good hotel
Jan 07 2017
I would give this hotel 3.5 stars. Food was average on the whole although new years eve special dinner and mexican firsta dinner was very good, as well as the a la carte italian restaurant. You need reservations if you want to eat at surf and turf and it was full while we were there. The pool was crowded during the day but kept clean and in good care. The beach was average but ok for swimming- free kayaks were fun also. A bit crowded because was on a public beach and smoking was permitted which on the beach which I didn't care for. The tennis courts were nice ( 2 clay courts and 4 indoor courts. I took tennis lessons each day which were good. Staff was very helpful and very nice. Good service. The rooms were clean and well kept. The hotel is in a good location close to town. Overall, I enjoyed the hotel and it was a good experience.

Canto del Sol is a small resort with a very small beach. If you are going to enjoy a beach, this is not the hotel for you. In addition, the water at the beach is very dirty and filled with trash so swimming is not a pleasant experience. There are two pools, and they are also very crowded. The employees at the snack bars and bars around the pool are excellent. They work hard to get drinks for everyone and wait on you at the beach, bringing food and drinks. The rooms are nice but simple, no refrigerators, but kept very clean by the staff. The restaurants are nice and it was easy to get a reservations. The food at the buffets was good, and there was no never a line to get in. The location is really great, close to town, and also close to shopping.

They constantly try to sell you time shares and adventure trips. We had ants all over the kitchen, even though our room was "one if the best". The master ceiling was dripping water. Their solution was to move the bed to a different wall.

Canto Del Sol

Our room in the hotel was dated and not very nice. The bed was very firm and we had a difficult time getting a pad to try to make it softer. What Canto Del Sol lacks in up to date facilities, it makes up in excellent service. I was very impressed with the staff energy and service. We spent a lot of time by the swimming pool and the employees were quick to bring drinks. Dinners were great too, staff here are very motivated and fun.

Wondeful place in the sun

We were looking for a totally relaxing vacation in the sun and this was it. The hotel rooms and sahred areas were kept sop clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The small hotel was right on the beach, where we sat under umbrellas and read.

When you walk in they are right on top of you to check you in so you can go and enjoy your time. Everyone is so nice and helpful and when we had a problem they asked no questions and did what had to be done to make us happy. Will be going back again next year.

Comforting beach getaway

this was the best vacation we ever had together. The hotel was exceptional, food excellente, service beyond compare and the staff extremely friendly. The accident that occurred at the end was the only bad spot and did not involve the hotel at all.

Best in PVR

These people bent over backwards to do anything to please us. The attitude of all of the travelers reflected this fact. The quality of the food shocked me at every single meal. Pool area perfect. Tennis lessons were outstanding. Rooms excellent and cool. I managed a Carlson Travel agency and I have run two multi-million dollar kitchens and this was my very best Mexico Hotel experience including PVR, SJO, MZT and CUN. The staff is just outstanding. The Prime Rib melted in your mouth. I can't go back soon enough.

If you would like to be tortured and treated like crap, this is the place for you. We were given 2 rooms (a studio and a 1 br) facing the swimming pool area. Every single nigh of our stay there was live music (for different events playing until 2am to 4am. The speakers were placed facing directly at our rooms (and the surrounding dozen or so above and below). The noise was so bad that we had to stuff socks in between the window and balcony frames to stop them vibrating from the base. Our children and my wife and I got seriously ill from the exhaustion and the garbage staff refused to move us because we were RCI members and not Canto Del Sol timeshare owners who don't have to suffer the noise. After the above the below will seem petty but needs to be mentioned:broken door cabinets, broken air con, dripping taps, filthy old bath, rude staff I can keep going but there is no point.I wish there was a negative score

Time Share units in bad shape
D2wilson, Yakima, Washington

We checked into the Canto Del Sol on December 26, 2018 into our parent's timeshare unit, which is a 2-bedroom unit. The hotel has changed the location of the timeshare units. They were once located outside of the tennis courts. They have since remodeled those units and turned one of the tennis courts into a "luxury pool". They moved the timeshare units into an old part of the hotel that has not been renovated. When you look at the professional photos the hotel puts on a website, they look really nice. That is totally the opposite experience you get as a timeshare owner. Previously, when we stayed next to the tennis courts, we had at least a larger balcony with a view of the tennis courts. Now, the timeshare units face an alley and the balconies are so small you can barely get two chairs on them. The unit itself looked to be at least 30 years old, and the kitchen was so old and dark, I couldn't bring myself to buy food and cook here. The tubs in the bathroom were cracking and peeling badly. The faucets was so old and oxidizing. The beds were the only thing that were half way decent. The rooms were clean, but the hotel obviously doesn't care about its timeshare owners and only cares about the people paying by the night. The maintenance fee is $800 per week and for taking in over $40,000 a year per room, you would think they would invest in remodeling to keep their owners happy. We met another couple who was staying in the timeshare units and they had the same experience. They hated their unit. The Canto needs to take care of their timeshare owners, the people who actually bought into their hotel. The price for the all-inclusive was reasonable, and if we had stayed would have purchased for at least a few nights. I was so disgusted by the room that we only stayed one night and checked out the next morning. Fortunately, we have a friend who lives in Puerto Vallarta and let us stay with him. The lobby and pools were very nice. There is very little beach and if you are looking for ocean time, this is not a good hotel for you as the waves were pretty rough. If you want a good beach, you need to go north to Nuevo Vallarta or south to Mismaloya. The staff is very friendly. The location is very central. It is only a couple miles from the malecon and taking the bus is very easy. The cost is 10 pesos to take the bus to the malecon, which is about $.60. You need exact change to take the bus. If you want to take the taxi, it costs about 80 pesos, or approx. $4.50 (today's exchange rate). The Mega, which is a grocery store, is about 3 blocks away and an easy walk. You can't cash U.S. dollars at the actual banks anymore because you need an account with that bank. You can change money at the "Cambio's" or get cash at the ATM's using your credit or debit card.

The Resort Write up on the suite we were in...... Two-Bedroom Suite Our most expansive accommodations are perfect for families, with two bedrooms featuring one King and two Double beds, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi access, two full private bathrooms, kitchenette and pool view. What was received....Review: The 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms worked very well for us, but definitely not a pool view. One window looked on to a road and parkade and the other window on the external hallway of the wing we were in. The Resort Add: ROOM FEATURES One King and two Double beds - the beds were comfortable Full Kitchen with countertop, stove, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, and blender. - Review: none of this was available. There was a countertop, refrigerator and a very old 2 burner stove. Over the counter was a sign stating the kitchen could be used by timeshare people only Dining and Living Room - very dated and barren but we were glad to have the space for meeting Complimentary wireless Internet access - this was nice but quite spotty Tennis courts view - the tennis courts were across the street and behind another building - no where in view of us! Air conditioning with individual climate control - this was present and there was individual control but quite primitive so too cold when on and too stuffy when off. 32-inch flat-screen TV with cable - There was a TV but we never put it on as there was lots of things to do and we are not great TV people, so not an issue. Two full private bathrooms with shower, hair dryer, and vanity mirrors - It was great having 2 bathrooms. There was 1 attached hair dryer in 1 of the bathrooms. Of greater concern was the change of water temperature in the shower all the time. I think it would be dangerous for a child as it would become scalding hot at different times. The sudden ice cold was annoying but not dangerous. Windows that open - I am not sure if they are referring to the sliding glass door to the deck. Indeed it would open but the deck was unusable as there was a flock of pigeons living on it. They also started cooing etc bright and early every morning! Resort Add: Daily refreshments with: a variety of snacks, 4 bottles of water 500 ml, 4 cans of regular Coke, 2 Diet Coke, 2 Sprite, 6 beer 12 OZ can, 1 White Rum 50 ml, 1 Tequila 50 ml. - Review: This I was quite annoyed at. We got none of it. When I enquired about it, I was told we only got bottles of water every third day. Despite tipping generously and daily we barely got this (2- 500mls when I asked the first time, 3-500mls on the 3rd day and on the 6th day we finally received 2- 1 liter bottles)

We arrived later than originally planned because of the “drone” thing at Gatwick. Staff were very friendly & helpful. Food is generally good and the speciality restaurants are superb. All the staff work really hard and nothing is too much trouble. Cleaning was carried out throughout the day. Rooms were ok but somehow I felt a dampness in the bed & clothes in the closet. My husband disagreed. Entertainment was on during the day & evening. If you do not want to be included then there is the “quiet” pool. The hotel is on the beach which suits some people. Overall it was a good holiday even though we had coughs & colds. I would recommend this hotel.
