Let me start by stating that we had a great time in Punta Cana, and a wonderful time at the Be Live Collection Resort. We got to Punta Cana Saturday at 10am and were leaving Wednesday at 2pm. Here is what happened. Saturday - We arrived and were met by Jimenez, who informed us that the hotel was overbooked, he offered us accommodations at Catalonia for free, with a ride to there and back. We said okay, went there, they took us in a golf cart to our beautiful room, we went to eat at a great restaurant, walked to the beach, hung out, slept. Sunday - We woke up, ate breakfast, swam, drank and then got picked up at 3pm to go back to Be Live! Once there, Jimenez met us, upgraded our room for free to the Ocean View Balcony Suite, and gave us VIP bracelets for free as well. He made us reservations at Mediterranean Sunday night, Brazilian Monday night and Japanese Tuesday night. We spent the rest of the day at the beach and ocean, drinking and having fun. Dinner at Mediterranean was okay. It rained for 2 hours and then no more. Monday - Went to Aqua for breakfast. VIP only! Best breakfast there. Had a great breakfast, then to the lounge for free WiFi. After to the room to nap. Then to the VIP beach and VIP pool. Drank and swam and had so much fun. Dinner at Brazilian was okay. Little too greasy for my taste. Tuesday - Woke up and went to Hard Rock for a day pass. Got through the presentation and then spent the rest of the day swimming and drinking while it poured rain down onto us. It was Awesome! Warm weather, warm water, rain, drinks, fun people. Best birthday ever! Skipped Japanese just went to bed. Wednesday - Woke up and went to Aqua for breakfast one last time. Coffee, omelettes, french toast, crepes, nutella, peanut butter, everything was amazing. Walked around a little to say goodbye to the resort. Saw Jimenez and he gifted us with a bottle of Rum. Such a nice guy. Caught a cab to the airport and came home. It was the greatest trip ever and we had so much fun! 10/10 would recommend! More>

Birthday get away

I traveled to Punta Cana from April 18-25 to celebrate my 24th birthday! Upon arrival it began to spit rain which was not appreciated by us but the Dominicans mentioned they hadn't had rain for over a month and so it was desperately needed! It was only about a 20 minute (air conditioned) bus ride to the resort which was perfect! The lobby they check you into to is quite small (bonus of free Wi-fi at anytime) and at first glance makes you wonder about the resort.. but don't stress it because the main lobby is absolutely gorgeous! We were one of the first ones checked in and brought to building 17 which was newly renovated with modern style rooms but at the far end of the resort which means a good 10 minute walk to the buffet or beach but that wasn't a problem for us. This part of the resort had less commotion ( compared to buildings closer to the main pool which hosted daily events) and so we enjoyed it very much! Check in was quick and easy, although on their website I had read they would offer special gifts to visitors with birthdays and everyone should get a fruit tray and bottle of rum as a welcome gift. Although I did mention it was my birthday trip I got no "special gift" and there was no fruit tray or rum in my room upon arrival; even though other guests did confirm they got both! The beach... well not what I had anticipated. From reading reviews before booking, Bavaro beach is "the best beach in Punta Cana" well the water is not the turquoise crystal clear blue you would expect from the Caribbean. Perfect white sand but loads of sea weed (but what can you do, right!?). Finding a chair was damn near impossible due to people coming at 6 am to claim chairs with their towels and beach bags (MAJOR pet peeve of mine). The VIP beach section was almost always empty and they would not allow you to use if you didn't have to correct bracelet. The vendors... oh the vendors. They were disgustingly aggressive and would not take "no" for an answer. The beach is riddled with them selling excursions, souvenirs, massages, hair braiding, even photos with exotic animals. It was difficult to relax when you're constantly heckled to buy buy buy. The resort even allows them to come on the grounds, set up tables and harass residents. One night was so bad my boyfriend and I had to walk down the beach to a different entrance of the resort to avoid a young man who was selling jewellery near the buffet. This was VERY frustrating for us and was a major downfall of this resort. Also beware the time share employees. They will offer you a "welcome gift" to get to upstairs in the main lobby where they consumed over an hour of our day trying to sell us vacation packages. After many attempts to tell them we were not interested they finally gave up! We did go on 2 excursions which we purchased through sunwing (personally i would not trust the vendors on the beach, i have heard horror stories). The Catamaran snorkel trip was awesome! We were brought to a little beach front restaurant where we had to wait about 20-30 minutes for the first group to come back in (which was the only downside). Once loaded on the boat, we prepared to snorkel where i saw a sea turtle and lots of tropical fish! That lasted for about 30 minutes then we loaded back on the boat and they brought us to a natural pool which was so nice to swim and drink! The boat crew was amazing and made the trip loads of fun with great music and dancing! I would recommend it to everyone! The off road mud buggies was also a great one to experience! We went on an over cast day which worked out well because it wasn't so hot and we didn't feel bad about missing a pool day! We were picked up at 1:30 stopped at a few resorts to load up and made it to the lot after about an hour drive. There is some down time, filling out paper work and they speak about local goods like coffee, tea, cacao etc. while the guys gas up the buggies and get them ready. Once in the buggies it was a good time but you do have to follow the group and so you cannot necessarily go as fast as you would like to. After getting soaked in mud they take you to Maho beach which was beautiful and way nicer than the resort beach! We swam for about 20 minutes (there are also lots of vendors and children with water to wash sand off your feet for tips) but it was a beautiful spot! After some more mudding we stopped at the natural fresh water cave where you are bombarded with vendors but the cave was a sight to see! It was busy there so it was just jump in the water and get out! no swimming in the cave at all, but was nice for pictures for sure! In total we were out and about for almost 3 hours (not including the hour ride to and from the resort) which was nice and we felt was worth the money. Although we spoke to a couple on our resort and they did not have the same experience, their guide went slow and it wasn't muddy that day due to the humidity so they felt they didn't get the full experience so i guess it truly depends on the day and who leads the pack. The resort grounds were very nicely maintained and the pools were nice but the main pool needs some maintenance. We mostly enjoyed the pools on the other side, near buildings 10-17 which were more quite, and better maintained. We found the food to be pretty great (compared to Cuba) the buffet had a good variety but did repeat a lot throughout the week. The A La Carts were hard to get into so you should reserve immediately! We were only allowed to choose 3 at a time but when we went back to book the forth it was full so we were out of luck! The Brazilian was our favorite which a huge selection of meats off the skewers! Lamb, steak, turkey, chicken, beef, pork, it was soooo delicious! and a small selection of appetizers in a buffet style. The Mexican restaurant was our second favorite with a set menu of nachos and fajitas but their fruit desert was amazing!. The Mediterranean was OK.. the chicken was good but they had a small menu to choose from. We heard good things about the Japanese restaurant but didn't have a chance to try it! We also were told there was an international and Italian restaurant but that turned out to be false! The nightly entertainment was great but we only went one night (smokers had us choking) and made our own fun the other nights! Staff were friendly but from my experiences in Cuba and St.Maarten, they were not the kindest! There was also a big language barrier for some resort staff. Also on the Saturday we noticed the buffet to be extremely full of local Dominicans (rich one with perfect hair, nails and outfits) all wearing a lime green and white color scheme... we were not sure why they were there and the food services were very slow that day because of the access. The resort also over booked 100 people!!!!! and left them without rooms, having to send some to another resort for the night while some just hung around waiting to be accommodated. Luckily this didn't happen to us or I would have been furious! All in all, we had a great time in Punta Cana at Be live but the vendors need to have more restrictions. They ruined the trip for us with their aggressive nature! More>

Very nice and clean place. Food is excellent and they have always something different each day. In the room, you have everything to be confortable. In the evening and after midnight, there is too much noise, because of the disco and the casino. At the beach, the sand is white, but the water is not clear (algues). More>

Upgraded to VIP!

This was our second time visiting this resort and we immediately got upgraded to VIP! We had a beautiful room overlooking a quiet pool and steps from the VIP beach area which had a great VIP bar . Our server Eddi was amazing . The beach had improved from last year as they put buoys out to prevent the seaweed from coming in. The beach was cleaned every day. The pool was immaculate. However we noticed the other pools weren't as clean. We loved the Mexican restaurant. ( tip go there for breakfast too . Much less crowded) the Mediteranean restaurant was great also. We had free wifi in our VIP lounge which was nice. Overall a great vacation. I'm not sure it would have been without the VIP upgrade. More>

Had a good time

My best friend and I just returned from this resort on Saturday. Overall, the vacation was great. The grounds, main lobby and beach were beautiful. The service at the buffet was sub-par. We would sit down in the outside area at a vacant table and more than once we either had to wait over 10 minutes for coffee or utensils. I know that these places are sometimes busy, but I really don't see how hard it is to put these things out. One of the times I actually went over and asked for utensils and still had to wait ten minutes to get them. However I found the food more than adequate - there was selection for several tastes and a few different things every day. I never had an issue finding something to eat. Contrasting the service at the Buffet, the service at the beach was amazing. We sat in the area where there are beds for rent($10) and the gentleman working for the entire week we were there was Elvin. I can't say enough good about him. He constantly checked on us but not in an overbearing manner, just a simple thumbs up and an "Everything ok miss". He also showed an abundance of patience when there was an extremely rude group of people next to us. I wouldn't have been able to do it! The a la cartes that we attended were good. The only thing that may be nice is if they explained to you how to order. Some places you get one of everything, and some places you have choice for some foods but not others. As far as the room goes, It was a double and quite large to be honest. Our air conditioning was not working on the first day, but they fixed it promptly. Then on our last day we woke up to a puddly bathroom from rain. We vacationed with Sunwing and they had a free wifi section, but the wifi in the 2nd lobby that was free we could not get to work, so we just stuck with the sunning section. More>
