ok, so i never thought i'd ever, EVER, attend or even want to attend a Destination Wedding, but i did. my very sweet friend Miriam invited me. and i said yes. and i'm so glad i did. and so is my (equally reluctant) boyfriend! if you ever decide to do a 5 star vacation, this is it. normally i choose rustic and simple vacations. off the beaten track is my thing. but the Azul Grand (not the one with the Convention Center attached) (yes, it's confusing) is something worth experiencing. it seems every room has an ocean view. even from the jacuzzi! you can truly hear the waves crashing on the beach. the restaurants all have amazing views. the beach is small, but worth it. the boardwalk connects this newer hotel with the Azul Convention Centre hotel which has a bigger, busier beach and hosts all the coolest beach activities. we went sea-kayaking and explored the island, and also enjoyed a lovely catamaran voyage at sunset. walk a bit further on the beach and discover an open-air market. cool stuff. low prices. real people. even the lamest attempts at spanish are encouraged. there are nightly shows at the convention centre next door (which we could kinda see from our balcony) and they are worth crashing or even placing a reservation for. also, Sunwing offers free room service. no kidding. there is a Botanical Garden right next door, actually between the 2 resorts, and the birds are colourful and vocal and even the iguanas are willing to show themselves. it's a wonderful place to indulge yourself and also to experience the true beauty this part of the world has to offer.

The Azul Grande Ixtapa was the perfect location for our Fizzy Friday Ladies Getaway. Six Canadian ladies with different tastes and interests all had a wonderful time at this all-inclusive resort from April 6 to 13, 2017 (booked through Sunwing). Our three rooms were on the 23rd floors. The rooms were large, clean, well appointed and had gorgeous ocean views. I found the bed to be very comfortable. Housekeeping was excellent, always seeming to make our rooms up quickly during the day. I always found our room made up if I came back in the mid afternoon for a siesta. The resort is clean and very well maintained. There are 3 large swimming pools and at least 5 jacuzzi spas (kept warm, not hot). Plants and flowers are abundant, and there are comfortable seating areas in almost every area of the resort. I enjoyed the variety of dining experiences at the Azul Grande. Breakfast selections were plentiful at the buffet. For a change of scenery, the Oyster Bar located along the boardwalk serves a very nice breakfast, buffet style as well as eggs made to order. Dinners at the various a la carte restaurants were very nice. I was especially impressed with the level of service at the a la carte restaurants. Friendly, efficient, helpful and charming, never rushing us through our meals. Drink service by waiters was a nice touch at the adult pool. If one didn't want to wait 5 or 10 minutes for a drink to be delivered to your lounge chair, you could simply walk a couple dozen metres to pool bar. A week with good friends, lovely sunny weather, and warm Mexican hospitality at a beautiful resort made this a vacation to remember. I definitely hope to return someday.

Excellent resort, easy to get to, price included transfers to and from airport. Excellent food, quality of service and premium drinks, three nice pools, bar service excellent around the pools. Nice specialty restaurants included art no extra charge. On the ocean, sandy beaches.

I loved the Azul Ixtapa Grand. It's very new and modern. Comfy beds, great A/C, great room amenities. Each room has a large balcony with amazing ocean views. Housekeeping staff did a great job of keeping the room spotless. The food was very good both at the buffet and the a la carte restaurants. The gym is probably one of the best equipped gyms I've seen at ANY hotel. It was great if you're into working out while you're on vacation. Many classes were offered for free. We used the tennis courts, they have both hard surface and clay. The hard courts were in pristine condition. The pools, especially the infinity pool are amazing. Bar service in the Grotto was excellent. The staff at the hotel is wonderful, happy and friendly. There are many stairs to get to the pool area but there are also elevators and ramps for those who have accessibility issues. Comfy pool loungers and plenty of them. There's always those who reserve chairs and nothing's ever said, so the only way to make sure you get a spot to sit is to do the same. Bring a magazine and towel down before you go for breakfast and you'll be guaranteed a spot. It wasn't too busy when we were there in March, so chairs were usually plentiful. There's a great boardwalk between the Azul Ixtapa Grand and its sister property. There is only a very small beach in front of the Azul, so to get to the better beach you need to walk about 10 minutes. If you continue to walk past the pier you'll find Playa Linda. It's a great, quiet stretch of beach. It's busy on the weekends with lots of bars and locals hanging out. Very nice people. We felt very safe. Keep your eyes open for baby crocodiles running across the beach into the ocean, no kidding. Very cool to see. Loved the property and would go back in a minute!

First off, I would like to thank Deyanira for making our "Fizzy Ladies" getaway fantastic, and hard to beat. We will just have to keep coming back here! The most outstanding feature of this property was the cleanliness and the friendliness of the staff. Other than that, what you read is what you get! There are no surprises. The beach is virtually nonexistent but the beach next door at the Azul is fantastic. We knew this going in and spent a pleasant week by the Adults only pool. The rooms are huge, all ocean facing(with gorgeous views of the moonset and sunset) and the balconies are huge. Everyday we were greeted with a different towel animal on our bed. The food was good and some choices were excellent. For anyone that says the food is disgusting has a very narrow mind. We were 6 women with all varying palettes and there was something to please everyone. The gym is top notch and they offer various classes at no extra cost. We did the mountain biking tour and the kayak/snorkelling tour. Both were excellent. We took the bus to Zihuatanejo and a taxi back. The bus was an experience and cheap. If you get the opportunity get out and explore the area, It is an absolute gorgeous area of Mexico. I cannot say enough about this property and their staff. It is very well run. You can tell by the pride each staff member takes in their job. We will definitely be back!
