Everything was mostly great at the hotel. The only issue we had was with the Amstar agent Sostenes. He was very rude to us when we met with him. He kept calling our room at 8am the day after we arrived. We met with the wrong person originally and he gave us a hard time about it. He complained to us multiple times about wasting his gas money and time to come out.

excursion through Apple rep. was misrepresented. We wanted a trip that was close (20 min.) and it actuall took 20 min. to get to the jonction point where we picked up more sight seers. Then we we drove for 45 more min. to the spot. Driver says they all say "Ya ya all trips close", and sometimes they don't even know how long at all. Also "all inclusive" means all you can drink of the cheepest off brand liquer. it made me sick! EVERY THING ELSE WAS EXCELENT!!!!

I have stayed at many resorts and would have to say I was very disappointed with this resort. The fact that they didnt speak English was impossible to communicate. The food was not what you would expect, was not kid friendly at any means.will not recommend this resort.

The staff are very accommodating and friendly. This was our second time at this hotel. They have done a great deal of upgrading the facilities since our first meeting. Particularly, the restaurants and the pool area. The grounds are lush with trees and bushes. The beach is lovely and quiet. We will return.

This was our first trip to Mexico. We celebrated our 30th Anniversary while there. At the end of the first day, we came back to our room to a bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge and a 30 shaped pastry, fancy dishes and all. That was just the beginning of a perfect week. We enjoyed the walk through the jungle every day, and watching the coatis play. We are at the buffet almost every single meal, because the food and service was exceptional. We paid the extra for privileged, and we loved the beach service and room service provided by that upgrade. Just an absolutely perfect week!

We stayed in a Privledged room. It was worth the extra cost. The Privledged restaurant was moved to an air conditioned space which made for a great break from the heat. The food at the Privledged restaurant was fantastic. Service was a little slow but the waiters were friendly and always had a smile. Overall for all inclusive this is one of the best. Beach and newly surfaced pool with swim up bar were great. Highly recommend this resort.

Complaint
WASSIL W.
Jun 01 2018
Ladies and Gentlemen: This is a complaint regarding my vacation at Catalonia Playa Maroma. I am writing to you also on behalf of the other vacationers. The reasons for the complaints are: 1. The air conditioning did not work in all three rooms as it should work. 2. The key cards for all three rooms did not work properly and it was necessarily to replace the cards for all three rooms many times during the one week stay. What happened to me was very unpleasant. I went to the room to use the restroom. I had a heavy need. But I could not enter my room because the card failed to open the room. I was in a dangerous situation. I needed to hurry up to the public restroom in the lobby. I was lucky that I could ease my needs in the public restroom. If the public restroom was not so close or if it was occupied I could fill up my pants if you understand what I want to say with these words. 3. In my room the toilette flushing did not work. And Mrs. Mariela Vallejo, Guest Experience ManagerHotel Catalonia Pla,ya Maroma, told me that the rooms we occupied had been recently renovated. After I reported the non-working toilette flushing it was repaired within 24 hours. For a recently renovated room it is not acceptable that the toilette flushing does not work. 4. The telephone in my room did not ring. It was repaired within 48 hours. This is a minor failure. Kind regards, Dr.-Ing. Overall Amazing

This resort was absolutely beautiful. The service was outstanding, the sit down restaurants were delicious, and the overall scenery was stunning. There were a few things that were kind of disappointing, but no where even close to ruining our time here, were the buffett. A lot of the food was cold. The seaweed on the beach. Definitely not something that could be helped, but if they got a tractor like the neighboring resorts they could keep up with it. And the coffee situation. They have a coffee shop, but it doesn't open until 10am. Ummm....I know I'm not the only person that wanted to have a cup of coffee on the beach in the morning. So having to go all the way to the lobby to get a very small cup of coffee and walk all the way back to the beach early in the morning was a pain and was by far the only thing I can really complain about. The coffee machine at the beach bar was broken so maybe they will get that fixed soon.

Detailed Review-Great Place

If you are looking for a relaxing, very clean and smallish resort with lush tropical feel, excellent wifi, great food and service then it might be just perfect. We booked privilege, but you will be very pleased even if you don’t. Privilege or not, everyone shares the same lobby, lobby bar and buffet. The entrance to buffet is in the lobby. Once you exit the lobby building, there is a straight path with jungle like area on each side (plenty of adorable coaties-but don’t feed them). This path leads straight to the pool area and in front of the pool area you have the beach. About a 6 minute walk from the lobby all the way to the beach. On one side of the path you have buildings 1, 3, and 5 (non-privilege) and on the other you have the privilege side; buildings 2, 4, 6. The same goes for the beach: on one side you have the non-privilege area and on the other the privilege. The only difference is drink service at your lounger and better loungers on the privilege side. Rooms: Clean, clean, clean. Privilege gets turn-down service and room service. Rooms are slightly nicer. TV has a few good English channels-fox classic premium movies is good for late at night #57. Never ran out of hot water, toiletries, toilet paper, face cloths, beer, water-just plenty of everything. Pool: Clean, clean, clean. Different depths, no crazy games or loud music. There is a pool bar but as everywhere basically quiet. Many large umbrellas for shade. Service: No issues anywhere-always with a smile. Food: Very good, a lot of variety. Blown away by the huge variety of fruits at breakfast. Breakfast is only served at the buffet unless you are privileged-then you have the option of the Beloved-very good a la carte but we thought the buffet was more fun for variety. Here is the thing with dinner: you can only reserve if you pre-order a bottle of wine. If you don’t do this, you will get a buzzer. Wait times could reach 1.5 hours. We went to the Italian early-opens at 6:00 and we were there at 6:00. We were seated right away and had the most perfect view of the ocean. The Italian is situated above the Beach Bar. This used to be a privileged restaurant, but it isn’t anymore and is no longer open for lunch. Worth going to. Lunch: many options: small buffet beside the pool (at night this is the Mexican a la carte), regular buffet in the lobby area, crepes at the creperie beside the pool and a hot dog and taco truck. Everything is fresh and tasty. There is a small shaded terrace outside the beach bar. Very nice comfortable seating. No music. Just lovely to look at the ocean and enjoy a cocktail-even BLOODY CAEZARS! Aromes Coffee Lounge: Open from 10:00 – 6:00. Another great quiet spot to sip and enjoy a Spanish or Irish coffee amongst many others and a desert. Beach: Flour like white sand, turquoise water, palm trees. No palapas anywhere-not even on privileged side. Not the best if you really need shade. No loud music and I saw no one bring their personal Bluetooth speaker. Once again, peaceful- a great place to relax. Yes, on some days there was quite a bit of sargassum (seaweed) but I think it is part of the new normal. Medium-sized waves on most days. Best of all-NO TOWEL GAME! Don’t worry, sleep in, have a leisurely breakfast-there will be a chair waiting for you. They got it right, there are so many chairs that they have enough for everyone. Without palapas, there is no better spot. Evenings: most nights there was an excellent pre-show in the lobby. Started at 8 and went to 9:15. Top-notch singers and musicians-from Dean Martin to Elvis, to Justin Timberlake-played it all. The beach bar was also open until 11:45. A great place for a drink before dinner with your beeper in hand or for an after dinner drink. 9:30 there is a show in the theatre. Guests: Much older in general. Some younger couples with young children as well. We were there during March break and we saw zero groups of teens, not even small groups. There were a few teens here and there with parents. No parties, loud drinking, or anything of the sort. If you like a quiet, small, tropical, no hassle resort, best suited for romance and relaxation then you will most likely really enjoy this place.

stayed from 3/18 to 3/22. used to stay a Paradisus, cheaper but food more than extra in the specialized restaurants. Hats off to Nathan, Eduardo and Fernando from the Japanese restaurant Ayami. Exceptional service(Fernando) and food (Eduardo and Nathan) they must have lived in Japan, and worked in a restaurant there! Fabulous to say the least. I go to Japan often and no doubt they deserve top marks.

Service from the workers behind the scenes so rude. The pasta guy was so mean my kids were scared to order from him and both times we started at Catalonia same guy same attitude. There was a lot of sewees this time. I know it’s not the resorts fault but was looking forward to spending time on the beach and didn’t at all

We recently stayed at the Catalonia and had a great time. We stayed in a privileged room. I wouldn't say it was anything particularly special but it was comfortable and clean. It was also nice and quiet which is important to us. I like that we had free room service and it was always good and came quickly. The staff throughout the resort were friendly and the service for the most part was good. We didn't get great service in the buffet but I have experienced that in other resorts as well, probably volume of people. The restaurants were very nice and the food was good. I like that you weren't limited to how many restaurants you could go to but I think a reservation system might have worked better. It was challenging to wait in line with a four year old. I wasn't crazy about the kids club. There seemed to be a lot of activities for adults but not so much for the little ones. I think it would be great to have more activities for the kids throughout the day around the pool and at the beach. We went to the kids club one day and it wasn't even open. They called the caregiver who came but said she wouldn't be doing any of the scheduled activities because there was only my child. It shouldn't matter how many children there are, there should still be activities. The beach had a lot of seaweed but it was still nice and the pool was clean and nice. There always seemed to be chairs at both. Overall a great vacation and a nice resort. I would go back for sure!
