The hotel itself is beautiful, very modern and big! Its a fairly quite, relaxing hotel, not many kids running around, but there is a kids club which our kids participated in, they seemed to have really enjoyed playing tennis, mini golfing and meeting iguanas along with the other children. For adults there was zumba, but most of the activities such as water sports (kayak, sailboating) were at the other sister hotel (the Azul Ixtapa), we did visit twice in order to partake in those activities as well as rock climbing. The food was excellent at the al carte restaurants and the buffets. We went to a dinner and a show at the sister hotel (Azul Ixtapa) a short 8 minute walk from the Grand Azul, but were disappointed with the quality and variety of food. We highly recommend visiting the Mexican restaurant, both for dinner and lunch, as the menus are different, being of Mexican origins we can testify that this food is good, also the waitstaff at this restaurant is amazing, our waiter even went as far as to learn our names! We loved the Asian restaurant, but found our favourite spot to be a restaurant right on the ocean, in between both Azul and the Grand Azul. We ate lunch and breakfast here and were impressed by the views and the food. The desserts and drinks were very good at all the restaurants. The beach was not great, quite small and rocky. But if you walk to Azul Ixtapa's it is great and very large. If you're up for a small adventure keep walking past the Azul's beach. You'll get to a dock and some rocks, where you can fish. There a also a beautiful little market where you can buy essentials such sunscreen, sunglasses, bathing suits and souvenirs at a much better price then at the hotels gift shop. The Grand Azul had a nice sports/lobby bar where you can play ping pong, board games etc ( you can also order food and drinks). The snack bar was good as where all the bars. Overall we had a great trip, great food, great staff and great quality, we visit Mexico at least one if not twice a year but we absolutely love Ixtapa! This was our fourth time back to Ixtapa first time at the Grand Azul and we would recommend this hotel if you are looking for relaxing getaway on the Pacific coast of Mexico. More>

Truely Amazing Stay in Ixtapa- Can't say enough good things about the resort and service staff

This resort was amazing, very new and modern. Easy flight from Calgary to Ixtapa with Sunwing (also very pleased with their service) and short (30min) direct bus ride. Young guy selling beer on the bus was a plus. Every room has a crazy large balcony with a breath taking view. Clean, clean, clean. Service was EXCELLENT. Everyone working there was happy, pleasant, and enthusiastic to be there everyday. Food was really good. Lots of options. Recommend breakfast buffet at the Mexican restaurant, only found out about that half way through the trip. Can sit outside with a great view. In my opinion best food was the Italian restaurant (everyone was talking about it), one couple we met even requested dessert from there while in another a la carte- request granted with no issues. (Did i mention the great service) Pools are very nice and clean. Great pool side service by all servers. No real beach. Have always been a beach person myself but had no problem enjoying my time by the Infinty pool. What a great view so no complaints there. Not a real party place if that's what you are looking for but great for families, and have access to the sister resort that has a great shallow water beach that kids love and a fun looking kids pool. Sister resort really geared towards children, but grand is much more luxurious a stay. Super cool boardwalk along the rocks between the resorts to see crabs, birds, snails. Boardwalk all lit up at night for romantic walks we loved it My advice is to take the free kayak/snorkel tour out to the island. I finally signed up the last day, but should have gone everyday. So many other great activities to take advantage of. The short walk down the beach to the market and the crocodile reserve is also a must. From there you can walk miles further down an almost totally deserted beach. I have stayed in Cancun, Mayan Riviera, Puerto Vallarta, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and but I must say I loved Ixtapa. And this resort was one of the best. I cant wait to go back. Best value for my money in a long time. More>

This was our second time staying here and it is so beautiful I would stay again. The rooms are large with a nice balcony overlooking the ocean. The shower is huge but if you want privacy in the bathroom this will not you that. Glass door on toilet area that's it. Pools are beautiful. Infinity pool over looks ocean. Not many kids here do it's quiet. Great swim up bar. Food so so at buffet, food in the a la cartes are good. Asian really good. Spent New Years Eve here and they had a great party. Great food, entertainment and fireworks to boot. Well done!! More>

Loved it...the pools were fantastic. Beach was small but we are not big beach swimmers. Service at the pools was excellent. Nothing bad can be said. Food was good. Buffet decor could use a little redo. Did not really match the rest of the hotel. The ambience didn't fit well. The hotel was exquisite; however the buffet seemed out of place. The specialty restaurants were fabulous. Rooms were spacious and beautiful. Service was superb. Hotel staff was very friendly and went out their way to help. Would go again in a heart beat . More>
