Barcelo Puerto Vallarta

We really enjoyed our stay! Great food, staff and location. Barcelo is just the right size. The only complaint i have is when we got to our room, there were no towels, no beach towels, no slippers or robe and this was something that was supposed to be a perk of staying in the premium level. We did not really know what we were missing until we started asking around. We told the local Apple Representative about this the following morning after check in but i don't know if he really did anything about it. the other thing I wanted to mention is the free tour of Puerto Vallarta that comes with the room is really just a shopping spree. They do stop at certain tourist spots but mainly stop at different shops along the way so people can shop. Not our cup of tea. However, when we voiced our displeasure to the tour guide they happily dropped us back at the resort, so we didn't have to find our own mode of transportation back. All in all, we know a lot more now then we did before, would go back and would stay at Barcelo again. It was a beautiful place.

Friendly staff, but cleanliness was an afterthought.

The rooms were generally clean, and the staff were pretty friendly. Though I could tell that the silverware needed to be cleaned thoroughly, but rarely was. On multiple occasions I noticed black flakes / oil / heavy smudges on our forks/knives/cups. Additionally, my wife got food poisoning for half the trip, which I would not be surprised if it was from the dirty silverware.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful and lived up to everything that we expected. The staff were incredibly friendly and honestly went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The hotel was very private to its surroundings which was great, but also close enough to downtown to hop in a cab whenever we wanted to do something different. I would recommend this hotel for anyone; from couples to families with children!

This is a very nice hotel. The food is just ok, kind of the same thing everyday. If you are looking for nightlife this isn't the place. The bar is nice but it is small and It usually closes about 12 or 1am. It is clean and it is well maintained. We had a small leak in the bathroom, we told the front desk and they had maintenance there within 5 minutes. He fixed the leak and all was good. This hotel is far from downtown but you can take a bus into town that stops right in front of the hotel for 8 pesos. We would take the bus into town and a cab back. The cab from the Melacon was 150 pesos. The pools are nice. 2 seem to always be in the shade so they are cold but the main pool is nice and it does have a swim up bar. The staff are always friendly and helpful Tip them well they work really hard at making you happy! The beach is rough. It is very small and the sand is like little rocks, so don't walk barefoot. there is a couple little huts on the beach that do massage for $20 per person!! Unheard of, We went to the hut all the way to the right the last little hut and they gave the deepest deep tissue massage I've ever had!! Very good massage! The specialty restaurants are mediocre. But all in all it is a beautiful hotel and very clean. The people are amazing. We have been there twice now and each time was wonderful!

not like it was on previous stays

We have stayed @ Barceló on several occasions, my stay this time was not quite up to par with previous stays. The changes were subtle, probably not noticeable if we had not stayed there in past. Our 2 bdrm family suite was in need of some tlc, sink did not drain in one bathroom, neither hair dryer worked and several lights not working. If you like washcloths best bring your own. We had to call housekeeping 4 times too have room cleaned. The game room has been remodeled, they took out the pool table & replaced it with token operated games (the tokens price is ridiculous (10 tokens for 16.00 usd) games were timed for 30 seconds per game. in my opinion extremely overpriced.

Room occupancy

It was only my husband and I and we were giving a room with 2 double beds. When going on a vacation we would gave much rather preferred a king sized bed. They ended up trying to accommodate and put the two beds together but you could still feel the crack.

Mosquitoes ruined it!

The $500 resort credit provided by Apple Vacation is a hoax, there is no such thing. Barcelo totally denied it. The hotel premium concierge service were not happy to make any changes to the dinner reservations already. The guy at the service desk kept winking at my daughter and my wife. Lots of mosquitoes, we have bites all over our legs & arms which itch like hell and now we have to taking antibiotics. Restaurants are average, nothing special. The main chef at the buffet was actually able to prepare a much better three course dinner for us exclusively. Both the showers in the bathrooms had water drainage issue, we complained twice and we were told it was fixed but it actually got worse. Not returning to this resort.

Friendly people, poor quality hotel

Nice friendly staff,, room was not terrible but not good. Showers were poor and didn't drain well. Food was well below average. Usually gain a couple pounds on vacation, not on this one. Drinks were the same. Oh yea,,and we did upgrade to the premium at booking. So I can only imagine how bad it could have been. For those that read the recommendations, like we did, this is a honest opinion for a family of five (kids13,11,7). I would not recommend Barcelo Puerto Vallarta.

Scary
LINDA H.
Mar 20 2017
The last night of my stay I came back to my room and my door was open and there was a receipt from the front office laying inside my room on the ledge inside the door. When I walk down to the office to ask them why that was put in my room and my door left open they told me they'd never would do that. The bellboy showed me where he would've put it in the door either in the crack of the door or under the door . He said he would play back the security cameras and see what was going on he called me when I he asked me if I was going back to my room and I said yes and I was scared. I looked under the bed I looked under the vanity I looked in the closet's was I thought someone could've been hiding in my room. Nothing appeared to be missing but it still made me wonder why my door was left open. They called me at my room and said that they've discovered that the apparatus that the room key slid into needed new batteries and that's why my door opened but they swore up-and-down that they never would open my door to put that receipt from my charges inside my room. I do not believe that this was true . Since I am a widow and I was in my room alone it was quite scary. Also my room was not ready when I got there they told me that it would be ready in a half an hour and I waited until almost 4 o'clock in the afternoon before it was open so I could go in and put my suitcase in my room and kind of get settled and the floor was dirty.

We came in January with our two small toddlers and my parents; our room was amazing and perfect for vacationing with small children. As soon as you entered the unit there was a bedroom; this is where we kept the kids. Then, you walked down a short hallway, passed by two bathrooms, and entered the main room with a king bed, balcony, TV, mini bar etc. So we could still stay up and have a nightcap on our balcony without worrying about waking the babies. It was perfect for us! We loved the view from our balcony - it was magical to wake up to. You don't go to Barcelo PV for the beach - it's small, and the red flag was waving every day we were there so we didn't dare bring the youngsters in. The pools are wonderful and clean, and it's a real treat to get drinks ordered in through the pool staff. The a la carte restaurants are fantastic. We ate at the Italian, Spanish and japanese restaurants and loved them all. My two year old got sick one night all over the bed and in a panic I called the front desk - they sent housekeeping over within minutes and she was so lovely in changing the sheets for us. The staff at Barcelo PCV are truly lovely. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

Mismaloya is far south of Puerto Vallarta Centro. taxi around 200 peso to city center. nice resort with public beach and lots of boats looking for snorkel business. not what it was 5 years ago. 3 food vendors with beach chairs. fried fish from 120 peso beer from 25 pesos. Barcelo day visit peso 900. public bus 8 peso to town. lots of locals over mothers day. i prefer Nuevo Vallarta over this location. meutermedia

First and best part of Barcelo Puerto Vallarta is the staff. The ones I remember most are Christian at the front desk that got our family room changed to 2 queens, no problema! Oscar Hernandez in the buffet restaurant that manages to do the work of 3 people with a friendly smile always! Also Ms. Rodriguez making the best tacos al pastor at the lunch bar. (Tip the staff people, they work hard to please the guests.) The room: Very spacious, 2 kings with separate bedrooms, tv's in each, room safe, a fridge with drinks and snacks left daily (just leave a note with the items you prefer) and a balcony with an amazing view. Cleaned perfectly daily! The 3 pools were a perfect temperature. The main pool with a swim up bar is very large with a nice swim up bar. The busy bartender will make drinks as strong as you want, just ask. Iguanas if you look closely on the other side of the pool. Quieter pool on the north side with a hot tub that is actually hot in the middle (rare find in Mexico) We had a 3 year old grandson so a lot of time was spent at the separate waterslide area for the small kids...perfect. They also have a volleyball pool and another hot tub that we never used. The entertainment staff did a good job without bothering those that didn't wish to participate. Ping pong table by the kids pool. We haven't tried the specialty restaurants, as we enjoy the buffet with the view of the beach. Plenty of selection with a different theme daily. They always have chefs in the center of the buffet that will cook things to order. The breakfast buffet is the best, especially with the fresh orange juice squeezing machine! The poolside taco bar was great for tacos or casual dining from a menu if you prefer. Ice cream machine there. If you desire a change of pace, there are several local restaurants right outside the hotel, El Jacalito, Tony's, various beach restaurants and our favorite this time was Ramada Miramar that I did a separate review on. The beach is fun, plenty big enough for us, with a short walk along the shoreline that is paved and an easy stroll. There are $20 massages just down the beach for a whole hour. It's nice to be away from the crowds, yet it is only a 20 minute cab ride to the Malecon in PV, or a cheap bus ride for adventure. Another fun part of this hotel is all the available activities you can do yourself without the expensive tours. I recommend the zoo where you can pet baby tigers etc (expensive) or just tour the zoo for $10. Bring your bug spray, it's in the jungle. Spend the $3 for the cab instead of walking. El Eden is about a 3 mile cab ride up a dirt road, where you can slide down a waterfall for free and see where The Predator was made. They also have 13 ziplines up there. Avoid the restaurant there. Bungee jumping is right before the hotel if you want a thrill. Botanical gardens is not too far south of the hotel. You can hire a boat on the beach to go to Los Arcos for $50 an hour. We always book a day with Sergio Lopez of Galilea Tours. He has the nicest boat there, twin engine with a toilet etc. He'll customize a day for Yelapa, Quixmoto Falls on horseback, snorkeling, remote beaches etc. I posted a few activity pics from around the Barcelo, since others have posted all the beautiful views around the hotel. Our 3 year old enjoyed the game room, get tokens at the gift shop. Barcy kid's club was fun for him too, for a couple of hours. The souvenir shop is very inexpensive, unlike other hotels. Bring your pesos for the shops (they don't exchange dollars) or just charge things to the room. We didn't have bug bite issues in April, but there is free bug spray at the cantina bar. Towel cards are used, plenty of chairs, so no need for towel games. I tried to cover it all, but feel free to message with any questions.

First day was rough since out bathroom was dirty and had few issues with room restocking also they had 2 weddings that were blasting music and blocked out half of the resort witch noone told us about. Other than that perfect getaway ways from city and very friendly staff made our stay worth the money
