Apple Representative was not at out hotel when we were told he would be, took several days and a different rep track him down. Out hotel never offered us an upgrade on food and drinks, other people told us about it. WiFi should be free, spa should be cheaper.

Worst stay at this hotel ever.

My husband and I had stayed at this hotel many times before. This year was the worst. The day we got there the air conditioning in our room was not working. It took them 5 hours to fix it. In the meantime couldn't use the bathroom in the room or even relax. Went down to the front desk after 3 hours to inquire as to how long it would take to finish fixing it. They said possibly another 3 hours. With the language barrier you couldn't communicate with the maintenance man or anyone else. They finally got it fixed after 5 hours. Two days later it was dripping water on the bathroom toilet to where you couldn't use the toilet. They came and fixed that. They never offered us anything our whole stay for our inconvenience. It was the stay we had ever had this hotel. They need to admit the hotel is old and it needs upgrades.

We had to request a new room because of the strong lacquer odor in our room. After some discussion time with the desk and with the assistance of one of the bellman, we were moved to a new room. The buffet foods were not always warm/hot as necessary. The front desk staff was helpful EXCEPT for the young men who did not seem to know much about guest service. Scheduling of hotel maintenance was untimely - 2 of the 4 elevators were being repaired and unusable to guests and the use of lacquer in the rooms around guests' rooms.

Ixtapa was great but small. Zihuantenajo was even better. Our 1st room was horrible. The shower leaked into room because the shower head was broken. Sink faucet sprayed all over. Various pieces of marble were missing, loose, or broken. Asked to change rooms. 2nd room was much better. Still nice view but not facing ocean. Based on 10+ all in resorts we stayed at in Mexico, food was good. Employees were great. Friendly, attentive, and as expected, tipping brought us a little more attention. The advertised adult only pool was not enforced. Definitely a family resort with a lot of kids. Beach access was great. Resort was clean. Short cab ride to Zihuatenejo, highly recommended.

THe food service was very ad in the buffett, if you enjoy eating lunch meat and a few fruit choices you are i luck. The food warmers did nt heat food our meals were always cold and there was not much to choice from, the pasta was always just a little warm if there was chicken it was just the thighs with legs, The snack bar food was always warm and good, also the breakfast becasue you could order eggs the way you wanted and knew they were hot, the bacon, sausae and other stuff was always maybe luck warm

I enjoyed the Barcelo during our vacation. The staff was excellent in all areas of the hotel, restaurants, bars, front desk, Premium Lounge, Bellman and maid service. Honestly, the hotel is a little tired and needs some refreshing. Access to town (ixtapa) was great and we felt very safe walking at anytime. I also enjoyed the size of the resort because it was small enough to meet other at the resort. Overall, I would stay at the Barelo again but make sure the price is reasonable and commensurate with the quality.

I was amazed at how poor the food quality and selection was. It was marginally ok. We ate out a lot because of the poor quality. The buffet did not offer much for variety from day to day. The restaurant menu was very small with few selections. The hotel and ground was very clean and staff members were amazing. The room needed a few small things like more complete replenishing of things in the room like wash clothes and lotions, etc. There were some small maintenance things that should have been fixed long before we got there. So there were some good things and some bad things about the hotel. The food issue was a real deal breaker for me. I won't likely return simply because of that.

We love the Barcelo in Ixtapa. The hotel is safe, clean and the staff is always kind and attentive. Food is very good for an all inclusive, better than others I have tried. Sushi Bar Kyoto was very good as well. Pools are clean and well maintained. Ocean is incredible and clean with soft sand, great for long walks. We will return for sure. I highly recommend this location for its weather, warm ocean and hotel layout.

Just a couple things that we didn't like about our stay. The beds in our room were literally like sleeping on the floor. They were hard as a rock. When you are staying somewhere for 7 nights you really want a comfy bed after a long day at the pool/beach, etc... I guess we could've upgraded for $350 more to get a better bed but you would think all the rooms should have somewhat comfortable beds. Also we didn't like that there wasn't a bar that you could just go to at night. If you sat outside you had to wait for a waiter to come by and take your order but there were so many people that it took awhile to get the drink. The waiters were awesome but if there was a designated bar I think it would've helped. Also it's fun to hang out at the bar at night after dinner. Other than those two things the resort was awesome. The workers were all very friendly.

We loved our week at the Barcelo, Ixtapa. Second time in Ixtapa, our first time last year was at another hotel. Very good situation; wawes are smaller at this end of the beach so more safer. The beach is incredible, no rocks or shellfishs or seaweeds, so great! More pools for everyone.

Highly disappointed with service/noise of hotel Barcelo

Went to Ixtapa on the advice of our travel agent for a spring break couples getaway. Ixtapa itself is very clean and the beach area where the hotel strip is located was beautiful. It’s about a 5 mile round trip walk. Getting in the ocean is actually fun because the waves grow quite high and the water is clear. The disappointing part was the hotel Barcelo - first their ability to cater to and communicate with English speaking guests. They never once was able to get our room service orders correct. When speaking to the front desk staff, they either didn’t answer our questions correctly or ignored us. Secondly, they had 3 nice restaurants in which we had to make reservations for ahead of time. Mysteriously, we were only able to obtain reservations for one of them. They tend to shuffle you to the Buffett or an outside Mexican (very casual) restaurant. Even though we had an all inclusive package we wound up eating 2 nights at restaurants across the street. Finally, on our last 2 nights (Friday & Saturday) the hotel had booked weddings. Needless to say, as we wanted to enjoy quiet evenings on our deck or the sound of ocean waves crashing into the shore as we lay in bed - you guessed it! We were listening to extremely loud, obnoxious polka sounding music late into the night. Called the front desk to complain but they didn’t seem to care. Even though it is a clean and very beautiful area, I would advise trying a different hotel on the strip!

Sunset and Beach you're absolutely amazing and this is wonderful as well. The staff here treat you like Kings and Queens and are willing to help you with anything that you need. We had a room on the 10th floor overlooking the ocean and every night we were blessed to see the beautiful sunset. Staff hear ensure that the room is cleaned daily and checked on every evening offering extra towels and extra water if needed. The al a carte dinners we're very nice. My favorite was the Italian one. There is a seafood and Japanese one as well. The staff ensures that the buffet is well maintained and fresh. A special thanks to Hugo and Liz for ensuring our was memorable and most enjoyable. Jorge at the front desk was always there to answer any questions we had. Roberto, Javier and Christian at the swim up bar were exceptional....always greeting us by our names and knowing exactly what we wanted. Muchas gracias por hacer que las vacaciones sean tan increíbles ... no podemos esperar a traer de vuelta a nuestros hijos para compartir esta maravillosa experiencia con ellos. Gracias de nuevo

This was our families 1st all inclusive mexico trip. Never heard of Ixtapa before but glad we choose this smaller area for the first time. Hotel was 20mins ride from airport. Located on a stretch of beach front along with condos and other hotels. On arrival- check-in was easy. We upgraded to a presidential suite on the top floor for 'premium' level and wifi. The suite was large and had ocean front view with large balcony. We asked for 2 twin size cots for the kids age 12 and 13. The suite had a large jacuzzi tub. We tried to use it one night-filled it all up but when we went to push the jet button a whole bunch of black stuff came out. Figured it hadn't been used in awhile...but it made the bathroom really stinky! Hotel was very clean, always saw cleaning staff cleaning at all hours. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. We always tipped for our service. Booked all al la carte's at once with premium level. Buffet at breakfast was good, lots of variety. snack bar by the pool was good for lunch. Kids loved the ice cream machine. However, we did end up get getting traveller's tummy ache. Apparently few others got hit around the same time too. I wished we were given a list of daily activities-seemed to have missed a few in the first 2 days as didn't know the schedule. I did enjoy Zumba @11 am -Daniel the instructor was very funny and energetic. Kids enjoyed beach volleyball -though hit and miss as didn't know what time it started. Pool was lovely -lots of lounge chairs. Waves at the beach we fun to jump in. Friday/Sat were very busy as filled up with locals? and weddings. it was very noisy on one particular wedding night. We booked 2 excursions with Phili -the sunwing rep at the lobby. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. My husband booked a fishing tour from the beach. Came back with a huge Marlin! The hotel staff kept it frozen for us to bring back to canada and also cooked us a dinner for extra $20 US. FYI we had originally bought styrofoam cooler to contain the fish BUT once we got to the airport we were told only hard plastic Coolers allowed! Thank -you to the aircanada vacations rep who went with my husband in a taxi to get one. All-in all we had a great time! Thank you Barcelo! I wished i had remember all of your names but cannot-sorry!\ From Lai and Nancy
