain upgraded things and certain services you need to pay for privilege which we did not. The beach was heavily overran by seaweed, that the hotel tried to keep up on. If the hotel invested in a John Deere tractor and some other attachments they would be able to clear the sea weed a lot quicker than people shoveling with a pitchfork into a plastic bag. We chose the group transportation that comes with Apple vacations, which on our last day made us leave for an a half hours before plane flight if the hotel invested in a John Deere tractor and some other attachments they would be able to clear the sea weed a lot quicker than people shoveling with the pitchfork into a plastic bag. The hotel was clean and we had no room issues. I did overhear numerous others having room/shower issues. The biggest downfall was the food. It was the same buffet every day. There was no variety in the food choices. It was the same food every day. I liked that the la cart restaurants did not need reservations and their food there was good. I wouldn't stay here again due to the food. the rest of the resort was fine.

Enjoyed a quick visit. The rooms were mediocre compared to the rest of the facility. They could definitely use upgrades/repairs. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Didn't have any issue with finding chairs either by the pool or beach. The food was delicious.

Not sure why the hotel was short on washclothes which made it difficult to clean your face, etc. Appreciated that the loud music stopped at 11:30 pm each night -- very annoying when trying to sleep. TV coverage (in English) on NBC switched back and forth between Florida and Pennsylvania stations ???

This was a 4-star resort, and I'd say that's accurate. The bar staff and servers were certainly 5-star. Refilled drinks before they could get empty.

Nice place although they had lots of construction going on. I feel like I should have been made aware of this and moved to a different villa. Long waits at some of the restaurants, but the food is all good so it was worth the wait. Clean beaches although there is a lot of seaweed (that does get cleaned up in the morning). Make sure you bring water shoes to get in the ocean as it is very rocky for the first 50ft or so. Overall would go again and recommend when they are not doing major construction.

Lovely location & staff. Changed 1st room with no view to a spacious room with a huge comfy bed & a great view. Excellent range of food & drinks. However wines pretty grim, specialist restaurants were not much better than the buffet. The Japanese restaurant was a good experience. Beach & pool beds were towel reserved early but we coped. Beware timeshare salesmen!

Overall it was a great stay. I would recommend this resort to anyone unless you were big on the beach. The beach area is okay but not the best I've seen. The resort in a gated community which made me feel more safe. Myself along with other members of my party ventured off our resort in the the gated community and had a great time. Food/Drinks The buffets were great but the breakfast became a little repetitive. the special restaurants were all pretty great but i would recommend the steak house. They do not take any reservations which could be a problem for some people. They also do not accommodate to larger parties very well. All bars I went to were great, good variety as well. Room/Grounds My room was average, what you would expect from any kind of resort. My Maid was great and had no issue. I would say my bed was to hard/firm for my taste. The resort was maintained very well and looked very pretty. Where ever I went there was someone cleaning/gardening/fixing things that need to be fixed. Pool I only really stayed in the one pool by the main entrance/with bar the whole time. The pools seems really clean. The pools are on the warmer side which i great when you first get in but feel like a bath after a while. My pool bar was great and shout out to Pedro and Manual for being great bartenders. Entertainment/Club The entertainment was average. Again I only stayed in the one area so there could have been better entertainment around the other pools. I would have enjoyed more music. They had a beach

The Good – Getting upgraded to the Privilege amenities, complements of being a repeated Expedia customer. Our room, 7011 was in a great location near the pools, eating areas and activities. The room was modern & air conditioning worked very well. The refrigerator was cold and promptly replenished as needed. The food was good with a lot of selection options. Food could also be taken out of the eating areas to the beach or your room. The majority of the staff were friendly & prompt with attending to requests. The beach area was great for swimming. The water was calm and I really enjoyed snorkeling right at the resort. Areas for improvement- Allow only 1 towel per person and inforce it with the card system. Many times we asked for additional towels and were accommodated without having to provide an additional card. With lounge chairs being “saved”, one could easily have a towel on a lounge by the pool and one on a lounge by the beach and go back and forth throughout the day. It would be interesting to see if this would free up some of the much needed loungers. And some people might not be as careless leaving them sit if they’re being held financially accountable for their return. The evening activities should be earlier. It’s a family resort & 9:30pm shows gets to be a little late for some younger an older people. It would have also been nice if craft activities were offered (i.e. ceramic painting) even if at an additional cost. Overall my husband and I really enjoyed this resort and would love to return again someday!

Beautiful pools and beaches with lots of activities and a great atmosphere.

Beautiful pools and beaches with lots of activities and a great atmosphere. The food was fantastic - both in the main cafeterias and the themed restaurants. Excellent selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, cheeses, and breads with some extra dishes that were very good. The grill was always going and available for custom omelettes in the morning or a selection of meats for lunch or dinner. The beer options were Corona Lite or Extra and Modelo. The tequila was really good and the frozen drinks were fantastic. The room was a bit dated with only a couple power outlets, but other than sleeping (in the very comfortable bed) we barely spent any time in the there. The chairs by the pool were very comfortable as well, but my favorite was snorkeling or paddling around the lagoon. The activity staff also puts on plenty of fun activities and games around the pool and on the beach. Lots of fun for the kids or the drunk parents/grandparents. My only two complaints are: 1) The whiskey - all of the standard ones were the worst jet fuel I've ever had passed off as whiskey, and somehow Jack Daniels is considered

Not a typical Caribbean beach, bad waiter service

Check in went very well. The hotel itself was not what we have expected - food was repetitive, expected more seafood dishes, more Mexican dishes, frozen meet was placed on a grill to be cooked, guacamole was often frozen. However, enjoyed fresh fruits very much also breakfast chef was making tasty omelets. Waiter service at the buffet restaurant was far below expectations (used plates were not taken away so by the time we finished having our desert we had starter and main plates still on our table, also all the other tables looked overloaded with dirty plates - specially at breakfast time. Drinks were not offered on all meal times). Wi-fi was not provided for more than 7 days (with a teenager was a struggle). Mexican restaurant was really nice with delicious food, great service and atmosphere. Japanese restaurant was never available and had far too long q to get a table. Requested a quiet room (emailed few weeks before arriving) - never got it even after seeing guest service team (the staff was so loud by emptying cupboards next to our room, moving trolleys early in the mornings and late in the evenings, music was played very loudly in the evenings). If we were successful to change our room then we would be made to wait from 11am till 3pm (unbearable heat at this time) with our all staff waiting for the room to be ready. At the end we were offered a room however, when we checked it, it was the same direction to the noise as ours just added a road close to the room terrace. So refused it to avoid even more disappointment. AC was very load. The room was OK with comfortable beds, and enough space. The maid was doing a great job by cleaning our room and making sure we had enough water bottles, toiletries, always polite and friendly. Hotel offered travel agency service. We used Destination Services for our 5 trips. We were delighted with friendly staff, service and information provided. The beach view was spoiled by the things built for the waves not to crash on the beach, which for a beach lover was not really nice. It did not show on a hotel website pictures provided. The beach was full of seaweed which was not collected as often as required to be a clean beach (only once in two days or if lucky once a day). We had to reserve the lounges at the beach, even it had a sign not allowing to do so, by 6:15am otherwise there were not enough lounges under the shade. All the lounges were reserved however, not many people were using them - frustrating. The grounds we
