Catalonia Gran Dominicus Low Key High Quality

located in Bajahibe, far frow the crowds of Punta Cana, a beautiful property staffed by beautiful people. Wonderful beach and calm Caribbean sea- service of very high quality. The property is not as large or as fancy as some in the DR, but for relaxation, good quality food, nice rooms and truly exceptional service this is the place, for me and my family.

This hotel should be removed from Apple Vacation destinations. We were in two different rooms which both had a leak, one from under the wall and the other from a light fixture in the ceiling. It took 45 minutes to check in with only 1 person in front of us and towels were not provided in the room as promised. The food in the buffet is almost not edible and the food in the ala carte restaurants is mediocre at best. Your Apple representative, one Reginaldo Morel was of absolutely no help and wouldn't even give us a telephone number to call for assistance from Apple. He should be fired as he does not represent what we have come to understand over the years as good service. We are long time users of Apple Vacations but may indeed seek out other options for our next vacation. In fact, we should be provided a credit from Apple for at least one half of the cost of our vacation. We prefer that you contact us to discuss the matter.

Check in was very slow and they were not very helpful. Our room was nice and close to the pool and beach however my sunglasses were stolen on the first day. The alcohol was poor quality and the food was mediocre at best but the entertainment staff was fun. The beach was beautiful.

7 Day All Inclusive Vacation to Catalonia Gran Dominicus
Sep 18 2013
The Apple Rep's we encountered before and during our trip gave nothing but excellent customer service. The hotel was beautiful, I felt like I was living in a garden. Our priviledged suite was very cozy. The refrigerator didn't get as cold as I would like. All beverages were at cool temperatures. When we did a turn down service, I would specifically ask for more bath towels, beach towels, and washcloths. Every time the maids would come, they did not give us new washcloths. This was annoying! There was always a lot of tiny ants crawling around the sink area. Our toilet needed to be plunged twice during our visit. Sometimes walking around the resort you could smell the septic sewer, which was gross! The entertainment staff was always doing something all day and night to get guests to have fun. Whether dancing, water aerobics, or nightly shows. The bartenders were always nice. The women staff at the Crepe restaurant on the beach always had attitudes. Sometimes the staff in the priviledged section weren't very attentive to something as simple as making sure we had water to drink. The buffet always had a vast variety of great food to choose from. But since this is a tropical island, and most of the restaurants were open, we encountered many birds, flies, and other insects hovering all around the food. I avoided the dessert and fruit sections completely because of this. The Rodeo Steakhouse food was disgusting; my least favorite out of all the places to eat. Terrace Lounge was my favorite; food was absolutely exquisite. The beach area was always clean. The pool was at the right temperature. The staff at the Priviledged Lounge area were always very helpful. We did three exursions: Outback Safarai (A DEFINITE MUST!!!), Marinarium (AMAZING!!!), and Zip Lining! We enjoyed all of them!!! I was really disappointed in the Alegria Spa. We got a couple's massage and facial. I kept telling them I wanted deep pressure with my massage, and they basically rubbed my skin like they were applying lotion. It was a waste of money. The facial was very mediocre; I've had way better facials in the U.S. I would avoid the Spa altogether!!! We went to the Disco one night. It was empty, aside from 2 other couples. We asked the D.J. to play a song. We waited 15 minutes, and our song never came on. You would think that since it was dead they would play our request. So we immediately left. We did get sick during our stay. We had diarrhea for 1.5 days. We aren't sure how we got it!

Wonderful place for couples

Biggest negatives: we had ants in our bedroom (do NOT leave any fruit juice or food on any counter anywhere - make sure it gets into the trashcan immediately if you're done eating); and the romantic lobster dinner on the beach took FOREVER, and my boyfriend and I were served our lobster after 6 tables that had gotten there AFTER us had been served. However, beyond these two things, this was truly a great, affordable place for us to spend our first vacation together! The privileged room was lovely - beautiful bed, balcony, and bathroom. I don't know what the other standard rooms looked like, but this one was beautiful. The shows at night are definitely worth going to (the entertainment staff are amazing dancers, not so great at lip syncing), and the disco is super fun at night, just consider taking salsa lessons before you arrive! The beach is stunningly beautiful with very nice, lukewarm water, very soft sand, and a little bar to keep that drink cup full. They also offer yummy crepes at the bar for your snacking pleasure. Overall, I'd 100% recommend this resort. The staff are sweet and kind and very helpful, and they deserve every penny they earn.

Relaxing Vacation

This hotel while not especially high end provided exactly what I wanted and needed. The food and beverages weren't phenomenal but if you are looking for a quiet resort with a beautiful beach this hotel is it. Private sections of the beach are one big reason to upgrade to the premier package. The staff was kind and always willing to help out. If you are looking for a place to party with tons of good booze and five star food I would look elsewhere. Still the resort was quiet and the beach was beautiful.

Great trip for a great price!
Jul 25 2013
My boyfriend and I recently returned from our first vacation with Apple. We bought a deal off of LivingSocial throgh Apple Vacations to Catalonia Gran Dominicus and what a fantastic trip it was! We received the best treatment from the hotel staff, an upgrade to a Priviledge room, and traveling was a breeze! Apple had coordinated all transportation to and from the airport, and had an agent at the hotel to help us pick our excursions. The all-inclusive deal was great- we did spend more for tipping the staff, as well as extras we wanted on the trip (i.e. excursions, spa packages, additional dinners). I would 100% reccommend the hotel to anyone who is looking for a great value, beautiful beaches, and a memorable time. The staff at Catalonia Gran Dominicus were awesome-from the front desk, the fun bartenders, entertainers, serves, etc. I have never seen so many happy people who seem to love what they do and are so nice to everyone they speak to. While we were a young couple, there were more families there, so if you are looking for a "party scene" this is probably not the best place to go. But if you are wanting a great get-a-way with an amazing beach, delicious cocktails, and a welcoming staff this is the place for you! Our vacation lasted 7 days, and if I could have stayed for 7 more I would have!

The staff were wonderful. We had two rooms booked. My children got turn down service with chocolates every night. We only got it once and we were on the same hall. The showers in our room had little to no hot water or pressure. A complaint to the "privileged" concierge resulted in increased pressure but not the hot water. This was not an issue for others traveling with us. The beach was nice but had a very steep incline to get to the water. Since we were traveling with someone with mobility issues, she could not get down to the water or out of the water without considerable help. The pool however, had a zero depth walk in area that was great for handicapped people. We had expected all the restaurants to be open each night, but that was not the case. Restaurant food was better than the buffet food. The restaurants were all open air, and the desserts at the buffet were not protected. The birds were eating the desserts all the time and no one was even trying to shoo them away. Needless to say, we all stayed away from the buffet desserts. We had to ask for wash cloths and extra towels. The maids did not always replace exactly what they took, leaving us with out wash cloths most of the time.

We let the hotel know it was our honeymoon vacation and they still put us in a room with two beds. Additionally, after arriving in the early afternoon, they took until 5:00 pm to open up a room for us. Also, it was not made evident that our dinners would be limited to only four restaurant meals and the remaining nights had to be at the buffet which is not as good. The bar service was excellent. All the drinks were made fresh from real fruit juices and the servers were very friendly and welcoming.

Hotel is beautiful with beautiful and clean beach. The rooms seem to be newly decorated, but certain things, such as broken phone line, broken electric outlets, and my parents room Was without AC for 2 days. Not enough entertainment, especially at night for young single adults. The staffs were great and service was excellent. The food were overall good.

I have completely no words for how terrible this place is... Room: Upon arrival our room wasn’t ready even though it was check in time. They gave us a tour of the standard room. And let me tell you, the sink was holding on for dear life, the tiles were extremely outdated, the shower was filthy... and in the 35+ degree weather, there was no air conditioning. We had no other choice but to fall into their trap and upgrade to privileged. The privileged room was nothing special and was what you would expect the standard to be at other resorts. They have some low standards... Amenities: The gym has no equipment, where’s the squat rack at #legday? There’s barely anything to do activity wise. Each room can only go kayaking once, which compared to other resorts is nothing. Entertainment: Oh boy! Most of the staff are very focused on only the Italian speaking guests and pay no attention to anyone else. The staff that did talk to us were friendly. Shoutout to Williams, Genesis & Joel. There are however a few staff members who are completely unprofessional and creepy. Reynaldo made multiple sexual advances towards my friend which made her very uncomfortable. He physically touched her and winked at her numerous times. I understand that the animation team’s job is to interact with the guests but this is crossing the line. The shows were bad, half of them were done with poor lip syncing. You could tell how low-budget this resort is. Food: The “a la carte” restaurants are basically just the food at the buffet in smaller portions with fancy presentation. Be prepared to wait a minimum of 30 minutes for your food to arrive. The dress code is unclear, inconsistent and excessive. I was asked to leave and change because I was wearing a backless dress, meanwhile people baring their entire stomach were not asked to change. At the buffet, the food is only good on the weekend. For the most part food was the same everyday with subtle changes. There also was not a variety of dishes. I was not enjoying myself, and I felt like I was eating only for sustenance. The only good things were the pineapples, crepes and pizza. Room Service: Room service was very slow, and despite it being “24h room service” it was only from 7am-11pm. We ordered pizza at 10pm and it came at 11:30pm... ridiculous. I was honestly expecting so much better since the pictures were nice but the resort is nothing like the photos so don’t waste your time. Go somewhere else and avoid this one at all costs! Really not worth your money!!

Wonderful holiday, definitely recommend this hotel

Hi guys, I would like to write a few words about our amazing holiday in Catalonia Gran Dominicus. We have just came back from this wonderful resort and of course we will definitely come back. Everything from the beginning was perfect. After our arrival we have upgraded our room to privilege for about 300 US for 2 weeks. It is better to try upgrade direct in the hotel and not through the agency. Quick check-in and we were in our room. Everything was nice and clean and our room were cleaned on daily basis. We stayed in Catalonia 2 weeks and everyday here was a dream. Food was perfect, Rafael (omelette guy) make me everyday perfect breakfast, and also all other people were very friendly and always smiling which was a feeling like we are a part of a big family. Lunch and dinner was great, every day some fresh fish, fries, steak, pasta, fresh vegetables and fruits, 3 times we had a sushi, which was perfect and also perfect deserts and cakes. Also there was a very funny guy making a pancakes quite often. Beach was amazing and really nice, so many place for relax and swim. We were at privilege part of the beach and sometimes was full, so you need to come little bit earlier, but it was not a big problem. I would definitely recommend this hotel and we hope that we will come back. People and all stuff were absolutely amazing. I have only one negative thing. We are type of people who go to bed early around 10 PM and almost every day there was a really noisy music around the pool. 3 times I was on the reception at 12 PM that I can not sleep, but nothing was changed. I understand that on holiday there needs to be fun, but next time I will pick the room near the reception and not near the pool. Sometimes the music played till 1 AM which is really long, but what can I do. Apart of this, this was our best holiday ever, thank you guys, you are amazing :)

We are a family of 6 & had 2 rooms from June 17 to June 27 2018. Everything went well upon arrival with early check in and so forth. On the third day our A/C in one room, was not properly cooling the room. I contacted Concierge Darotry who introduced me to Guest Service Manager Reyna Rodriguez who had them move us to another room & compensated all 6 of us with a special dinner. The resort is beautiful, well kept & clean with very pleasant workers. Food was very good, well prepared and served, Specialty Restaurants were easy to enter provided you went early and going as a Privileged Guest was an advantage. It is definitely a resort I would return to.

Go Animacion Excellente!!!

As far as the room comfort goes I strongly suggest the upgrade to Privilege because the standard rooms are a total disappointment. The food is average nothing more than you would expect from a buffet including the Alla Carte restaurants. The bars had barely any brand drinks (even with the upgrade). This in comparison with Punta Cana resorts or Mexico - Rivera Maya. Suggestions to the owners: 1) In a resort dominated by Italians, French, Dutch, Americans you need to upgrade your standard rooms or shut them down all together. 2) Add at least 8-10 brand drinks to your bar's for all of your guests. 3) Spend a little more on food options. If you change these people would want to come back again and again. The reason I am giving you 4 stars is simply the entertainment, specifically the Animacion Excellente team (Sileni (aka Disiplina, aka Great person, aka Excellente..Animacion excellente), Santos, Jesse, Reynaldo, Massimo and all of the rest of the team. You guys are great! Professionals, talented, tireless, always smiling, friendly, helpful and funny..."Oh my Gada" (#Jesse Anyway, I can write about these guys nonstop simply because they made our stay wonderful. Without them Catalonia would just be a place where you can eat, drink, swim in the sea...get bored...You guys are the spirit and the best that Catalonia has to offer.

Great Place!

The whole experience was a great Pleasure. Christelle at the front desk was amazing! We were offered an upgrade in their exclusive suites and we had a great stay. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The facilities are very well maintained and the beaches are great.
