This is a beautiful hotel, with every room getting the amazing water views. The higher up your room the more expansive the view.Three salt water pools - one for every type of traveler, an adults only, an activity and an infinity pool that is breath taking. The beach in front of the hotel is limited but if you go to the beach towards the Club Med there is a large beach. Great restaurants, my favourite was the Oyster Bar be sure to reserve a sunset time as soon as you get there. The spa at the hotel is the BEST I have ever been to - ask to take a tour if you need to confirm it is a place you want to get a treatment.

Just got back from Azul Grand and it was wonderful. Very modern hotel, clean, beautiful and wonderful staff. The hotel manager runs the hotel very well and we had a relaxing vacation. The restaurants are all good, our favorites being The Oyster bar and The Mexican Restaurant both with excellent views. All rooms have beautiful ocean views, and large Jacuzzi tubs. The buffet was good with delicious fresh juice and the pool grill had good snacks, top shelf liquor if you ask and great drinks. Although its all inclusive we tip as should you, they work their tail off for you ten times more than any of the wait staff here in Los Angeles that we automatically give 20% too. The infinity pool was beautiful, there were two other pools that were also nice the resort wasn't too packed so we lucked out. The weather was nice, only one day of rain. We had access to the sister resort but we never went, we saw it on our way to the walk down the beach but that was about it. This hotel is mellow so if you're looking for a party hotel look elsewhere. There isn't a beach at this hotel but if you walk next door there is one at Club med and the water is nice and warm. Ixtapa Island is a short boat ride away $4 USD per person round trip from the dock and once you get there you can snorkel, swim at three swimmable beaches, eat, drink etc. they have boats leaving all day from 8-5 I believe. The only con I have about the hotel was since there were very few people staying at it, the swim up bar was closed, no big deal the waiters were constantly bringing our drinks even when we were in the water and the waterfall was always on, but it would've been nice. Didn't try room service, too full from dinner. The lobby bar is where we hung out at night they always had a DJ or karaoke and game room type of activities ie: pool, ping pong, foos ball, etc. My husband and I went as a couple and although we usually stay at couples only to get away from kids (since we have two little ones) we didn't find the kids to be a problem at this hotel, but again, the hotel was only half full and it was mainly locals which we loved because the few Americans that were there were so obnoxious we were embarrassed to say we were American.... ugh. Anyways, every single staff member smiles and greets you when they walk by and before we even had to ask, the bartender or waiter would have another drink ready for us it was awesome. Tipping goes a long way, but so does being a polite customer. Like I said, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and we will be returning most definitely. We never tried the Italian restaurant but we heard it was good. The Asian infusion was good, although if we had our kids not sure they would have enjoyed anything off the menu (something to think about if you have picky eaters ours are 6 and 7 ) All in all I say book your trip here take lots of ones to tip and don't forget to tip the maid, we had rose petals on our bed and our room was spotless!!!
Room tips: All rooms have ocean views and balconies but I guess perhaps the higher you are the better we were on 17th floor and the sunsets were incredible
Airport transfer: we booked through Best Day: air conditioned car, prompt pick-up and drop off $76 round trip (plus tip) we had 2 stops getting there and no stops to airport
Ixtapa Island: we took cash and purchased at dock: $4 USD per person R/T take money if you want to eat, drink, snorkel, etc.
Restaurants: Reservations required so call ahead of time, don't stress if you don't get them when you call, try again around 3pm they will usually get you in.
Lastly, enjoy yourself... take in the magic of Mexico enjoy the beautiful culture, people, beaches, etc. and have fun!!
What a great place!

We visited the Azul Grand in March for a week. This was our first time staying at an all-inclusive, and we really had a great time.
The rooms were spotless, roomy and suited our needs perfectly. The views are incredible and like other reviewers have stated, it doesn't really matter where you are in the hotel, you will have a spectacular view of the ocean.
The food at the resort was really good. After a week, we were ready to eat something different but during our visit, there was always something for everyone to enjoy. We especially loved the breakfasts. Lining up for a homemade omelet is highly recommended. The juices were so nice, especially the celery and parsley juice. The staff seemed anxious to seat us inside whenever we visited the buffet, but we would just ask to be seated outside and it was no problem. We enjoyed two restaurants, the Mexican and the Oyster Bar. However, the resort should really improve its booking system. There were so many guests upset that they couldn't dine in the restaurants or had to dine at 10:00. The food at both restaurants was delicious! We tried to get to the Oyster Bar just before the sunset and it was worth it!
We spent one evening at the neighboring hotel to catch a show. It wasn't really our thing but it was nice to do something different. We spent most days lounging and swimming in the infinity pool. We all loved this pool! There is a family pool up higher but it was definitely noisier and then there was an adults-only pool. The swim-up bar was cool but a bit tricky to get to and kids weren't allowed so we didn't use it as often as we would have liked.
In the evenings, we usually spent time at the hotel bar. The kids loved it and there was always some action.
As others have noted, if you are looking for a big beach hotel, this isn't it. There was a tiny beach but that suited us just fine.
The staff at this resort work so hard to please the guest. They were happy to help in any way.
If you are visiting, be sure to walk or bus down to Playa Linda. We had so much fun here in the shops and checking out the wildlife area. Also, be sure to boat across to Ixtapa Island. We spent the day here and it was enjoyable. We had hoped to snorkel but the water was too murky and it seemed too rocky. Instead, we took a ride on a banana boat. Great fun!
Make sure you bring lots of sunscreen. We ran out during the trip and had to pay $23 for a small tube, so stock up!
All in all, this was a great, relaxing resort! We would visit again in a heartbeat.

My family and I stayed at the Azul Ixtapa Grand for 10 days/9 nights in the last week of July. In short, this resort is nothing short of breathtaking! We are avid travelers and have been around the world, but would be hard pressed to suggest another hotel with views as spectacular as the ones from our balcony at Azul Ixtapa Grand.
The following is my synopsis of our stay and pro's/con's:
Beautiful open air lobby and quick check in. Cost was about $45US in taxi fare from airport. Our room was full of recent updates, super fresh and clean upon arrival. Travertine floors and vessel sinks along with ceiling showerhead gave the rooms a modern flare. Maid service was prompt and diligent each and every morning and evening. We were in room 1723 but as previous posters have mentioned, I believe every single room at this resort has a killer view and outside of requesting a higher floor, you'll be happy regardless of where you end up staying. The facilities at this hotel are all brand new (hotel is < 2 years old and has a sister property Azul Ixtapa next door - that hotel is 16yrs old) The pools are equally amazing with 3 of them spread across the property (one reserved for adults only) Each pool is clean and the staff extremely attentive - we had two children, 9 and 11 and both were constantly being watched by lifeguards while in the water. The only negative to the hotel rooms we found was a small lack of privacy on our bathroom door - it is glass and doesn't lock. Not a big deal to us though.
We found the buffet enjoyable with fresh fruits, juices, egg station and nice variety of dishes each morning. The children had plenty to choose from and we were want for not during our stay. We generally travelled outside the hotel so rarely ate lunch onsite but did enjoy the snack bar by the pool one day and had great burgers and assorted other snack type foods. You are allowed to book 3 a la carte restaurants per 1 week stay. A little secret - if you go downstairs and check with reservation between 3-4PM during your days without an a la carte reservation they will likely be able to find you a sport somewhere. Each of the restaurants we ate at was great! We enjoyed the Mexican, Italian and the Oriental the last (Oriental) twice! Food comes out quickly and preparation and service was meticulous. We also enjoyed Oyster Bar and found the dinner and views to be unparalleled. If you eat nowhere else make sure to make a reservation here for late evening to enjoy the sunset. Beautiful food and a beautiful view to boot!
We took plenty excursions during our stay - Isla Grand, Playa Las Gatas, Zihuatanejo Town Markets, Playa Larga, Playa Quieta, Playa La Ropa. Each of them was beautiful in its own right and deserved a day to enjoy fully. Out of all of the beaches we enjoyed Playa Quieta the most - quick 3 minute walk from hotel. Beautiful and serene with few turistas. Playa La Ropa was very lively and had lots of activities - parasaling, jet skiis, etc. Playa Las Gatas is supposed to be the most beautiful but frankly it was overwhelmed with people and had a very steep incline which made it less attractive to us. All said, the beaches are beautiful and waters very warm; however, be prepared as it is HOT. We are from Texas but the sun was very strong and you should plan accordingly.
We did horseback riding, parasailing, deep sea fishing and spent a fair amount of time simply pursuing shops in Zihuatanejo. Fishing was great - caught a giant yellowfin tuna and a mahi mahi - on a 40 foot boat!
I highly recommend Bill Miller (in charge of VIP program at the hotel) He was well spoken, extremely knowledgeable and seemed genuinely concerned about us having a good experience while on excursions he helped us plan. He coordinated the horseback riding, fishing , travel to Isla Grande and provided local experience relative to local sights and things to do/not do.
**A small suggestion - while in Mexico, although the hotel is an all inclusive, we always tipped 2-3 dollars (US) for breakfast/lunch/dinner and $1US when receiving drinks. Not required but certainly goes a long way in getting preferential treatment. We took $100 in $1 bills andf found it to be adequate for our 9 night stay!
All said, it was a beautiful trip and one we (and you) will not forget. With great food, beautiful people and a beautiful country what else can one ask for?
Enjoy your time at Azul Ixtapa Grand - I know we did!
