Very good resort
SHANNON L.

Rating for the hotel is very good. Rating for Apple not so good. He didn't show up the entire week we were there. We booked our excursion through the hotel rep and the hotel was kind enough to arrange our pick up back to airport since Apple didn't take care of us.

the local service from the Apple Vacations is below expectations. I had to chase them to confirm shuttle availability and departure time.

Nice but too many smokers

If smoking bothers you, I wouldn't recommend this resort. There were ashtrays and smokers everywhere. It was impossible to sit on the beach or walk down the pathway without having smoke blown in your face.

Our vacation was overall great. We had an issue with an excursion scheduled through apple. We were going to book an excursion through the Hotel but the Apple rep booked us an excursion instead. We were never picked up for the much anticipate excursion. After waiting patiently for 45 minutes after our pick up time we went to the Hotel rep who was more than gracious to help track down the Apple rep. After a period of time the rep Apple rep and accused us for being late for the pick up when actually we were early and the excursion was not booked. We found out through another group who booked through Apple that Apple had messed their excursion up too. I was not mad at the mistake because mistakes happen, what was very disappointing was the Apple rep, Victor, who was quick to accuse us even though we were not at fault. We will recommend the resort Cantalonia Maroma, they did a great job, but will not Likely book through Apple again because of the attitude of indifference given to us by the Apple employee. Other than that the trip and resort was nice. Thanks

Great vacation with my grandson...the staff, food, activities, facilities and the beach were fabulous. Friendly, polite staff who would do anything to please you. Great value...I think you have under-rated this hotel...I have stayed at others in the Riviera Maya and this was outstanding from arrival at the airport to our departure. Thank-you! I will be back!

AWESOME TIME!

Our experience at Catalonia Playa Maroma was Excellent! You read mix reviews on everything however we had an exceptional time! We were a group of 4 couples between the ages of 27-38 and had an absolute amazing time! we did upgrade to the privileged area I believe the most beneficial part of having the upgrade is your distance to the pool and beach. There is a pretty good distance between the hotel lobby/main buffet area to the pool and beach area which is where the restaurants are as well and I am very happy we choose to be closer to the pool area. We were in Building 4 and it was in excellent condition the rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. The pool service was amazing! We were tipping our servers and they would bring us new drinks without even asking before we were finished with our others. The first night we arrived there was about 2 feet of seaweed that had washed up on the shore. We did not venture down to the beach until about 6pm that day but the next afternoon when we went to the beach almost all of the seaweed was gone the hotel was working very hard to get rid of it all!! All the workers were very friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Our apple rep Carlos was awesome! He made sure we knew when we had everything and knew when our transportation would be picking us up. The buffet food wasn't bad but the restaurants were very good. Don't expect a thick cut of meat at the steak house or a whole baked potato the meat is very thin and you get a slice of a potato. The Italian was Excellent I had the lasagna and it was amazing! You get a 3 course meal at the restaurants. They have a lunch buffet open from 11a-4p right outside the pool which we took advantage of everyday because we only made it to breakfast 1 morning and it was a lot closer to us then walking to the main buffet. to be honest the main buffet is miserable to eat in! There is no breeze so you are just sitting there in heat. They do their best to keep bugs out but the resort is literally cut right out of the jungle so there will be bugs. Bug spray is a must!! They had an entertainment staff at the pool everyday we did not participate in anything but there were a lot of people who did. This was our first all inclusive vacation and first time out of the country and it was very convenient to have our Apple reps and transportation to take us to and from! I would recommend this resort to anyone traveling to Mexico!

We arrived and this hotel failed to deliver on two of the most important things to me food & comfort!!!! The food was not good and was not fresh. Very bland, how can Mexican food in Mexico not be good? *confused face* The best meal we had during our trip was on an excursion! Also the rooms were uncomfortably hot!!! By the time I was out the shower and dressed, I was a sweaty mess all over again. Then the main bars/buffet were a 1/2 mile walk from our rooms. I was not impressed at all!!!

We loved this hotel! It’s located just about 20 min from airport, very good food, excellent beach, friendly staff. Huge pool with different depth that works for little kids as well as for scuba diving lessons.

Definitely worth the money! My husband and I went for my birthday and our anniversary. The hotel upgraded our room for it which added a nice touch. All the workers are super friendly and will help with whatever they can.

Very nice hotel but they need to tweet the theme restaurants.

Nice Hotel although some rooms still to be renovated.Setting with a kind of jungle walk to the rooms delightful. Slightly disappointed by the themed restaurants but the buffet outstanding and well above the speciality restaurants. Steak house tasteless and the T bone had been trimmed of the fillet, leaving just a sliver. Mexican, which you would have thought to be good was actually very disappointing. Didn't really recognise the Tappas but Japanese probably the best although the Teppanyakki looked very mediocre. Staff throughout superb and probably wanted to offer more but constrained by the system.

So good I am not sure we can vacation elsewhere!

My husband and I hadn't left the kids together in 6 years and since I had lived in Cancun after college, the riviera Maya had once been our go to spot. I spent months researching which area and all inclusive would be our best bet and CPM exceeded our expectations on every level. In fact we might now make this our annual family vacation (or maybe an adult AND a family trip? Is 2 too much? From the moment we got there we were treated like royalty. The privileged upgrade is worth it. Having said that if you don't have a good time at CPM regardless, that may be more about factors beyond the resorts control...the distance from the airport as well as many wonderful day trips is perfect. I speak Spanish and love to get around so we rent a car, but you truly won't have to leave the resort ;) my husband was always bummed when we did! Th e lobby and main buffet are a 5 minute walk through the jungle to your rooms/the beach etc and during the day are covered with adorable wildlife and at night lit up with enchanting Xmas lights...it felt magical! The rooms were spacious with nice terraces and a very attentive staff always stocking the mini bar, towels and keeping th e room spotless. I was also impressed by the food. There is something fi r everyone at the buffets, restaurants a d multiple food trucks and snack bars. The drinks were delicious and the beach one if the nicest and least busy on the riviera these days. We felt totally pampered and relaxed from minute one and the spa and it's services are worth every penny. It was one if the best trips I have ever taken in my life. I would recommend it to couples, families or anyone else looking to bliss out surrounded by an amazing staff and even more beautiful surroundings. We are already planning a trip back!! Thanks to all who helped to make our stay... and my birthday! So special...

TERRIBLE FOOD- decent rooms, beautiful beach & great service

We just returned last night from a 6 night trip at this resort in a privileged superior room. Let me start by saying that I have traveled to many parts of Mexico & stayed at MANY all-inclusive resorts, regular hotels & condos which were great. This was a very last minute trip which we purposely wanted to do on a budget. This resort was well below what we usually spend so I was a little worried. Come to find out I had a right to be worried. Let me start by saying what was good about this place. The resort itself was fine. The grounds were beautiful, the beach & water were pristine except for a couple of days where some seaweed kicked up. This is not the resorts fault, blame mother nature. All you had to do was walk a 100 yards in one direction and there was no seaweed. The room was fine & the bed was comfortable. The drinks were great and the service was excellent. Everyone there was very nice and attentive. Now for the food review: The food was not edible. I should have known we were in trouble when I went to the restroom during our dinner at the Japanese restaurant and the lady in the next stall was vomiting. Guess what, I got VERY sick with both diarrhea and severe vomiting 2 hours after eating at that Japanese restaurant. I could barley make it out of bed the next day. My husband got sick with diarrhea 2 days later and he still has it as do I. He also heard a man in the pool restroom violently vomiting. There is something very WRONG going on here if people are getting sick on their food. Besides the fact that we got sick from the food, the food itself was just awful in all of the restaurants and the buffet wasn't much better. The food was either over cooked or under cooked, had too much salt or no seasoning at all. I saw food not being kept at the proper temperature and even saw a waiter at the buffet drop an entire container of clean silverware on the floor only to pick it up and put it back into the container where the clean silverware was. This means they were giving silverware to people that had been on the floor!!!!! We ended up going to the buffet only to the stations where we could watch them prepare the food in front of us and even that wasn't very good. This food is NOT 4 stars - not even 1 star. This is the first vacation where I've lost weight because the food was so bad! This is a family friendly resort so if you don't want small children next to you at every meal don't stay here. There were a lot of children here, very young children. Also, this resort could use a hot tub by the pool. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone because of how bad the food was. The only reason this trip wasn't totally ruined for us was that the water and the beaches were so nice and the drinks were good!
