Ideal for families, couples, and scuba divers, Barcelo Maya Beach & Caribe is located on what is commonly considered the finest stretch of pristine beach in Riviera Maya. Stroll through the abundant, Mayan inspired grounds or dive and snorkel in the glass-like ocean, exploring the second largest barrier reef on Earth. If you prefer fresh water, there are two expansive pools, each with its own Jacuzzi to ease away your cares. This lush resort complex is conveniently close to one of the most popular tourist attractions, the 3000 year-old ruins at Tulum, the only Mayan archeological site on the Caribbean coastline.

With accommodations decorated in the purest Caribbean style, these cheerful rooms are comfortable, open, and all have a balcony or terrace overlooking verdant gardens or the azure sea. Enjoy access to international dining in sixteen restaurants including four distinct buffets, Mexican and Spanish cuisine, four beach restaurants, plus access to fourteen bars strategically located throughout the complex. You'll never be hungry because the Barcelo All-Inclusive program offers 24-hour availability of snacks, meals, and drinks.

Families can enjoy maximum freedom, choosing from among a wide range of activities for the whole tribe, including a gym, shopping, and the luxurious U-Spa. Qualified staff members organize entertaining activities for the smallest members of the family in the mini-club. Children are guided through games, competitions, drawing, handicrafts, movies, a mini-disco, mini-aerobics, and the brand-new U-Kids Spa.

By day, adults can join in a variety of sports, including tennis (day or night on floodlit courts), basketball, snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing, and miniature golf. At night, enjoy the vibrant entertainment at the unique live shows and then dance the night away at Jaguar's nightclub. In addition, you are free to access facilities in the pools and beach area of the Barcelo Maya Colonial & Tropical, immediately adjoining your hotel.

With something for everyone, Barcelo Maya Beach & Caribe awaits your family for the vacation of a lifetime!

Barcelo Maya Beach: What you need to know.

The Barcelo Maya Beach is a very good all inclusive resort. The complex consists of several individual "resorts" which share facilities and one Deluxe "resort" which does not share. Service is excellent. When we arrived we are given prompt, cheerful, personal attention at the check in desk. Service everywhere is some of the most cheerful we have experienced. Starting with the beach, it is excellent. The water is shallow so you can wade out a good distance without breakers. There are plenty of lounge chairs. However, shade can be a problem. There are no verandas. I think the resort did not want to clutter the beach with verandas and instead relies upon palm trees for shade, which does not provide good protection from the sun. There are several pools of differing sizes as each separate resort has a pool, all of which are shared. There are kids pools and water parks. There are swim up bars. The grounds are very nice and well maintained. It is easy to walk around but there is a double decker airconditioned shuttle bus if you prefer a ride. The rooms are typical and in good shape. However, the one failing mark i give the resort is housekeeping. The room floors are not cleaned and dirty. They do provide slippers for use and I used them. The buffets are plentiful and varied. Again each resort has its own buffet but they are shared. A negative, none of the beach buffet restaurants is open for breakfast. You have to use the buffets by each lobby for breakfast instead of by the water. I was disappointed in the specialty restaurants, especially the steak and Rodizio. I always suggest avoiding the steak restaurant in Mexico. Mexican steaks do not compare to American thick, marbled, tender, aged steaks. The Rodizio was not typical. They served pasta or a steak and then offered the skewers of different meats if you still wanted them. That is not what I expected. The Rodizio at the Grand Bahia Principe resort, close by, is not just a great Rodizio, it is a great restaurant and after that the Barcelo Rodizio did not measure up. There are plenty of lobby inside and outside bars which are pleasant. There is a big indoor mall for shopping, a disco and a bowling alley for bowling or good American style hamburger and fries. In short there is plenty to do right at the resort. On our second day we woke up to our bathroom being flooded from above. All of our toiletries were soaked with grey water. We called the manager who moved us to a different room and offered to compensate for our toiletries but we had already tossed all that was ruined. We lost a half day with repacking, moving, and unpacking again and the manager did reserve dinner for us at the Rodizio, which has a additional cost unless you are staying at the Maya Palace Deluxe, but we thought after that mess an upgraded room would have been more appropriate. As far as entertainment, the theater shows were not well produced and I greatly missed mariachi bands. I didn't hear one mariachi the entire time. In short, nice sprawling complex, great beach with little beach shade, good service, dirty room floors, poor housekeeping, OK food, poor specialty restaurants, big indoor mall, OK disco, lots of pools. Many kids and families were there. They tend to tell you they are fully occupied as far as rooms and restaurants but that is simply not true. I give this resort 4 stars and would return. More>

What an amazing resort!!!

I reviewed extensively for picking a hotel resort for 4 adults and I can say that we hit the jackpot with the Barcelo resort in Mayan Riviera. The grounds are gorgeous, beach amazing, unlike most beaches here we are told, food is plentiful, fresh and delicious, service perfect and I could go on and on. Do not believe any bad reviews unless you are the pickiest of pickiest or just can't be pleased. We have been to numerous resorts in many places and this tops them all. I never go back to a resort as we like to try different ones but this will be a first to come back to. If you need any answers about anything just text. We have another 4 days in paradise so i might not respond until return. More>

Great place. Food is OK, rooms are OK. Beach is beautiful and you can always find a chair. Pools are great and the staff is so attentive. Rodrigo and Alejandra (alex) at the pool went above and beyond and I really enjoyed their activities and enthusiasm. Shows are fun. Free WiFi in the Maya mall from 10am-1pm. Overall, this hotel is nice and I would recommend it. More>

Great food and beach, but safety concern in main floor rooms

My husband and I spent a week here in April. Here is our breakdown of a few categories. Room: We stayed in the Tulum building, and had a normal un-renovated room. It was a basic room with very comfortable beds (pleasantly surprised with the beds). We were on the main floor, with a back door patio for which we have some security concerns about. One of the days, housekeeping opened the patio door and didn't close it before leaving. We were out all day and were very concerned upon returning to our room to find the door wide open for anyone to enter. We brought the issue to the front desk, but the man at the front didn't seem to understand us very well. Furthermore there were a few more days where we came back finding our patio door unlocked. Although the resort feels safe, this is a real safety and security concern for us. Another downside is the noise -- you can hear everything in your room due to the openness of the building and we were woken up by late night party goers multiple times throughout the week. Food: Buffets were fantastic, and the beach grills were good for a snack stop. Plenty of a la carte restaurants to choose from -- we tried Mexican, Italian and Japanese. All good except for the Japanese (unless you like all of your food soaked in soy sauce). We had reservations for the steak house, but cancelled having been more in the mood for buffet offerings. Service: Didn't find the front desk staff very welcoming upon arrival, and the service was hit or miss across the bars/restaurants/buffets. Particularly at the buffets, we would be offered more coffee or water but then the server would never bring it around. Beach: The beach was fantastic. Plenty of beach chairs, and the water was clear and shallow -- you could walk out forever. There was also areas where plenty of hermit crabs lived if you like some sea life entertainment. Gym: New, clean, everything you could ask for including zumba, yoga and spin classes. Entertainment: Nightly shows were okay. But I would have preferred mariachi bands or more music set up across restaurants and bars in the evening. Daytime entertainment was great -- took part in stretch class on the beach, dance class by the pool, and water aerobics. Mini putt is also free during the day, so that provided a nice afternoon break from the sun. The Jaguars nightclub was also a good place to dance and drink at night with good music. However their bar gets too busy and takes too long to get a drink -- so if your more interested in drinking, I would visit the lobby bars instead. Pools: Tons of pools, so lots of options to avoid noisy children (including an adult pool, which is really full of 40-somethings reliving their college days...). But the pools are great for kids with lots of little water parks throughout the pools -- so we might consider returning one day with kids just for all the kids activities. Wifi: It's unfortunate that its not included, although we tend to avoid being "connected" on vacation. However the Maya Mall has free wifi daily from 10am-1pm. We used it once, needing to confirm an excursion by email and had a hard time connecting due to the overwhelming amount of "cell-phone-zombies" walking circles for a better connection right at 10AM. Overall we had a nice relaxing time -- the grounds are meticulously kept, the resort is huge (even has its own double decker bus route!) and we enjoyed the walking. Keep in mind the resort is about 60-90 minute drive from the Cancun airport. The resorts best features are the beach, pools and the buffet --- as well as kids amenities. These things alone can make it worth the visit. More>
