Don't book if not taking Vip

Check in was fine. we booked the deluxe room and I felt like I was going to cry when we went in the room. It was nasty... I've been to the Dominican 3 times before this trip and I've never felt so grossed out by the room. It was small and the closet was so small. A/C doesn't work and over all just not a nice room to stay in . I was really not impressed... we went to eat at the buffet and food was okay. We walked around the place and soon saw the VIP section. Went right over to check in and asked to upgrade . Now we're talking. It is really worth the money. It's 500$ US but it is worth every penny. You have access to bars that are VIP the beach part and you also have a much much much better room with A/C that works. We got our reservation for restaurants done by one of the guys so that was nice and let me say the food is really really good! Can't complain! Overall not a place I plan to come back to... I read that the entertainment was so good but I really don't think so. It's quite boring and not a lot happening at night. The worse part is the vendors!!!!!! I was ready to scream , you feel harassed and it's like they don't understand the word no?! Anyway overall it was okay but I have been to iberostar, palladium and one in puerto plata and would highly recommend considering another place if you have extra $$ and want to have a good time! Staff is generally nice but barely speak English... and it feels like they get annoyed if you don't speak Spanish. Room service included in VIP but takes about 45 minute every time and WIFI is the absolute worse ! Disconnects every other minute and you have to enter the password over 10 times a day!

Great entertainment and food, hotel and service needs improvements

I traveled to Punta Cana last week for 5 days and stayed at Be Live Collection. I'm an experienced Caribbean traveler, and consider myself willing to roll with the punches and generally try not to complain, but this experience left me disappointed and wishing I had selected another location. The photos do not accurately reflect the resort and beach. Pros: - Buffet food: The food at the buffet was better than I thought it would be. They had a lot of options, and everything tasted fresh. I wish the dining room had been air-conditioned, since it was hot and muggy, but we sat outside to get a breeze instead of grabbing a table inside. - Entertainment: The entertainment crew was fantastic! There was a beach party our first night there, which was a lot of fun, and they always had something going on if you wanted to get involved. Zumba, water aerobics, beer contests, bull riding, etc. The entertainment crew talked to people, tried to get people involved, had a ton of energy. This was absolutely the best part of our stay at the hotel. - Check in: Check in is usually somewhat of a nightmare at hotels this size. Check in was a breeze, there was a very short line, the front desk was efficient and gave us the information we needed. Cons: - The room: The room was the worst part, a huge disappointment. First, the A/C didn't work very well and the room never got below 26C during the trip. We asked the front desk for maintenance 4 separate times, and requested a room change. Maintenance never came by, we never were able to switch rooms. DR is muggy and hot, which we knew going there, but the A/C worked great in the VIP areas. Sleeping required an ice cold shower and going to bed with wet hair and no sheets, in order to be cool enough to sleep. Also, leave the curtains closed during the day so the room doesn't heat up even more. The room was also in disrepair. The wood on the bed was broken, handles were missing from the nightstand drawers, and the room smelled musty. I second what others said about the resort having a smell in general, but I think that might be the excess of seaweed on the beach. There was a safe in the closet, but it didn't have a lock, we weren't offered one, and we didn't ask for one so I'm not sure how that works. The mini-bar is a joke. - The beach: the water is green, filled with seaweed, and not clear. Was hoping for a better beach. - Vendors: The vendors were so persistent and aggressive we found it hard to relax. There were 2 or 3 vendors for every product and they walked up and down the beach, constantly asking you to buy their products. I understand the need to make money, but if I'm on vacation I'd like to lounge around on the beach without being hassled every few minutes. The Lifestyles sales reps were no better and were everywhere in the resort, pressuring you to listen to a sales pitch. We tried to avoid the lobby and other areas after being tired of the aggressive sales tactics but it's nearly impossible to get around them. - The pool: The main pool is gross. It's green, there's a slimy sheen on the surface near the edges, and there's dirt and debris floating around. It's not well-filtered, and it's so warm it's like bathwater. We checked out the VIP pool - this was clean, nice and cool, and beautiful blue water. They should consider treating the main pool with the same level of care. - Food at the burger/pizza spot: I second what most other reviewers have said.. avoid this food near the pool. The nuggets were burnt every day, the burgers were inedible, and the staff in this part were mostly rude. The cheese sticks were good! Overall, I would not return to this resort and suggest anyone find another resort to enjoy their vacation.

Shocked and disappointed

I booked the holiday in Augusts and it was the first time I have visited the Dominican Republic taking my partner are my kids aged 17 and 14. We were all very excited. The check in was a calamity. 2 to 3 hour wait and despite booking a super deluxe room, we were told they had no rooms of this standing and we were put in block 18 which was not even part of the main complex. The room was bare and a awful compared to what we were expecting. It was a disgrace to treat us this way. We complained after my daughter was in tears and said this was not acceptable when we got to to the room. Another two hours of complaining at the main desk and we were allocated another single room which smelt musty and still inferior to our paid for rooms. We were told to go to check in the following morning and after an hour wait were told to go to the VIP check in for 3:00. The staff were extremely rude and did not seem to care and then we were finally allocated the rooms we booked by about 4:00 pm. We had to move all our cases from the room we were given overnight and finally settled into our room by about 5:00 pm. We lost 2 days of our holiday. The hotel gave us a VIP wristband to compensate but this did not give us much benefit and in no way compensated us for our upheaval. Food was disappointing as so much was served up like warm such as jacket potatoes, chips and much other stuff. Hardly a 5 star service. By the end of our stay we avoided many foods and just stuck to food that we knew would be served hot. We ate at all the restaurants and the warm food was consistent from all of these. There were many other things we were unhappy with but decided to just get on with our holiday and rise above all these. When we mentioned things to the staff, like we had no towels in one of our rooms, they were never interested in listening to and just dismissed these and were rude. Trying to get through to any of the numbers on the phone in the room was impossible such as when we wanted to get some towels for one of our rooms. We mentioned the checking in problem to our travel consultant in the U.K. and he contacted the hotel and spoke to the Guest Reception Manager. We were told that the hotel would provide us fresh fruit every day to our room and free bottle of champagne. It happened once and was a small bottle of local rum! Great service - NOT!! We were advised that the hotel had offered a late checkout for the room. Guess what, we got to reception to check out and were told this was not the case and they demanded $60. I showed the reception manager who had spoken to my travel consultant an email confirming this and he denied this. In fact the reception did all they could to delay us and try and force us to pay the money. They knew we had flights at 17:40 and our private transfer was waiting but they did all they could to avoid dealing with our issues and honouring their pledge. Finally after 40 minutes they made us sign a disclaimer that exonerated the hotel of any liability to the problems they caused us with our original check in. We only know this as we read page one of the document on the computer screen as they only asked us to look and sign page 2. We were duped into this but considering the time pressures to get to the airport and make our flight we had no option but to sign. Even then when we signed the staff would not let us out the hotel until we had a checkout ticket. About 5 security guards blocked our path out of the hotel which was intimidating. What a shocking way to end our holiday and it was quite unbelievable. The reception manager took another 10 mins to sort out the checkout ticket when he could have just waved to the security guards to let us out. We had very little time at the airport to check in and get through security. Be Live knew exactly what they were doing and really came across as just trying to make as much money as they could at the expense of their customers. There were many we spoke to who had various room issues and checkin problems. A pattern of poor service and ripping off customers emerged. Be Live must do a full review of this resort and its service delivery to improve standards as with 940 1 star reviews it is by far one of the most criticised luxury hotels in Punta Cana.

Pros: the staff is amazing! Eric, James,Sonia and so many more made this stay pleasant. The only wow factor here is the staff and the animation crew and it goes down hill from there.. Pros: the food isn't terrible and some of the food is quite tasty, just get prepared to fight for plates since they appear to be limited Pro: outside the resort there is a cute little restaurant and bar where you can get some drinks for really great prices, I would recommend you check it out Pro: the animation team really do there best to keep things fun and exciting for guest, like having a giant BBQ party on the beach as well as a giant seafood food style lunch daily which kept things going and lively Con: avoid going to the Docter at all cost, the guy is terrible and a crook. I am happy to be back in the states where my girlfriend can visit an actual doctor who went to med school and not one who learned off of YouTube videos Pros: The resort is cute, but does need some upgrade work done on the property to give it a wow factor Pro: the flamingo by block (3) was fun to interact with on those late nights of drinking Cons: The food at the burger bar was pretty bad, so just make sure you make it to the buffet before they close. Some of the options include mozzarella sticks (which is probably the best thing there) pizza, and a pretty terrible hamburger. Cons: buffet constantly running out plates, so hunting one down will be a challenge. When they start to run out of plates you will begin to notice the staff rushing to take the plates away before your even finished (not in a rude way, but you did feel somewhat rushed to finish) I don't get why they just don't buy more plates to just avoid those problems in the first place. Cons: vendors are trying to sell you things on the property so it's pretty hard to relax, w/ people selling braiding hair services, excursions, paintings, sea shells, coco nuts, and paintings so get prepared to get approached none stop. Even in the VIP area your being approached to buy things by vendors. Cons: zero courtesy of extending a later check out. They make you pay $10 dollars per hour for the room which I feel is pretty lame especially after staying for as long as I did and how often I've stayed at the be live franchise) Cons: an all inclusive should mean that, but it's not...at the club located w/in the resort you have to purchase drinks w/ cash, which I didn't get since I've stayed at be live puerto plata, and that wasn't the case. What most people end up doing is drinking at the beach party before hand to get their initial buzz before heading to the club. The club is loud which is to be expected, a lot of reggae, but rarely any salsa or bachata considering your in the Dominican Republic I would expect more bachata Cons: if you're not "VIP" which really isn't worth it in my opinion and you order room service you are charged w/ an additional $8 room delivery fee which is ridiculous. I was trying to order a club sandwich, which is about $10 dollars, adding an additional $8 dollars to deliver it to your room is ridiculous. First I was told I'd be getting the food in 30 mins, 5 mins later I was told it would take 3 hours so I obviously cancelled the order. Pro: the gym on the property is really impressive and state of the art, felt like going to a david Barton gym so that was really cool to see at the property Cons: sun block creams are in the shoppes w/in the resort are retailing for ridiculous amounts $30 dollars which is crazy! I would highly recommend you bring plenty of your own if your going to stay for an extended period of time. Tip: if you do go see the doctor in the resort, who's an amateur that can't properly administered an IV remember that will cost you a pretty penny - $150 for the "CONsultation" plus even more fees on top of that so just be careful when drinking. The guy wants to charge you for even bandaids, bags and ice. Tip: bring a $100 in singles so your able to tip the staff members, who actually do notice and will go above for you when you leave a tip here and there. It's crazy how little people tip here. Being nice and not rude will go along way. Treat the workers w/ respect The resort offers no wow factor and this will be the last time I will be staying at their brands, the inconsistency with the hotels experience at their other resorts is a no go Tip: get prepared to get approached on the property to buy excursions non stop, I just wore my headphones to ignore them Execurtion tip: I had booked a trip to explore Santo Domingo along side my girl friend, but we both didn't get the experience we were hoping for - Santo Domingo is far from punta Cana so just remember that you will be in a bus for (4) plus hours, so that's already half your day on a bus... The bus also picks up other passengers at other resorts, which adds even more time to your trip...the excursion felt like a tour of souvenir shoppes instead of actually exploring the city - so much so that am willing to bet that these stores set up deals w/ the operators to just bring in tourist to shop and then give them a commission. Tip: if you want nice beaches but also want to be close to Santo Domingo to explore the city I would highly recommend staying at the beaches of Boca Chica. It's the best of both worlds.
