The hotel was not good

We booked 2 rooms and the key to our room was deactivated and we couldnt get in our room. My kids door was not closing after the 3rd day there . The staff was rude and we had to walk so much to get to the restaurants and lobby they had no carts available. The rooms smelled musty and moldy.

The resort was fair to good in most categories - the beach was horrible! If you're expecting to see an amazing beach, please don't go here! The buildings are older and probably need updating, but overall decent. The service was good and most of the staff were great. We probably wouldn't go back here due to the disappointing beach.

Lack of handrailings to get into the pool.

There is only one hand railing from the deck to the pool. The rest of the hand railings are once you make the initial step off of the pool deck. That is a big step down for people with replaced knees. They need more hand railings for safety.

We were only here 3nights, and did not get to experience all the resort had to offer. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and shoeer was great. Pools were clean and huge. Always found a place to sit. Food was AWESOME, far better than other resorts weve been to. Staff at front desk not friendly or helpful, seemed like we we a bother to them. Our conceirge Uzium was great to speak with and incredibly helpful. Resort was quiet without large loud groups. Felt comfortable walki g around the very large resort. Would definately reauest bei g in building 2 again, it waa close to pool, beach and food. Enjoyed the Seafood resteraunt very much. Shows were entertainig abd high energy. Only complaint was the lack of Corona beer, which was very much a disappointment.

While wadding I stepped on a Scorpion Fish with a venomous spine and went down in the water in severe pain. I immediately had a life guards and a paramedic working with me and a hotel interpreter was helping. They than took me up to the hotel doctor, which surprised us that they had a doctor on staff. After I returned to my room was checked on several times by the staff. I would feel completely safe returning to Blue Bay.

The beach is full of seaweed, unable to swim, difficult to walk on beach as well. However, I must say the staff did rake every morning.

The food was ok, breakfast was definitely the best meal of the day. Careful in the pool as the tiles are chipping and we ended up with a piece in my foot. The shows were a little outdated. Bartenders were great and the waitstaff was the best! Once you get roped into attending the meeting to become a Circle One, they will use high pressure sales tactics, waste your time and never want to give you the voucher they promised.. don't get suckered into going to one of the meetings.

Fabulous Birthday Trip
Jander, Manchester, UK
Tue Jul 17 01:41:57 EDT 2018
We travelled as a party of 6 adults to celebrate my birthday. Whilst I agree with those reviews stating its not a 5 star resort, I didn't pay 5 star prices so didn't expect it to be. What I can say is that is absolutely value for money and the only big issue was the seaweed problem, not the hotels fault I know but still disappointing. We found the food to be the highlight of our holiday. The restaurants were all of a good standard and we had no problem getting reservations, in fact we ate in the restaurants each night so cant comment on the evening buffet food although breakfast and lunch were both very good with lots of choices. I think on the whole the staff go out of their way to be helpful and we found the majority to be very friendly. My sister had recently been diagnosed with a range of food allergies and this was the first time she had travelled since and it was the one thing that could have had a negative impact on the holiday however the staff from concierge, restaurant captains in both the Festival buffet and all restaurants and chefs went the extra mile to make sure they prepared food for her that she was able to eat and enjoy. The streaks at all the restaurants were great and cooked really well on balance I would say we enjoyed the French and Italian the best but all were good. Alberto ( I think) in the French restaurant looked after us on the night of my birthday and made sure we were well looked after. We found the drink to be good and especially enjoyed pre dinner drinks in the lounge bar most nights served by Cesar who we thought did a great job!! Hotel night entertainment is not really our thing but many seemed to enjoy it, for me I would have liked a bar away from the entrainment to sit in later at night - but you cant have everything !! Our room (block 5) was as expected, a good size, good bathroom with walk ion shower and fabulous air conditioning, this was kept extremely clean by our maid. Both pools and the beach were fine for us with lost of sunbeds available. Of course there is always room for improvement, the little things make the difference but I would definitely recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to return if travelling to Mexico in the future.

Great time,great vacation

This was our 2nd visit to the BlueBay,one of the reasons for 2nd visit was we knew the food was good,it was always hot, never had to wait in line,I didn’t bring long pants,so we could not go to 3 of the restaurants,so men, remember to bring those pants. The only thing I found wrong with the restaurants were none of the food handles used any type of rubber gloves for handling food. The beach was not the best, but the pools made up for it,if you walk to the left of the beach, about 10 min walk you will find a GREAT Lagoon, very beautiful, well worth the walk!We stay in building 6000, very clean, well kept, also quiet. Our concierge,Mariana, was the best trutly very helpful. She answered all our questions, asked every morning if we needed anything, when she found out this was our 2nd time at the resort, told us we could get a lobster dinner, which we didn’t know about. She made us feel welcome, very professional, knew how to make you feel comfortable. The WiF is bad,but I left my phone in the safe,it’s a vacation, the resort is spread out, very big, very clean grounds, lots of different animals walking around, they have trains going to and from the different restaurants and beach,I would come back again,if you can, stay in building 6000,have a great time,we did!!😎

Excellent! We had a great time and the service at all buffets was great. Can't say enough about the French, Italian, Oriental and Steak dinners that we made reservations for - all the food was excellent and the staff was very friendly and courteous. Kudos two two special people that attended us very morning for breakfast and afternoon for lunch: Ruperta and Candido! They are the best!

Almost put my fiance in the hospital not once, but TWICE!

**BUYER BEWARE** My fiance and i had booked this resort about two months back and were super excited for our mini vacation. However, from check in, this resort was a mess. After a long and tiring trip in, they made us wait 20 minutes at the desk because the third party we booked through had accidentally sent a duplicate reservation. Now I work in the hotel industry, front desk specifically, and I am well are that duplicate reservations can be fixed in three seconds flat. After I started to get impatient is when the front desk agent finally came out and said we were fine to check in. When i confirmed that they had put us in a king size, the front desk agent tried to lie, saying we had booked for a double... which i very quickly shut down with all my reservation information that showed we had booked a garden view king size. The front desk agent quickly fixed that mistake and explained we had to wait about 20-30 more minutes for the room to be ready, which I was ok with as I know how it can be a little hectic with rooms. We finally get to the room, and the SMELL... It smelled musty and old. The room as tired and could very obviously use renovation. Now the second night is the real kicker. First, my fiance ends up getting cut by something in THEIR pool, and gets banned for the rest of our stay?! He was not acting up, or doing anything crazy to get banned. He simply got cut. I could understand if they wanted him to stay out until the next day when the cut healed up already, but they had the AUDACITY to kick him out for the remainder of our stay.... so, now we are left to wander around the rest of the day because the beach is so unimaginably filthy and stinky. The beach smells like rotten eggs and is so filled with seaweed the water is black. To say it is a gross beach is an understatement. So, we decided that we would hang out in the room until it was dinner time, and then we would go to the Black and White Bar for some entertainment. We get to the Mexican restaurant and the staff was extremely friendly. Now my fiance has an extreme allergy to any dairy. He can become anaphylactic. We are always so sure to make certain that the staff knows and that none of his food has any dairy in it. So after being reassured that there is no dairy in the chicken burrito, my fiance settled and ordered that. Turns out that was a huge mistake. After he took a bite and swallowed he looked at the burrito and it was FULL of cheese. We both quickly called the waiter over and upon looking at the burrito he goes, "yup, thats cheese." which we obviously already knew. We sprinted out of the restaurant to the room where he popped a fist full of benedryl and we sat there on the bed with his epi pen in case things took a turn for the worse. After he seemed to be out of the woods, I went down to the concierge and spoke with Alex. He was extremely sympathetic and booked our restaurant reservations for the rest of the week and added notations on each reservation about my fiance's allergy. We were content with the steps taken and decided to leave and go to the buffet as we were starving and dinner had been ruined. The buffet had just closed and understandably they would not let us in. So we went back up to the room and called Alex at the concierge to see if he could have room service sent us free of charge on account of their HUGE mistake. To shorten this part of the story, we had to FIGHT to get comped room service. When we finally get permission, we called room service and ordered two burgers with no cheese. What do they send us? Two burgers WITH CHEESE, which my fiance almost took a bite of, it just so happens that he noticed a sliver of cheese just before the was about to bite down. I was so livid and in the morning flew down to the concierge with both plates in hand and slammed the burgers down in front of them. That quickly caught their attention and I was seen by the front office manager, Sofie, almost immediately. I explained the situation to her and explained how the night before we were not looking for anything other than the problem to be fixed. However after a second cheese incident, we were demanding compensation. She offered to upgrade us to BlueBay's luxury boutique resort. We agreed with the transfer as we were just so happy to get the heck out of that terrible resort. We transferred the next day and were finally able to enjoy the last two days of our getaway. NEVER will I return to the Grand Esmeralda again.... terrible TERRIBLE experience. And I also forgot to mention how housekeeping waltzed into the room despite our do no disturb hanging from the door. The one thing I will commend them on is how friendly their staff is but thats about it.

Friendly staff, good value

This was our first all inclusive resort and overall we were sufficiently happy that we will book all inclusive again. Check in was a drawn out process that took an unusual twist when we were offered free coupons for the spa and a complementary breakfast where they would tell us more about the features of the resort the next morning. The twist was we needed bring proof of US residency and a Visa or Mastercard to breakfast. On our way to our room we wondered why an all inclusive resort was offering complimentary breakfasts. They rang early next morning to remind us of our breakfast meeting and to remind us to bring our ID and credit card. When I asked why I needed that, I received a flustered unfathomable response. We didn’t go to the special breakfast, happy to forgo the spa vouchers and went to the regular buffet breakfast. After breakfast we were intercepted and finally recognized timeshare or similar was what was being peddled. We made it clear we were not interested and no more calls or interceptions occurred. The restaurant staff were almost without exception absolutely fantastic, as were most of the bar staff. The few who were not, stood out because of the high quality of the vast majority. The quality of the food was excellent everywhere we dined, with lots of variety in each restaurant. When they say men must wear long trousers, it was good to see that being enforced, and they did have some spare long pants for those who chose to test boundaries. The pools and grounds were wonderfully maintained and always looked stunning. While our room was generally clean and tidy, it was tired with large moldy spots on the bathroom ceiling, and large areas of silver missing on the bathroom mirror. I don’t believe the same was the case for all units, and think the rolling upgrade just hadn’t made it to the room we had been allocated. All in all we had an excellent time, and definitely will do all inclusive again should the opportunity come up again, although to fair the time share or whatever it was did put us off and made us more wary; we are unlikely to return to this specific resort. Not because we felt there was anything particularly wrong with it, more because we prefer to explore new areas.
