everything was 1st rate. The staff was wonderful and one particular waiter Joel Vivanco - from the restaurant grill, really went out of his way to help and made me confortable. Hen was like a guardian angel and I wish you would mention this to the management of the hotel.

Noisy during Easter weeks

Absolutely wonderful facility and wonderful people taking care of ("pampering") us. We ate well, drank quality booze, had wonderful service, loved our room, and had no complaints except for one irritant - the loud Public Address system. The announcements of water aerobic classes, Samba classes, kayaking, etc plus the loud music and instructions for classes, the calling of bingo games, etc. intruded on conversations and meals. My wife talked to several staff members and the tour representative and learned that it is during periods when they are busy, especially with Mexican guests, that this occurs. The week before and after Easter are especially busy and many Mexican families are there. We observed that, on the last day of our stay, there were only a few, brief announcements and the music was much more subdued. If you are going for a quiet vacation, do not go during very busy holiday times. We would definitely return but would pick different dates.

Wonderful family vacation!

We spent four days here with the kids and my in laws. The food was fantastic, the pool and beach were fabulous! The kayaking was great, we did the boat tour with snorkeling and it was so worth it! We had such a great time. The only downfall was the service. Everyone was nice but everything took way too long. Even when there were only two other occupied tables in the restaurant it took 15 minutes for someone to even come take our order. And there was staff all over, just not handling the tables. And when ordering drinks at the pool sometimes they’d be forgotten or sometimes take 45 minutes to arrive. Thankfully breakfast was buffet so didn’t take too long. All food was so delicious. Just had to wait longer than we should have.

I try and be as objective as possible because I rely on other's reviews. First the good. It is a very nice resort. The grounds are beautiful, the building is very nice, the rooms are big and clean. The staff are very very helpful and courteous. Despite what others have said, the staff have a very good command of English, some of them perfectly. The food was great. First time in 15 trips to Mexico resorts that I have said that. There are lots of pools, both adult and family. The evening shows are corny but fun and we did not miss one. The bad: Do not pay for Premium as you get nothing extra only a room facing the ocean. There are rooms facing the ocean that are not Premium. No bottle of Tequila, no bottle of wine, both were supposed to be waiting for you in our room upon arrival. There is no bottle of wine at your table at the Al la Carte despite the advertising saying there is for Premium. There are not enough chairs for the pools. They don't enforce the towel rule. The resort lacks good pool staff. I saw everything from several tissue papers in the main pool to leaves and sticks and lots of places where the tiles are coming off. When you get up in the morning, the pool should be clean.

New Years week... I feel silly now, but I didn't realize just how busy a time of year that is for a resort like this one... Manzanillo itself is gorgeous, the mountains and agriculture is very different from Cancun and we felt safe there for the most part. the airport is tiny, and very relaxed. We were told by our Sunning rep that this resort, this 5 star resort was the best one in Manzanillo, which is what the customs guy said as well. The Barcelo Karmina, we opted for the "premium level" which was to be a specialized service, room and experience. Sadly service in general was not great, and the whole “premium” level deal was a bit of joke as we had a private lounge for premium level checkin but it took us longer than anyone to get our rooms and then they didn’t have one with two beds even though when they sent my family and I to the room, they said “sure it’s two beds”when i tried to rectify it they said that they were at capacity that we had to make do with the room as it was but maybe in a few days another one might be available. Bed issue aside, It was a gorgeous view from the premium level rooms and the sunsets/rises are amazing. It just put me in a rough mood right at the outset, and then the internet situation (considering we were “premium”) was a real pain, 2 device connections for a family of 4 but then they never worked anyway so I complained and they solved it by giving me a code that meant unlimited connections and it always worked. All of the reservations for that first night were booked so you'd be wise to book before you come if you can actually get through. The pools are very nice and the kids LOVED the slide. We also were surprised at how fun their beach cove is. It had all of these rocks and coral so we snorkelled around there a lot and when the tide when down we went scavenging for sea life, it was really great. Restaurants, the food was decent, the Mexican restaurant is the best, and the view from it is breathtaking, the Japanese restaurant was really terrible but the Italian and grill and Buffet were all fine, I’d probably like them better if service wasn’t so spotty. On one occasion we all got our meals while my 10 year old daughter was waiting forever for a simple hotdog. "it's coming" were we told repeatedly. Again perhaps this was because it was such a busy time of year and normally they'd be on their game? The staff at the grill during lunch seemed particularly irrupted with how busy it was. The room for the kids club was in need of an upgrade (the space I mean) but the animators seems enthusiastic and nice. They do wrist bands there to distinguish your level and you have to see the concierge to get reservations for dinner. The Sunwing rep was there almost every day, Miguel and and he was helpful. Everyone there was mainly from Canada or Mexico (according to the rep) All in all, a nice resort in a cool picturesque setting with nice pools and relaxing vibe.

Just returned from a family vacation to Barcelo Karmina (Manzanillo). This resort has a lot of “pros” as well as a few “cons”. Overall, we had a very good vacation. First, the pros – the food, the service, and our room were all excellent. Loved the mini-fridge in our room stocked daily, and appreciated the high quality linens, huge bathroom and other luxuries. Overall, the food was very good and the hotel grounds are beautifully landscaped. We booked our vacation through Sunwing, and the flight, transfers, and the Sunwing rep were also excellent. Went on a fabulous full-day tour to Colima – booked though our Sunwing rep. And the weather - 7 days of hot sun and the only rain was a few drops that fell New Yrs Eve. It was very convenient to get into the small town from our hotel (to purchase snacks etc.) by taxi or via a short walk along the beach. However, it’s not a scenic town, just fyi. Loved the local Saturday market – this is the place to buy silver jewelry, textiles, etc. Now the cons – the “beach” is almost non-existent and the sand is not fine, but being in a man-made (?) cove is very quiet and safe/shallow for little children. When you leave the resort and walk the beach, you can see that the strong undertow would make swimming dangerous. The pools were funny – none deeper than 5 feet. And no swim-up bar. But my kids liked the waterslide. And the nightly entertainment – hmm, what to say… overall it was not very good. We appreciated that the staff did not harass you all day to join in daily activities - however, if you wanted to join in, it was rather mysterious how you would so do, and where to go. I never saw any daily activities taking place – although there was a chart posted showing daily activities. Also, there is a room with pool tables etc. and a small theatre to keep teens occupied. Overall, we had a very good vacation – the resort is beautiful and offers a very high level of service.

Checking into the hotel at the airport before getting on the bus to the resort was a breeze this was a lot better than standing in a lobby waiting in line to checkin. This made the transition at the resort to the room a very quick so we could get right into vacation mode, Shorts and sandals. The room was very spacious for a family of 4 and provided lots of room for everybody. The hotel put on a great feast for Christmas eve which had more food and selection than we could eat. The evening entertainment group did a fantastic job throughout our stay and even had my Daughter, who is big into dance, practicing with them during a couple of the days on stage. A big shout out to Rodolfo, Mauricio and Eli on the animation team to keep me and my son entertained for Archery, rifle shoot, beach volleyball and beach soccer. This was one of the many highlights of the trip. With the resort on the peninsula between Santiago bay and Manzanillo bay this made for some beautiful horizon shots for sunrise and for the sunset. All in all this is a wonderful resort that offered lots to keep us entertained for the 7 days that we had stayed with them. It was also very nice of the resort to allow us to keep our wrist bands on the final day after checkout so we could enjoy the resort while waiting for the transfer back to the airport.
