instead of a king bed we got 2 doubles, how romantic. went to call the front desk and the phone did not work. there were no towels. After the second day, montizuma's revenge and the Apple Rep say'sno over the counter must see the doc$$. on the last day, I find the anti-med in the store downstairs. It is an illusion.

This hotel was not one of the fancier ones in Punta Cana, but the description given is spot on. Pictures are exactly what is shown. It has everything you need. It is well kept, clean and everything to keep you entertained. We would definitely stay at this location again. In a previous review it mentioned the elevators not working properly, that is true also. The worked for most of the time. They were slow and small. They also were very hot inside of them. But your only in them that long. Overall it was a great experience. I would also recommend this location.

Other than our Bellman, Waitress, and Towel Boy, the service was awful! We were watched and followed at the Gift Shops. We asked if additional merchandise was available in back, the worker said maybe. We asked if she could check and she said no. We asked our kids to put everything down, that we would not buy anything while she was working. The staff in the Buffet was awful! Not friendly, not helpful. The staff in the sit down restaurants were very nice and helpful.

We had water leaking out of the bathroom ceiling for more than 4 days. I asked twice for room change and it was denied. We did not have clean towels in the room for 3 days and our complementary bottles of water were never refilled.

The beach was beautiful and loved access to the beach equipment, chairs were always available. The food was mostly unrecognizable to Americans, theme nights were not relevant at all. Restaurant staff seemed to ignore us most of the meals, very rarely were we served drinks - we had to help ourselves when others all around us would be served. Check-in was the most unorganized process I have ever experienced, very poor first impression of the hotel staff! It seemed to us that the only way to get service or help was banging on the counter and speaking loudly lin Spanish. Room attendants didn't understand that a group of 4 people needed 4 towels and 4 washcloths every day - we would have to go get our own every day. Nightly entertainment was a joke - same dances/moves each night just a change of costume - not entertaining! The pools were beautiful and the 2 staff running the "Aerobics" were a lot of fun! If you just want the beach and pool they were wonderful!

The Hotel advertised 7 restaurants only 3-4 were open .... You had to make reservations... They served the same type of food in the buffet everyday .... Our hotel room at cockroaches coming from the restroom..

First of all, don't believe all the negative reviews. This place was exactly what you pay for and then some and I would most definitely go back! These people that are complaining have champagne taste on a beer budget. There wasn't any problem with checking in and we were greeted by smiling employees and a waitress brought us all a drink while we were waiting. They directed us to our room (2303) which was beautiful just like the pictures on their website. The resort is good size but after a day you know where everything is so it's not that difficult to figure out. Food is decent and out of 6 of us none of us got sick.. This was our first time staying at an all inclusive but from what I've gathered from friends the food is like that at pretty much any resort. The Japanese restaurant was by far the best and the waiter and chef were hilarious! If you're expecting a waitress to follow you around and get you drinks every 5 mins, you need to go to a $6k+ resort where they do that. There are bars everywhere and if you're too lazy to walk 5 steps to get your own drink, you need to go to a more expensive resort. The drinks are by no means watered down..One drink and you'll be feeling good! Tip a couple dollars and it'll go a long way. As far as staff being rude..We never came across a single rude person. Everyone was awesome and always had a smile on their face. And remember, these people work 16+ hours a day and NEVER stop and they are still very friendly!! Yes, many of them don't speak very good English but these people have to learn several different languages! If they don't understand what you're asking, they'll find someone else who does. The pools are amazing, the beach was amazing, the grounds and the entire place are very clean and there are constantly people working and maintaining the property. Again, if you are expecting the Ritz, spend the money and go to the Ritz. This vacation was worth every penny spent. I have 0 compalints with Barcelo Punta Cana! Side-note: We did not purchase internet because we wanted to enjoy ourselves and be disconnected. The other two couples that we were with purchased it and it worked all week with no problems. Great Spring Break Destination - But not for families... and have to work to understand service expectations.

Too much weight and preference given to spring break college students. Very loud and too much of a party atmosphere. As a paying family, we felt like we did not matter. Late night partying and constant loud music grew tiring. We were told this was not a "big" spring break destination. Nothing could be further than the truth. Had to ask for cleaning service 4 of the 7 days. Did not know what to expect and had inconsistent messaging on making dinner reservations. Staff was overall not helpful here. No snacks available. Resort was not interested in customer service.

The expectations we had set according to the information on the Apple Vacation website were high and when we arrived each one was met. We had a great time and the apple reps before leaving and while on vacations did a great job making sure we were completely satisfied. I will always recommend Apple Vacation. Very impressed and happy.

My family & I had an incredible experience at The Occidental Caribe Hotel Resort - from the multiple pools, bars, local activities/entertainment to, of course, enjoying the beach while watching the waves come in...just breathtaking and so RELAXING! The staff were also AMAZING - so attentive, friendly and courteous. We honestly didn't want to leave we had so much fun. Thanks for the memories - would love to return in the future!!! : )

Where to start, the hotel was okay. We loved the size and the layout. Our room was just steps away from the pool and beach. The resort lies horizontal on the beach so you never have a far walk to anything. The food in the buffet was awful. If you got the cook to order food it was fine but when ordering the fresh pasta tell them no salt or easy on the salt. For me it was way too salty to even eat one day. The fresh eggs and omelets in the morning were very good and the bread was very tasty. We went to the Japanese, Mexican, and Italian restaurants and the food in all of them was great. I would definitely recommend booking specialty restaurants every night rather than going to the buffet. You can go to guest services every morning and make a reservation for that day. We never had a problem getting a reservation. Jose at the pool bar was absolutely amazing. His service always went above and behind for us. We tipped him everyday and his service was well worth it. The bar with the live band is obnoxiously loud in my opinion. It sounded great from our balcony but I couldn't stand even walking through that area. The other side has a bar as well that does more piano, saxophone, classical type music. That was really great and enjoyable to sit there have a conversation and a drink. The rooms are fairly large with lots of room to move around. The beds were hard but definitely on the newer side. We had no beer in our mini fridge the first day but a quick call to the front desk and we never had an issue again. Our safe also didn't work but maintenance came and fixed that once we were back in our room. The rooms were clean, sometimes were were missing towels, one day no face cloths, another no hand towel. Just random things that were forgotten but also not a big deal to us. The beach is beautiful and always clean! The pool is also very nice. There are two of them, one on each side and both are beautiful. One has a pool bar, the other does not. We didn't go to any of the shows so I can't speak on that. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful. Most spoke very good English. They will give you free wifi for a day if you write a 5* review on their facebook page. That being said don't trust the reviews you read on facebook. All in all the resort met my expectations for the price we paid. Not the best and not the worst. We were there for 5 days and enjoyed the amenities. Realistically my main issue was the food at the buffet. Everything else met the 4* rating.

Visit number 6... another great experience.

This was our sixth visit to this resort over the last two years. We still absolutely love this place. A few changes were made to the property due to the Hurricane and renovations but it remains picture perfect. This place has truly become our second family. It's absolutely amazing every time we come just how warmly we are greeted by the staff. We have come to know quite a few of them and it warms our hearts to see them each time.. Ok.. the particulars. Check in was as smooth as silk. Angela greeted us with a hug and that smile on her face that we have become accustomed to. Some of her staff has changed but they were fantastic. New additions were Yaritza who went out of her way to learn how to make a mudslide for us in about 15 minutes. We got to know her pretty fast as she is very outgoing and funny. It was also good to see Donia as she as well, always has a warm smile. Our rooms were in a great location. They are still a bit dated but extremely comfortable, spacious, and had everything we needed. the view from our balcony was worth a million bucks We had dinner at the Mexican, Japanese, Seafood, and Italian restaurants. always left feeling satisfied.. sometimes overly full! The staffs at these restaurants are incredible. Some we knew, some we didn't. As usual, we had phenomenal service. Joryino, Maria, and Clarissa to name a few are the best there. Great to see Juan Pablo as well.. he's now joined the staff and does a great job! For lunch, we had pizza, burgers, and The Mexican restaurant by day, which serves sandwiches and fish. Breakfast is always the buffet. Love the made to order egg bars. The property: Beach is the best on Bavaro beach. Huge area to sit, never a fight for a chair, and the water is primo... especially for body surfing. It can be a little rough but our group likes to body surf so we were good! Pool areas were immaculate. Both pools were renovated and perfect! Thanks to the staff and we'll be back soon. Special thanks to Angela, Maria, and Mr. Marcos! Our group of 8 (ages 18, 20, 24 and 46ish) who do not speak Spanish, stayed from Dec 26 - Jan 2. It was an amazing week!! The check in was completed quickly. Our request for rooms together was provided without any issues. The front desk was also very accommodating replacing the numerous lost room keys. One morning we awoke to a very wet bathroom floor due to water leaking from the ceiling light. We headed to the beach and left it for the cleaning staff to deal with. When we returned to the room at 5pm, all had been taken care of. All of the rooms were cleaned daily, towels replaced and the mini bars restocked. Our group had no problems getting dinner reservations for every night of our stay. It was not necessary to book early in the morning. We never booked until around 1pm and were able to book restaurants 2-3 nights in advance. We experienced excellent service from all of the hotel employees, but I want to make a special mention to Victoria Ortiz in the lobby bar. Our group has a special drink that we refer to as 'The Jam". Every bartender attempted to make the drink to our liking (and most succeeded) but Victoria went above and beyond. She actually brought freshly squeezed pineapple juice from her home daily to enhance our drinks. This made a huge difference from the pre-mixed pineapple juice. Now that's service!!.

We were fortunate to have Yileiny Ramos serve my wife and I drinks during our extended stay at Occidental Caribe Hotel. She was kind, polite , courteous and very attentive. She always had a friendly smile and never forgot about us .
