Nice stay!!!

Overall, our stay the second week of June was enjoyable. The resort is older and could use some maintenance but still nice. Most people complain about the beach. Yes, it has its issues, but if getting into the ocean is not a big deal for you, no worries. We had perfect sunny days...no rain all week! Restaurants...We tried all of the ala cartes. Our favorites were the French and Steak. Both had delicious filet mignon. The French restaurant does change their menu, and it also shares the same location as the Asian. So the French and Asian alternate nights. The other restaurants (steak, Italian, Mexican) are open nightly. Easy to make reservations. You can make reservations in the lobby or with the concierge in the lobby of your building. You make the reservation for the next day. We fortunately were able to find a reservation for the same night the first day that we arrived. Food was good in all restaurants including the buffets. The small buffet by the quiet pool near the front of the resort was a nice change of scenery. There is a soft serve ice cream machine at the bar near the quiet pool as well. One thing I need to mention which is nothing to do with the resort. To some adults, if you want fresh fruit, please do not pick up several pieces until you find the perfect one. The restaurants are not grocery stores, and you can't wash fruit before eating that others have touched. I would not eat the whole fresh fruit because I watched as adults as well as kids pick up several before making a choice. Common sense, please. Buildings...we stayed in a garden room in building 1-(Tulum). This was a great location close to the main pools and the buffet near the beach. The room was nice. I didn't particulary care for the tub in the shower. I could see a potential injury trying to step out. Toiletries were restocked daily....shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion. The safe is free. Be careful...the sliding door to the balcony will LOCK if closed completely. I would not want to get stuck outside on the 3rd floor waiting for someone to come open the door. We were located right by the elevator which was fast and efficient all week. The resort is large....we enjoy walking but used the trolley MANY times throughout the week to travel to the shows, the Black & White Bar, lobby, shops, quite pool and restaurant, and ala carte restaurants. We saw several shows. Not bad as I have seen worse at other nice resorts in Mexico. The Michael Jackson show wasn't bad either. The best to us by far was the "Circus" show. It was hilarious!!! Such a talented group! The busier pools near the beach were always full but never too crowded. There was always stuff going on with the play makers and music was continously playing. Plenty of activities such as a large chess board, huge Connect Four game, Jenga, basketball goals, ping pong, and pool games. The beach itself is white sand and pretty. The water is blue and and absolutely beautiful. It really depends on the time of the day and the angle of the sun as to the hues of blue. If you walk down to the water though, it's horrible with brown seaweed and rocks. This can be remedied by taking a short walk to the left to the lagoon as others have mentioned. You can also walk to the right just past the resort and use the other white beaches. They are all for public use. No swim up bar. There are bars at each end of the large pools so no worries. The bar with swings is great. The drinks are not watered down, and they will serve you the alcohol of your choice if you ask. People play the towel game with the chairs. I was about to lose it one day with a lady that was saving four chairs but was only sitting on one. There were no towels or personal belongings on the others. Some people are just rude!! Yes, we tried the sales pitch. They will attempt to lure you in throughout the week. An hr and half high pressure presentation got us a bottle of tequila and $100 to spend in the gift shops at the resort though. There is a shuttle that runs three times a day to Playa del Carmen. $8 per person one way. Well worth it. We went into town one day and enjoyed an authentic Mexican meal and swam in the beautiful blue waters of the beach. Just a note, reviewers complained of the ocean odor at the resort...the ocean smelled horrible in Playa del Carmen as well. It's just the area. We saw lots of animals...Coatis, deer, raccoons, iguanas, lizards. Others mentioned seeing a crocodile in the mangroves, but we never did. My one issue...there was topless on the beach and near the pool area. This is a family resort, and if it I had kids there, I would have really had an issue. I only saw this one day, but that one day was all day long. It's one thing to sun bathe but these two older ladies never sat down and were all over the place. Lastly, it was nothing that anyone would want to see. Management and lifeguards noticed but nothing was done. Overall, great vacation. If you have booked here, you will enjoy!!! More>

What a perfect resort.. absolutely massive but there's little train/buses that run constantly to help get about.. many restaurants so there's something for everyone.. staff are very welcoming and friendly.. Found the excursions were expensive and the guys that run the kayaks and activities for free were quite grumpy.. the beach wasn't the best as it's quite black from the seaweed but walk a few moments either side and it's beautiful.. also a really clear and cool lagoon on the one side.. would recommend this hotel for a nice relaxing holiday More>

Best week of my life so far

Arrival: on arrival, staff were very pleasant and helpful. The bellboys took our bags to our rooms and we were directed to the bar to wait for them. Unfortunately there must have been a break down in communication as they never came back, but that was ok as we were left at a bar (there are worse problems to have). Room: our room was immaculate and was continuously kept that way by the lovely cleaning staff. The showers plug was a bit rubbish but it never overflowed the actual shower so that was fine. The towel animals were a really adorable touch and our air conditioning worked perfectly. Restaurants: the food was incredible! There really was something for everyone and generally an excessive amount of it which is a good problem to have. All the restaurant staff were lovely and accommodating. Pools: the pools were lovely, offering areas of shade and sun for everyone's needs. There was one large one and a small one, both kept very clean and there were never too many people. Beach: the beach was lovely and clean, the sand white. The only draw back was that in places you could see the sand bags they were using to prevent the sand washing away. Again, plenty of sun loungers and never too many people. The lagoon is a must! Easily my favourite part as it is beautiful and far cooler than any of the pools or sea. Entertainment: the organisers made a good effort in providing entertaining shows and games throughout the day. Our favourite was the evening showing of Grease - easily the funniest version we've seen. There are a number of activities you can do for free though I feel that a stay longer than a week would require a couple to pay for a few of the extra activities (which aren't cheap!!) or you'll probably get bored. Service: the service is amazing, with almost every single staff member determined to make your stay extremely enjoyable. My boyfriend lost his wallet at some point and it was returned to the concierge with nothing missing. I contracted an ear infection and a nice concierge lady directed us to a very cheap pharmacy in Play Del Carmen (the whole trip, doctors appointment and drugs cost less than £20) rather than push us to use their very expensive doctor (where only an appointment cost over £100 without drugs). Thomas Cook: In terms of service from Thomas Cook who we booked through - the lady who we went to in the Glasgow branch was extremely helpful and didn't push us into any decision that wouldn't be ideal for us. I couldn't praise her more. The Thomas Cook lady in the actual resort came across fine in the initial meeting but when asking her questions afterwards she was patronising, condescending and in more than one case, rude. Advice: bring bug spray and ointment for mosquito bites. British stuff is not strong enough, and the band they sold us on the bus which supposedly put the bugs off was useless. I got very very bitten. This could obviously have been avoided with proper spray though and I can't have expected much else considering the resort is in the middle of the mangroves. More>

I have enjoyed two family holidays at this resort! It was so good the first time that we returned for a second time! The rooms are a fantastic size, and are clean and modern! The restaurant choice is exceptional. Our favourite was the Steak House, however the French, Thai, Italian and Seafood were all very much enjoyed. The choice at breakfast is the best we've ever had. Fresh pancakes, omelettes or eggs made to choice! The staff are all friendly and super efficient, providing you with drinks at the poolside. The swimming pools are fantastic, and the choice of activities to partake in are also good. We took the free kayaks to the fresh water lagoon a couple of times too. More>

We actually booked to go to Eygpt but because of the troubles their, ended up changing to go to this hotel . The hotel is lovely and the staff were very good, but I was very disappointed with the beach as it was basically washed away and was in places just piles of sand bags ...if you walked along the beach you did come to some beautiful areas but even then the sea was murky and churned up and as I was looking forward to snorkelling I was disappointed. The hotel also lacked areas to go in the evening and everything seemed to be closed by 11pm not a problem for us but if it's the night life you are going for you will be disappointed. We tried the different restaurants but decided that the buffet was our favourite meal choice because of the variety of food on offer and breakfast was my favourite meal and the waiters at breakfast were excellent lovely friendly guys who were always ready with a fresh cup of tea ...even if they didn't really understand how to make tea 😊 And finally the little raccoon like animals that came rouund the table and were chased away everyday by the waiters were a great entertainment lovely little characters 😊 More>
