Ixtapa was great but small. Zihuantenajo was even better. Our 1st room was horrible. The shower leaked into room because the shower head was broken. Sink faucet sprayed all over. Various pieces of marble were missing, loose, or broken. Asked to change rooms. 2nd room was much better. Still nice view but not facing ocean. Based on 10+ all in resorts we stayed at in Mexico, food was good. Employees were great. Friendly, attentive, and as expected, tipping brought us a little more attention. The advertised adult only pool was not enforced. Definitely a family resort with a lot of kids. Beach access was great. Resort was clean. Short cab ride to Zihuatenejo, highly recommended.

THe food service was very ad in the buffett, if you enjoy eating lunch meat and a few fruit choices you are i luck. The food warmers did nt heat food our meals were always cold and there was not much to choice from, the pasta was always just a little warm if there was chicken it was just the thighs with legs, The snack bar food was always warm and good, also the breakfast becasue you could order eggs the way you wanted and knew they were hot, the bacon, sausae and other stuff was always maybe luck warm

I enjoyed the Barcelo during our vacation. The staff was excellent in all areas of the hotel, restaurants, bars, front desk, Premium Lounge, Bellman and maid service. Honestly, the hotel is a little tired and needs some refreshing. Access to town (ixtapa) was great and we felt very safe walking at anytime. I also enjoyed the size of the resort because it was small enough to meet other at the resort. Overall, I would stay at the Barelo again but make sure the price is reasonable and commensurate with the quality.

I was amazed at how poor the food quality and selection was. It was marginally ok. We ate out a lot because of the poor quality. The buffet did not offer much for variety from day to day. The restaurant menu was very small with few selections. The hotel and ground was very clean and staff members were amazing. The room needed a few small things like more complete replenishing of things in the room like wash clothes and lotions, etc. There were some small maintenance things that should have been fixed long before we got there. So there were some good things and some bad things about the hotel. The food issue was a real deal breaker for me. I won't likely return simply because of that.

We love the Barcelo in Ixtapa. The hotel is safe, clean and the staff is always kind and attentive. Food is very good for an all inclusive, better than others I have tried. Sushi Bar Kyoto was very good as well. Pools are clean and well maintained. Ocean is incredible and clean with soft sand, great for long walks. We will return for sure. I highly recommend this location for its weather, warm ocean and hotel layout.

Just a couple things that we didn't like about our stay. The beds in our room were literally like sleeping on the floor. They were hard as a rock. When you are staying somewhere for 7 nights you really want a comfy bed after a long day at the pool/beach, etc... I guess we could've upgraded for $350 more to get a better bed but you would think all the rooms should have somewhat comfortable beds. Also we didn't like that there wasn't a bar that you could just go to at night. If you sat outside you had to wait for a waiter to come by and take your order but there were so many people that it took awhile to get the drink. The waiters were awesome but if there was a designated bar I think it would've helped. Also it's fun to hang out at the bar at night after dinner. Other than those two things the resort was awesome. The workers were all very friendly.

Great visit

This was our second time at this resort. Our last trip there was probably about eight years ago. We found the room very clean and much to our liking. The staff was great!!! They were very accommodating and always ready to serve us. If I had to point out one negative item, it would have to be the "Towel People". Even though the rules were posted concerning reserving places by the pools by placing a towel over a lounge, there was plenty of this going on. But, this was a practice by the guests and not by the resort staff. We have seen wider selections of food at the breakfast buffet, but his was ample. I would recommend that the staff ensure that the food was maintained at a hotter temperature. Often, the food was at room temp. Overall, I would rate it a great trip and a great visit!!!!

Great vacation !

We spent 9 days at BarcelĂł. Overall - it was a really good vacation. First- the good : staff is awesome. Friendly, helpful and welcoming. Can't say enough - they are great and made the vacation experience very good for us. On the not so good side - big crowds over weekends. We came in on Thursday of the week that was a local spring break. That was a mistake - crowed and loud with music into the middle of the night and into early morning. As the spring break crowd left for home the following weekend, the resort got a much calmer and quiet with families with small children and more senior guests. As I mentioned before - the staff was wonderful all along - everywhere, made us feel welcome and made a huge difference in the overall experience. They made the vacation experience great. One other thing that could have been better - there is a number of bars that serve

Perfect!

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and we had a wonderful week. The room was large and very clean, we liked that the resort’s size, big enough not to feel cramped but not massive where your room is miles away. Our bed was very firm and we could hear our neighbours through the shared door. The food and drinks overall were delicious and the people working there were so friendly and helpful. We really liked the BBQ night and the seafood restaurant. Lots of fresh fruit at breakfast. We wouldn’t recommend the sushi restaurant, it was the only meal we didn’t enjoy. Great location on a beautiful beach.

Alternative "senior spring break" awesome.

Excellent 1 week stay in the family suites at B.I. for alternative "senior spring break" with my daughter, her friend and her mother. The resort was clean, mostly Mexican families (lovely), great food, safe environment and beautiful beach. We were looking for a place that was going to offer sun/fun/food/ activities without a senior party atmosphere...mission accomplished! Enough to do on site, i.e. Zumba, yoga, beach volleyball, water aerobics, night movies, and a small venue for family shows (geared more for young families). Or venture off site a short taxi ride south to Zihuatanejo for some shopping, beaching and a margarita seaside. Go north for surfing with a local Catcha L'ola Surf School (can rent boards and/or pay for instruction), this was the highlight of the trip for our girls (book a day ahead of time as you departure at 7:45a.m.). Ixtapa Island is a short taxi ride north to the water taxi site. If you are looking for quiet, this is not for you. A nice beach (snorkeling on one side/swimming on the other) but lots of people. We did have a great meal oceanside of fish/ guac/chips and a couple beers. B.I. employees are helpful and courteous, taxis within minutes of a button push. We opted for the "premium" status for wifi, (it is spotty in the room), the small reception area at the front of the lobby for "premium" was nice to grab extra water bottles, mid-day snacks or late-night nibbles. Free room service with "premium" was an indulgence for our girls, arrival of all orders was prompt. There are beach vendors who do not come into the pool area but will address you if you are sitting close to the beach on the edge of the defined pool area. They are easily dismissed if you desire, or engaged for purchase. If you don't like this, sit closer to the pool. The hotel staff is very good about "patrolling" the periphery so there is never an issue. Shout out to the host/waiter, "Capitan Alejandro Torres" at the small restaurant close to the family suites who photo-bombed our selfie and was on top of our every need in the restaurant. A+ for humor, efficiency and work ethic, thanks for everything! I would be remiss to not mention the need to make reservations before 5:00p.m. the day you plan to dine on site. The Japanese restaurant upstairs (awesome shrimp and dessert tapioca) with perfect portions. La Fontana (Italiana), has indoor/outdoor seating...opt for a meal at sunset and sit outside. You will have no regrets. Otherwise just eat at the buffet, many options of local fare. One last note on the on-site spa, I had a massage with Gabriella 60 min/ with premium discount and it was wonderful around 60 USD. There are also options for massages on the beach in "huts", I opted for something less dubious. However, I did speak with some folks who opted for the beach massage who said or 11 USD it was not bad. It was nice to be in the minority, honestly less than 5% of the visitors were non-native. We enjoyed ourselves and the morning walks on the beach, playing in the waves (very big), the beach strolling musicians, people watching... As 2 women and 2 teenage girls traveling together, we never once felt unsafe. Be smart, don't travel into the mountains, talk to the locals as they are your best resource. Thank B.I. for making memories!

We had a fantastic time. The property is beautifully located just steps from the beach. The pools are wonderful. While the rooms showed some wear due to the age of the property, they were clean and comfortable. The staff was always friendly and helpful. We made EXCELLENT use of the ice cream machine! We would definitely go back.
