one complaint about this resort was the pool and beach chairs. There was not enough at either the pool of the beach. I had to get down to the pool before 6:00 am to get a chair. This hotel as been around a while. The lobby and grounds are in good condition and well maintained. Our room was dated, especially the bathroom. This hotel as been around a while. The lobby and grounds are in good condition and well maintained. Our room was dated, especially the bathroom. If there was an issue with the room it was taken care of. The food was excellent . Their was always different food at the dinner buffet. The wait staff was cordial but inconsistent in their service. Overall we had a good stay. Barcelo needs to "buck up" and do some room remodeling.

Our hotel, Becelo - Huatulco, was amazing!! Wow!!!!!!!!! We loved our trip!! We all thought this place was the best place we have ever been to in Mexico!!! Amazing!! The beaches, town, ocean, people, food, drinks, sand, fish, rock climbing, shells, restaurants, tropical grounds, pool, shopping, whales, swim-up bar, kayaking, mimosa’s and snorkeling… We loved the beautiful view from our rooms, while we all sat on the deck in our bath robes and slippers drinking a beer from our fridge before getting cleaned up for the evening, thinking we were truly the luckiest people in the world!! Many thanks to YOU, Barcelo and Apple!!!!!

From day to day we never knew if we would have towels or wash cloths, some days we had a bath floor math and sometimes we had two. Two days before we left, we got some flower petals on our bed. The last time there everytime they made the beds we had pretty flower arrangements. There was a hostess at the Tortuga restaurant, who basically just stood there. We asked her for some guacamole and she looked at us like we had three heads. Sophia a waitress was absolutely wonderful. I have problems with my knees and feet, she would take my plate and put it at the table so I didn't have to worry about dropping it. She was jolly on the spot helping.

The resort is a good option for family's but I wouldn't recommend it for single's. The bathroom was in need of a update and the lighting in the room isn't friendly to both guest in the room. Air Conditioning was turned down all the way but still could have been alittle cooler in the room. General .. More>

Air Conditioning was turned down all the way but still could have been alittle cooler in the room. General maintence is needed on the stucko on the building but the grounds were kept very nice.

On our arrival at Huatulco, The Apple Transport operator was waiting and waited an unusually long time due to problems entering and chking of luggage etc. The operator was Ricardo and asked us if we were warm and would like something cold and liked beer. On our arrival at Huatulco, The Apple Transport operator was waiting and waited an unusually long time due to problems entering and chking of luggage etc. The operator was Ricardo and asked us if we were warm and would like something cold and liked beer. He then proceeded to stop at a convenience store and get us 2 cold beers..(A GREAT WELCOME, I thot) The hotel was situated in an idyllic setting overlooking Tongalund Bay and the staff was so friendly that they felt like family after a couple of days...We took and Apple Tour to the waterfalls and that was interesting and memorable...The driver was a great guide and very very sweet....Our whole experience was perfect in every way.....I would go back in a second

What a fabulous location to travel to in Mexico! It was very safe, and a 40minute walk into Santa Cruz or a 40Peso Taxi Ride. -We were probably a 3 minute walk from our room to the ocean. The first couple days the water was too rough to swim in but it calmed down enough to snorkel right on the resort, saw lots of fish, manta rays and jellyfish. The beach was lovely, you could go walk down past a few other resorts each direction. Sunchairs were under palapas and a sunshade. The waiter running around getting everybody drinks on the beach did very well, at times they could have had two beach boys. The pools and surrounding area was always very clean, the swim up bar was awesome here (in the adults only pool which was a nice feature). The day entertainment was sufficicent, including beach and water volleyball, bingo, zumba, kayak tours.... Downside to it being a public beach there was a lot of vendors on the beach. - The night life at the Barcelo was what you made it. There was a large group of people we met partying everynight at the disco, some nights we would just go into the town though. There could have been more bartenders in the early evening as you had to wait to get a drink with only one bar being open. The theatre shows were well done and the entertainers tried hard to get the audience to join in. There was a bar right in the closed theatre. - The resort you could tell was older and much more traditional mexican, it was not americanized but everything was very clean and well kept. Our room was on the 5th floor and overlooked the ocean which was amazing. Even in the lobby, there is no free WIFI at the Barcelo (unless you're premium) - As far as food goes, we were impressed. The buffets always had a good selection and we tended to eat the fresh made in front of you foods every meal. The A La Cartes restuarants: spanish was our favorite, mexican was good (spicy!), steak & seafood was also good, sushi was disappointing... everything had lots of cream cheese in it. You had to upgrade to premium to get room service for free. - Jamie & Oliver & Alfredo did a fabulous job with the barcelo life team! MUCH THANKS TO THE BARCELO STAFF FOR AN AMAZING VACATION... we will be going back next year. Travelled Apr 30-May 7 with friends.

i went to their many brunches in the evening, different menu at night, i called before, some day is mexicain, some day is japanese, italian or mexicain. there is also a bar at the entrance of the hotel played by a band, lots of atmosphere, people can dance on the floor at night only. i feel good mingle with everyone, the service is very good.

Husband and I stayed here April 16-23. Pro's - Easy check in. - Upgraded to Premium Service(not room) Great housekeeping Well kept grounds Friendly staff- especially Jose in the Premium club lounge! Love that this place takes such fantastic care of their guests. The lifeguard is great. This resort wants to keep their guests safe! LOVED THAT Cons - Food was OK. Always found something just not great though. Drinks are inconsistent. Sometime good/ sometimes not. Room(although a beautiful view) was dated. Didn't get a king bed and couldn't push two doubles together! Most disappointing was that we couldn't swim in the ocean! Red or Black flag every day. No ones fault but at the Las Brisas, they were swimming! Pool was disgusting. Two from our group got ear infections! Always cloudy. On the weekends the resort filled up with locals (whom I loved) but the pool was soooo crowded and dirty, I couldn't see my feet. YUCK! This is very difficult when you want to cool off but can't use the ocean OR the pool. Upgrading to the Premium service was WELL worth it. The Premium lounge is great but needs some updating. They should get rid of the tables and put more couches to lounge around on. We met amazing people from Canada, USA, Spain and Mexico. We will definitely return to Huatulco but not likely the Barcelo. I need to be able to keep cool!

We recently returned from a two week vacation at the Barcelo Huatulco . I want to start by saying that Huatulco is a fantastic destination!lots of culture and weather is fantastic. People were very friendly and welcoming. Cab's are reasonably priced and you can go to the towns, historical sites and other beachs for under $5 USD. They also accept Canadian dollars everywhere there which we didn't realize. The resort itself was not as nice as we had hoped. Having stayed at the Barcelo Maya before we had hoped all Barcelo chain resorts were held to the same standard. We found this wasn't the case. This resort in our opinion needs a facelift. It is very clean we had no complaints there but everything is old and in disrepair. Toilets ran, bathroom faucets leak and it is impossible to regulate the temperature in the shower. However the bed was comfortable and the room was clean and the view from the room was amazing. The food at buffet was good but service was lacking. It was an in convince for them to get you a glass of wine or a Cerveza with your lunch at the main buffet so there for it was never offered. They would get you on if asked but it took awhile to be attended to then a wait to receive your order. Different to most places we have been to before. If you ate at the beach restaurant drinks were not a problem but the food variety wasn't as good. We found the drinks in general were lacking in quality unless you upgraded to priemun. Anyone with a gold bracelet was given the name brand liquor while the rest got the no name stuff. However the Cerveza was good. The grounds were mature and well kept. The birds were fun to watch and the number of spiecies was impressive. We found the pool to be a little cloudy all the time. We were a little concerned so we made sure as to not go completely under water. We neve had a hard time finding a chair at the pool or at the beach. However at the beach you are constantly being offered whares or services from vendors that can come up to the sea wall. They were not aggressive but constant. We have no problem dealing with vendors as a matter of fact we enjoy it but it got a little much as anytime you went to watch the ocean you were disturbed. We did however book a 7 bay tour from Reberto Hernandaz V. And had a very good morning snorkelling and seeing the sights along the way as well as seeing many turtles. We missed the dolphins that most people encounter....oh well next time. I would highly recommend Roberto he was very personable and knowledgeable. He also does deep sea fishing.if you are interested in one of these tours you can ask for him at the beach or he can be reached at yellofincatching@yahoo.com.mx . In closing I do not want to seem like we didn't have a good time at the Barcelo . We did but we will probably try a different resort the next time we visit Huatulco .

This is the third Barcelo we have stayed at (Cabo and Puerto Vallarta). I agree with other reviews it is in need of upgrading but more in the sense of patio doors that actually open, better drainage in the bathroom and AC control. The hotel itself was very clean and workers did work very hard keeping it that way. The food was fine. The a la cartes were fine. The setting is beautiful and the weather was amazing every single day for the two weeks we stayed (April 9 to 23). The water was rough but we still managed to walk on the beach. Apparently that is typical for this time of year. Bring tons of sunscreen but if you do run out there is some in the hotel store and the small stores that are across from the hotel. There are also a couple of good pharmacies in town. There is also a small store across the street from the hotel with a pharmacy in the back. We brought lots of US $1s for tips and we did tip all the time for drinks and meals. Although it is an all inclusive and they say you don't have to tip. We did. We brought pesos for shopping and withdrew pesos from the hotel bank machine as well as the bank machine across the street. We never had any difficulty getting lounge chairs but I noticed the chairs around the pool went first. We liked being near the ocean. My main complaint would be that starting Thursday to Monday a lot of Mexicans flood into the resort for weekend getaways. The buffets were packed, the pools were also packed. We specifically chose April 9th as we thought spring break would be over as well as Easter and it would be less busy. Not so. There are also a lot of kids and babies at this resort. If you are traveling with children it is very kid friendly. I like kids but we were wanting more of a relaxation getaway and so next time I would choose an adult resort. The kids' pool is larger than the adult pool. In the afternoon, a game of pool volleyball decreases the available adult pool space even more. I would say that the resort could use another pool area. Our best meal was off resort at Don Porfinio's - across the street and around the corner. We had jumbo prawns that were charcoal grilled. Amazing meal. We also went to Crema Pizza and while although it was tasty - the place is grungy. We drank beer - I would stay away from drinks with ice off resort. Quite a few people would disappear for a few days and resurface saying they had been sick for the past 2 to 3 days in their room. I don't think you can blame the resort. People do go off resort and bring back bugs and it spreads around. We talked to someone else staying at Secrets who was sick for 6 days. We had a couple of days not feeling so well but after we slowed down on our cocktails and food and drank more water to stay hydrated we were fine. We did a couple of excursions - deep sea fishing through Sunwing. The experience was great - did not catch anything although it was close and a Marlin circled the boat but did not take the bait - we saw TONS of dolphins and a least 50 were swimming with the boat. Lots of big turtles and a 12 foot wide mantaray. We also went on a bay tour with Eutiquio Santiago (Teko). This guy is on the beach in front of the hotel - his boat is the Marisol. A nice size boat too. We went snorkeling and to all the main beaches and lunch at San Augustin Beach. It was an all day event and very worth while. He also took us out to find dolphins and turtles. Our Vancouver flight was redirected through Calgary which made for a very long flight. 8 or 9 hours. I would return to Huatulco some day - maybe not next year because there are too many places to see in the world. The locals are so friendly, the setting is amazing and the weather is perfect every day.
