Our room was old, falling apart. Bugs, Gekkos shared our bed and room. Lock on back sliding door broken so was not secure until day before we left. Lights burned out, TV remote went dead and towels became scarce. When we went to get our first beach towels, she yelled NO don’t have any! 1% spoke English, and they did not care. Cold coffee, buffet was European and sometimes cold. We filled out a hotel survey but, we are confident that the survey will not get turned in or reviewed. We only ate in a specialty restaurant 4 times. We were not “ privileged or exclusive” and definitely felt it. We are telling anyone that asks to stay away!! Never again. We have been to the D.R. Eight times. We are not new to resorts. Extremely dissatisfied.

located in Bajahibe, far frow the crowds of Punta Cana, a beautiful property staffed by beautiful people. Wonderful beach and calm Caribbean sea- service of very high quality. The property is not as large or as fancy as some in the DR, but for relaxation, good quality food, nice rooms and truly exceptional service this is the place, for me and my family.

This hotel should be removed from Apple Vacation destinations. We were in two different rooms which both had a leak, one from under the wall and the other from a light fixture in the ceiling. It took 45 minutes to check in with only 1 person in front of us and towels were not provided in the room as promised. The food in the buffet is almost not edible and the food in the ala carte restaurants is mediocre at best. Your Apple representative, one Reginaldo Morel was of absolutely no help and wouldn't even give us a telephone number to call for assistance from Apple. He should be fired as he does not represent what we have come to understand over the years as good service. We are long time users of Apple Vacations but may indeed seek out other options for our next vacation. In fact, we should be provided a credit from Apple for at least one half of the cost of our vacation. We prefer that you contact us to discuss the matter.

Check in was very slow and they were not very helpful. Our room was nice and close to the pool and beach however my sunglasses were stolen on the first day. The alcohol was poor quality and the food was mediocre at best but the entertainment staff was fun. The beach was beautiful.

The Apple Rep's we encountered before and during our trip gave nothing but excellent customer service. The hotel was beautiful, I felt like I was living in a garden. Our priviledged suite was very cozy. The refrigerator didn't get as cold as I would like. All beverages were at cool temperatures. When we did a turn down service, I would specifically ask for more bath towels, beach towels, and washcloths. Every time the maids would come, they did not give us new washcloths. This was annoying! There was always a lot of tiny ants crawling around the sink area. Our toilet needed to be plunged twice during our visit. Sometimes walking around the resort you could smell the septic sewer, which was gross! The entertainment staff was always doing something all day and night to get guests to have fun. Whether dancing, water aerobics, or nightly shows. The bartenders were always nice. The women staff at the Crepe restaurant on the beach always had attitudes. Sometimes the staff in the priviledged section weren't very attentive to something as simple as making sure we had water to drink. The buffet always had a vast variety of great food to choose from. But since this is a tropical island, and most of the restaurants were open, we encountered many birds, flies, and other insects hovering all around the food. I avoided the dessert and fruit sections completely because of this. The Rodeo Steakhouse food was disgusting; my least favorite out of all the places to eat. Terrace Lounge was my favorite; food was absolutely exquisite. The beach area was always clean. The pool was at the right temperature. The staff at the Priviledged Lounge area were always very helpful. We did three exursions: Outback Safarai (A DEFINITE MUST!!!), Marinarium (AMAZING!!!), and Zip Lining! We enjoyed all of them!!! I was really disappointed in the Alegria Spa. We got a couple's massage and facial. I kept telling them I wanted deep pressure with my massage, and they basically rubbed my skin like they were applying lotion. It was a waste of money. The facial was very mediocre; I've had way better facials in the U.S. I would avoid the Spa altogether!!! We went to the Disco one night. It was empty, aside from 2 other couples. We asked the D.J. to play a song. We waited 15 minutes, and our song never came on. You would think that since it was dead they would play our request. So we immediately left. We did get sick during our stay. We had diarrhea for 1.5 days. We aren't sure how we got it!

Biggest negatives: we had ants in our bedroom (do NOT leave any fruit juice or food on any counter anywhere - make sure it gets into the trashcan immediately if you're done eating); and the romantic lobster dinner on the beach took FOREVER, and my boyfriend and I were served our lobster after 6 tables that had gotten there AFTER us had been served. However, beyond these two things, this was truly a great, affordable place for us to spend our first vacation together! The privileged room was lovely - beautiful bed, balcony, and bathroom. I don't know what the other standard rooms looked like, but this one was beautiful. The shows at night are definitely worth going to (the entertainment staff are amazing dancers, not so great at lip syncing), and the disco is super fun at night, just consider taking salsa lessons before you arrive! The beach is stunningly beautiful with very nice, lukewarm water, very soft sand, and a little bar to keep that drink cup full. They also offer yummy crepes at the bar for your snacking pleasure. Overall, I'd 100% recommend this resort. The staff are sweet and kind and very helpful, and they deserve every penny they earn.

This hotel while not especially high end provided exactly what I wanted and needed. The food and beverages weren't phenomenal but if you are looking for a quiet resort with a beautiful beach this hotel is it. Private sections of the beach are one big reason to upgrade to the premier package. The staff was kind and always willing to help out. If you are looking for a place to party with tons of good booze and five star food I would look elsewhere. Still the resort was quiet and the beach was beautiful.

My boyfriend and I recently returned from our first vacation with Apple. We bought a deal off of LivingSocial throgh Apple Vacations to Catalonia Gran Dominicus and what a fantastic trip it was! We received the best treatment from the hotel staff, an upgrade to a Priviledge room, and traveling was a breeze! Apple had coordinated all transportation to and from the airport, and had an agent at the hotel to help us pick our excursions. The all-inclusive deal was great- we did spend more for tipping the staff, as well as extras we wanted on the trip (i.e. excursions, spa packages, additional dinners). I would 100% reccommend the hotel to anyone who is looking for a great value, beautiful beaches, and a memorable time. The staff at Catalonia Gran Dominicus were awesome-from the front desk, the fun bartenders, entertainers, serves, etc. I have never seen so many happy people who seem to love what they do and are so nice to everyone they speak to. While we were a young couple, there were more families there, so if you are looking for a "party scene" this is probably not the best place to go. But if you are wanting a great get-a-way with an amazing beach, delicious cocktails, and a welcoming staff this is the place for you! Our vacation lasted 7 days, and if I could have stayed for 7 more I would have!

The staff were wonderful. We had two rooms booked. My children got turn down service with chocolates every night. We only got it once and we were on the same hall. The showers in our room had little to no hot water or pressure. A complaint to the "privileged" concierge resulted in increased pressure but not the hot water. This was not an issue for others traveling with us. The beach was nice but had a very steep incline to get to the water. Since we were traveling with someone with mobility issues, she could not get down to the water or out of the water without considerable help. The pool however, had a zero depth walk in area that was great for handicapped people. We had expected all the restaurants to be open each night, but that was not the case. Restaurant food was better than the buffet food. The restaurants were all open air, and the desserts at the buffet were not protected. The birds were eating the desserts all the time and no one was even trying to shoo them away. Needless to say, we all stayed away from the buffet desserts. We had to ask for wash cloths and extra towels. The maids did not always replace exactly what they took, leaving us with out wash cloths most of the time.

We let the hotel know it was our honeymoon vacation and they still put us in a room with two beds. Additionally, after arriving in the early afternoon, they took until 5:00 pm to open up a room for us. Also, it was not made evident that our dinners would be limited to only four restaurant meals and the remaining nights had to be at the buffet which is not as good. The bar service was excellent. All the drinks were made fresh from real fruit juices and the servers were very friendly and welcoming.

Hotel is beautiful with beautiful and clean beach. The rooms seem to be newly decorated, but certain things, such as broken phone line, broken electric outlets, and my parents room Was without AC for 2 days. Not enough entertainment, especially at night for young single adults. The staffs were great and service was excellent. The food were overall good.

I don't think this hotel deserves some of the bad reviews received. The only 2 bad points I can list are the room we stayed in and the a la carte restaurants. Firstly the room we stayed in was very dated and in need of a complete renovation. The shower leaked and not just in the bathroom, it would leak into the main room through the wall somehow. It did make the floor slippery and dangerous, we reported the issue multiple times with reception and each time someone would come to mop the floor and patch up the leak. Each time the leak got better and we found that leaving the shower head on the floor of the shower reduced the leak. Unfortunately the whole shower would need to come out to resolve this issue. The room was also right next to the entertainment area so the music was very loud late a night which did disturb us on a couple of occasions as we didn't stay out late every night. On the positive side the room was very spacious and the bed was huge! The a la carte restaurants are a little pointless here, we tried each of the 3 available to us and found that the only difference between these and the buffet was that you got served the food rather than helping yourself. It wasn't a case that the food was bad because it was nice but it wasn't anything special. The buffet was definately the best buffet I've experienced, so much variety along with fresh cooking stations. There were a couple of occasions on our trip the selection wasn't great but this is just our opinion. The food was good and the staff friendly and helpful. We didn't use the pool, we found that unless you were up before sun rise to reserve a bed there was nothing available. Only a few occassions did we walk past and there were a couple of beds free. This didn't bother us though as we loved the beach. The beach here is beautiful, the sea was lovely with no seaweed. There were always beds available and we never had any issues. Snorkelling is good here, especially if you swim up to the buoys which outline the swimming area, lots of fish to see. The entertainment staff are really hard working, always saw them around making the effort to get people to join in. There was always plenty to participate in. The pizzeria was amazing, lovely pizzas for lunch along with pasta. We really enjoyed lunch there and also the crepe hut was an added bonus for a late afternoon snack! The bars are great, serving plenty of drinks..... I fell in love with the mojitos. The water sports are also good, we didn't use the catamarans but had a go on the kayak and enjoyed that. It helps break the day up a bit. As for upgrading to privaledged, I personally don't see the benefit of doing this. Yes you may get a nicer room but the time you actually spend in the room isn't worth it. I'm sure the terrace restaurant is lovely and serves great food but I didn't see any major benefit to do this. We enjoyed our holiday here without having to spend a fortune upgrading. Overall I would definately recommend this hotel, it's obvious a lot of the rooms have been improved recently and it's a shame we didn't get one of those rooms. I would suggest they improve the last remaining rooms asap and improve the food quality in the a la carte restaurants.

The guy on the diving center was ignoring me during more than 20 min and then cancelled me the catamaran service 4 times due to safety reasons when the sea was perfect, this guys showed me total luck of customer orientation, just dont wanna work. They were pretty much interested in selling their diving services which are extra paid insted of the kayak and catamaran ones that are included in our hotel price ... very anoying destroying my kids dream ...

We went as 2 girls for 2 weeks in December. Upon arrival, the girls at reception were only interested to sell us upgrade to Privilege $25 pppn, but when asked what are the benefits compare to standard room, they were not able to explain so we decided to keep original booking and asked for “nice room” tipping $20. After check in, we were left with keys & luggage to find the room ourselves...impossible task, and we had to stop cleaning lady begging her to show us to our room. Despite tipping at check in, we ended up in the room right in front of the building site...in general, The room was ok - you get what you pay for, and as we did not plan to spend lot of time in the room, leaking shower or noisy toilet did not bother us. Food - really good, better than in most of other Bayahibe hotels we stayed before. Staff in the restaurant is working hard, but keep smiling and are very polite. Beach - just beautiful, best at Bayahibe. Language - if you do not speak Spanish or Italian, you will have great difficulties. Entertainment - if you like party, stay away from this hotel. After 11 pm, there was not much going on. This hotel is not suitable for people who like having fun & party all night. Every night the animation team performed different shows either at the bar or in theatre, then continued dancing with guests at the pool bar - but unless you are great bachata / salsa dancer you may not feel comfortable to join in as the whole bar will be looking at your dancing skills (or lack of it). Big shout out goes to Animation team, namely Simone, DJ Gatto, Celini, Esther, Danito and Santo who really are born entertainers and excellent at their job. Without them, our holiday at Catalonia would be very boring experience. Would we return? Yes, but only if the “nightlife” would improve, e.g. disco at the hotel.

Despite some minor issues we had a great time, this is what I consider a fair review. Important Note: This was not our Honeymoon we just booked the Honeymoon Suite and a heads up to anyone thinking of booking this for their honeymoon I would NOT recommend. Don’t get me wrong we had a great time and it’s a great holiday resort, but I consider the standard well below what anyone would expect for their honeymoon. Minor Issues: These were only minor inconveniences we had to deal with during the first days of our stay but did add up to be rather frustrating. It didn’t really affect how much we enjoyed our holiday however I know to some people these would be major issues which is why I’m posting them. Check-in process is terrible, also there isn’t a separate Privileged check-in which we were told there was. The process took around 45-60 minutes bearing in mind there was only 6 people checking in, not what you want after travelling all day. Holiday booked through TUI UK we stayed 29th Nov to 13th Dec 2018 in the Privileged Honeymoon Junior Suite which I paid £600 extra for. I had also requested that we have a pool view and not ground floor if possible. When we arrived we were given a pool view however, clearly wasn’t a Honeymoon Junior Suite which id paid extra for, it was just a Standard Privileged Room but after 20 hours of travelling and it getting late I thought it will do for the night and we’ll switch the next day, which we did do no problem and we were given the room we paid for. (If a customer pays for a honeymoon suite upgrade and requests a pool view however you do not have a honeymoon suite with a pool view, don’t just give them a random room by the pool it makes no sense, just tell them you don’t have any with a pool view.) The next day when we swapped to the Honeymoon Junior Suite the fridge was broken and we didn’t have the daily drinks in the fridge, or the honeymoon perks. We went to concierge who sorted all this out for us and the next day we had a different fridge, which didn’t really cool down anything but at this point I couldn’t be bothered spending another day chasing up something. Also we met another British couple who had the honeymoon suite opposite us who also complained about a broken fridge a day before we arrived in our room, so by the sounds of it the staff just swapped the fridges around rather than replace. Just remember that the staff thought this was our genuine Honeymoon, luckily it wasn’t we just booked the honeymoon package. All A La Carte restaurant buildings were closed so all A La Carte’s were crammed into 1 building while a new thatched roof was put onto the buildings. Slightly disappointed because we had no email notification of this prior to arrival and the quality of the food was certainly affected. 3 days before we left they all reopened. TUI’s “Rep” Victor is absolutely useless. We were told on the way to the hotel to meet our rep for an introduction in the reception the next day. We did this, and our “introduction” involved giving him our WhatsApp number so we can contact him if we want to book any excursions, this is no exaggeration. All other companies at the hotel provided full tours and details about the hotel and all TUI guests were given nothing but a glorified excursion booker, all other TUI guests were fuming with this (remember though this is not the hotels fault its TUI’s). There is some minor construction work going on close to the entrance, this is right next to the Honeymoon Suite’s actually but its pretty well hidden and they only work during certain times and unless you spend your full day in the room you won’t notice a thing, we didn’t and we were right next to the work. Again, prior notification of this before arrival would have been nice. All these minor issues could have been avoided, this is a great holiday resort and we had a great time but I felt something was missing during our stay and I think that was communication between staff. With better communication between staff all these minor issues would have been avoided. The Good Stuff: After these inconveniences were out of the way we finally managed to start enjoying our holiday. We had a great time at this resort, for us this was just to get away for 2 weeks and do nothing but relax and we managed to do that here without getting bored. Room: Once the room was sorted we loved it! It was very big, huge super king bed, separate living space, huge TV and an added outdoor bath on the balcony all very clean and cleaned daily. Beach: The beach is incredible, rather busy at times but amazing and we didn’t have many issues getting sunbeds any time of the day. Restaurants: A La Carte’s are good, some portion sizes are questionable, but the quality was good. Buffets: Buffet food is great we sometimes preferred this to the A La Carte restaurants for convenience. Pizzeria: Pizzeria really does make a great pizza, and it was hard to walk past without stopping for a few slices. Privilege Restaurant: Privilege Tapas Beach Bar/ Restaurant was the best, having breakfast and lunch here really is worth the privilege upgrade. The food quality was spot on and the views amazing, even just stopping for a drink was worth it. WiFi: WiFi is brilliant! I’ve never been to a holiday resort that has full coverage with high speed WiFi, whether you are in your room or walking on the beach you’ll have a Wifi connection with fast internet speed. Staff: All staff are lovely, and yes some struggle a bit with English but I’d say 75% were good at understanding and communicating in English. Recommendations: Do some research into the standard guest and privilege guest differences. I recommend to anyone booking with TUI to only book this resort if you can book a privileged room during the initial online booking process, don’t book a none privileged room and upgrade when you get there it may be far too expensive. I wouldn’t recommend coming as a none privileged guest. Don’t go to Isla Saona, thousands go there daily. Go the other one Isla Catalina for $50 each, its exactly the same and we had it basically to ourselves. Thanks for a great holiday CGD :)

Good vacation, but VERY European

First let me start by saying we upgraded to the privileged so all this information is from that stand point. The grounds and beach is beautiful, however there are some small details that keep me from giving it a 5. We stayed 7 nights and only got wash clothes in the room 3 of those night only 1 before leaving a note asking for them. Also there were times when the towel hut had no towels and we were told they wouldn't for an hour. The food in the stand alone restaurants is the same stuff basically as the buffet but not as good. We ended up at the buffet every time after eating at the specialty restaurants. And finally the biggest piece of advice to give is if you only speak english expect some issues with the language barrier. This is a VERY European resort and there is very little english spoken by not just guests but workers (we did a lot of hand motions and pointing). This also meant a lot of smoking and cigarette butts on the beach and if you are taking children expect topless women. Other wise we had a great time but probably would not return just because of the language barrier.
