Simply Amazing!

We spent the first week of April at this hotel. The weather was as good as it can get. The service was very good. The resort was super clean. The room and balcony were amazing. The adult pool was the warmest pool ever. Infinity pool was beautiful. There are a lot of stairs so yes like other reviews have stated...not a place to go if you have mobility issues. I have never seen such an awesome up to date gym! We have stayed at many 5 star hotels so it's hard not to compare one hotel to another. The food here is excellent but there is not an abundance of variety. Also it would be nice to have seating areas outside the front of the hotel. A lobby bar not over run by kids would also be nice. All in all we would HIGHLY recommend this hotel. This was our ninth trip to Mexico and we are very happy to have visited Ixtapa. More>

I hosted a group trip to this resort in January 2016. Everybody had a great time. Definitely, one of the best and cleanest resorts I have ever been to. The service was also amazing. The rooms and view where the absolute best! Would absolutely return and recommend to others. More>

A relaxing holiday

Other reviews on this site are pretty accurate with respect to our visit to the Azul Ixtapa Grand. We stayed at the resort from March 17-24. We had chosen a Sunwing package. We did have to stop in Calgary on the way there and again made a stop on the way back. We think that Sunwing should come back to Vancouver first on way home and then go back to Calgary, just to even out the flight times. In any case flights were good and we made it quickly through customs in Ixtapa. Azul Grand is beautiful.....pictures online do reflect what it is like. Pools are beautiful. We found the adult only pool to be a bit warmer, but more breezy than the other pools. Servers around the pool are plentiful. Be sure to tip though! One issue we had on our last day was with wearing shirts in the pool. Our kids had red shoulders so they chose to wear a shirt over their suits. Lifeguards told them that they could not wear suits in the pool. The conversation with the lifeguards did get a bit silly ...even management got involved. They wanted us to buy water shirts from the gift store. Other adults were wearing tshirts in pool? Just was a weird way to end the holiday. Meals: we really enjoyed the Asian restaurant and Italian. We liked the Mexican too but it is not as kid friendly with the food. Be sure to go and book your a la carte dinners your first morning there. We had to wait about an hr to book our meals but then we had reservations for the week. The dinner shows are worth it....you get one a week per room but if there is room after 3 pm for the second show they let you book it. The weather was fantastic. We got chairs by 9 every day but lots were already reserved by that time in the am. We did go to sister resort a few times as family was there. It is very loud in comparison. We couldn't wait to come back to our quiet little paradise. Staff is fantastic for sure. We do feel that we got a great deal at this resort. Go and enjoy! We will most definitely be back! Thanks Azul for a fantastic holiday!! More>

Food is REALLY bad

I am an average person with pretty average standards and desires; with that premises I want to point out that I did not expect much from Azul Grand. And we got less than that :-(( I read the reviews about the buffet decor, yes, it is true, but it didn't bother me much. My problem was the food - the Buffet food was very poor and limited. They have dorm size small refrigerators (2, one on each side) with deserts, cheeses, and cold cuts. There was one (!) plate with cheeses, one with ham, and 3-4 with deserts. The deserts were tasteless. And bread - only 2-3 choices. Most days there were no fruits at lunch. We didn't have one good meal during our stay, most of the time the food was either boring or smt was wrong with something... Italian restaurant is open once a week, on Wednesdays. Try tiramisu - it was the only ok desert I had at Azul. If there is a wedding, the Oyster bar is closed for the whole day, they will not serve any of the meals; and Thursday through Sunday there were weddings. Oriental restaurant had a nice tempura appetizer, but the rest of the meal was blah. Don't order sushi there - it is a roll with a LOT of rice, and no actual fish at all. Mexican is open for lunch and dinner every day; the menu is limited, you could try everything within a few visits. Shows are boring... I would recommend using your 3 reservations on Italian, Oriental, and Oyster bar because Mexican was always available, so was the dinner show. Also, there is no need to stay in line to make reservations - just call the service desk, they will transfer you to the reservation desk. It was easy and convenient. The hotel has some issues with controlling water temperature in the shower - it was jumping from OK to super hot every couple minutes. It was getting so hot I had to step out. It was annoying. One should be careful with younger kids. The room was beautiful, and the view was stunning. We did the kayaking/ snorkeling tour - it was the highlight of the trip. The hotel has 2 trips a day - 9:30am and 11:30am. Try taking the 9:30- it is less crowded, and not as hot. The service was outstanding everywhere. All workers were smiling, and showing genuine interest in their jobs. I personally would not go back, and will not recommend the hotel. I would understand these issues in a 2-3 star hotel, but not in this case. More>
