good hotel
Jan 07 2017
I would give this hotel 3.5 stars. Food was average on the whole although new years eve special dinner and mexican firsta dinner was very good, as well as the a la carte italian restaurant. You need reservations if you want to eat at surf and turf and it was full while we were there. The pool was crowded during the day but kept clean and in good care. The beach was average but ok for swimming- free kayaks were fun also. A bit crowded because was on a public beach and smoking was permitted which on the beach which I didn't care for. The tennis courts were nice ( 2 clay courts and 4 indoor courts. I took tennis lessons each day which were good. Staff was very helpful and very nice. Good service. The rooms were clean and well kept. The hotel is in a good location close to town. Overall, I enjoyed the hotel and it was a good experience.

Canto del Sol is a small resort with a very small beach. If you are going to enjoy a beach, this is not the hotel for you. In addition, the water at the beach is very dirty and filled with trash so swimming is not a pleasant experience. There are two pools, and they are also very crowded. The employees at the snack bars and bars around the pool are excellent. They work hard to get drinks for everyone and wait on you at the beach, bringing food and drinks. The rooms are nice but simple, no refrigerators, but kept very clean by the staff. The restaurants are nice and it was easy to get a reservations. The food at the buffets was good, and there was no never a line to get in. The location is really great, close to town, and also close to shopping.

Will not return

They constantly try to sell you time shares and adventure trips. We had ants all over the kitchen, even though our room was "one if the best". The master ceiling was dripping water. Their solution was to move the bed to a different wall.

Canto Del Sol

Our room in the hotel was dated and not very nice. The bed was very firm and we had a difficult time getting a pad to try to make it softer. What Canto Del Sol lacks in up to date facilities, it makes up in excellent service. I was very impressed with the staff energy and service. We spent a lot of time by the swimming pool and the employees were quick to bring drinks. Dinners were great too, staff here are very motivated and fun.

Wondeful place in the sun

We were looking for a totally relaxing vacation in the sun and this was it. The hotel rooms and sahred areas were kept sop clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. The small hotel was right on the beach, where we sat under umbrellas and read.

When you walk in they are right on top of you to check you in so you can go and enjoy your time. Everyone is so nice and helpful and when we had a problem they asked no questions and did what had to be done to make us happy. Will be going back again next year.

Comforting beach getaway

this was the best vacation we ever had together. The hotel was exceptional, food excellente, service beyond compare and the staff extremely friendly. The accident that occurred at the end was the only bad spot and did not involve the hotel at all.

Best in PVR
Jan 31 2014
These people bent over backwards to do anything to please us. The attitude of all of the travelers reflected this fact. The quality of the food shocked me at every single meal. Pool area perfect. Tennis lessons were outstanding. Rooms excellent and cool. I managed a Carlson Travel agency and I have run two multi-million dollar kitchens and this was my very best Mexico Hotel experience including PVR, SJO, MZT and CUN. The staff is just outstanding. The Prime Rib melted in your mouth. I can't go back soon enough.

Awful, awful, awful!!! Don’t go!! We seemed to have quite a cheap deal and I’m still devastated that vibe spent my hard earned money coming here. Food is ok, nothing special but ok gets a bit boring. Range of drinks and cocktails very good. Service very good. Rooms poor, no fridge or drinks on room all very basic. The entertainment, which is rammed full in your face, is terrible and there is no quiet bar to escape from it. I had enough by day 4 of my fortnight, I even contemplated buying an early flight home.

we loved this hotel a bit dated but spotless we stayed in room 349 had a sea view and loved it entertainment lacking nothing after 9.30 all the staff work so hard please make sure you tip them. the surf and turf was the best the Italian and Mexican were also good we enjoyed all the food and the waiters are so hard working. I would like to thank the Maids and Tony and Antonio from guest services for making my birthday so special they decorated our room and the surf and turf for my birthday cake we had a wonderful time. to all the bar staff who work so hard service with a smile we thank you. too many names to mention you all deserve a pay rise nothing is too much trouble. All drinks are top names pity about it being a no smoking hotel only allowed to smoke at front of hotel and top of stairs at the beach or by the tennis courts or just get a sunbed on beach were you can smoke. leave your toiletries at home big mega supermarket 5 mins walk from hotel were you can by all the big name brands at half the price we pay back home. If you smoke buy your ciggies at the shop 1 min from hotel 200 for £18.00. We will definitely return to this hotel .

Good value for money

Just returned from a two week holiday at the Canto Del Sol and I must say that it offers terrific value for money. My wife and I have been lucky enough to have visited the Caribbean side of Mexico as well as the usual all inclusive around this area. The drawback usually being that you are stuck in the complex for the entire fortnight. The attraction here, apart from it being on the other side of Mexico, was that you could get out and about and visit the local town and surrounding areas. First off though let's talk about the hotel. Ok the rooms may need a lick of paint and a bit of an update in places but they are kept spotless in terms of cleanliness. Rooms don't come with a fridge so you don't have anywhere to keep cold drinks if you fancy one in the middle of the night! Every couple of days you get left bottles of water which you can refill at a top up station in the main lobby. The beds were comfy and the bathroom and it's facilities are more than adequate. Out of your room all the facilities are very good. There are two pools. The main pool and one round the back, which is the place to go for a little peace. You'll have no problem getting a sunbed as there are plenty to go round. Food wise, the main restaurant is good and has plenty to offer. The al a carte restaurant's are very good too. They have three different nights, Mexican, Italian and surf and turf. We got seven "tickets" so managed a "posh nosh," every other night. I recommend the fusion soup in the Mexican! Excellent! Out and about you can get a taxi right outside the hotel. The staff will call one over and record you going out and tick you in when you return. But don't worry as we went out a lot and felt perfectly safe. ( And trust me, there are no problems. It's safe). A taxi into the old town will cost about 80-90 pesos one way. But make sure you fix a price with the driver first. There are plenty of taxis at both ends so you won't have a problem. Just note though that if it rains the price doubles! (Though it's still cheap!). If you're feeling a little more adventurous, and for the bargain price of 7 pesos each, you can go as far as you want. Into the town, or through for a tour into the mountains and back. That's one way of seeing the real Mexico! The old town is your typical tourist town. Good for gifts and a meal and drink. Prices are more than reasonable. If you go the other way, you can visit the marina, which comes with the usual tourist shops and restaurants and, crocodiles! Heading back from the marina you'll see the Liverpool shopping mall and a Wal-Mart! Back at the hotel there's a choice of day trips that you can book there. Finally, let's mention the staff. They are some of the most helpful, hardworking pleasant people I have met. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Thank you!

Great for families

Why it's great for young families: All pools are shallow, deepest water is 3'11", and there are pools of 18", and 2" depth, as well as a splash pad/playground with shallow water. The main pool has a shallower step running around the perimeter. The luxury/infinity pool has no step but it is right beside the splash pad. The luxury pool also has more shade, it stays cooler. Outside of the hotel and within walking distance are several stores which can sell you whatever you broke or forgot, and there is an ATM around the corner that dispenses pesos. The kids club offers passionate staff and a full activity roster but you have to stay on the premises and check in on your kids often. The hotel can arrange a sitter for you with notice for 150 MXN per child per hour. We tried the surf and turf and the Mexican a la carte restaurants, we liked the Mexican enough to do it twice. Three words: Chiles en nogada. Nightly entertainment was good, I thought it would be too old for my young kids but they got to know some of the dancers and enjoyed seeing their costumes. I found the staff very pleasant, most of them very motivated. It was a good opportunity to practice my Spanish, though there were always English speaking staff about. Most of the other tourists that I encountered were Mexican, but some from UK and USA. Tipping the maid 20 MXN resulted in all of my stuff being organized and put away, not just the beds/towels, that was a nice touch for a small-ish tip. It was low season and I enjoyed not having to wait in lines or deal with crowds, but at times it did feel like I was the only one in the restaurant. Beach wasn't crowded either. I would return here. It was my first time in PVR. I liked the Mexican flavour of the hotel as well as the proximity to the PVR/Malecon for a diversion. I have stayed in Cancun/Cozumel/Playa del Carmen/Tulum and lots of other non-resort Mexican cities. I liked PVR the best so far for travelling with a young family.
