not like it was on previous stays
BARBARA C.
Aug 11 2017
We have stayed @ Barcel on several occasions, my stay this time was not quite up to par with previous stays. The changes were subtle, probably not noticeable if we had not stayed there in past. Our 2 bdrm family suite was in need of some tlc, sink did not drain in one bathroom, neither hair dryer worked and several lights not working. If you like washcloths best bring your own. We had to call housekeeping 4 times too have room cleaned. The game room has been remodeled, they took out the pool table & replaced it with token operated games (the tokens price is ridiculous (10 tokens for 16.00 usd) games were timed for 30 seconds per game. in my opinion extremely overpriced.

It was only my husband and I and we were giving a room with 2 double beds. When going on a vacation we would gave much rather preferred a king sized bed. They ended up trying to accommodate and put the two beds together but you could still feel the crack.

Mosquitoes ruined it!

The $500 resort credit provided by Apple Vacation is a hoax, there is no such thing. Barcelo totally denied it. The hotel premium concierge service were not happy to make any changes to the dinner reservations already. The guy at the service desk kept winking at my daughter and my wife. Lots of mosquitoes, we have bites all over our legs & arms which itch like hell and now we have to taking antibiotics. Restaurants are average, nothing special. The main chef at the buffet was actually able to prepare a much better three course dinner for us exclusively. Both the showers in the bathrooms had water drainage issue, we complained twice and we were told it was fixed but it actually got worse. Not returning to this resort.

Friendly people, poor quality hotel

Nice friendly staff,, room was not terrible but not good. Showers were poor and didn't drain well. Food was well below average. Usually gain a couple pounds on vacation, not on this one. Drinks were the same. Oh yea,,and we did upgrade to the premium at booking. So I can only imagine how bad it could have been. For those that read the recommendations, like we did, this is a honest opinion for a family of five (kids13,11,7). I would not recommend Barcelo Puerto Vallarta.

The last night of my stay I came back to my room and my door was open and there was a receipt from the front office laying inside my room on the ledge inside the door. When I walk down to the office to ask them why that was put in my room and my door left open they told me they'd never would do that. The bellboy showed me where he would've put it in the door either in the crack of the door or under the door . He said he would play back the security cameras and see what was going on he called me when I he asked me if I was going back to my room and I said yes and I was scared. I looked under the bed I looked under the vanity I looked in the closet's was I thought someone could've been hiding in my room. Nothing appeared to be missing but it still made me wonder why my door was left open. They called me at my room and said that they've discovered that the apparatus that the room key slid into needed new batteries and that's why my door opened but they swore up-and-down that they never would open my door to put that receipt from my charges inside my room. I do not believe that this was true . Since I am a widow and I was in my room alone it was quite scary. Also my room was not ready when I got there they told me that it would be ready in a half an hour and I waited until almost 4 o'clock in the afternoon before it was open so I could go in and put my suitcase in my room and kind of get settled and the floor was dirty.

The Barcelo is amazing hotel. My wife and I have stayed there 5 times now and will return. There are only a few things that need to be improved: 1. The drinks lack enough alcohol. 2. Our first night, there was a party in a room close to ours that woke us up at 4:30am and lasted to 5:30am. We called to let the front desk know, but it took 1 hour to finally get the party shout down.

This is a smaller all-inclusive hotel, but in my opinion "top notch." The room was clean and quite large with a separate sitting area. It was quite insulated as you couldn't hear any noise in the hall or outside. The food was excellent in all of the restaurants. The staff was friendly and efficient. The pool areas provided something for everyone with even a small children's pool with a slide for the little ones. The bars were quite numerous so you didn't have to wait for service. All in all we had a great vacation at the Barcel. If you are a beach lover the beach is tiny, but nice to watch boats from the pool area. I would recommend the Barcel for a relaxing vacation.

I have traveled to Mexico for the last 12 years. I always get the best deal for the money. I have been disappointed several times because of the promises and pictures of resorts were no accurate. I was not disappointed with this resort! Great deal for the money! Service, food, entertainment and overall resort were excellent. I recommend this resort if you are looking for the best for the money.

We had a great family vacation. The room had two separate bedrooms and bathrooms which was excellent for a family of four. The pools were great and the kids had an absolute blast. We are planning on returning next year.

Beautiful resort

We visited for a week over New Years Eve. The grounds are exceptional. Lush and perfectly maintained. There are several house iguanas that are fun to watch while in the (heated) pools and around. The small public beach is free of seaweed. Nice to walk down to iguana point, past fabulous massage vendors ($20/hr -Suzy will set you up). Plenty of boats avail to take you snorkeling at Los Arcos (see Suzy on the beach - $10pp). Note: tip Suzy’s people - they do a great job. Daytime pool entertainment staff does a great job, too - Nice touch when they offer free temple massages and cool eye towel/cucumbers. Good for families for basic all inclusive vacation. 4 choices for breakfast...premium lounge, room service, buffet and Los Arcos. No room service charge for premium guests. Room spacious and clean and amazing view, nice patio with table, chairs. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Bring plenty of tip cash - they work hard. But...Sunset cannot be seen from resort. All pool chairs were reserved by 7am. The moon was still out and people were reserving their chairs. Premium lounge would be much nicer if staff got up and maintained the lounge by restocking and having wine opener, water bottles available without asking. Waited long time before being greeted upon check in. Guests must wear plastic wristbands - color coded by (under)age and also premium guest. WiFi very spotty. We had to have reset several times, even though we were not over our (4) device limit. We had a family room on 9th floor - zero connection in 2nd bedroom. In our opinion, food was just ok for dinner at specialty restaurants. Our favorite dinner restaurant was Los Arcos. We had one sick family member - down for 2 entire days. Many other vacationers were sick, we learned. Bring your own medicine, just in case. Shows just ok (Michael Jackson show was great and kids enjoyed Decades). Shows take place in banquet rooms. 3 of 4 in our party didn’t love their massage. ATM fee extremely high - $35 usd service fee per transaction. Although it was a nice vacation, we’ve preferred other resorts, especially in Nuevo Vallarta.

The cons: slow check in process, very noisy at night in building 1, not enough staff at breakfast buffet. The pros: excellent specialty restaurants (always have dinner at one of these), clean and well maintained pools and public areas, very spacious rooms and comfortable beds, fun bar (but only one) with live bands most nights (people will dance but not really set up for it, so if you are looking for a dance club, this may not be the hotel for you), fun swim up bar, great pools, two hot tubs, easy swimming beach in the beautiful cove of Mismaloya. Note this hotel is fairly south of town (20-30 minutes by cab), but the location is a gem. Maybe spend a couple of nights in town at hotel Rio and then the rest of your stay at this all inclusive.

Bad concierge service, the food was denny's quality. The beach was blocked in by two walls, not much to do, the pool was cold. The gym was a joke, and the spa is not a spa, it only had a fill in tub that they consider a Jacuzzi. I asked the front desk for the wifi password and they wouldn't give it to me because I was considered a premium guest and I had to go to a different desk to get that info. Their night shows were also a joke, most were below average, only 2 from the 5 nights were good.

Our Second Stay at this BEAUTIFUL resort!
gunnergoo, Michigan
Mon Jan 15 05:56:14 EST 2018
My family (husband and adult son) visited the Barcello over the Christmas holidays and was our second stay at this facility. The Barcello is about a 40 minute ride from the airport. Hotel check in greeted us with a glass of champagne. There were a few problems to work out about our rooms, but were resolved to our satisfaction. FOOD: We did not eat at any of the speciality restaurants, but preferred the La Fuente restaurant, where buffet-style meals are served, including breakfast, lunch and dinner (each night has a specialty-themed night like Mexican, Italian, Seafood, etc.) If you prefer you can custom order something...the staff is all too eager to prepare you an awesome meal. In fact on New Years Eve, my husband wanted lobster. It wasn't on the buffet, so they prepared him two lobster tails! DELICIOUS! Also, my husband went on an early morning fishing trip and caught fish that CHEF ZAPATA prepared and turned it into a feast!!! Thanks, CHEF ZAPATA!!! The waitstaff is exceptional, including our server many times JUAN CARLOS RUIZ. Juan always accommodated our requests. There is also a nice smaller restaurant by the pool area. ROOMS: Very spacious and nice, I believe we were in Tower 1, where recption area is. All rooms have a view of the ocean. If you have any complaint about the room, staff is quick to respond. THINGS TO DO: A must is the Puerto Vallarta Zoo!!! So fun to get up close to the animals. Just wear comfortable shoes as some pathways are steep. Also be sure you hook up with Suzy Q on the beach. She arranged an awesome snorkeling trip and morning fishing for my husband. There is also a place called "Eden" where the movie "Predator" with Arnold Schwarzenegger was filmed. You can swing on a rope across a river and places to eat. Zoo is about a five minute drive from hotel...would not recommend walking to it. The "Eden" is not much further. The resort itself is clean. Several pools are available...from adult to small children. Around noon, the staff begin some "pool games" with guests. Music is not too loud before 12 p.m. but gets louder to about 3 p.m. then quiet. Our room was above the pool area (eighth floor) and we did not experience any disturbances at night. Would recommend securing pool chairs with towels early morning as the "good" spots by the beach go fast. There are people on the beach selling wares, but are respectful if you do not want to buy from them. Finally, my son got sick on our flight to Puerto Vallarta...he progressively got worse and had to fly home early. Initially we had difficulty in securing Tylenol from the hotel mini market and unfortunately had to ask other guests for the medication. The mini market ran out of Tylenol, so had to order it from a pharmacy outside the Barcello. There was a long delay before its arrival to the hotel, but eventually arrived. So always double think the medications you may need while packing your suitcase! The hotel manager, Rodolfo Pacheco, came to our hotel room and sincerely apologized for all the confusion. He offered to refund us our son's room charge for one night as compensation over the Tylenol fiasco. Thank you, Rodolfo!!! We also have to thank Ofelia Islas, who was especially helpful and gracious about our son's dilemma. Finally, a BIG thank you to Adelina Romero Mireles, She answered and resolved our questions about transportation and our son's illness in a very professional manner. In fact she helped us immensely BEFORE our visit to the Barcello, helping us secure our rooms and transportation from the airport. You can find her smiling face at the hotel concierge desk. In all, despite some problems during our visit, the Barcello staff ALWAYS was concerned and willing to resolve our issues. We will return to this lovely resort!

Lovely place if you’re willing to roll the dice on getting sick

We were absolutely blown away at first. It’s a clean, beautiful, well-mainted and well-staffed resort. Unfortunately our entire party became violently ill from something we ate or drank, landing me in the hospital, alone, on Christmas Day. That pretty much ruined the entire trip. If you can avoid getting sick, it’s a lovely facility in a gorgeous place.
