Should Have Been Better

We stayed at the Camino Real Zaashila 15 years ago for our honeymoon and it was wonderful. It's now missing the mark in several areas. Good customer service skills were lacking from the front desk staff at most times. Our general questions on things like water quality in the hotel were not answered truthfully... we were told to buy the bottled water, when in actuality, the water from the hotel tap is of good quality and drinkable without issue. The rooms have old, uncomfortable beds. Our room lock broke the 1st night there and we were told we had to move to another room without much help from the staff. And, the new room wasn't cleaned properly until the next day.

We had a great time at the camino. It's just the right size - not too big/crowded and not so small it has nothing to offer. The staff was friendly and the food was amazing. I just wish the wifi was free.

We have been at this hotel several times and loved it, however, we are older now and with health difficulties walking up and down the stairs was rough. The meals were not up to par as previous years. The menus never change, no Authentic Mexican cusine, the drinks were very weak, at times seemed like there was NO alcohol in them. We were not informed about the mini bar being part of the All Inclusive and the Bottled Water in the room as part of the deal. On our previous visits there was never a Convention group or if there were we were never bothered by the loudness of the people. There was so much loud music till 4 in the morning on two of the days. That is uncalled for really at any hotel. With that exception I would not recommend this hotel to people of our ages. Too many stairs and we are not up to it. We did enjoy the week of beautiful weather and the hotel in general. Thank you.

We were very disappointed that the restaurants were not available at times due to a convention that was taking place there. I would not stay anywhere in the future when the hotel has a convention going on. The convention was loud and the people were drunk and rude. But we do enjoy the hotel normally and have stayed there often. apple is great

Very nice hotel on a private beach. It does help if you speak Spanish for this hotel. We were able to make our wants known with the help of Isasic and Enrique from the hotel. Room service was great and always on time, very good selection on the menu. Great service at the beach as we had meet Enrique at dinner the first night. He watched for us and help greatly. The room had a great balcony with a table and 2 chairs. The rooms were cleaned daily and very good service. If you are expecting man things to do this is not the hotel, it is very relaxing and has the feel of Mexico. The message that we had was great and relaxing. It is just 68 pesos into town for shopping. This destination feels very safe as it was 2 women traveling for a getaway for sun and relation

This hotel is perfect if you like peace and quiet, which is exactly what I was looking for in a vacation. No annoying music at the pool, no intrusions from an activity staff urging you to limbo or do water aerobics. Uncrowded and a real hidden gem.

Our family, five adults and two little ones enjoyed a fabulous stay at Camino Real on our Apple vacation. Plane and transportation were quick and easy. Only snafue was not being able to get our assigned seats earlier.. It caused a lot of stress not having family together. We understand you are working on that. Only other suggestion was to ask Camino Real to bring back the childrens menu. It became difficult to get lunch and dinner for them with only adult menu. Staff of hotel and Apple could not have been more friendly and family oriented.

Quick observations re recent stay at Camino Real Zaashila in Huatulco

We have stayed at Zaashila many times. Because the occupancy rate was so low the week of April 14th they closed the beach bar some days and also the Chez Binni dining room. This was disappointing and would make us question another stay at Zaashila. We also noticed the lounge cushions around the pool and room balcony were not being cared for - they were often covered with bird poop. Maintenance seems to have slipped the last couple of years - too bad as it's a beautiful facility. regards, Ann K Peterson

The hotel provides a very relaxing vacation without the hub bub of the typical all inclusive. The pool and beach area are great and many of the resort visitors are repeat vacationers

We stayed from Jan. 6-13, 2018, our third visit to Huatulco's Tangolunda Bay, and this was our favourite spot, set on its own private beach on the far side of a rocky cove where you could even snorkel right off the shore. We brought our own masks, rather than rent ones through the hotel. The water is clear and perfect for swimming, not too wavy on the days we stayed. We enjoyed walking along the uncrowded beach every day, but did not climb over the rocks leading to the adjacent beach where Dreams and Barcelo are located because it looked a bit dangerous and you could see everything from the rocks. All rooms have ocean views and we loved looking out from our third-floor balcony to the surrounding villas on the hillside and the ocean, particularly the sunrises. Temps were consistently hot and sunny every day, which you don't always get in January on the Caribbean side. Thankfully the previously mentioned construction at restaurants was completed, so we enjoyed several dinners and daily lunches in the ocean front seafood restaurant as well as breakfasts and dinners in the ocean front buffet restaurant. This is a very quiet resort with minimal nightly entertainment (a duo played in the restaurant one night) and no organized daily activities, but the beach and pool and setting are so lovely that we didn't miss that. We took one organized Snorkelling/Sunset Cruise in a small boat, which was pleasant, but it wasn't a party boat by any means, which suited us fine. Food, drinks, and service were of a high standard, except for somewhat slow service in the Mexican a la carte restaurant, but maybe we just hit a bad night. Waiting to sign bills for all-inclusive service was a pain -- they should get a better system and deal with the exceptions to the rule, rather than the majority. All in all, a lovely relaxing holiday that met all our priorities.

Lovely small resort - great for a quiet get-away!

We visited Camino Real Zaashila the first week of December 2017. When we arrived we were HORRIFIED when informed that the hotel was under construction and several areas would be closed - including the famous ocean front buffet. While checking in you had to speak over the sound of jackhammers breaking up the concrete floors in different areas in the resort. Sound like a vacation from hell? Well - actually no - it was not. The grounds are lovely, the architecture quite special and the staff are excellent. The food is regional-authentic and well prepared. Make sure you try the grasshoppers in your omelette! The resort was not too busy (probably due to construction) so service was excellent. You never had to wait for a table and when they closed down the seafood restaurant overlooking the beach to start renovations there, they moved all the tables out onto the sand for a lovely beach experience. The pool is beautiful, well maintained and quite large. The beach looks lovely, although you must practice extreme caution due to riptides that appear on windy days. Not the best beach for children or inexperienced swimmers. As a disabled senior with limited mobility, I found the resort difficult to navigate due to it's hillside location. You must be able to navigate stairs to go anywhere. They have a wheelchair ramp from the main level to the pool and beach, but the incline is too steep to navigate in a wheelchair. I had to get out and walk, while my husband pushed the empty wheelchair up and down the ramp. Fortunately I am able to walk short distances so it was only a mild inconvenience. Conclusion: My husband and I will probably pay a return visit to the Camino Real Zaashila, but will DEFINATELY check for construction before we book. :-)

I had a nice 12 nights stay there in November last year. The stuff is amazing, hard working nice people. There were some construction work going during my stay but the place is even better now after that.... The hotel is very quiet, secluded in a nice bay, no annoying boom-boom music or anything... basically that is the main reason I chose the Camino real. I had a very relaxing time there. The food choices might not be as wide as a 1200 room hotel in Cancun but there are many other choices to eat. La Crucecita and Santa Cruz are a 10 minutes taxi drive away and you find really nice restaurants there ! Pools are very nice, some garden, some grass, awesome beach, good service. Enjoy your stay! Room tip: try to get one by the ocean front. Yeah pay the extra ... it is worth it. Have a great time!

This is the second time we have stayed at Camino Real and it is the best resort in the area. The beach is private, the architecture and landscaping is amazing. Everywhere you look there are beautiful scenes. The pool runs the length of the resort and meanders. The beach bar is a great place to enjoy a beverage and meet other guests. The best thing about the resort is you get to enjoy it with no loud music constantly pounding. You will get to hear the waves and talk to your loved ones you came with with no music making it difficult or distracting you. Food sticks mainly to local specialties which is great to try local cuisine. Mole, seafood, tacos and the typical hamburger, fries and Caesar for those less adventurous. I highly recomend Camino Real for those looking for a peaceful, relaxing time in Mexico on a beautiful beach.

We considered this resort to be delightful. All rooms have a view of the ocean. It is built on two or three levels and we were happily in the lower level. The room was not fancy but beds were comfortable and a/c worked well. Balcony was adequate but more comfortable furniture on it would have been nice. If you are looking for a party atmosphere, this is not the place for you. The beach is steep and undertow strong, but the pool is delightful. The service at the pool (food and beverages) is outstanding. For those who tend to forget they are in a foreign country, the number of staff who speak no English might be a problem, but 90% of them are most accommodating.
