Wonderful resort - would go back!

We were at the resort from Jan 21 to Jan 28 and enjoyed it immensely. There was 10 of us (5 couples) and we never had any trouble getting a table together at any of the al carte restaurants or buffet. The food was great! Always fresh and tasty. At the buffet, we were greeted warmly by the hostess/host and there was a fellow that played the harp/keyboards every morning. That was a nice touch. The resort had many amenities and was very clean. Service was very good and there was lots of staff around. Although there were many stairs to climb as the back of the resort is on a decline, they had elevators at every level. There was a large infinity pool with a swim up bar in a cave like area. This pool was the most frequented but the water was cold. There was an adult only pool and area that was nice as well as a family pool with volley ball net for all to enjoy. Those 2 pools were heated. The beach area for the resort is very small and the ocean tends to be rough, however, if you keep going either left or right, there was larger beach areas (although public), where you could enjoy the ocean. There is a small island that you can go to that has a nice beach and snorkeling. The cost to get there by boat was 40 peso (about $3.50) per person. It was about a 15 min. walk to the pier. The rooms were very spacious and really nice with a sunken tub in the middle of the room. We used it only once, as it took a long time to fill. All of the rooms face the ocean and have large balconies. The higher you go the better the view. The maid service was usually twice a day. It was nice to get additional/fresh towels and the bed turned down in the evening. The area surrounding the resort was beautiful and very clean. It was a 10 min. walk to a nearby flea market and there is some great bike trails to hike on. We took the bus to town which took about 25 min. The cost was 12 pesos/person versus 150 to 180 peso for a taxi and the buses went by every 15 min. We really enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend this resort and this area of Mexico. More>

Perfect Paradise--for us

...but not if you love lounging on a huge beach, or drinking alcohol 24/7! We are currently staying at the Azul Ixtapa Grand, sister property to (with access to amenities of) the older adjacent Azul Ixtapa. We really appreciate the huge marble-tiled air-conditioned room with awesome views and large beautiful clean balcony (although it could get awkward for two friends uncomfortable with nudity due to the huge central open bathroom (with doors to the toilet and awesome rain forest head shower, facing each other with a small hallway in between)--but just perfect for the two of us! The mini-bar was stocked daily, and a cart came by in the afternoon to offer more refreshments during our afternoon breaks from the heat. The Grand has an outstanding gym--including TRX, spin classes, yoga, balance/core supplies, and the latest cardio machines, weight systems and free weights, The Food is very good--a small buffet with a mix including healthy choices (eg. for breakfast--egg station including egg whites on request), and reservations available at excellent a la cartes. We loved the seafood Oyster Bar the best--on the boardwalk between the resorts--ask for it! Lunch reservations (in addition to 3 dinners in our package) were also available, and we weren't limited! More seafood than we had in the Mayan Riviera--cerviche, fish, octopus, squid, and shrimp especially. The vibe is relaxed--although if you want to be active, many activities are also available (including bike tours, kayak tours, and even sailboating--weather permitting). SUPaddleboarding is available at an extra charge. Drinks start at 10 AM, and the lobby bar opens later--avoiding what we've seen at other resorts with 24h alcohol. Not a "party" place. So friendly and civil! Children also have activities available--and the resort is balanced between families, and couples. We love walking along the boardwalk on the shore and the very safe/patrolled/peaceful/shady 10 km walking/bicycle path to Ixtapa and beyond. Playa Linda is a short walk to the left of the resort--with a viewing area for the crocodiles. A small market is also available there, where we bought souvenirs today. Oh yes--and the wi-fi was included in our package--and the fastest in-room service we've had when travelling. We hope to be back! And we hope to learn a little Spanish in the interim--the staff and locals are genuinely friendly people (fish, coconuts, and tourism are the major industries in the region). More>

Smokers, Smokers and Smokers. Will not stay again!

- During check in we were not given much information about hotel restaurants, only that we could NOT use the facilities at their sister hotel (Azul Ixtapa). - Minibar fridge was not working when we checked in. Within the next week the fridge was replaced 3 more times. Did not have cold water or soda during these times. Had to buy cold drinks at the store. - only Modelo beer at the bars and in the minibar fridge, (Yuck! ) -Lots of bees buzzing around and crawling on people at the pool bars. The Lobby Bar does not open till 4 PM. - Bar service is hit and miss. ( Sometimes good and sometimes poor. ) -There are not enough loungers at the pools and people reserve loungers first thing in the morning for their party - some don't come to the pool till the afternoon. - Sent in some laundry to their laundry service and when it came back, one of our shirts was ruined - had small holes in it. - People smoking on the balconies, at the pool ( even the kids pool ), and at the dinner show while you are trying to eat ( gross ). Unable to enjoy these areas. - Elevators can be very slow at peak times. ( People get on at lower floors and go up, just to make sure that there is room in the elevator to go down ). We will stay someplace else next year. More>

Great time all around

Wonderful relaxing time. Rooms were gorgeous and well kept. Neat towel decorations and fresh flowers every night during turn down. The buffet was above average with different choices every night. The al la Carte restaurants were fantastic and very accommodating. Make reservations for them as soon as you arrive to ensure you get the best seating times. We were allowed 3 per week but they gave us 4 to celebrate a birthday at no charge. Lots of choices and different drinks to try at the bars and the poolside service was second to none. BIG SHOUT OUT TO ABEL AND FRANCISCO! If you are going to get crazy and party like a rock star this resort might not be for you. The pools close at 8pm and the bar closes at 12. There is a night club open 5 days a week down the pier that's part of the resort. They play mostly Spanish music so brush up on your salsa! They have an event crew but they aren't go-getters. It's very chill and quiet. If you are looking to relax look no further than this place. We'll be back. No questions asked. More>

Great, awesome and marvelous all rolled into one. Great rooms, awesome restaurants and marvelous staff. Top shelf liquors everywhere. They actually keep the adults only areas for the adults, imagine that. Make sure to go to the oyster bar restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Reservations required but easy to do. Nothing better than sitting over the ocean with friends enjoying a great meal and ice cold Corona. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I am sure we will go back. More>
