Quiet and Relaxing
JANICE M.
Feb 27 2019
We chose the Camino Real as a last minute trip. We wanted a smaller hotel without all inclusive. The hotel is beautifully designed but has a lot of steps without hand rails. That can be very limiting for some people. The breakfast buffet is very good, we didn't try any of the restaurants in the evenings as we went in to town to enjoy the many restaurants. The hotel itself is showing wear. The WIFI is only available in the lobby, there are two tv channels in english, and no clocks in the rooms. The idea is to unplug and relax. Most of the guests are older and the resort is extremely quiet - so if you are looking for action and music at the pool, you will not find it here. The hotel is located on the beach, the pool is beautiful and enormous, and the view is perfect. Please note; you can only exchange $100 USD a day, so if you are going on excursions and need cash, plan ahead. Another guest commented on not having coffee early in the morning - and that was a complaint of mine as well. Watching the sunrise with a cup of coffee is wonderful, but coffee isn't available until 7am, and no coffee maker in the rooms. Overall, a very nice place to visit, we will return.

The hotel is just the right size, small enough to be laid back and comfortable, not overcrowded. But large enough to offer superb amenities and excellent service. Breakfast buffet is great, evening meal selection is fair. The only good option for dinner is the beachfront, candlelit restaurant which requires a reservation.

The main restaurant served an excellent breakfast, the fresh fruit, juice, and omelet bar was excellent. The seaside restaurant was beautiful and excellent for dinner the two nights we dined there. I thought the evening meals served at the main restaurant, although not terrible, were a little lacking, both in the menu offered and quality. We really enjoyed everything else about our stay. The pool area is fantastic.

We stayed at the Camino Real Zaashila 15 years ago for our honeymoon and it was wonderful. It's now missing the mark in several areas. Good customer service skills were lacking from the front desk staff at most times. Our general questions on things like water quality in the hotel were not answered truthfully... we were told to buy the bottled water, when in actuality, the water from the hotel tap is of good quality and drinkable without issue. The rooms have old, uncomfortable beds. Our room lock broke the 1st night there and we were told we had to move to another room without much help from the staff. And, the new room wasn't cleaned properly until the next day.

We had a great time at the camino. It's just the right size - not too big/crowded and not so small it has nothing to offer. The staff was friendly and the food was amazing. I just wish the wifi was free.

We have been at this hotel several times and loved it, however, we are older now and with health difficulties walking up and down the stairs was rough. The meals were not up to par as previous years. The menus never change, no Authentic Mexican cusine, the drinks were very weak, at times seemed like there was NO alcohol in them. We were not informed about the mini bar being part of the All Inclusive and the Bottled Water in the room as part of the deal. On our previous visits there was never a Convention group or if there were we were never bothered by the loudness of the people. There was so much loud music till 4 in the morning on two of the days. That is uncalled for really at any hotel. With that exception I would not recommend this hotel to people of our ages. Too many stairs and we are not up to it. We did enjoy the week of beautiful weather and the hotel in general. Thank you.

We were very disappointed that the restaurants were not available at times due to a convention that was taking place there. I would not stay anywhere in the future when the hotel has a convention going on. The convention was loud and the people were drunk and rude. But we do enjoy the hotel normally and have stayed there often. apple is great

Very nice hotel on a private beach. It does help if you speak Spanish for this hotel. We were able to make our wants known with the help of Isasic and Enrique from the hotel. Room service was great and always on time, very good selection on the menu. Great service at the beach as we had meet Enrique at dinner the first night. He watched for us and help greatly. The room had a great balcony with a table and 2 chairs. The rooms were cleaned daily and very good service. If you are expecting man things to do this is not the hotel, it is very relaxing and has the feel of Mexico. The message that we had was great and relaxing. It is just 68 pesos into town for shopping. This destination feels very safe as it was 2 women traveling for a getaway for sun and relation

This hotel is perfect if you like peace and quiet, which is exactly what I was looking for in a vacation. No annoying music at the pool, no intrusions from an activity staff urging you to limbo or do water aerobics. Uncrowded and a real hidden gem.

Kind of loved it - if you like a quieter resort

The resort is quite lovely, rooms could be updated a bit but overall beds are great, large bathrooms and beautiful view. We were in room 46 and could actually get internet even though its really only in the lobby. We were there from March 5 - to March 19th and the avg temperature was about 32 celcius... air conditioning was great in rooms. I loved lunches the best but dinners and breakfasts were good... although after a couple weeks a few more options would have been helpful. Service everywhere was great. Perhaps the nicest staff at any resort I've been to. However Jaunita was my favorite. My only criticisms were... in 2019 you need internet throughout resort, and they ran out of seafood soup at lunch for 4 straight days. The beach is awesome with lots of palapas ... but depending day, waves can be a problem. Hotel is cab friendly in getting to lots of other places if you want, and 5 minute walk from some nice restaurant's like the famous Vienna. Would seriously recommend Camino Real Zaashila

Definitely NOT a tourist trap / Wow! Wow! Cool!

You are a world traveller? You want to rest and swim and eat well? You need to set your eyes on beauty at human proportions? Here you are! Small. No music. Go MCs. No loud activities. Quality guests. Quality staff +++. Very good food. Temperature extra (end of Feb 2019). For a few extra dollars, get a room with a private pool. It's totally worth it. And do reserve Azul restaurant a few times. IMPORTANT - small children and people who don't know how to swim: the sea gets deep only after a few steps. But the pool is extra long and wonderful! If you're looking for trouble or noise or tchik-a-boom: go elsewhere. Please don't change Camino Real! You have my 5 stars.

2nd time and still love it!!

My husband and I spent another wonderful week at the Camino. We were there two years ago and feel in love with everything about it. We even met a couple we saw two years ago. So many repeat customers. The quietness, the view, the service and the all round general feel. I agree with some others that say the rooms need some upgrading, but nothing that hampered our trip. We were very happy with the service from Alan at the from desk who was helpful is arranging a change of room. It is not that we did not like our first room, but we wanted the same view of both the beach and pool we had 2 years ago. You cannot beat the view!!! We were in room 72 which was close to everything. The breakfast buffet was good, but don't expect a huge selection like bigger resorts. We ate at the supper buffet a couple times and they were okay, not a big selection either. Both dinner restaurants were good, especially the one overlooking the beach. We ordered room service twice and it was very good. Our favourite meals were lunch. The view was amazing, the coconut shrimp was the best we have ever had. The burgers, garlic shrimp and club sandwich were also a favourite. Drinks and drink service at the pool, bar and beach was excellent. Juan and Aresinio we very friendly and attentive. Also liked that they serve beer in cans and did not use plastic straws in the mixed drinks. This Camino also serves top shelf liquor like grand marnier, bombay gin, etc. I conclusion, I had read reviews about stomach issues. We had no problems and did not hear of any while were were there (Feb 22/19) We will definitely return to Camino as it seems to have everything we love.

Past reviews have not done justice to Camino Real

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would go back. We were there for two full weeks. While the resort was a bit busier than they had planned for (spring break for a lot of Canada), we would definitely go back. Previous reviews had led us to conclude that we would be food poisoned and would not enjoy our visit one iota. Au contrare. We enjoyed the food, did not get sick and felt overall it was very good value. The views were spectacular, the water was great, the bed was very comfortable (Mexican beds are often as hard as a rock), and the snorkeling to the left as you look at the water was very good. The only issue we would have is that the end of February, beginning of March is a bit too warm for us cold blooded Canadians, which of course is not the fault of the resort!!

My husband and I stayed in the Camino Real Zaashila at the end of February/beginning of March and thought it was perfect. The grounds and the hotel itself are absolutely stunning and it's separate enough from the other resorts on the strip that you don't feel like you're in a tourist area. We found the hotel quiet during our stay and we were so appreciative that there was no loud music or partying going on. We enjoyed beautiful outdoor breakfasts with ammaazinggg food every day, wonderful room service (try the shrimp tacos! I was addicted) and great lunches and dinners at their two restaurants. There wasn't a ton of food diversity since the resort is smaller and they use a lot of the same menus on different nights, but we didn't mind at all. We loved the food we had and didn't mind having one or two things twice. The rooms were bright and clean and we found the beds really comfortable. They were so great with helping us with whatever we needed. Also the staff were all so lovely!!! The bartenders and servers who work around the pool and beach were always sooo funny and kind. We really enjoyed speaking to them. There were some great excursions available as well. We did an eco-tourism trip to release baby sea turtles (seasonal. Great if you're there during that time! Includes a trip to an iguana sanctuary and a tour of a family's chocolate shop.) and snorkeling. I will say that the ocean was very hard to swim in. The current was really rough making it tough to enjoy. But the beautiful beach and the sounds of the crashing waves made up for that. Lots of beautiful bird sounds! It may be annoying to some as they can be quite loud in the morning, but I loved it. Overall, I think this was the perfect, quiet getaway that we needed! Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
