This is fourth time booking with apple as a group (4 couples) and we were highly disappointed. Typically booking through apple gives us extra perks with the hotel. This instance we got nothing. The hotel was not great. We NEVER had enough towels or wash clothes even though there are only two people per room. That makes no sense to me. The staff was not friendly. No one communicated the events that would take place. Our apple representative was like a Dominican Police officer. Trying to force us to book an excursion and would not allow to look elsewhere. Of course, its a group of 8, so we made the best of it. But I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. And I am highly disappointed at the lack of benefits for booking through apple. If we get the same thing as everyone else, what is perk of booking through apple?

The restaurants were frustrating as the ala carte was booked from our arrival until we left. The rooms were uncomfortable. There was nothing to do at night. The pool was great though. Beach had a shelf ledge which makes swimming hard.

Our stay at Be Live Collection Marian in Puerto Plata Dom Rep was our 20th anniversary. We have stayed at many all inclusive resorts and have traveled on cruise ships. We are easy going people and would not let our surroundings determine the total quality of our vacation. With that being said, we had a VERY nice time at Be Live! It was probably the most beautiful pool we have seen yet. The beach was nice. The food was ok. BUT when we got there they had overbooked. We had reserved an ocean view room and they wanted to give us a garden view. They wanted us to check back in with them the next morning to see if "maybe" an ocean view had become available. We were VERY upset to say the least. I contacted the Apple rep. Rodolfo, who contacted the manager and got us our ocean view room. BUT...yes again but, it was a very very outdated room!! It had a broken cupboard door on the dresser, mold around the bathroom sink, a broken tub, falling ceiling panels in the bathroom, broken fridge, and old furniture. We decided at that point to just accept the view and enjoy our trip regardless of the accommodations. From that point on we found the staff to be less than attentive, although our maid service was excellent!! We had to ask for silverware, napkins, misc at every meal. There was a key card slot inside our room door also that you had to put your key card in to turn on the lights. I have never seen this in a hotel or resort. It was a way to pinch pennies I guess. Like I said, we had a wonderful trip, but it was not due to the resort. This resort falls seriously short of what we feel the rating was. We would not recommend this to anyone!

We were in buildng 3, beachfront. Very nice older building. My biggest complaint was the trash intermingled with the sea weed that was washed ashore, and the trash in the sand, where people had left cups, straws, etc. They need more trash cans and more attention to beach cleanup.

Review of Apple Onsite Rep
DIANA K.
Mar 02 2016
On Friday before our departure on Saturday we met with the Apple Rep (Luis) to see what time we needed to be ready for our airport transportation. We had three bookings, 5 people total. He looked up our information and advised we needed to be in the lobby at 1:20 (we had a 3:15 flight). I was checked out and in the lobby at approximately 12:10 when Luis approached me to see where the rest of my party was. I advised that they were not yet ready and they still had an hour to arrive for the transportation. There was a bus outside the lobby and he said we had to be on that bus in the next 5 minutes if we wanted to get to the airport. I explained that that was not possible because the rest of my group were not yet ready as we had been told 1:20 was our time. He was very, very rude to me and said it was our fault even though he admitted he had told us 1:20 was our time. He said that we did not have our Apple paperwork when we saw him the day before. I advised that if he needed our paperwork he would have only had to ask and we would have been more than happy to go to our rooms and get he information. He looked on his Apple paperwork and verified all three bookings when he gave us the time. He told me I had 15 minutes to get all of my party to the lobby or we would not be provided transportation. To say that it was a very bad way to end the vacation is an understatement.

1. There was no Casino in the hotel. It has been closed to sometime. 2. Maid service was so so. They didn't leave enough towels and had to chase them down for water. 3. The description of the hotel says, take a stroll along the Marina. What Marina?, 20 minutes away. no live music at all. We were bldg 9, third floor with no elevator. Our balcony view was a ton of garbage across the way, not on the hotel property, but one would think they should had cleaned it.

The hotel was ok, the staff was not as attentive as I've seen in other resorts. The hotel room was old (very outdated) and it smelled really bad. I've had to wash my clothes twice to get the musty smell out. I realize it is on the ocean, but I have not had this experience wtih other ocean front rooms.

The good - not too many people in Puerto Plata (maybe it's coz Punta Cana is so much nicer), so no need to fight for a beach chair. The bad - hotel very stingy with food selection in kind and quality, slices of cheese instead of chunks for you to help yourself to, few options for fresh tropical fruits, not even a softserve machine or free popcorn and nachos (like Iberostar Dominicana in Punta Cana where we went to twice), and managers not really insight in restaurants or other areas of the property to oversee staff and keep things moving. The ugly - photographers with iguanas, local tour agents walking all over the property, even pool side, to pitch. Where's the peace and quiet I am looking for? And what about security and safety when there are all these 'strangers' all over the place? Nightly entertainment was bad - bathing suit contest for little girls? asking little boys to strut their stuff copying moves by male dancers? how sexist and disgusting! Punta Cana's Iberostar Dominicana was much, much better. And tons of sea grass on the beach and garbage galore at mouths of rivers bordering beach properties, these are no-man's land (not hotel property) so glass bottles, plastic junk everywhere, washing into the ocean. Yuck, yuck, yuck. Won't be going back to Puerto Plata for sure, and certainly not to Be Live Grand Marien. Head to Punta Cana's Iberostar Dominicana instead.

The ground are very beatuiful and the pools are great. Also, the food was quite good. There were very few people staying there at the time and most of them were older, not very outgoing and didn't take part part in many activities. We are 62 & 69 years old and found this hotel to be boring. We like to dance and there was very little chance for that, except to go to their disco late at night. The activity staff didn't get out and engage the guests as much as they should have. Some people we talked to said they liked this place because it was "very relaxing". If that's what you're after, it may be for you. However, we can relax at home.

Underwhelming Experience

First off, I've been coming to the Dominican for the past 15 years and been to several resorts in both Puerto Plata and Punta Cana. I actually stayed at this same resort several years ago when it was the Oasis Marien. Unfortunately we had a pretty poor experience this second time around. Our room was severely run down with broken and damaged furniture and a bed as hard as a board of plywood. The ceiling of our bathroom was severely bowed (probably from water damage above us) and the cleaning job every day was so-so. We were in building 7 and I understand the renovated rooms in building 6 & 8 are much nicer. Our A/C broke twice and our toilet broke once. For one day, the entire resort lost water pressure. The biggest let down of this resort was the lack of cleanliness and apparent lack of staff. The resort (with the exception of the Spa) was filthy on a daily basis. There were water pressure issues all week resulting in backed-up toilets that were never cleaned or pumped out. They were over flowing by the weekend when the resort lost all water pressure and the local stormed in. Floors rarely swept or mopped, cups/plates/garbage left for hours or days in common areas such as the lobby. The buffet was terrible and downright disgusting most days. There were barely enough plates to go around and most of the time the china or glassware was chipped or cracked. Food stations were almost always empty. If you were lucky and got a staff to bring you some water or coffee in the buffet, they surely would never come back around to fill it up again. Some wait staff worked very hard while others just sort of floated around. It always looked like there were not enough staff or china to handle the demand despite the resort not being very busy. This resort caters to locals and they stormed the place on the weekend. They took over every aspect of the resort and the staff really started to ignore the tourists to chat with their compardes. The a la carte restaurants were amazing and we stuck to those every night for dinner. Friendly, engaging staff with pretty good food options and great atmosphere. The Spa was also very tranquil and clean with friendly staff. The location was conveniently close to the airport and the beach was clean and scenic. BEWARE of the sales reps that push the VIP upgrade! They constantly hound you at the pool trying to get you to buy a timeshare. Unfortunately this resort was not worth the money we paid.

The price was good. The resort was nice...

After 18 cruises, this was our first all inclusive. We found a deal through Tripcentral.ca, who supplied this Westjet vacation. Hola tours was the name of the group at the resort. All in all we had a good time. What was amazing: the beach, the grounds, the pool, the staff, and their commitment to guests. What was not amazing: the food, some other rude/inconsiderate guests (which is not the hotels fault). What was Meh!?: the hotel room, the drinks (too watered down, or sickeningly sweet), and sanitation rules surrounding public eating areas. The general area outside the resort is safe (daytime anyhow)...and there are buses (which are dumpy passenger mini vans) which run up and down the main drag constantly ($1 USD pp)..they can take you downtown to the local Walmart (called Jumbo in PP). At Jumbo you can get pretty much anything you can at a small walmart. Its a cultural experience getting to the Jumbo..i.e. riding in buses with the locals, seeing the town as you drive through it, and the way they drive (maniacs by our standards). The people are all extremely friendly, though most dont speak much english). You dont have to take the bus, and the walk is fine, but be mindful of open manholes and protruding metal on the sidewalks. Not a safe place to text and walk. To elaborate on the resort; the pool was huge and gorgeous. A lot of people were from Canada (we would estimate 80% during our visit). The room was like a 2 star hotel in Canada, but it was pretty good for DR. We had no issues with the room at all. However, if we were to go again we would bring our own snacks, and drink mix (clamato, orange juice, etc), and a suitcase full of medicines. During our stay one of us got deathly sick and was basically in bed for 3 days (we later talked to numerous other guests with the same symptoms as us). The rules at the buffet are nil, and people are touching food with their hands, kids playing in the ice cream bins, etc. (your not even allowed in the buffet on a cruise unless they see you sanitize your hands - which we totally agree with). If we got a good deal we would probably go back...we would just plan to bring more of our own things thats all.

Good overall stay and surperb service

Kudos to all staff, they provided me with excellent service, very professional and kind :) Special mention goes to Mosquito (animation interim in charge), he is a fantastic animator, lots of energy, well known and loved by guest and staff, he should be promoted to the Sports and entertainment manager position, he definately has what it takes to excel at that position. Another special mention goes to the gentleman in charge of the pool maintenance, he is always cheeful, polite, he does his job with pride and passion .... Well done Be Live Marien... I have stayed here several times, it won't be the last :) #belivemarien#mosquito#awesomeguy. #bestinthegendre#watyforty

Trip of a lifetime! Can't say enough about the entertainment crew! Luis David, Bladimir, Cesar, and Spaghetti were some of the best people I've ever met. Always kept me entertained and made me look forward to every day! Also, if you stay here, make sure to go to the Dance Bar every night...you won't regret it!

This was my favourite resort that I've ever been to. The entertainment staff were phenomenal and always made me laugh. Throughout the day, there are lot's of activities you can take part in such as dance lessons, yoga, water polo, swimming contests, volleyball, etc. The entertainment at night time was also good with a variety of shows at 9:30 pm every night (very talented dancers), live music by the pool bar with dancing on the pool deck, and then an upbeat disco in the lobby bar with the entertainment staff and the dancers from the show. We stayed in deluxe rooms which were bright, spacious, and clean. The pool was very large and during our time there (April 9th-16th) was never crowded and was the perfect temperature. The beach was also beautiful with a lot of area to walk. The downsides of the beach are that it had a lot of pushy vendors on it and the water was always pretty rough. The food was pretty good, but not the best. The buffet was fairly repetitive but there was always something that was yummy. All in all, this resort was a blast and I highly recommend it to everyone. We would go back in a heartbeat.
