Absolutely Amazing

Resort from start of trip to the very end was beyond amazing! We arrived to find out we had been upgrade to Exhale Club which came with concierge. Our concierge Jochi went above and beyond everyday. One of the people in our group celebrated a birthday; Jochi decorated his room, put a sign on their door, brought a cake to dinner, and just overall made the day Great! The staff were all so friendly and always willing to help. Would definitely go again!

A BREATHLESS GOOD TIME!

Myself, my husband and two other couples stayed at Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa from Nov 18-Nov 25. We had a fantastic time and really enjoyed this resort. Resort wise, I have been to Jamaica at least eight times, Cuba twice and this was my fourth visit to the DR, so not my first rodeo. I realized everyone's vacation desires differ so keep that in mind as you read this review. Overall, I loved everything about this resort, it wasn't too big but there was always something going on and something to do. The resort staff was friendly and helpful (a couple special shout-outs to come) and grounds were beautiful and well kept, the food was wonderful with lots of selection. I'll break it down piece by piece as there are a few things to keep in mind when visiting this resort. Room: We booked the swim-out room and did not regret it, it was nice to have a spot to just chill and relax at our own leisure, especially at night when things settled down. Our room was modern and spacious, note: there isn't a dresser to put your clothes in, you'll have to store everything in the closet but it's big enough you can do so easily, you just may have to stack a few things especially if you packed a lot or are staying for two weeks. The room was clean and the bed was super comfy; maid service was average (even with tipping) to be honest I've experienced better service, not that she didn't do a good job but just didn't provide the extra touches we've had in the past.( not really a big deal to us but it may matter to some so I thought I'd mention it). Food: there wasn't anything we didn't enjoy, we loved that you didn't have to make reservations, except for the show cooking but keep in mind that some of the restaurants aren't open on specific nights, be sure to check that out. You have access to the Now Onyx restaurants and I'd recommend taking the time to walk over and try them out. The lunch buffet at the Onyx was great, we ate there a lot. The show cooking was good but again I've seen better in terms of the entertainment but the food was good and everyone was personable. The steaks at the steakhouse were HUGE and very delicious, go with a good appetite. The French restaurant was fantastic, we ate there twice. Beach: Beautiful beach, nice warm water, just be careful in the ocean as there is a bit of an undertow so don't swim out too far or if you do just be careful; if you get caught in the undertow swim parallel to the beach until you come out of it. We had no issues getting beach chairs but if you want a palapa you might want to be there by 9am. Pools: The pools are large with lots of loungers. Chairs by the main pool (Party Pool) do go quick so get your spot early. There is a hot tub next to the main pool which is nice especially if you get a rain day but it's not overly 'Hot" however you can request an increase in temp but they keep it at about 90. The pool next to the beach is huge, lots of room to swim around, float etc. They also have pool floaty you can use, they are big and very comfortable so no need to bring your own unless you want one for the ocean as you can't take the pool ones to the beach. Daytime entertainment: There is always something going on, you don't have to participate if you don't want to and you can find quiet spots away from the action, but if you like to get involved in activities there are lots to choose from throughout the week. The Beach Olympics was a blast! I also recommend the water cycling class, the instructor was great and it was lots of fun, celebrate after with a margarita ;-) The trampoline class as super fun but be prepared to sweat, enjoy a dip in the pool and nice cold drink afterward. The entertainment staff was great, get to know them, make friends it really does add to the atmosphere and can enhance your experience. Evening Entertainment: We enjoyed the different theme nights, it was fun. We were a bit disappointed to find out that they weren't doing the black light pool party the week we were there( it's supposed to be amazing), they alternate and do it every other week. We were also disappointed to hear that they no longer host the toga party, we were looking forward to that but we did enjoy the mascarade party, the dance party, beach party etc. Staff: For the most part the staff was very nice, welcoming and fun. We did find there were a couple of spots where staff could be a bit more engaging with the guests; more smiles, less business. (main Pool Bar, Lobby bar) The wait staff at the restaurants and by the pool as well as the entertainment team were top notch, big shout- out to them, a special shout-out to our guy Nelson who kept the drinks coming and the laughs rolling, keep up the great work Nelson you definitely added to our vacation. Overall we really enjoyed our vacation and would return to this resort in the future. Thank you Breathless team for your hospitality!

Checked in late evening and although the upgrade to the Exhale club was mentioned it was not a hard sell so we were in our suite within 30minutes of arrival. Champagne and scented towels at reception to greet us along with a brief explanation of the hotel site. All of the information is available on your in room TV. Our suite was located by the quiet pool in the Sublime block (room 1276). Room was spacious well appointed and a large bathroom area with separate toilet and wet room area. Loved the his n her sinks. Balcony had Jacuzzi bath on it and as our room was a first floor corner suite it was totally private. Our suite was located bang in the middle of the resort which made it ideal for wandering to all the restaurants, beach area and reception. Due to our long journey we decided to use room service upon arrival we along with our complimentary bottle of champagne. All arrived within 30minutes of ordering. Sat on our balcony listening to the beach party lapping up the ambience. Breakfast is served at the Spoons restaurant. Very large buffet style with many international tastes catered for. Egg counter is well served but some food (hash browns & eggs benedict) are pre cooked and left to warm which unfortunately means they're cold within 5 minutes of being cooked. Thereโ€™s service for drinks and the tables are kept very clean. There are many restaurants throughout the resort and you can use the ones at the Onyx next door. Generally there was no waiting for tables but on the nights that several restaurants were closed it was obviously busier but with a digital alarm given to you and a drink at the nearest bar the wait (longest was 30mins) it wasnโ€™t a issue. You need to pre-book the Hibachi table at Silk City which we would highly recommend as we did it twice. We particularly liked the Culinara and Coquet Restaurants and would highly recommend a wander over to the sister hotel Bluewater Grill again visited on two occasions. Champagne is plentiful as is any cocktail you can think of and some have probably not heard of as well as the local beer (President) being very good too. Lots of entertainment both day and night time is laid on so check put you TV for the programme or go to reception and pick up the daily newsletter. Entertainment daytime provided by the E-Team was limited to the beach and fun pool mainly and the foam parties in the fun pool are not to be missed whatever your age. What an experience!! Evening entertainment is spilt between shows by the E-team or outside entertainers. We enjoyed the Hard Rock show, Magic Show and Belly dancing show. Pools, hot tubs and swim up lagoons are all encased in beautiful landscaped gardens. Stunning beach although water was often choppy so red flag displayed most days in the morning changing to yellow some afternoonโ€™s. Waiters service around all pools and on beach. We sat most days around the quiet pool and had excellent waiter service from Abraham. Sunloungers and parasols were plentiful as were the beach towels. Dissapointed that the cabanas were so tired looking and not free to use which we found very strange unlike other Caribbean resorts we have previously visited. Housekeeping (room cleaning ) can be booked for a specific time therefore we booked for 11am each day unfortunately it was hit and miss if it happened and on more than one occasion we had to ring for out room to be cleaned. Likewise if you remove towels/bath mats please replace them. Generally the housekeeping was OK but it could be better. We were at the resort 4-20th December when the occupancy was approximately 50% in our the first week although got very busy with weekenders then increased a little more the second week General service around the resort was excellent from a gardener to a chef from a waiter to pool man and receptionist to bellboy everyone was always polite gave eye contact and was courteous. Please note that unlike many previous posts saying you need tip to get good service this was not our experience as we do not tip in until the end of our stay and we did not feel service suffered as a result of this. Minor issues that would in our opinion improve your overall service and allow us to have given you 5* would be the housekeeping service and to improve the cabana and include the cabanas as part of the overall package. Additionally the daily newsletter should be available from 7am at all breakfast restaurants. If your want a really quiet couples only resort then this may not be for you but if you want to Party then go join the fun.

Wasn't left breathless..

First of all before writing my review I think it's important to know we travelled as a group of 4 (2 couples). We are 23- 25 years old and stayed at the resort for two weeks. We picked this resort as we wanted somewhere which offered both day and night events, reasonable amount of restaurant choices and based on its reviews on here. Check in - Check in was absolutely appalling! There were two people on the desk and they were already dealing with other guests when we arrived. We then had a woman come over and tell us all to get in a single file? Once we eventually got to check in it was apparent to us that they were soooooooo laid back!! Too laid back if I'm being honest. Despite there being a queue of 20 + people waiting there was no urgency about them. Rooms - When we got to our room we were really disappointed. The room itself was spacious and clean. However, we were overlooking the electricity tower and a pile of rubbish - we weren't going to accept looking at that view for the next two weeks. Our friends room was also a disappointment - their room smelt of mould and everything felt damp. We went to reception straight away (more queueing) and asked for a room change. The man at the desk said they were fully booked, but to come back tomorrow at 11am and then we will be moved to our rooms at 5pm. We did get moved to our rooms at 5pm. However, our luggage wasn't with us until 6pm. Does it really take an hour to move luggage from one room to another ? Despite this, the room was a lot of better! It was in block 3 on the second floor overlooking the pool!! We asked for a room on the 2nd floor specifically as we were on a 3rd floor before and due to heavy rain our balcony was completely flooded because of the torrential rain we had for 2 days. We did have a few problems - balcony door didn't lock. Plug socket was hanging out in the bathroom. Key was an absolute nightmare! Keep it away from your phones as doesn't work after you do this. We must have visited reception 10 times to change our keys. Housekeeping - Overall, housekeeping was good!! We had one day where we came back to our room around 5pm, but they hadn't cleaned our rooms so I rang down to reception and they were there in 30 minutes. Another thing to mention is they tend to start banging on the door around 8:30am to cleans your room! I've never known this in any resort we have stayed at especially as this is advertised as a 'party resort' you would think they would accommodate to us getting in late. We then had the mini bar man knocking at 9:30am.. I would recommend putting the do not disturb sign on your door if you don't want to be woken at that time. Food - The food was another disappointment to be honest. One of the most annoying things is that the restaurants are open on specific days and closed on others so felt the need to plan ahead. Who wants to plan ahead on holiday ?! We had some good meals don't get me wrong.. The French, The Culinary, The Italian and the Pan Asian Cuisine in Now Onyx were all of good standard food and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The rest of them were mediocre. Service - Service is so hit and miss at this place. We received amazing service in the above restaurants! They literally couldn't do any more for us. However, others were a mix of really badly spoken English waiters/waitresses, extremely long waits on food and some were just plain rude! Another thing is when you sit down you get introduced to someone who says they are you waiter for the night.. But then you have someone different taking your order, someone different topping up your wine and someone different bringing out your food. I didn't quite get this. I feel the service would have been better if you had one person designated to your table. Service at the bars was mixed too! The guys at the Wink Bar I felt were always very quick and you got served in good time. However, the service at the After Dark nightclub was just terrible. To be honest, they need more bar staff - it just wasn't enough for how many people were there and the amount of drinks each person was ordering! When one of us would go to the bar we'd be gone for about 20 minutes waiting to get served. It doesn't help when you have people dangling notes in their face so they get served quicker too (and they do). The servers on the beach were pretty bad too I've lost count on the amount of times I ordered from someone on the beach and my drink never came. One time a woman came out 5/6 times with different drinks on the beach for people and forgot mine every time! She even realised she did and said ' I will bring' and then forgot again. Entertainment - First of all, you would never know this is a party resort!! The entertainment was shocking!! They had his one man who did all the singing - it was that bad it was laughable. I actually think he knows how bad he is as he never completely sang the song, always missed out lines and tried to get the audience to sing back so he didn't have to ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. Once we discovered Now Onyx we tended to visit there as their entertainment was better! Plus they have a Sports bar, Cafe, Ice Cream bar and a burger bar!! The resort was far better than ours. There was just a different feel to it- the staff over there are so friendly and can't do enough for you. Whilst we were there they had foam parties, A beach party, a masquerade party and that was pretty much it!! They were all good, but they really need to mix up their music a bit. I was sick to death of hearing Latino music mixed with EDM ๐Ÿ™„. Pools - they have a 'party' pool and a quiet pool. We're quite sociable so spent most of our time in the party pool, which up until 3:30pm may as well be the quiet pool! They then do games involving guests which I enjoyed watching! Overall it was OK. It was nothing compared to other hotels we have visited in Mexico ( El Dorado Royale - absolutely amazing)! If you haven't booked this yet, there are definitely better hotels out there!! If you're just going for a short break which I know a lot of Americans do this will be fine for you! Any longer I would go elsewhere. If you have already booked don't worry, you will make your own entertainment like we did! We met some amazing people out there and made the most of the holiday.

Great break from the winter weather!

We stayed at Breathless with a group of friends & had a "super magnifico" time there. Our concierge was JOCHI and he went above & beyond the call of duty for our group. Jochi helped us with activities & kept us informed about all amenities available at the hotel. Everyone there did there best to make us feel welcome. Juan was our pool server & kept us with plenty of cocktails, including Mamajuana! The E-Team was great at entertaining all guests, blackjack dealers were friendly, and the overall experience was a good one. Beaches have a good bit of coral, so I would recommend water shoes for protection. Beach was clean and nice! Food was average for Punta Cana, but no complaints. The Foam Pool Parties were a BLAST! Great music all day! Ask for JOCHI as your concierge - you will not be disappointed!
