everything was 1st rate. The staff was wonderful and one particular waiter Joel Vivanco - from the restaurant grill, really went out of his way to help and made me confortable. Hen was like a guardian angel and I wish you would mention this to the management of the hotel.

Noisy during Easter weeks
May 04 2011
Absolutely wonderful facility and wonderful people taking care of ("pampering") us. We ate well, drank quality booze, had wonderful service, loved our room, and had no complaints except for one irritant - the loud Public Address system. The announcements of water aerobic classes, Samba classes, kayaking, etc plus the loud music and instructions for classes, the calling of bingo games, etc. intruded on conversations and meals. My wife talked to several staff members and the tour representative and learned that it is during periods when they are busy, especially with Mexican guests, that this occurs. The week before and after Easter are especially busy and many Mexican families are there. We observed that, on the last day of our stay, there were only a few, brief announcements and the music was much more subdued. If you are going for a quiet vacation, do not go during very busy holiday times. We would definitely return but would pick different dates.

We went to this resort thru a Norwegian cruise excursion. The resort is really nice, pool area was great. We weren’t able to see the rooms but there did seemed to be a lot of people staying there. We had an exceptional waiter by the pool, Daniel Hernandez. He kept the tasty drinks flowing. The pool was warm, not sure if it was heated or just from the sun. He was also very helpful in directing us to the buffet for our lunch (both unlimited drinks and food were included with this excursion). If you go there search out Daniel! You won’t be disappointed.

Great Family Resort

My family and I had a great time staying at Barcelo Karmina. I have two kids who are 6 and 3 and they loved it! We stayed at the kids pool area most of the time and the Animation girls, Elizabeth and another girl were so great with the kids. They would come to the pool every day and play volleyball with them and other pool activities. The kids were never bored. At first we didn't really want to stay at the beach because it looked rocky but on the last day we stayed there for the whole day. It was only rocky one on side but the other side was great and you got to see fish swimming around. The buffet always had something different every day. My husband would try to get the same server at the buffet or by the pool and tip them generously and they took care of us the whole time! We loved the tacos at the snack bar and there was always fries for my picky 6 years old. Overall, the resort is perfect for a family with small kids.

Could have been better

Spent 1 week as a couple from Feb 22, 2018 all inclusive through Sunwing. First of all, the reservation was for junior suite with ocean view. When we arrived at the desk, we had to request another room as we didn't get that. Then about 2 days later, we had to move rooms as there was a leak in the floor above. Then another 2-3 days later there was a leak in our room coming from the room above. At this point my BF was pissed as hell, and adamant that we were not moving. Basically, the woman on duty that night wanted us to pack up again and move to another room so they could correct the problem, which was supposedly a toilet that overflowed. We had to speak to the night Manager who was sympathetic and agreed that we would stay in the room and hold off the repairs above. The outside of the hotel and the lobby is quite impressive. The views of the grounds and swimming pool are beautiful. However, i was very disappointed with the a la carte Mexican night. Actually, I was disappointed with the taste and flavor of the Mexican dishes, too bland. That was especially so, for one of the days at the buffet restaurant and the deserts all tasted so fake. Magically, closer to the weekend. I believe it was Sunday, it seemed there was a change in chefs. The buffet spread that day for lunch was super enjoyable. I chose to have breakfast at the Capri restaurant as I pretty much stuck with oatmeal and i really liked the banana milkshake. The Italian and Japanese a la carte meals were enjoyable. My BF was sick -- had a bad combo of something at the Capri restaurants and was throwing up, so he couldn't enjoy the Japanese meal. What's was up with the cold water in the whirlpool area and the pools? Didin't understand when the sun was comfortably warm, the water was too cool. Also, on the weekend, the locals visit the resort. Well, there were children and families in the adult pools. Security must be used to that, as they did nothing. The chairs were in hot demand that day. Lots of stairs from the main lobby to the ground. The Agave restaurant turns into club at nights with live band. They play games that go on for 1/2 hour. Too long. Also from 12midnight, mostly Latin music - Salsa, meringue etc. The 9pm entertainment was really good - very professional exceptional group of dancers, gymnasts. Very entertaining. So the problem with this hotel is that it is not all 5-star. Sometimes i felt the food taste and quality to be 3-4 star. Given the problems with the leaks on 2 occasions - maybe 3-star. For compensation of the trauma from the moves and leaks, the manager compensated us with a free visit to the spa. The massage was exceptional. I loved the steam room. The SPA was worth it and very calming. By the way, the Sunwing rep, Miguel - be prepared, memorized responses.

Resort is beautiful and very nicely kept. Our room was spacious and nice with a good view (we did get ocean view). Weather was great, but very hot, over 30 C every day and our air conditioner did not work very well. We complained twice and they fixed it twice but it did not improve (never got below 25C in our room). The pools are beautiful and well kept. The beach is quite small, but that was okay, we knew that ahead of time. Decent snorkeling in the bay off the beach, but a little cloudy water. They were doing construction the whole time to fix the bridge across the bay, so we woke up every morning to sound of metal and grinding and that is what you heard the whole time at the beach. Will be nice when they are done. Food was overall good, lots of variety and options. The restaurants were good, especially the Italian.

LOVED every minute of our awesome vacation.!!!!!!
