we had an issues with 2 cockroaches found in our room and the hotel spraying insecticide 3 times in our room. After the third time we asked to change rooms. We did not have any issues after that. We like the hotel, the pool and beach were great. The hotel staff were friendly. We had the one issue but it would not stop us from returning. The hotel is in a VERY SAFE area which means a lot to me.

This was the absolute worse possible choice for vacation. I would never recommend any part of this resort to anyone. Beach sucked, feel better at lake Erie then at the ocean here. Bare minimal workers speak English, the food holy crap I would not trust feeding my dogs the food, they fail to tell you you need reservations to eat so your stuck eating crap. No drink you order is ever right, and if they make something decent they can't make it again. You can order the same drink 10 times and all 10 will be different. The bed was a rock from the beach is seemed like, the blanket was the seaweed, Lord knows there's more then enough of it. My wife hurt her ankle cause one of the hotel employees were impatient, a security guard, she slipped and the rest of the Vacation it was more then swollen and in pain so we we're limited to acitivities, you'd think the employee would ask if she's okay, nope not here, he said "eh, doctor is 150 American over there" and kept walking. The pools are freezing cold, you think jumping in is refreshing from the warm weather , no it's torture, so you regret it instantly. It's sad when it was our second day and we're calling trying g to get sooner flights home and counting down the days till we left. This place is so boring and nothing to do we were sleeping by 9pm! Oh when we could cause the maids are banging the bins and everything possible all night and all morning. I will never, ever even think of Catalonia or ever even send my worst enemy there. I wouldn't ever return there even if it was free! Unfortunately I had an awesome experience with apple for our honeymoon but this time I am beyond disappointed that who knows if I'll give you my business down the road.

The service wasn't the best. Had to switch rooms 2 times because of various issues. The food was the same everynight. The beach was terrible. Lots of rocks, jelly fish, and not very swimmer friendly. Also not very many beach chairs available. Was given a lot of misinformation. Will not ever return to this resort or affiliated resorts.

The rooms, the lobby, the restaurants, the pools, the bars, the beach, all fantastic. The warm, friendly atmosphere made our group feel at home. The food was really good as was the pools...fantastic pools and the service was absolutely without question the best around. Yes, I would definitely recommend this resort.

It was a long waited vacation. After having woken up early and traveled throughout the day, it was nice to walk up to the hotel and have a champagne glass of sweet delicious juice as I checked in. The people at the front desk was super friendly. The downfall was, we really wanted to get to our room, but they had their hotel vacation club people do a 10 minute presentation. We had a wonderful time at Catalonia. We spent most of the time at the pool and snorkeled a little bit, but it was a little difficult to snorkel with all the seaweed that was on the shore. The seaweed covered the beach and also made it smell, but if you could look past that, it was a nice beach.

rooms had tiny bugs in it. A lot of bars were closed after midnight. Pools were warm but it was so hot it felt like sitting in a hot tub in 90 degree weather. Beach was AWFUL full of seaweed. You need vouchers to get into the restaurant yet it's supposed to be all inclusive. No were to walk off the resort and explore. Food was not too bad except one spot. Staff was rude and not accommodating.

This was our first time traveling with Apple vacation. I feel that we were not given all information needed for our trip. For instance, when booking this trip we were under the impression that we would have 1/2 a day when we arrived and sum of the morning for a more relaxed leaving time. Since our resort was an hour a way from the airport, we lost time as we initially were boarded on a minivan waiting in the parking lot for a good 20 minutes to be shuttles lastly to our resort. The shuttle made multiple stops prior to ours. So after a very long travel day, were extremely tired when we finally arrived and were told we had to meet with someone regarding our return shuttle. After checking in and losing an entire day, pools at the resort closed early. UGH!! We were accommodated very nicely to celebrate our anniversary by the resort (a definite plus). The food was not impressive as we did upgrade to the privileged guests. Lastly, were instructed to leave 4 hours early for shuttle and airport entry, another 1/2 a day. We were simply disappointed with Apple as they didn't even mention either scenario. This is their expertise! Something we will have to consider when we decide on our next get away. Sorry apple vacation...... We were really expecting more!

The property is not brand new. The rooms are updated and the grounds are beautiful. The walkways is what gives the age away. The facilities are immaculate, the service great and the food from any restaurant there exceeded my expectations.

All and all you get what you pay for. The rooms where basic, wish they had a mini bar. The grounds are beautiful and the pools where perfect. The beach was perfect for my family because we like to snorkel, although, the seaweed was a bit of a drag. Our biggest complaint is the food. Not a lot of variety, dull and the restaurants don't offer the variety and amount we've had had other resorts. Many other resorts allow you to order whatever you would like, not Catalonia, one appetizer, entree and dessert. If you order off of the children's menu you forfeit anything on the adult menu. Our second complaint would be the rowdiness that ensued in the pool bars. We witnessed a fist fight and screaming match that last an hour! Hotel staff wasn't sure how to handle it and it definitely spoke to the customers you get at this low price point. Good vacation for my family but can't say we will return or recommend to our friends.

10th visit

We recently returned from our 10th visit to the CAT and enjoyed every minute once again! Great to see some of our favorite friends are still there after all these years. Everything was top notch as always. Employees are the biggest asset the hotel has always friendly and polite with big smiles , and truly sincere . We love coming here and are always looking forward to the next visit. I just wished that our 10th stay at the hotel meant as much to the CAT as it did to us, never even got a welcome back banner on our door to say the least. Kind of thought they would have acknowledged our continued patronage after 10 times, but nothing at all. We'll still be back for our 11th trip though!!!

Great value and an overall great experience!

Just returned from our fifth visit to this great smaller resort. Once again we were thoroughly impressed by the service, hospitality, and condition of the entire resort. We have stayed as a privileged guest each time so our ability to get into the tapa restaurants, privileged rooms and enjoy the top shelf liquors definitely helps to make the vacation much more fun. This visit we totally loved BLoved for dinner and the lunch choices were absolutely delicious. The ceviche is probably the best I have ever had and the service is spectacular. Special call out to Samuel!!! We also ate at the Mexican restaurant for the first time where I believe we had Joel. The food was very good which we were a little concerned about coming in as reviews were not the greatest. The appetizer of tortilla chips with a beef (or pork? I cannot recall) was delicious and had a great pepper on it too. Yum! At La Brisa, you get a great breakfast with all the open air feel. It can get busy, but they do a great job keeping it stocked. The omelette line can get long, but the chefs there make a great one, so at times it is worth the wait, but I prefer to get a variety of food so a big omelette takes up to much space and is filling... If you get the chance, ask for Esther! She is the absolute best and has been there for years. Love her!!! El Mercado is the indoor buffet and on the hotter days it is a great place to grab your food. I feel like the lunch selection there has more options and you cannot go wrong ordering fresh grilled grouper, mahi, salmon, etc... it was cooked to perfection with just salt and some butter on the grill right in front of you. We tried the creperie one afternoon and it was delicious too. The sausage food truck smelled delicious, but we did not try it... The entertainment staff worked hard and were not over the top. Music levels around the pool was actually lower than I recall (would have preferred a little louder and fun, but it was relaxing having it only once in a while... I know strange review, but wasn't sure how to state that I woul dhave liked louder music, but enjoyed the peace at the same time... LOL)... The first of two down checks I would give is to the Disney show. It was quite painful at well over an hour... We enjoyed the Moulin Rouge show and the Las Vegas show was the better of the 3... Most the entertainers were very enthusiastic and were very good doing their lip sync, but a few were quite emotionless (yes, I know they work all day, but a little enthusiasm would have been nice... note: it was the same 2 girls on each of the 3 nights so it was not just a bad day). The room was always cleaned very well by the staff, the grounds still look amazing, and the maintenance staff work their backsides off trying to keep up with the seaweed. Yes, it is bad, but there were plenty of areas to enter the water without it and the water was crystal clear with plenty of fish to see. The second down check was some of the self-centered guests who were at the resort. Yes, it says do not save chairs, but everyone is doing it and most guests get up around 730-8 to get their favorite spots. Most the chairs are full (with people in them) by 10 am. Some self-absorbed guests took it upon themselves to empty chairs and take them instead of asking staff to get chairs for them which resulted in shouting matches in different languages which resulted in one fight and on case of some very upset people... not necessary when the staff is always so helpful about getting chairs. The baggage check guys and welcome staff are great too. Victor was great and always willing to help with anything we needed. Overall, we love this resort and all that it has to offer!

Had a great time! Will go back. Only ran into a couple problems, no hot water in shower but called and was fixed same day. Bought the lobster, was not that good and the steak that went with it was over cooked.. went back next night and had the cheeseburger and it was delicious

Awesome staff, small(er) all-inclusive, worth the money

Trip went off with no problems. Staff was excellent, food at the restaurants was great. Buffet could have used some changing up (was good but just the same every day). Puerto Aventuras is a nice gated community, feels like you are in Florida! Quiet spot, but close enough to Playa del Carmen for some nightlife and shopping. Construction is going on at the condos to the North, and they start promptly at 8:30! Beach is small and you need to fight for spots, some people can be rude about it (I'm looking at you mid 40's american group who angrily chased some older french ladies away who didn't speak much English shame on you). Definitely take the spa in, it is quite relaxing. Overall, it's a smaller hotel than the larger sprawling resorts but with all the same amenities. You get to know the staff pretty good, and it is in a good starting off location for excursions (Xcaret, Coba, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, etc.)

we had a very enjoyable and memorablestay at your hotel. Your staff is particulary very efficient and courteous

Our only concern was lack of ocean activities by not having a normal beach like other resorts. You could consider an alliance with the nearby golf course for guests to get tee times and preferential rates to add another activity to the resort
