Good 3 star hotel

We stay in this hotel while our Caribbean holidays . I will b short and say what I like and dislike Like : 1) deserts in buffets was amazing 2) animation team was really great they really trying hard to brighten ur day ! 3) lots of activities . 4) snack bar is a good thing. Dislike 1) in whole our trip nobody never change lines of beds etc ! First time ever I see that . First days we leave tips but when we forgot to leave tips 3 times we never got our room cleaned !!!!!! When I ask maid she just said ohh sorry ..2) most women in the hotel are grumpy and never smile ! Only guys men are welcome and nice . 3) too slow service buffet , sometimes we finish our food and never get a suggestion of drink 4) rooms are old like hell , pillows are worse ever , smell wetness .5) not enough vegetables in buffet , food just ok not delicious .6) no free wifi , and the one which is 1 h a day free is never working anyway .7) need pay to use safe box in the room too . So in general I can say it good , very good 3 stars hotel . If it would be 3 I would give it 5 star rating .I just have no idea why they call it 5 if it's just 3 max !

Very disappointing/Not a luxury experience at all

I have some comments but also some detailed description so maybe this hotel can consider objective feedback and improve. Hopefully it may help other travelers to make an informed decision. I live in Toronto, Canada and had returned to Dominican (my home country) to enjoy a nice resort the day before coming back. I have been in resorts since I’ve been in high school. Some really goods others not so much. Staying at this resort was not what I expected at all: Too expensive for what I got, bad food, lack of communication. Customer service needs to be improved. To me this is more of a 3-star resort not a 5-star as the website posts. Not worth the money, the time, the hassle. I reserved one night at this hotel on December 31st. If you want to know detailed things, read on. The concierge Nicolas was amazing. The receptionist, as well. Other than that I must say food, cocktails and snacks were not good, they should be improved. Some staff should be aware that we go for vacation and we would want to be treated in a friendly manner. The beach had Algae/Debris and here were vendors despite it being a “Private beach”. Bar fridge did not work. FOOD: The food was not up to standards, salads were not fresh at the time I went to eat (around 3:30ish) to the Main Buffet and the smell of it being rancid was overwhelming. The worst part about the salads is they offered the same ones at the night meal, as well! Same ones, same rancid smell. The night buffet had a lot of seafood however it tasted really bad and most other options (fried plantains were soft, oysters tasted weird, desserts were all very similar just different flavours or decoration) was not up to my expectations. I didn’t eat much as I did not find many options. It was New Year's and I was not able to get a restaurant reservation due to lack of info. Receptionist did not tell me reservations have to be made BEFORE 4PM and my check-in was at 3:00 PM. By the time I got to the room and unpacked, dressed I had no time. It seems it is made this way so it’s harder for new checked-in guests to book on time the first night. I was only there for 1 night so if receptionist had suggested/pointed-it out, It would have been appreciated and it is what you expect from the greeters of a resort as you start to plan your activities in their resort. This can be improved. Snacks: I went to the burger and fries as I was hungry, didn’t eat much at “lunch”. As I got in and few other behind me, staff closed the door right before a kid’s face. Two other people came behind and NONE of them were let in. I felt this was wrong, especially because they were just right there and one of them was a kid looking for a snack. I did a line for more than 15 min as most people were trying to get something to eat at 6:00ish. When it was my turns, there were no veggie or chicken burgers (I don’t eat beef). I did not see any person get a single burger from all of us that were in the line (15 or so people). They had Mozarella sticks (very good) and French fries (kinda good). DESSERTS at the Main buffet: It seems they use a pudding type of base to all of them! I felt I was being ripped off. The only thing I ate was icecream (Bon brand) and they were good and cold. The stations were not too organized/clean where the spoons and scoops were. There was no icecream cup or any plates there so I had to go to the food station to get one. The house wine (white) was horrible! The Presidente beer was good, not extremely cold as we Dominicans prefer it, but it was good. Breakfast was a bit better. I was pleased to see Almond Milk which is my preference but I was not offered it when my coffee was brought, I had mentioned the staff I did not drink milk. I only saw it after my coffee and food was done, when I went to get juice. I saw many juice options. They had no tags when I got to that station. A staff was there with the labels. I asked her if they had "Passion Fruit" she said no. I asked her (in Spanish) what was the very last one (in front of me with no label) and she said Pineapple. She was serious and not very friendly. She could have said what the rest of the juices were. I choose that Pineapple one, as I didn't know what other juices were the rest but it was so horrible! It felt like the "powdered" ones they sell that you just add water. Mangu (Mashed plantains) was good. The omelettes were good but there were some fruit flies around the veggies so I was a little hesitant to eat it. The cook was fast and friendly. BARS: I tried some beer and cocktails. The cocktails (Piña colada, BananaMamma were all pre-made. I thought they would have been prepared on the spot as some other nicer hotels do in blenders, adding fresh fruit etc. They were too sweet. Sometimes they were just the liquid and a little bit of ice on top when they should all have been a “frosty” type drink at some of the other bars at this resort. I am not a heavy drinker so I did not try anything else. I did not see detailed cocktail description anywhere. ROOM: When I got into the room, I saw water in the floor from the bar fridge to the balcony door. I noticed the Bar fridge was not working and all beverages were warm so I could not drink it. My room did not have the “Perks” they said one would (Champagne, Pillow menu, etc.) as stated in the Be Live Punta Cana hotel’s website. The cleanliness of the room was very good. Towels and sheets were white and felt good to the skin. There was a major inconvenience for me: THE INTERNET. The Wi-fi in the Pool area was supposed to be free. It was! But only for 1 HOUR during my whole stay (2 days one night). I had check-in to do, I had to communicate with my family, as I was there alone. I was not aware it was only one hour the day I got there. So the next day I hoped I had 1 hour for free to try to do all I had to. WRONG! No more free internet. I paid for 30 min and it was VERY EXPENSIVE in my opinion. I could not activate my roaming at this resort as something kept blocking it. It would have been more affordable for me to add a roaming package than to pay $7 or $8 (can’t remember exactly) for 15 min of internet. The other issue was, one could only use those 15 in at their “business centre” (basically an internet café). I noticed other resorts in the area offer free wi-fi internet in their resort! I did not see any limitations. The most important part. The BEACH:The beach is beautiful. I did find that there is too much algae/debris in it. Not sure if because of rain those days or what. It is a bit annoying when you are trying to relax and you feel that against your legs or arms, etc. but it’s nature so I put that aside. The blue lounge chairs in the beach were ok but a lot had broken parts. There are many vendors in the beach which is something you will see in Dominican local beaches but in a “Private Beach” resort this is really unacceptable when you go there to relax, unwind and enjoy without disturbances. I hope this can help this business improve as it is so sad to have such a wonderful country and so much resorts that need improvement: starting with the food!!! It is a shame to spend so much money on a place that is not worth it.

This hotel/resort serves a mass of people on the cheap. We were put there because "there was an error in our reservation" at what appears to be a sister resort: Presidential Suites. The hotel grounds and overall cleanliness of the resort were pretty good. With few exceptions, that is where the "pretty good" stops. Except for the Asian and Brazilian restaurants, the remaining restaurants were awful. The food was tepid if not cold and the servers were inattentive and aloof. This place is in the Caribbean. You would expect good, fresh seafood! Right?! Wrong. Every fish dish I had was VERY fishy tasting. The "Lobster House" had no lobster... The "Steak House" gave you a 6oz. Skirt steak. Although the resort is "all inclusive" all other steak options on the menu cost you. The Mediterranean restaurant, "Mylos" served a lobster linguini dish that was awful to the point of being unpalatable it was so old tasting. Wine at the bars sprinkled throughout the resort was poured from 1 gallon plastic jugs. You can guess the quality... Mixed drinks were made from the cheapest liquor possible, unless you generously tipped your bartender whereas quality liquor would mysteriously appear. The rooms were clean but sparse. There were no chairs in the room. The only furniture was a rock-hard bed, a day bed, dresser and end tables. There was no security lock mechanism on the door. There was a room safe, but it usually costs extra. One bright spot was the Day Spa where for $150 you could get a couples massage, bottle of champagne, sauna and jacuzzi. The jacuzzi did not work and only bubbled around cold water. The staff at the spa were extremely polite and friendly. There were a variety of vendors along the walkways at night selling all sorts of items from native crafts, alcohol, trinkets and cigars, and it was like running a gauntlet to get past them. Sattioned outside of the buffet restaurant in the morning were neatly dressed gents whose sole job was talk folks into attending a time-share presentation hawking the resort from which we were supposed to be going to stay. All in all, this place is a waste of time, money and the price of a plane ticket.

poor poor just about everything

When we first arrived we were shuffled to a lobby near the gym. There was free WIFI here which was nice, we were able to let family know we arrived safely. We stayed over my birthday and my husband inquired about VIP when we got there. it was going to be an additional $50/day/person. So we decided not to do it and maybe towards the end of our trip we might give it a whirl. Room: We got to our room (building 5, ground floor), it was a very basic room. Clean, some cracking tiles in the shower. TV, mini fridge, safe (an extra charge) and basic bathroom amenities. Our thinking was, we only sleep in here; we would survive. Food: We ate mostly buffet as it was very convenient. There is also a burger joint that served awesome chicken wings! we did have the à la cartes but they weren't really anything to write home about. For my birthday, my husband purchased the lobster dinner on the beach, it was tasty and romantic, however there was too much food and we couldn't eat it all. International brands of liquor were given to us if we asked for it. That's the mediocre bit, here is how our trip changed for the better... On my birthday, 3 days into our trip, we were told there was a problem with our room and the room next to us. Apparently, there was a letter left in our room telling us to find Mr. Montero. So my hubby found him and was told we would have to change rooms. My husband explained that it was my birthday and that I was relaxing on the beach, Mr. Montero offered us an upgraded room to building 7 along with VIP access for the remainder of our trip, if we could be out of our room in 20 mins. We were out in 15. Building 7 was a dream! And, the VIP so worth it! we don't have kids, nor are we rowdy teenagers, so having the exclusive adults only section was wonderful. They provided top shelf international brand liquor (i.e Johnnie Walker Black) and a private pool and beach. We no longer had to make reservations for dinners. Finally, the VIP lounge, had it's own bar, with WIFI and concierge that would check you out at the end of your stay. There was also a small snack bar in the lounge. We had a late flight, so they also provided us with late checkout. Our original mentality of "only sleeping of our room" changed and we spent some nice quiet time on to balcony and ordered room service. My husband has always said he would never sttay at the same resort twice; he insists on seeing different destinations and resorts. However, thanks to the upgrade, and Mr. Montero, Be Live Punta Cana has made customers for life. We share our experience with anyone who will listen as it was truly a memorable one. We will be back and we will do VIP again.
