The main restaurant served an excellent breakfast, the fresh fruit, juice, and omelet bar was excellent. The seaside restaurant was beautiful and excellent for dinner the two nights we dined there. I thought the evening meals served at the main restaurant, although not terrible, were a little lacking, both in the menu offered and quality. We really enjoyed everything else about our stay. The pool area is fantastic.

We stayed at the Camino Real Zaashila 15 years ago for our honeymoon and it was wonderful. It's now missing the mark in several areas. Good customer service skills were lacking from the front desk staff at most times. Our general questions on things like water quality in the hotel were not answered truthfully... we were told to buy the bottled water, when in actuality, the water from the hotel tap is of good quality and drinkable without issue. The rooms have old, uncomfortable beds. Our room lock broke the 1st night there and we were told we had to move to another room without much help from the staff. And, the new room wasn't cleaned properly until the next day.

We had a great time at the camino. It's just the right size - not too big/crowded and not so small it has nothing to offer. The staff was friendly and the food was amazing. I just wish the wifi was free.

We have been at this hotel several times and loved it, however, we are older now and with health difficulties walking up and down the stairs was rough. The meals were not up to par as previous years. The menus never change, no Authentic Mexican cusine, the drinks were very weak, at times seemed like there was NO alcohol in them. We were not informed about the mini bar being part of the All Inclusive and the Bottled Water in the room as part of the deal. On our previous visits there was never a Convention group or if there were we were never bothered by the loudness of the people. There was so much loud music till 4 in the morning on two of the days. That is uncalled for really at any hotel. With that exception I would not recommend this hotel to people of our ages. Too many stairs and we are not up to it. We did enjoy the week of beautiful weather and the hotel in general. Thank you.

We were very disappointed that the restaurants were not available at times due to a convention that was taking place there. I would not stay anywhere in the future when the hotel has a convention going on. The convention was loud and the people were drunk and rude. But we do enjoy the hotel normally and have stayed there often. apple is great

Very nice hotel on a private beach. It does help if you speak Spanish for this hotel. We were able to make our wants known with the help of Isasic and Enrique from the hotel. Room service was great and always on time, very good selection on the menu. Great service at the beach as we had meet Enrique at dinner the first night. He watched for us and help greatly. The room had a great balcony with a table and 2 chairs. The rooms were cleaned daily and very good service. If you are expecting man things to do this is not the hotel, it is very relaxing and has the feel of Mexico. The message that we had was great and relaxing. It is just 68 pesos into town for shopping. This destination feels very safe as it was 2 women traveling for a getaway for sun and relation

This hotel is perfect if you like peace and quiet, which is exactly what I was looking for in a vacation. No annoying music at the pool, no intrusions from an activity staff urging you to limbo or do water aerobics. Uncrowded and a real hidden gem.

Our family, five adults and two little ones enjoyed a fabulous stay at Camino Real on our Apple vacation. Plane and transportation were quick and easy. Only snafue was not being able to get our assigned seats earlier.. It caused a lot of stress not having family together. We understand you are working on that. Only other suggestion was to ask Camino Real to bring back the childrens menu. It became difficult to get lunch and dinner for them with only adult menu. Staff of hotel and Apple could not have been more friendly and family oriented.

Quick observations re recent stay at Camino Real Zaashila in Huatulco

We have stayed at Zaashila many times. Because the occupancy rate was so low the week of April 14th they closed the beach bar some days and also the Chez Binni dining room. This was disappointing and would make us question another stay at Zaashila. We also noticed the lounge cushions around the pool and room balcony were not being cared for - they were often covered with bird poop. Maintenance seems to have slipped the last couple of years - too bad as it's a beautiful facility. regards, Ann K Peterson

Our room was perfectly situated. We were in #46 over looking the beautiful beach & pool. This hotel is definitely NOT for anyone with mobility issues. There are no elevators & the hotel is on many different levels - which I absolutely loved! Our room was HUGE. There was a massive bathroom with a separate area for the toilet, a great well lit mirrored area to apply make-up, etc. The staff could not have been more helpful. I got to know a few staff members as we ate at the restaurants on site every night. Juvenile, Arsenio, Andrea, Juanita & many more wonderful staff that I can't remember their names. The beach restaurants were wonderful too. As soon as you would sit down, there was a basket of taco chips, salsa & guacamole! We basically ate practically everything on the menu. Never had one complaint. The bars were well stocked with anything you would desire. We loved the Traditional Tequila!! We arrived on Dec. 31st. The New Year's eve celebration was top rate. There were soooo many food stations including lobster! At midnight, there was a spectacular fireworks display. What a night to remember.

Great place to visit would go again

In all fairness we we rented a condo for 3 weeks over Christmas. The hotel and condo owners are currently in a war. The first two weeks we were treated horribly with staff constantly trying to intimidate us the last week wasn’t as bad. When we booked we were suppose to pay 300 pesos for the day to use the hotels pool and chairs and everything else however once we got there it became 800 pesos each for 9-5pm. We are a family of four so we decided not to pay everyday it was too expensive. We did a contract from the hotel stating 300 pesos a day which included daily cleaning which the hotel would not honour. They also increased cleaning to 800 pesos each time which was suppose to be included. They staff try to make your visit as uncomfortable as they can. They even lack human decency there is a steep hill you have to climb to bring your groceries my sons bag ripped and things started rolling down the hill a staff member on a golf cart decided to drive as close as he could to the food without running it over and just sit and wait not willing to help a child. Each day was a battle with a staff members there. They even tried to kick us condo renters off the beach however beaches in Mexico are all public this did not deter them at all. We ended up buying blankets and chairs and sitting on a far corner of the beach after many days of fighting with them they left us alone on the beach. Thankfully we had a beautiful condo to hide in since condo renters are not allowed to walk around the property. The general manager of this hotel when he reads the reviews he always says talk to the condo owner well we had a contract from the hotel and condo owner and the hotel violated their part of the contract.

Time for a short review Dec 25 2018 to Jan 1st 2019, 7 days all-inclusive vacation Camino Real Zaashila (Huatulco) Pro: Nice, small, well maintained resort Great views from rooms and entire resort, two of the three restaurants are very near the beach! Very good food. Special at Azul restaurant AND, I will mention something “strange”: the appetizers were 5 stars, no comment, but! To big! Almost did not need the main course! (Many thanks to Mauricio The Capitan, Gerardo, Adriana end others - I do not remember the names) Quiet place: two good “jazz”, one Mexican music and one “local fiesta” nights (more that promised) Very nice pool and an “OK” beach Cons: New Year night disappointing. The clown almost two hours was boring for the Spanish speaking tables, IMAGINE for the others! Rooms (huge) need badly to be updated! (good mattress) Ocean is deep just feet from the beach, no snorkeling place AND I had a really bad experience with “Sand Flies”. I have seen this before but was not “attacked”, this time many in the resort had big problems! For management! Please do something to kell the “sand flies”! If possible! For future tourist bring insect repellents (more than one type! You will thank me!)

Nice stay overall, some room for improvement

We visited early to mid-December for two weeks. Crowd was mostly Canadians and 50+, a few families and then groups of nationals on the weekends. Check-in and Check-out: Easy, and quick. Front desk was also helpful overall when asking questions or getting help (change to smaller peso notes, directions) in general. We went All-inclusive and there were no issues or surprises arriving or departing. Front Desk - 9/10. Room: King Oceanfront with plunge pool, as expected - exactly like the website shows. Overall a bit dated with a few odd items, but totally fine. I would say more storage is needed (as we stayed 2 weeks) but 4 slightly shallow drawers in a credenza is really all there was other than the entrance closet. Mini-bar was included with AI and was refilled daily. In-room safe worked well and fit items needed. Bathroom had two separate sinks so getting ready was a breeze - shower was only okay as they have rainfall shower heads that are very close to the wall. I am 6ft and it was a touch hard to get a "real" shower but no issues with water pressure and/or hot water. Also, clear glass door to toilet, when will this be outlawed? ;-) Our room had the option of being adjoining to the room next door and when it was occupied it was fairly easy to hear your neighbors through the closed doors. Our room had the plunge pool and was oceanfront and it was the best part of the stay easily. Get it if you stay here - pool cleaned daily and the beach servers will come right to your pool with food and beverages. Just a note that they have Ocean view and Oceanfront plunge pool rooms, oceanfront is to the side and are much quieter, ocean view look over the pool and hotel events on the lawn, so choose wisely. Wi-Fi is NOT in rooms (even if the website and TripAdvisor say it is), not even at a cost. Some rooms may get it due to location being closer to the Front Desk areas but that is it - Wi-Fi also not at pool, beach club or beach palapas as an FYI. Room 8.5/10 due to plunge pool, without pool I would say 6.5/10. Location and hotel areas: Conveniently laid out but still with a fair amount of stairs and some steep ramps into certain locations - if you have any sort of mobility issue. Very pretty and scenic and the website pictures represent the hotel well. Ocean was never really busy and is less busy than other popular hotels in Tangolunda bay (as we were told by the guests at Dreams when they climb over the rocks to come to the CRZ beach to get away from the crowds). Getting into the ocean was fine but similar to hotel access - if you have mobility issues you may have an issue getting into/out of the ocean due to the steep drop off that is about 8-10 feet into the water. We had no issues with surf or ocean access/swimming and were out there almost every day. Chair reserving (palapas at beach, pool and beach club) happened every single morning. I literally didn't see the front row of palapas without towels, fairly early, end to end each and every day. Regulars get their spot early then come and go all day and you will see spots reserved with nobody there due to this. Staff also reserve some spots for their regulars so even spots that don't have any personal items can, in fact, be reserved for hours. It is unfortunate but not totally unexpected. We retreated to our room pool after the first few days to avoid this. There will always be a spot to sit but not the premium spots is the takeaway. Vendors come to the beach palapas daily (and even to your plunge pool room) so if you don't like that it is a con, if you want to buy silver or trinkets than I guess it is a pro. Nothing too pushy. Location/convenience - 7/10 Food was pretty good, I would say easily above average for All Inclusive fare. Breakfast was pretty standard but never opened at 7am as advertised, more like 7:30ish and sometimes they are still cooking the buffet food for the buffet stations at 7:30, so empty chaffing dishes when you get there. Service was spotty unless you are those loud types that move 3 tables together and take over - which happened fairly often. Meals at dinner were good at both locations and service starts out pretty good but goes downhill the longer you stay (unless you are the loud crew that servers can't escape and they end up sacrificing the quiet smaller groups). We, as a couple, had to leave 3 times at dinner as once we finished our entrees, it was hard to get a server to pay attention to you. Room service was painful at times, again the food was pretty good but actually getting what your ordered (or thought you ordered) was a challenge. I even had to give up once completely as I just couldn't get my limited Spanish to place the order with confidence (despite menus even being included in English don’t trust that the person you are talking to knows English). Food - 8-8.5/10, service 5-6/10. As mentioned we were at CRZ early to mid-December and this year had a lot of "no-see-ums, mosquitoes, sandflies, etc.). My wife and I were bitten quite badly before really knowing, so I assume mostly the smaller no-see-ums. My legs got destroyed, hundreds of bites, very itchy and the worst I have ever seen it in my life (I *was* one of those people that just didn't get bit on my last 10 years of going to Mexico but I guess it finally caught up to me). Some people were fine, but there were a lot of folks with some level of red marks/bites during our stay. I am told it is rare for the area but none the less, it may make us never return to the area at this time of year unfortunately. This is probably the reason I can't go over a 3/5 overall for my review as it was a huge inconvenience - there were discussions among guests of possible late end to rainy season, less spraying in the hotel areas for pests, etc. Overall, I think if meal service was better, no bugs (or DRASTICALLY less bugs) and Wi-Fi was available in the rooms I could see myself coming back. Overall it was nice but there are many locations that are just as nice, so it may not make the forever-place list but it was good to visit and experience the CRZ.
