JUST DON'T! DON'T DO IT. Huge hidden fees, poor quality, and customer service...

On our honeymoon, my husband and I booked Castle Kiahuna Plantation & Beach Bungalows for 2 nights at the rate of $189/night via Hotels.com. We were excited about it. We were charged $55 in tax and service fees totaling $433 which we happily paid. Then, upon getting to the hotel, we were shocked to be charged an additional cleaning/ destination fee of $193! The final charge for this hotel for two nights was $626 making the ACTUAL fee $313/night. The fee of $189/night is a false claim. We were NOT made aware of this until after we booked and paid Hotels.com. Upon trying to work with Hotels.com and Castle Kiahuna on the phone to create a resolution that we could all be happy with, we were surprised to find both parties blamed the other for the miscommunication. Furthermore, upon checking into our room, we found the last guests’ dirty body soap, hair, and hair tie still lying in the shower, despite having been forced to pay $193 for a cleaning fee! We were told by the desk staff that Roy Thompson, the General Manager, would be happy to speak with us when he got back to the office. We called, emailed, called again, and again….no response. Also, it should be noted that there is no air conditioning in the units which means you must open the windows to the outside. The hotel was on a highway. I heard cars coming and going throughout the night in addition to the roosters. This was not ideal at all. We were definitely disappointed with this experience. I am unable to recommend this hotel.

No glass in the windows, be very careful where your unit is = NOISY

We were in unit 89...an upgraded unit, but we didn't upgrade nearly enough. It was on the road and that's extremely important because there is no glass in the windows and it was painfully noisy. The sprinklers would wake us up every morning at 5am with a very loud hissing noise until the air was out of the lines and then the roosters would start crowing at 6am and the traffic noise followed soon after. The unit was nice, the resort was very nice and it would be great if you had one of the units that was by the ocean or in the middle of the property. There is a $180 cleaning fee added also.

Beautiful place to stay in Kauai. The resort has a beach and impressive views (with front beach rooms). The hotel has some rooms reformed but others are a little bit more older and need more maintenance. The staff is really helpful and the swimming pool in the sport centre is great to chill out and there is a slider for the children. Location is excellent, in the south of the island where you can snorkel or do surf if you like it. Poipu Beach (the best one for us) is just few minutes away and you can see turtles and monk seals. The resort is just in front of Poipu Shopping Centre with Starbucks for breakfast and good restaurants for lunch or dinner. And few miles away there is a little town with more shops. Mahalo for this great, magical and wonderful experience!

I just returned home after staying a night at the Kiahuna managed by Castle Resorts. (Note: they have two property managers, one is Castle Resorts, the other is OutRigger.). We have stayed two times previously on the OutRigger side of the property, and had great experiences on those two previous times. This time however, was poor with Castle. To start, this unit compared to the other units was very, very outdated and worn. The couch had a 3” tear in the cushion, had dingy kitchen towels, and yucky old carpeting. The others were in much better condition. We also had a fat cockroach in the living room... I get they are all over Kauai. However, it indicates they have a food source... meaning it isn’t very clean. The biggest issue we had though was the amount of noise at this unit, which was unit #448. We went to bed around 9:30, and heard soooooooo much traffic with this unit being on the driveway and off the main road. There were (what felt like) endless trucks, like delivery trucks, until about 11:30, and the traffic on the road didn’t die down until after midnight. With no AC in the unit, we had to choose to be hot, but have some quiet, or to be cooler (not cool) but irritated and not sleeping. To add to this annoyance, our neighbor arrived back at his unit at 10:00 and talked at full volume until almost midnight. You hear everything in this unit from people turning on the shower, eating dinner, and having what would probably be an acceptable volume level conversation with the greatest of ease. Very let down.

Reserved a room at this resort for one night at an advertised price on hotels.com of $310 including taxes and fees. When I arrived there were $185 additional fees. Buried in the website was information about these fees. I received no help from the resort or hotels.com, even though the first page of the website said "including taxes and fees." Beware!
