Beautiful location, Food OK

We booked this all inclusive through Sunwing. But this will focus on the resort itself. The grounds: quite nice and well kept (previous posters mentioned a decline in appearance, yes there was some upkeep to be done but they were in constant maintenance - but not noisy). The location of this resort is beautiful!! The design of the resort was very well thought out. It didn't seem very busy when we were there which was great. We had no trouble finding loungers by the pool or the beach. The group is a more mature group which worked just fine for us! No crazy drunken rowdy people all during the night. The food: it was okay. The buffet was smaller then we've been used to but this is also the smallest resort we've been too. The selection wasn't large but we managed to stuff ourselves regardless. We were disappointed in the fruit as we were expecting better tasting, especially the pineapple. We ate at all 3 a la cartes. A few notes, the Italian restaurant was not open every day (disappointing as we wanted to go back!). They prebook your reservations (3) when you check in (which was nice!) but you can get more if you go to the concierge desk after 4pm to see if there's any openings. The downside to the prebooking is we noticed the a la carts were always half empty! The Japanese restaurant was very good. Mexican was hit and miss but very well prepared food. The Italian again hit and miss. My dishes weren't fantastic but my partners were amazing! Avoid the tiramisu for dessert. Night life- Not great. The shows are good to kill time. The dancers look like they're working hard but the shows are lacklustre and mostly in Spanish. Between 10 and 11 there is only one bar open and not a lot of seating outside to gather. We made it to the disco one night and it was okay. They had a live band which was quite good. The resort is definitely geared towards locals and they are the majority of the guests. We did run into a few instances of a language barrier but our fault for not learning the local language! We walked off resort a few times and felt safe. We hit up the Walmart and the liquor store as there's no duty free at the airport. If you're missing home, there's also a Starbucks, Carl's Jr, Diary Queen, KFC and Pizza Hut. The beach: rocky but the snorkelling was awesome! Walking out about 1.5ft deep the fish swarm you! We got upgraded to a room on the 4th floor with garden view but you could still see the ocean. Very nice! Overall this resort was very nice. The food and entertainment could be better but the location was beautiful!

We stayed at the Barcelò Karmina from January 13th to the 20th. My parents had previously stayed there and highly recommended it. We will forever be grateful that they did. The property is absolutely STUNNING, and it is kept in pristine condition. Our room was so spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. Kudos to the housekeeping staff who meticulously kept our living space so lovely. We LOVED the food at the buffet restaurant. The only problem we experienced was overeating at each meal ;) Our dining experience at the Mexican à la carte restaurant (Agave) was one of the many highlights of our trip. If you go, DO NOT MISS this incredible experience! We also really enjoyed the beach bar every day, which was consistently overflowing with delicious treats. The pool area was our favourite of any resort we have visited. Again, it is so beautifully maintained and designed. The beach at Karmina is very small, which might be a deterrent for those who love an expansive stretch of sand and surf. We really loved it, however, as the water was warm and perfect for snorkelling. We really enjoyed the nightly entertainment, and the performers were so charismatic and engaging. The dancers were superb, and the male singer featured on most nights was SUPERB - what a talent! Our 16-year-old son loved playing beach soccer and volleyball each day, and we all enjoyed kayaking around the bay. Our very favourite thing about the Barcelò Karmina was the staff. Every single employee was friendly, hardworking, kind, generous, patient, and professional. I think we fell in love with every single one of them. They worked tirelessly and genuinely appeared to love and value their jobs. We will forever treasure them for making our holiday so perfect. Thank you, Barcelò Karmina! WE LOVE YOU AND CANNOT WAIT TO RETURN!!! P.S. There is no free wifi, which seemed to upset some people. I work exclusively online and was beyond grateful to disconnect for a week, so it didn't bother me.

Great family vacation and lots of fun at the pool and beach!

We stayed at Barcelo hotels in Mexico before but it was our first trip to Manzanillo. I read a number of reviews about this hotel and in spite of a minority of fairly negative ones, we decided to book Karmina anyway - it was a good decision. I won't repeat the great things about the hotel, the pools and gardens, as they really are very nice but already described in depth by others and nothing has changed. I really liked the way we were checked in right at the airport’s parking lot in front of the bus – they gave us our packages with room keys and all the a la carte restaurants right there – we had to change one of them, but this was great as soon as we arrived we could head up to our rooms and just wait for the bell boy to bring up the luggage. I also read some bad reviews about the rooms, but I have no idea as to whether or not we simply lucked out or people have too high an expectation and would never be pleased. We booked a regular junior suite with two double beds. A crib for our little guy was brought the first day and it fit perfectly between one of the beds and the wall – he didn’t mind it either. Beds and mattresses were fine, although not as firm as ours at home; not a big deal. We had a view of the golf course and the entrance of the hotel. Our friend who stayed in a different junior suite with his daughter and they had the view of the inner garden with the pools – a little different room all together but also just as nice. They both were big, with big bathrooms and separate amenities and a separated sitting and sleeping areas. Everything was clean and maybe not brand new but we had no issues with anything not working. There was an occasional foul odor coming out of the sinks (there were two of them). The maid service was great. Our room was cleaned and every time we asked for some extra bottled water for the kid to mix his formula and they left it for us everyday. As to why we had a great time, it was largely because of the activities crew who is run by Cristian Diaz. He and his team made every day at the pool and on the beach fun. We enjoyed many a laughs with Cristian and Sandra, Carolina, and Elena to name a few. Cristian also hosted night events but then wearing a suite and he was extremely accommodating. He went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable – when he heard we were actually celebrating our third year anniversary he arranged another Mexican restaurant booking for us and had a bottle of champagne delivered to our room – a very nice touch. We didn’t even want to make a big deal of our anniversary but he made it memorable. Any time we wanted anything he was there and would see to it if he could. He and his crews should be commended for their hard work – I can’t imagine it can be easy to work the whole day and make everyone happy. The other staff was also extremely helpful and accommodating – they were really nice about our little guy making a mess everywhere he ate and would even boil eggs for him in case there were not serving them a given day. Nobody ever expected a tip or made us feel like we were making them do something; simply nice and professional. We also had really good servers at the pool – two of them whose last names were Palacios, but the older of them was our favored. Also the trainee Antonio at the pool bar was really good and I enjoyed talking to him while he was preparing our drinks. The only tips we would have is to have the lobby bar open a little longer at night and have on some music. And also have the elevator music earlier in the morning by the pools to be changed to something more upbeat, but the second suggestion is less important. We are going to take another vacation in a couple of months and because of the great time we had we are now seriously considering going back to Barcelo Karmina and hopefully we will again see the friendly faces we already miss the second day back in the snow.

The best hotel in Manzanillo. The rooms were clean with maid service early in the day. Waiters were professional and very friendly. Special thanks to Maria Valencia who greeted us pleasantly every morning at the Capri. Doing the guest registration at the airport was a wonderful innovation since our last visit. I would suggest reviewing the food service to see if improvement could be made to keep the food hot when it is in the buffet as we found it to be cooler than we like.

Great location and property, great vacation.

Just returned from a week away on a Sunwing vacation. Since this is regarding the property and our overall vacation, the review for this hotel is great. I just wish we knew ahead of time as I should have booked a second week. If you are up for a good relaxing place with good food, drink, service and great staff as a whole this is a good choice. As for restaurants, buffet has lots of variety. the Japanese and Mexican we liked, while we tried the Italian and cancelled our second reservation. Not terrible, just nothing exciting that night. Pools were nice and refreshing, property clean overall and if I was told I had to go back tomorrow, I'd be there without a second thought. +29 everyday with a low of +23 (Celsius ). So coming from Canada this was a perfect temp all week long with Blue skies and nice breeze all week. Snorkeling in the little bay was said to be one of the best spots around, the only thing I'd recommend is put water shoes on as when swimming in the little beach area, when you put your feet down, you felt things snapping or biting you, once we went snorkeling I realized the abundance of fish and creatures hanging out under the sea;)... If you needed to walk along the longer beach you would get out through the locked gates and walk one way for miles, and you can even stop at the Wal-Mart which we used as our Duty Free and wine stop a few times. Awesome vacation, restful place and can't wait to return one day soon. One note was BarcelĂł states up to 500 US credit if you stayed over 3 days, all this did was discounts on certain things, many you asked and they stated were not included but 1st world problems. Enjoy
