GREAT RESORT! Family friendly, food was very good. A lot of options at the buffets. Breakfast was good. But the omelette station can take a really long time if u happen to get behind people who want an egg white only omelette, the poor omelette chef has to crack a billion eggs 1 by 1 Ughhh! They could prob use 1 more omelette chef. Drinks were just ok. Stick to margaritas and beer and you will be happy. Pools are huge, not over crowded. Some parts of the beach were rocky but the Caribe beach was very nice, no rocks and very calm. A lot of fish off the dock, fun to swim with. We unfortunately only made it to 1 of of our 2 A la carte dinners. We ate at the hibachi grill in the Tokyo restaurant and it was very very good. Tempura was amazing and the main dish was tasty. The others in our party ate at the sante fe steak house and said it was very good as well. The kids had a blast at the kiddie pool and enjoyed the night time entertainment as well. Reserve your dinners as soon as you check in and if you plan on doing water sports you should reserve that right away too! Go to the water sports station near the dock, It gets booked fast. If you happen to need to buy goggles or beach toys, floaties etc.... make sure you buy them at the mexican plaza or even your main lobby. The gift shop at the dock charges double for the same cheap stuff. And my goggles broke with in 5 min!!!The staff members are nice for the most part. Everyone is helpful but some could afford to put in a little more effort in the friendliness department. The rooms in the tropical veracruz section are dated for sure. Most of the other buildings look like they have been remodeled. Our room was basic, but clean and and had a heck of an A.C. We joked and called our room the igloo! It was a nice relief from the heat and humidity. Beds were a bit hard but I still slept like a baby. The couch bed was nice and soft and more comfy than the actual beds. If you plan on using the double decker bus to get to the other hotels or the maya mall, just make sure u take the bus that is actually heading in that particular direction. 2 busses run at the same time. We weren't paying attention and got on the wrong one and it took take an eternity to get just 2 hotels over since we had to go to every stop heading in the wrong direction untill it turned around and headed to where we needed to go. We could have walked it faster! Over all it was a nice experience. I would definitely return.

"You get what you pay for" it was inexpensive...service was lacking some days by some people, other days were great...food was descent. Language barrier was sometimes a huge issue. Rooms were mostly clean but saw dirty corners and bugs. Loud theatre right outside made it difficult to rest early in the evening.

We just got back Monday from a 5 night stay with 2 young boys (6 & 3). We booked through Expedia & originally booked Barcelo Colonial but was redirected to the tropical lobby. It was annoying that they changed our reservation/room without notifying us but got over it quickly. Rooms were small but nice that the couch in corner was made up like a day bed. Beds were not comfy at all & there no washcloths or bath floor mat the 1st 2 days & one night we were left with 1 towel to share. It was nice to have slippers & bathrobes though. We had to wear bracelets that signified which hotel we were staying in & both boys wanted to pull them off constantly. Be prepared for a lot of walking! This place is huge. We got lost getting back to our room the first night 😂 The first night my husband went to make reservations for dinner for the week & was told sorry they're all booked. Really?! So I guess we'll eat the buffet all week. The lady "pulled some strings" & got us in at the seafood place & the hibachi. So definitely if you go make dinner reservations asap! However, the buffets were great & easy enough with kids. The beach was wonderful! Yes, very rocky in some areas. My husband snorkeled & saw some interesting fish, stingray, an eel & a sea turtle (to the far left of beach looking out to water). The fish along the pier are used to being fed bread & cereal & are everywhere! We snorkeled right there amongst them. My youngest boy loved all of the kiddie pools! Had a blast. They also loved putt putt golf & the bowling arcade. We had family pictures made on beach & our photographer was so great!!! I wish I could remember her name but she is awesome with kids! My husband & boys didn't even want to take pictures so I reduced our hour long session to 30 min but she kept their attention & kept them smiling for an hour going above & beyond. The session is free but pics are $20 each (digital) & turned out great & I ended spending double of what I had planned 😬 but a great service to take advantage of! We had the $1000 resort credit with booking but be careful because it is not actual credits. It's more like discounts on certain things & services. We misunderstood & were disappointed. There's a good mix of many nationalities there, which I like to see. There was a big group of loud, drunk Americans but also numerous rude Europeans that have no regard of how waiting your turn works (cutting at the bar, buffet, checking out) or saying please, thank you, excuse me, etc... I guess since I'm a Southern girl... manners, kindness & general respect for others ranks high on my list of how to live & interact with others. Overall, this a great family oriented place just a few hiccups here & there.

Good trip!

Barcelo was a good experience, but not the best. We are very happy we did the premium package because it does have perks... discounts on shopping, more a la carte choices, easier check in, no towel cards to name a few. If you are a foodie, you'll be disappointed... buffet choices are okay if you are staying 5 days, but we were there 9 and it got old. A la carte was better quality food, not a lot of choices though. The only a la carte restaurant that was disappointing was the Mediterranean one. Nothing had flavor. The rest of them were good. Bars are in many locations and they'll make anything but there wasn't any drink that was special. Typical drinks like pina coladas or daiquiris were so so. Pool was big, clean, and had options for kids and adults. It was very busy at the hotel but I never felt like it was crowded which was great. There was always a lounge chair open. Beach was beautiful... fish swimming by you and if you're lucky enough sea turtles too. That was a highlight!! Tips... be prepared for lots of walking... the resort is huge! Bring plenty of singles for tips for your staff. Bring a Yeti cup for drinks to stay cold. Bring water shoes if you plan to spend a lot of time in the ocean... there are rocky areas. Overall for the cost, the trip was good. It is not a fancy resort but it is nice. Clean, plenty to do, nice staff for the most part, nice size room, spa was amazing!!!

The resort was decent but he activities were not updated and we never found organized activities for my son. The water toys are booked all day, we were only able to use snorkel gear. I like the resort but it did not have the beach feel I was hoping for until you actually got to the beach.
