Hotel was beautiful, both rooms and the grounds. Food was great, staff was very friendly and accommodating. We upgraded to a "Privileged" Room which I would highly recommend to anyone staying at the resort.

The place over all is ok, there is no room anywhere in that resort that is quiet at night, shows end around midnight, and beach yoga starts at 6am, loud music almost all night long. The worst part is the food, its sucks, its hard to find anything good to eat. The beach is very nice, snorkeled from the beach, lots of fish.

My husband and I took our honeymoon here. The resort itself was beautiful, the bar staff was exceptional, the food at the restaurants was amazing. Our room however was just okay. The bed wasn't very comfortable, we had cold water the first day and a half in the shower and sinks and we had to request maid service 2 of the 5 days. We loved punta cana and will return someday but maybe to a different resort or pay additional money to upgrade to a nicer hotel room.

13 women stayed at the Catalonia Bravaro Resort May 16 through May 23. The Apple representative "Robinson" did a wonderful job in taking care of us through the week. The beach was beautiful, our room was clean, the staff was very helpful and courteous. We had a problem with our bathroom sink and it was taken care of as soon as we called for help. My daughter had a problem with the door handle to her room and it was also addressed as soon as we called. The food was great with a wide variety of choices. Some of us did excursions and had great times. I cannot wait to return!

Check in was annoying. Had to prove three times that we had pair for the privileged junior deluxe sweet. They couldn't find our reservations even after showing our Apple documents. We asked for two beds with upper floor room. Put us in one bed room with ground floor. We did change rooms and was told that Apple did not pass on this request. Had to call for bath towels several times because none were left in room after maid cleaned. I guess they do not have quality control or a check off list when doing the rooms. The staff at the breakfast and lunch and buffet were not very good. We had to get our own coffee or water each time even though there were staff there to do this at every meal. Very slow. A Russian couple called them sloth. I wanted to go first class on the entire trip and only the flight on united was what I expected. I would rate this vacation as a 1 star at most.

After a day of the ravel, we waited a long time on the shuttle for them to leave for the hotel. When we finally arrived the checkin took forever, even going through privileged check in. Food wasn't very good, beck and pool were amazing! Took forever to get drinks at the bar and no cake around the beach to take orders, we stayed in a privilege room which is located near a night club, never again! The bed shook until 2am pumping music, we were exhausted from lack of sleep. Maid service did the minimum required. We loved the coffee shop and the ambiance of the lounge area.

The hotel was mostly fair to good. We had to change rooms because of some outside repair going on next to our patio. Our second room had a couple of major plumbing issues. They took care of one and the other we just lived with because we didn't want to move to a different room again. Food as generally good. The beasch was not cleaned from the seaweed very well.

The hotel is beautiful and clean. The beach is by far the hotel's best quality. The food was good but not the best - lots of options at the buffet. However, you are only limited to one night at each of the four sit down restaurants, which is ridiculous and inconvenient. When we checked in, our first room did not have working AC. It took two calls, two in person requests and an entire day before we finally just got a new hotel room. The new room was nice, clean and updated - which was certainly not true of the first room. The staff were nice but frankly, not overly helpful or easily available.

Good golf resort but falls short in other areas
EDWARD P.
Mar 27 2016
Nice beach, golf course and grounds. Rooms are dated but clean. Nothing gets fixed we had a ceiling leak for almost the entire trip. There was no hot water for the last three days. Air condition does not really cool the room. Buffet bar service is slow. Alcohol is such a low grade most is not drinkable. Buffet service is poor you can not get a beverage for your life. Buffet food is fair you can get full but that's about it. Specialty restaurants are better and service is good. There is such pressure to go to see their representatives for their vacation club, you are never left alone! We did the presentation that was to take 60 minutes, 2 1/2 hours later after a very hard sell we escaped. They try and get you to upgrade to a decent room at the cost of $70 a day when you get there, if you plan on doing this go to a better resort. The juice bar on the beach and the pizza snack bar are good. If you have any mobility issues this is not the resort for you. Very spread out and the walking to get around is absurd, we were walking over 6 miles a day ( just when we had our phone on us. ) there is a lack of bathrooms around the resort also. Nightly entertainment was fair. I would give this resort a 3 star rating comparing it to the other Apple resort we have been to.

There's nothing more pleasant in a holiday than being continuosly surprised by the potential of the place you have selected. What can you expect more than feeling that all the service rotates around you?! Thanks to a great organization and to the professionalism of each member of the staff, our stay at Catalonia Bavaro Beach, Golf and Casino was memorable. It goes back to my childhood when I first went to a resort and along the years I visited many different locations, but Catalonia Bavaro was among the places where I enjoyed the most my stay. Special merit to this success has to be surely attributed to Yana Zarvanska, from the Guest Relation Department, who worked every day to ensure the highest comfort level for our stay, showing attention to the details and a great passion for excellence. The overall opinion of Catalonia wouldn't be so great without Yana's contribute: she actually aimed to go the extra mile. From the arrival till when we departed the she dedicated herself in a genuine way to the great mission of making us feeling home, checking day by day if all our requests had been accommodated. We are glad they offered us an upgrade to "Privileged", since it really worth every moment. I recommend anyone that is looking for privacy and some extra little care to consider Privileged rooms, that are located closer to the beach, spacious and cozy. During the stay we celebrated my friend's birthday and Yana organized some surprises all the day long, that impressed me and my friend and make her feel happy and special. The resort itself is probably the best in the area and it is sorrounded by a wide golf park and the other resorts are about 1.5 Km distant, so that you actually feel that your privacy is respected, especially when at the beach. Simply amazing. The buffet restaurant was great, with good variety and quality and the Privileged terrace was quiet and comfortable. The different restaurants allow you to avoid turning your dinner a routine and the nice atmosphere and the creativity of the chefs are a welcoming business card, however it is important to say that they look much more like the restaurants of a theme park than typical restaurants. Expect good vibes and creativity, but do not exceed with your expectations concerning the quality of the food. Among the different restaurants (Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Steak House and Caribbean) I loved the Caribbean restaurant, where the dishes were a mix of traditional ingredients with a modern soul. Special mention to Mrs. Ysenia Cabrera, that provided an outstanding service always sharing a smile. Lots of activities and facilities available, with a discrete and respectful entertainment staff. If I would return to Punta Cana, I will certainly consider Catalonia Bavaro for my stay, hoping to receive the same welcoming attentions.

Not bad but could have been better

We've traveled to Punta Cana several times now and stayed and several different resorts, including the Catalonia Royal (adults only side of this resort) and I'd say this resort was definitely average. We upgraded at check-in to the Privileged section to try and get as close of an experience to what we've had at the Royal (traveling with or child this time) and unfortunately, didn't quite get that. Check-in didnt take too long, we arraived at 2pm though and had to wait until 3pm to actually get a room but they quickly took our bags and gave us bracelets when we got there so that we could go to lunch while we waited. As mentioned, we did upgrade to Privileged but we had emailed to the concierge at the Royal ahead of time about doing this as we have been to the resort several times and the price we were quoted was not what they offered at check-in. When we mentioned this and showed the check-in agents the email they ignored it and said what they were offering was the best they could do. We did it anyway for the upgraded room. Or room in building 9 was newly renovated and very nice. I'd recommend doing privileged just for the newer room. My only complaint with our room was that the building is close to Pearl Night Club which plays loud music late into the night but honestly, with the windows closed you could only hear a little base and it didnt bother us or disrupt our sleep. Our bed was a bit firm for my liking and I woke up sore every morning but I have this problem with a lot of hotel beds. Wifi is terrible which if you're on vacation to get away, wasnt too bad. We realized that there was a wireless router right outside our balcony and our signal was a little better if we were on the balcony but you still get dropped frequently. Food was fine, definitely what I've come to expect from all-inclusives. The Main buffet had plenty of options for breakfast and lunch, more so than the beach buffet but we spent most days at the beach buffet because of the location. There was plenty to choose from at the dinner buffet and most everything was good but we only ate their one night. We also tried the Japanese restaurant which my son loved so we went twice and the Caribbean restaurant which was good (tried both of these restaurants before while staying at the Royal so knew they were good). We also tried the Tapas restaurant on the beach and it was decent, desserts were good too. The food at the pizza bar was ok, my son loved eating hot dogs every day and the pizza was fine though a little different (some pizzas have corn and hot dogs on them). We tried to order room service once but it didnt arrive after more than an hour of waiting so we went to a restaurant and there was no sign that it had ever been delivered. The crepe place on the beach was ok and nice for a mid day snack, I wish Ma Loo was closer to the privileged side as I really enjoyed the smoothies but it was quite a trek and only went when we left breakfast right around the time it opened, it also would have been nice if it opened earlier. The beach is lovely and the reason we keep coming back to the Catalonia. The resort is on its own on the beach so it's not crazy busy and crowded like the other resorts more north on the beach lined with resorts. The water also is a little calmer probably because there's little to no boat traffic. it was great for our son who still isnt totally comfortable swimming and being in the water. We would try to get a palapa by 8am but all of them were usually reserved by that point but at least having the privileged beach we were able to get a sun bed everyday. We did see people that would show up later and the beach concierge was always able to get them chairs and shade. On the non privileged beach side, it seemed like everything was reserved very early in the morning. Beach service wasnt great, the beach servers always seemed to skip us when coming around to ask for drink orders but we usually had a bed close to both the regular beach bar and the privileged bar so this wasnt an issue. The pool was nice though it was a struggle to find a chair with any shade if you hadnt reserved something early in the morning. My son loved the kiddie pool but I wish it had more shade both for sitting around the pool and while the kids are in the pool. We tried the kid's club one day and my son had fun but prefered to stay with us during the day. He did love playing with the kid's club teachers and the rest of the kids when they were at the pool though. And has said if we go back, he'd like to go there more. Service was fine, we always tip but that didnt really seem to make a difference. But we will continue to tip because the people work really hard and make so little that giving a couple dollars here and there helps them a lot. All in all, I'd probably return here but only because I love the quietness of the beach despite the fact that I've liked other resorts better. The Royal side is better and privileged doesnt quite compare but its worth upgrading for the newer rooms and less crowded beach area. I also really appreciate that the Catalonia is trying to be ecologically friendly and now uses reusable plastic cups and only gives straws when asked for since they are so bad for the environment.

From my understanding, tips are given to staff for giving good service... in this place it seems that you have to tip first in order for the staff to even acknowledge your existence. I know that as Brits we're used to queing, but it infuriates me to witness people strolling up to the bar and getting served straight away (maybe they have tipped them in advance- somewhat corrupt I feel) when you've clearly been waiting there patiently for 5-10 mins whilst one guy serves and there are 4-5 members of staff having a chat at the back of the bar. Why can't the staff glance up and keep track of how long people have been waiting at the bar and serving in order rather than serving whoever catches their eye first or shouts the loudest? Wi-Fi is terrible! Water sports centre is a joke- we were approached by a member of the water sports staff on the beach. We agreed to do the 'big mable' towable at 2pm the next day. He took our room number which we assumed would be how payment will be made as in the rest of the hotel by charging it to the room. At 1.55pm we arrived to be told that we would be after the group that were just about to go out on the big mabel. We said we'd booked for 2pm, they had no record of the booking. They then asked for payment to which we said that we had no cash on us as we thought it would be charged to the room. He said fine, go get the cash and when you return we will get you out on the big mabel. 20 mins later after returning with the cash (big hotel) we were sat and ignored for 10 mins whilst the same guy filled up plastic bottles with bread to feed the fish. We were then given a disclaimer to sign, acknowledging that we understand the safety rules and guidelines explained to us by the staff - there was no such guidance! At 2.45pm we were then told that we couldn't do it until 3.45pm. At this point we still hadn't had lunch as we were waiting to eat until after. We didn't return at 3.45pm. The Japanese a la carte 'no reservation required'. Arrived at 8.25pm was told our table would be ready at 9.15. Waited over 2 hours 20mins to be sat down and served undercooked rice and questionable seafood along with only being offered a drink after a starter of just sushi since there was no more soup! We still have another 7 days here and hope it improves, I can go on further ranting about the staff, about how the 'rules' are never fully explained and by the way that they don't take no for an answer when they are trying to pull people from their sunloungers to join in with water aerobics etc. but I'm just too tired. More to come, hopefully good, provided that the WiFi stays connected for 2 seconds for me to send this review

The only nice thing about our stay was the beach.. If you’re traveling with kids, beware: not very safe. Several times there was shattered glass on ground and no one cleaned it up for hours! Both my kids got hurt at the kids pool and all I was offered was a trip to their doctor who offered one bandaid per wound and not a bandaid more!!! The person in charge of maintenance, Carlos Melendez, was supposed to come talk to me, but never did. Kids club schedule is bad! They don’t take the kids to swim in the ocean at all, and pool time most mornings doesn’t start till 11:30: that’s too late-sunburn guaranteed. Food is very average and it takes 20-30 minutes to get the server to bring water to the table. Upon arrival I was told we have to share beds with our children even though we requested separate beds. Took a lot out of me to make them provide us with a room where my children can have their own beds! The woman at the front desk was just awful and rude. I could go on and on, definitely will not be returning. I would not recommend this resort. The photo is just one example: this table was placed between my kids’ beds..

It was our 3rd visit in 4 years ( last year prices were way higher) and we had a great time as always. Golf ...Sun and Fun!! They added a I sing karaoke booth in the main lobby by the bar....Great way to record yourself and the unit produces professional videos showing you and a band in background. Entertainment staff were hilarious and always around trying to get peeps to join in., The shows Micheal Jackson....Trapeze and The Retro Show were all fun and well done. Food was great! We stuck to buffet as it had everything the a la carts had but more choices....the steaks there were delicious! Golf course was playing short as the fairways were firm. Our room in 2017 block was comfortable....nothing fancy and we had hot water in case you're curious! The grounds were well taken care of...lots of birds and turtles and fish to feed. What can I say...if the money is there next year...we're back!! Love this place!!
