Disappointed

I have stayed at many resorts and would have to say I was very disappointed with this resort. The fact that they didn’t speak English was impossible to communicate. The food was not what you would expect, was not kid friendly at any means.will not recommend this resort.

The staff are very accommodating and friendly. This was our second time at this hotel. They have done a great deal of upgrading the facilities since our first meeting. Particularly, the restaurants and the pool area. The grounds are lush with trees and bushes. The beach is lovely and quiet. We will return.

Absolutely perfect!

This was our first trip to Mexico. We celebrated our 30th Anniversary while there. At the end of the first day, we came back to our room to a bottle of champagne chilling in the fridge and a “30” shaped pastry, fancy dishes and all. That was just the beginning of a perfect week. We enjoyed the walk through the jungle every day, and watching the coatis play. We are at the buffet almost every single meal, because the food and service was exceptional. We paid the extra for privileged, and we loved the beach service and room service provided by that upgrade. Just an absolutely perfect week!

We stayed in a Privledged room. It was worth the extra cost. The Privledged restaurant was moved to an air conditioned space which made for a great break from the heat. The food at the Privledged restaurant was fantastic. Service was a little slow but the waiters were friendly and always had a smile. Overall for all inclusive this is one of the best. Beach and newly surfaced pool with swim up bar were great. Highly recommend this resort.

Complaint
WASSIL W.
Jun 01 2018
Ladies and Gentlemen: This is a complaint regarding my vacation at Catalonia Playa Maroma. I am writing to you also on behalf of the other vacationers. The reasons for the complaints are: 1. The air conditioning did not work in all three rooms as it should work. 2. The key cards for all three rooms did not work properly and it was necessarily to replace the cards for all three rooms many times during the one week stay. What happened to me was very unpleasant. I went to the room to use the restroom. I had a heavy need. But I could not enter my room because the card failed to open the room. I was in a dangerous situation. I needed to hurry up to the public restroom in the lobby. I was lucky that I could ease my needs in the public restroom. If the public restroom was not so close or if it was occupied I could fill up my pants if you understand what I want to say with these words. 3. In my room the toilette flushing did not work. And Mrs. Mariela Vallejo, Guest Experience ManagerHotel Catalonia Pla,ya Maroma, told me that the rooms we occupied had been recently renovated. After I reported the non-working toilette flushing it was repaired within 24 hours. For a recently renovated room it is not acceptable that the toilette flushing does not work. 4. The telephone in my room did not ring. It was repaired within 48 hours. This is a minor failure. Kind regards, Dr.-Ing. Overall Amazing
ALISHA I.

This resort was absolutely beautiful. The service was outstanding, the sit down restaurants were delicious, and the overall scenery was stunning. There were a few things that were kind of disappointing, but no where even close to ruining our time here, were the buffett. A lot of the food was cold. The seaweed on the beach. Definitely not something that could be helped, but if they got a tractor like the neighboring resorts they could keep up with it. And the coffee situation. They have a coffee shop, but it doesn't open until 10am. Ummm....I know I'm not the only person that wanted to have a cup of coffee on the beach in the morning. So having to go all the way to the lobby to get a very small cup of coffee and walk all the way back to the beach early in the morning was a pain and was by far the only thing I can really complain about. The coffee machine at the beach bar was broken so maybe they will get that fixed soon.

The beach had a lot of sea weed, they tried to clean the beach, but could not keep up with it, the hotels to the south did a better job with larger equipment. CHeck in was very slow for privileged! only one person available to check us in. Food was ok, Italian was the best, mexican was 2nd best, steak was thin and dried out at the steak house

Excellent hotel, wonderful staff, needs updating, beach had huge seaweed problem most of the time.

The hotel overall was very, very good and we enjoyed our stay. Yes the rooms, especially the washrooms, were in serious need of updating. However, everything was very clean and the cleaning staff was excellent. The big issue we had was the piles of seaweed on the beach. It was so much that we could not go in the ocean without our legs getting covered with seaweed. This is not a problem of the hotel although we wish the hotel would have cleaned up the seaweed more in front of our hotel as the neighboring hotels did. The seaweed, I understand, does come and go and the last day of our vacation the beach was remarkably free of seaweed. I would not have believed it , especially after having viewed the piles and piles of seaweed earlier in the week. Overall our experience was pretty positive and we did enjoy our week. I guess that it is pretty much hit or miss as to when they get the influx of seaweed on the beach.

The employees are very nice and the food is great, the buffet had a good variety of food and was very tasty. The rooms were a little hot, the people selling time shares did not take a no for an answer. But over all I will book again at this location.

Great second time at this resort - friendly staff, very green shady area, perfect beach, clean rooms, close to city if needed! Close to Tulum. We were there in 2018 with 9 people and came back in January 2019 with 30 people!!! Hope to come back:)

Amazing resort and beach if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place. There is a lot of variety at the buffet and the food is very good. All the staff was very nice and respectful. The room was perfectly cleaned every day. We loved the jungle aspect and the animals everywhere!

Beautiful beach at a great price

This resort is one of my favorites. The beach is absolutely breathtaking! Not a weed or rock in the water to be found. On occasion there are fish that come around to swim with you as well. You can walk along the beach in either direction for miles. There will be no excuses not to relax here. You never have to fight for a pool chair or one on the beach. There are no vendors coming to hassle you. If you are looking for fun, the entertainment crew is great and there is always something going on. There is live music and dancing on some evenings and the nightly show was pretty good. Some nights were better than others. The layout of the resort is very nice. They have some great perks, like a fantastic coffee shop, a crêperie With ice cream, a fresh juice bar and lots of shopping on site. I liked that this resort is more authentic with grass thatched roofs and typical Mexican decor. There are plenty of alfresco dining options, which I also like. There are plenty of food options day and night. Yes the buffet is a bit repetitive, but the food is good and you will find something here that you like. The food carts by the pool are delicious and a nice touch. My favourite a la cartes were the Japanese and the Mexican. Service here is great, staff is very friendly and eager to help. Rarely would you have to wait for a table or stand in line for a drink very long. All in all, this is a great resort at a great price. All the other resorts along this beach are much more expensive, why pay more to experience the same views and beach?

We had a wonderful stay at the resort. Friendly staff (thank you Lucia), very clean rooms (thank you Patricia), clean resort. Buffet was good, and the a la carte restaurants were also good. Beach was very nice; seaweed was bad at times, but staff tried to keep it under control (it is nature so it is understandable). Pool was a little too cold which was disappointing. My kids loved the Coati even though they can be a nuisance. Overall we had a really great time and would recommend it to our friends.
