Continued excellent standard of facilities and service

My husband and I visited for the 11th time in January and were again cared for in an exemplary way. The staff as always are always friendly and efficient and go out of their way to help you make the best of your holiday. There are too many to mention but some who made the holiday memorable were Gregorio, Nazario and Alan in the Margaritas bar, Guadalupe, Esther and Deyanira in La Brisa, Evely was wonderful working extremely hard all over the hotel, Jorje and Ricardo in Bella Vista and Pablo and his excellent staff in Bambeleo both in the day and evening. Cinthya is an excellent guest services manager and did so much for us when we were there ably assisted by Alix and VIctoria although I was surprised and saddened to find that Javier left a couple of days after we arrived! His work and dedication to the guests is a great loss to the hotel and he couldn't do enough for us when we visited last September. Averly could not do enough for us while we were there and she is an asset to Catalonia group. The hotel continues to make improvements in all areas. It is nice to see the beach back to earlier years with much work obviously done to improve this. No seaweed this time! There is continuing improvements in food quality with some excellent dishes in Bella vIsta and Bamboleo. I used the spa twice this visit and had great standard of massage by Gladys and Jamie. Last but not least I think these are improvements are directly a result of a great management oversight by Silvia, Gonzalo, Fabio and Fabio, Cinthya, Averly, and the new managers of food and beverages Elena? There are many more who make this hotel great, too many to mention by name but all work hard to make this hotel great! We have already booked for another visit in September this year and it's like going home! We had an amazing trip made extra special by many old friends ( you know who you are) and brilliant service. Thanks to everyone of you. Sue and Pete More>

Nice resort / Excellent service

We visited as two couples the end of January. We upgraded to privileged status. The rooms were nice but small. We had an ocean-view room in bldg. 6. It was quiet except for slamming doors. The Chill Out bar which is part of the privilege status and service at the bar were excellent! The food in the privilege buffet was comparable to the main buffet, but was much more quiet. Service here was great as well. They will go get you a cappuccino if you ask. Bloody Mary & Mimosa bar when you walk in! We were unable to visit the Italian restaurant or the steak house due to capacity issues. The Japanese restaurant was fantastic! Mexican was good. They close one restaurant each night - not a great idea when you have a 1 1/2 - 2 hour wait for dinner!! That was our biggest issue with the resort. The resort is not massive, which we like. 2 swim-up bars as you can use the facilities in both the resorts. Not an issue getting chairs in the privilege area on the beach or by the pools. The sports bar was a joke. Very small. During football playoffs - when the game started at 3:30 - they told us they didn't open until 5:00. Well - we went and found another server to assist us until they opened. More>

Outstanding Staff

The hotel was beautiful. It was great to see how much maintenance they do to keep it pretty, especially landscaping. But what made the difference was the staff. Our favorite place to hang out was the pool bar. Alan, Gregorio and Nazario made our stay SO much better. So friendly, so respectful and FUN! Special thanks to Alan for spending the time to show us where the Futbolito table was. We were so excited to find a Mexican style table and we loved it!!! Gracias Alan!!! We went to the Japanese restaurant the last night, and the bartender Alberto also made our dinner MUCH better. Thank you!!! Only one negative experience with staff. We left a bag pack at the Restaurant La Brisa. When we realized we forgot it, we came back and they told us that the back pack was at the "Privilege" booth near by. We approached Alexi (French gal) and she said it wasn't there and she didn't know where it was. She told us to go back the next day. (What?) We came back to La Brisa and Nelly helped us right away. Thank you Nelly! Overall, we had a great experience. We would come back for sure given the fact that the staff was so great to us. Thank you!!! More>

Fantastic Family Vacation and Review of Kids Club
MasterSleuth, London, Canada

We stayed at the Catalonia Riviera Maya with our five-year-old twins for two weeks in January. The kids club is SPECTACULAR. On our second day Miss Ita and Miss Ariana, like Pied Pipers, marched through the hotel grounds meeting all the children and telling them what they could expect at kids club. Though my kids have never voluntarily gone to a resort kids club in the past, this time, they were charmed. From that day forward, they went to kids club for some or all of each day, or even just joined them for lunch or a visit to their excellent and partially shady playground. They made friends with the other kids and felt very independent. It added a dimension to their trip that was unexpected, and to ours: for the first time in five years, my partner and I had some time on our own. Some of the activities: The girls dressed up like pirates and paraded through the grounds practicing their “ARRRs!” Whacked several pinatas with increasing ferocity over the two weeks Went on forays to the beach to collect sea shells and then made them into necklaces Went to the secret home of the iguanas and (I think) fed the iguanas. Planted wee trees on Environment / Earth Day. Went back to check on their trees' growth each evening. Played games and had drawing competitions during the brief rain spells. Made very sparkly crafts. Had their faces painted. Swam daily in the pool with the kids' club pool toys. (wearing water wings since they can't swim) Had an after-dark beach party with dancing in the sand. Went to “The Show” each night and got up on stage for dancing and games. The kids club have a set schedule that includes activities, swimming, lunch, rest time and then more activities. This routine made it easy to drop in for the parts we wanted and know where to collect the girls when we were off to do something as a family. The kids club staff are absolute professionals. I felt the kids were 100% safe, and more. They were cared for as I'd care for them. Ita and Ariana were sensitive to everything from sun hats and sunscreen to water safety for non-swimmers to making sure they ate enough for lunch, to acknowledging the importance of band-aids for booboos. Thanks to Ita and Ariana for an excellent experience that we will never forget. In another area of the hotel, one day my daughter lost her lovey and later that evening Luis from the restaurant knocked on our door with a McGuiver'd faux-lovey. It worked, and SAVED the day. That was an incredibly thoughtful thing to do. This company has been ranked one of the best companies to work for in Mexico, and it shows in these little impromtu flourishes. A couple of non-kids-related notes: - we upgraded to a suite and it MADE the trip. It was beautiful, newly built, twice the size as a regular room and has a separate living room, huge dressing room and double-size balcony. Worth every penny. The food and food handling are excellent. The wifi is fast and direct calls from the room cheap. More>
