Absolutely perfect!
ALICIA M.

This was our first trip to Mexico. We celebrated our 30th Anniversary while there. At the end of the first day, we came back to our room to a bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge and a 30 shaped pastry, fancy dishes and all. That was just the beginning of a perfect week. We enjoyed the walk through the jungle every day, and watching the coatis play. We are at the buffet almost every single meal, because the food and service was exceptional. We paid the extra for privileged, and we loved the beach service and room service provided by that upgrade. Just an absolutely perfect week!

We stayed in a Privledged room. It was worth the extra cost. The Privledged restaurant was moved to an air conditioned space which made for a great break from the heat. The food at the Privledged restaurant was fantastic. Service was a little slow but the waiters were friendly and always had a smile. Overall for all inclusive this is one of the best. Beach and newly surfaced pool with swim up bar were great. Highly recommend this resort.

Complaint
WASSIL W.
Jun 01 2018
Ladies and Gentlemen: This is a complaint regarding my vacation at Catalonia Playa Maroma. I am writing to you also on behalf of the other vacationers. The reasons for the complaints are: 1. The air conditioning did not work in all three rooms as it should work. 2. The key cards for all three rooms did not work properly and it was necessarily to replace the cards for all three rooms many times during the one week stay. What happened to me was very unpleasant. I went to the room to use the restroom. I had a heavy need. But I could not enter my room because the card failed to open the room. I was in a dangerous situation. I needed to hurry up to the public restroom in the lobby. I was lucky that I could ease my needs in the public restroom. If the public restroom was not so close or if it was occupied I could fill up my pants if you understand what I want to say with these words. 3. In my room the toilette flushing did not work. And Mrs. Mariela Vallejo, Guest Experience ManagerHotel Catalonia Pla,ya Maroma, told me that the rooms we occupied had been recently renovated. After I reported the non-working toilette flushing it was repaired within 24 hours. For a recently renovated room it is not acceptable that the toilette flushing does not work. 4. The telephone in my room did not ring. It was repaired within 48 hours. This is a minor failure. Kind regards, Dr.-Ing. Overall Amazing

This resort was absolutely beautiful. The service was outstanding, the sit down restaurants were delicious, and the overall scenery was stunning. There were a few things that were kind of disappointing, but no where even close to ruining our time here, were the buffett. A lot of the food was cold. The seaweed on the beach. Definitely not something that could be helped, but if they got a tractor like the neighboring resorts they could keep up with it. And the coffee situation. They have a coffee shop, but it doesn't open until 10am. Ummm....I know I'm not the only person that wanted to have a cup of coffee on the beach in the morning. So having to go all the way to the lobby to get a very small cup of coffee and walk all the way back to the beach early in the morning was a pain and was by far the only thing I can really complain about. The coffee machine at the beach bar was broken so maybe they will get that fixed soon.

The beach had a lot of sea weed, they tried to clean the beach, but could not keep up with it, the hotels to the south did a better job with larger equipment. CHeck in was very slow for privileged! only one person available to check us in. Food was ok, Italian was the best, mexican was 2nd best, steak was thin and dried out at the steak house

Excellent hotel, wonderful staff, needs updating, beach had huge seaweed problem most of the time.

The hotel overall was very, very good and we enjoyed our stay. Yes the rooms, especially the washrooms, were in serious need of updating. However, everything was very clean and the cleaning staff was excellent. The big issue we had was the piles of seaweed on the beach. It was so much that we could not go in the ocean without our legs getting covered with seaweed. This is not a problem of the hotel although we wish the hotel would have cleaned up the seaweed more in front of our hotel as the neighboring hotels did. The seaweed, I understand, does come and go and the last day of our vacation the beach was remarkably free of seaweed. I would not have believed it , especially after having viewed the piles and piles of seaweed earlier in the week. Overall our experience was pretty positive and we did enjoy our week. I guess that it is pretty much hit or miss as to when they get the influx of seaweed on the beach.

Disappointed

We upgraded at check in to privileged. Food was below average. Room below average. Fixtures torn off wall with wires hanging out. Part of our upgrade was spa and massage. After it was booked for the SECOND time because there was no hot water at the resort for 2 days, we were checked into the spa and only AFTER the check in and massage when we could not reschedule were told the sauna was broken. Oh and the jacuzzi was COLD and didn't have any jet near the seats. The best employee was the maintenance guy who responded after 3 calls to the front desk,a visit to guest services and a visit to the privilege concierge. It took 1hr to get our bagswhen promised in 15 min and no one would pick up the phone. Lastly non privilege guests were able to make reservations at the restaurants, knew about restaurant events and resort happening that were not posted or shared with us. We ended up waiting sometime 20 minutes for a table or sharing with strangers while non privilege guests with reservations (which we were told were not taken) were seated first. Oh and the food sucked. And the buffet was like a food free for all that you nearly would get run over at and at breakfast you were not seated. If you had an excursion that left at 7 forget eating because there is nothing available and most excursion that were interesting left from there at about 7. And there were animals in the buffet area.

A lovely 2 week Honeymoon

We booked this hotel with Tui and was very surprised how easy it was to book at an amazing price. Just a few clicks and it was done, the flight was really nice on the dreamliner. We arrived at the hotel after a 30 - 40 mins transfer from the airport. When checking in we were asked about upgrading to privileged but decided not to, just down to cost really. The staff at the hotel are fantastic in every way. so happy, helpful, courteous. Our room was very spacious with a king size bed, small shower and terrace as we were on the ground floor. Our garden view room was actually jungle view but we didnt mind it was lovely, and the local animals coming to check us out on the terrace was really nice. All the restaurants are available to use except 1 i think which is for privileged. But to be honest it didnt matter. We did use the Mexican & the Italian, well worth a visit. The grill was busy most nights, advise to get there early. The main restaurant near the lobby had everything you would want, the only suggestion i would have for the hotel is to have more traditional dishes and mix it up a little, the food in the main restaurant did get a little boring. Especially for breakfast. We would like to send our love to Juan & caroline in the main restaurant such wonderful people always a smile on their faces, very welcoming and happy, Juan made our holiday, say hi for us if u go. The beach: our first few days at the hotel we spent on the beach, beautiful white sands, gorgeous warm clear sea, palm trees, hammocks, drinks delivered to you, it was so nice. then after a few days a little wind in the air and the seaweed came. we did read a little about people moaning about the seaweed. OMG when it comes it comes. The poor guys out there everyday trying to clean the beaches for you. work so hard. it got so bad the it cover the sea like a blanket. (see pictures) So it was pool for the rest of the holiday. the best bit that tickled me. the privileged side of the beach was busier than our side. we felt more privileged than they did lol. The entertainment at the hotel was fantastic they really do work hard to entertain you. some great shows performed well worth watching. The disco/nightclub if you can call it that. not what we are used to. We decided to venture to the club one night, but we walked out 5 mins later. just a room with a few static lights and a projector for video DJ. There are some shops on site with some really nice things to buy, be aware that they dont take pesos, strange i know, you can pay dollars or charge to your room. Always check out the doctors fees, we had to call the doc out to the restaurant just next door to his office, the price automatically goes up if he has to leave his room, so be aware on that one. We were $200 lighter of our spending budget for 5 mins in the restaurant. There is an ATM at the hotel, be careful tho, Santander tried to charge us $35 to use this machine. So we found an ATM when on an excursion and it only charged us $2 to use it. Excursions: Tui do have some good excursions but can be pricey, i would suggest booking locally for better price of the same ones. Ask the guys in the hotel they can sort for you. We would recommend Coba with cenote, Tulum with cenote & Xplor. Xplor was the best day we had, absolutely amazing, $90all inc & pick up. zip lines, off road driving, cave swimming, rafting, it was action packed. well worth it. So to tot up our experience at the hotel. We had a lovely honeymoon, it was perfect for us. a shame but nothing they cud do about the seaweed, such a lovely beach. Thank you to all the staff.xxx Depending on who you book with be aware of the departure tax, which has to be paid as you check in at the airport going home its £50 cash. or u can pay dollars, pesos.

very nice resort

Great hotel, terrible Privileged service
ines_olivia,
Tue Nov 06 11:36:17 EST 2018
I am terribly disappointed: themed restaurants (only available for privileged guests, who pay more to have special services available) had TERRIBLE food. I had the most disgusting risotto I have ever tasted in my life, we were served tartar with ICE on it and I was served a well cooked steak at the steakhouse, when I asked for a raw one. The restaurant staff was overall very unkind and didn’t smile at all (with the exception of two garçons who were working at the a la carte breakfast restaurant). But the worst part of everything was the fact that they refused to sit down our group of 8 people at an almost empty restaurant when the only table of 8 was being occupied by TWO PEOPLE. Each restaurant had 1 to 2 tables of 8 people. If those tables were being occupied by anyone, they would make us wait for the table to be free, even if the rest of the tables were empty!!! They did not move tables around in order to make a bigger one, for reasons that reason itself doesn’t understand. They even suggested that we had our meals sitting apart from each other - what kind of differentiated service is this?! If you have a big family DO NOT COME HERE, otherwise they will tell you all to eat apart from eachother, despite the fact of having an empty restaurant behind them. Also, DON’T pay for the privileged service - you will be very well looked after at the buffet restaurant, where they sit everyone down with no problem and the food is also a lot better. It is not worth your money. The hotel in itself is great. Very comfortable, beautiful, with a lot of vegetation, very big bedrooms with huge beds, which were unspeakably comfortable. Always very clean. Great swimming pool, and great beach. The buffet restaurant was great in every aspect. The privileged a la cart breakfast was great, and the only positive thing about being a privileged guest. Overall, it could have been a perfect experience if only people were a little bit nicer, if the food was at least average and not terrible (although the tapas one was actually good) and if they didn’t have such idiotic rules.

Great Vacation Destination, Staff are 5 star

Rooms were a little outdated but the beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean. The buffet had a decent selection and the a la cartes were pretty good, disappointed in the steakhouse. Can't say enough about the staff, the bartenders were great making all kinds of different drinks and shots. The entertainment staff made the week, from the activities during the days to the shows at night. Make sure you go to the shows, our group looked forward to them every day. Honestly, very little to complain about and we all agreed we would go back. The resort is a bit small and we went at an off-peak time, not sure what it would be like during the high peak times, probably would get a bit crowded.
