The resort overall is very pretty! However, if you plan on sleeping in, forget about it! You can hear every noise possible from people walking in the hallways, slamming doors, to people moving chairs above you and slamming sliding glass doors. The food was just ok for a 5 Apple rating. If you took the bus to the other hotel which we stayed at the Palace, the food selection was a bit more reasonable and was actually warm. The bars by the pool closed early as well so if you planned on a drink after 9 pm, you had to go inside the hotel to their indoor bar. The drinks were just OK, we stayed at other hotels that were rated less and had better tasting drinks! If you have small kids, the kids club doesn’t stay open late so that was a bummer for us at the Palace. The hotel hardly played any music outside by their pools and bars and that in itself was dissapointing! Also, if you planned on using the Internet, you only had two spots in the hotel to do so for free. If you were outside of those areas, you had to pay $9 per day! Internet nowadays is FREE in most places and it should be included in the hotel stay! Overall, we were not thrilled about the Palace and will be vacationing at another resort next year!

Disappointed overall
Oct 01 2017
We reserved a downstairs room with 2 beds. After waiting 4 hours to get into our room, it was upper level, one bed and next to the elevator. Was told no other rooms available - not as we checked in but after the bell hop took us to the room. After an hour and arguments with everyone up to the top of management at the Palace, we received a room as we had reserved. Ala carte Restaurants at the Palace were wonderful with great service. Other ala carte were average. Was disappointed in the buffets - breakfast selections were poor and few. Most days we didn't even bother with lunch. Second day there, someone entered our room with the key they had been given at their check in. They were nice and left quickly when they realized the room was occupied. Really expected free Wi-Fi at an exclusive resort but was charged to use it. We will not book at the Palace again unless the rates are really low. Overall a restful vacation but disappointed to say the least. Room kept clean - did have to ask a couple days to get the cokes and snacks restocked. Shuttles were good. We did not attend any of the shows. Beach was beautiful

checkin took over 1 hour, lines not controlled . Fee required for wi-fi and free wi-fi were only in certain times and locations. Not a fan of using hotel free computers.

The hotel was so clean. Very friendly & smiley staff. Yummy food. Very helpful staff at apple vacations. Any questions that we had we readily answered or someone was found to help us. We have already told family & friends about the wonderful vacation we had there with apple vacations. We are already planning another trip to the same place. Thank You for a dream-come-true trip.

Barcelo Maya Palace

Barcelo Maya Palace was excellent in terms of property and amenities, but check-in was absolutely horrible (it took over 2hrs of standing in line and in lobby without AC). Raised concerns to front desk employee and was not considerate to the wait time/process. We next raised concerns with on staff manager, Diego, who assisted in making sure that our vacationing families had rooms close to each other. Barcelo needs to check into efficiencies on how to make checkin better because quests should not have to be forced into wasting that much time into their first day of paid vacation.

I thought the hotel was excellent. It was very modern and beautiful. I thought the check -in process was too slow and the access to the internet was laborious.

Outstanding TRIP!

Barceló Maya Palace was a fantastic resort! Premium package was worth the extra attention you received at the resort! Facility, rooms, beach, pools & restaurants were extremely clean! Staff went out of their way to make the trip special. Apple representative was extremely helpful with recommendations for excursions and making sure our return flight was on time. This was our first time out of the country and our travel agent Jeannie @ Berger Travel in Mansfield Ohio prepared us every step of the way from passports, to travel expectations, how to handle customs, arriving at Cancun airport, tip advice, & Mexican culture advice. My family will definitely travel to Mexico again & Riveria Maya is so beautiful! I will highly recommend Apple vacations to anyone! Thank you for such a GREAT experience!

Great Birthday Vacay

Overall the stay went pretty well. The grounds were pristine! The beach on the palace side is very rocky but does getter better down past the pier. We did ride the jet ski's and when we were walking out to them we were not warned how rocky and slippery it was. I fell several times and was not helped by the staff when getting on or off from them. The pool bar and bartenders at the palace was fantastic! The daily pool Zumba was fun! We would of liked to hear more music at the pool. We did have a problem with our room, but it was quickly fixed. The restaurants at the palace were great, especially the Brazilian and French. The buffets were just average. We would have liked to see more authentic Mexican food.

Former President Barack Obama wades into the French president election before vote Veuer Apr 21st 2017 10:41AM Former President Barack Obama is dipping his toe back into the political world after calling one of the candidates of the French presidential election Thursday. Obama spoke with Emmanuel Macron, the leader of the French social liberal party En Marche. Here's part of what he had to say in the call: "Hello, Mr. President. How are you?..."The main message I have is to wish you all the best in the coming days." Obama's spokesman says the call was not an official endorsement of Macron. Very poor service from the reception desk. On 4/11/17 they requested credit card and promised not to charge anything if I pay in full. Imagine my surprise when i saw a pending transaction of $537.59 on my credit card. Also I had a problem with my key card. On 4/15/17 I could not get into my room. It took 1 hour for somebody too come and fix it.

The food in the sit-down restaurants was great, but the food in the buffets was never hot unless it was something fresh off the grill.

Enjoyed our stay, the food, overall, was great, the grounds were kept in great condition, room service was a little spotty from not stocking the room with correct linens to over stocking other linens to forgetting to restock the water, the check in and check out was painfully slow, there could have been more staff to handle the volume and the procedures to check in and out need to be streamlined. had one incident of possible food poisoning but it was not professionally diagnosed and it did clear up after 12 hours of vomiting. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Make sure your hotel will pick you up at the airport and confirm the name of the company picking you up. Our hotel driver said he didn't have our names on his list and suggested to take a cab confirming the reimbursement upon check-in. AT the check in we were sent to guest services and guest services refused to reimburse the expense.

Stayed at the Palace and was disappointed. Bring your walking shoes because the property is so big and the Palace is on the far end, away from a lot of the fun stuff going on at the resort. Rooms smelled like mold/mildew and were in poor repair. Everything felt damp and wet in the room; towels, sheets, paper, etc. Ceiling fan didn't help at all. Hot humid nights and it's only January. Can't imagine a summer vacation there. Getting room service was excessively lengthy and the quality of the food/drinks was extremely poor/cheap. The alcoholic drinks tasted dirty and the quality of the liquors was horrible. Food was mediocre at best. The all- inclusive nature of the resort means a lower quality of attention to detail and providing a less than memorable experience. Not the Mexican vacation experience I was hoping for, to say the least. The pools were very nice and clean. The staff, overall was nice and kind. Helpfulness of the staff is limited based on your grasp of Spanish and their ability to speak English. Rec. basic Spanish to communicate better with staff. Planned a second trip to the area in March but will not be staying at Barceló. People we met seemed happier with their rooms on the other end of the property (Colonial, Caribe area).

Not worth the extra price

This is our third trip to Barcelo, first time to the Palace Side. And it was an upcharge. The food was better, Without a doubt. The room smelled like mildew upon arrival and I figured this would go away in time... it did not. My clothes that I did not wear, came home smelling of mildew! I would not pay for this again.

During our stay at The Maya Palace we visited the Dive Shop where Martina was so happy to help with all our questions and we were able to go out on the banana boat. The guys were wonderful and ensured we had a great time. Two of the girls rode jet ski. If you have the opportunity to go there be sure to go to the Tropical Pool Bar. Ask for Marco Gomez. He is the best bartender and has a great personality. His manager is awesome also. Inside at the Tequila bar be sure you try the famous "Snake Bites". The resort was clean and comfortable. We can't wait to go back. The staff were happy to care of everything. There is a beautiful mall with a casino, disco and bar. There are many buffets with great food. There are staff who provide entertainment. The beaches were beautiful. I could go on forever. I encourage you to save $20 a week for year and go yourself. Did I mention it's all inclusive?
