Aston Beach hotel is on the beach
BERENICE R.
May 19 2017
The only reason to stay at the Aston beach hotel is location. Or if you are under 5' 5" tall. For my family there was very little comfort. I am 5' 7", and my sons and husband range from 6' 1" to 6' 4", so when I had to do a back dip to wash my hair I can only imagine what gymnastics the rest of them had to accomplish for a shower. Our room was serviced once inn the six days we were there, and not very well. The bathroom floor had the same hair and grime on the floor the day we left as the day we arrived. No where does anyone mention that there is absolutely no indoors in this hotel. Everything is outside; lobby, foyer, greeting area, restaurants and dare I say the rooms might as well be! I set the Air conditioner to 65 on arrival and it never dipped below 70. It was not from lack of trrying, because the unit ran nonstop, but rather from the fact the were really in a motel with a hotel faade. The hallway was the out of doors, so with the normal hotel gap at the bottom of the bedroom door the air was for naught. The towels were thin, harsh and in serious need of replacing. The bathroom was meant for tiny people, so when we walked in we hit our shins on the toilet and to get toilet paper we had to twist left without whacking our left elbow on the counter, which was an accomplishment when you have arms belonging to a 6'4" body. Hawaii is an amazingly beautiful place, but our experience was dimmed by out hotel choice. There are two "restaurants" attached to the hotel. Both served terrible food, but the employees seem nice. Neither could cook an egg, and toast comes out pale here. The Tiki Grill and Bar screwed up four out of five eggs we ordered and were not familiar with replacement procedures which allowed the rest of the plate of food to get cold before we saw somewhat properly cooked eggs. Wolfgang Express just can't cook an egg unless it has been sitting in a pan for an hour. The eggs were like rubber and the toast was blond. The positives: There is a nice small lighted mirror in the bathroom, the view was gorgeous, and the bar could pour a glass of wine. If you want to be hot all the time, and are below 5'5" tall this is the place for you.

The breakfast was to be included. That was a joke! Not good and having to fight for tables was ridiculous.

I did not like that we had to pay for the amensity fee. It should have been included in the package. When we first got there, the guy that checked up in did not explain everything well and he didn't act like he wanted to service us.

The Sheridan Maui was absolutely perfect! Oahu was amazing as well, however the Aston hotel in general was very outdated with small bathrooms, poor drainage for the shower with standing water, and crazy elevator service. The breakfast while appreciated, left scarce seating and accommodations.

Our intial room was near ongoing renovations that were extremely noisy and made for a bad vacation experience. After notifying the front desk we were moved to another room that was very good. Good customer recovery after a terrible night.

2019 Honolulu trip

I will start this review by telling you that my wife and I travel to Honolulu every year and have spend the majority of our stays in this hotel. The Aston is a older building that has been well maintained over the years .The management and staff are exceptional in my opinion the hotel is kept very clean. We stay in an ocean front room on the 15th floor every stay not to high or low perfect level , there is no better ocean view anywhere in Waikiki I assure you there my be some that equal it but none better. We have looked at many some costing hundreds of dollars more per night the value and view is truly amazing. As much as we do like this hotel there are a few areas that concern us the aminities fee is now 39 dollars per night up considerably from past years , The wonderful poolside breakfast that was included in each guests stays is now gone as well as the daily local newspaper we have enjoyed over the years, also the video gaming and movies system is gone . To be fair management did advice me that some version of a breakfast is going to be brought back soon I look forward to this . I will close with this hotel is a exception value for the dollar the housekeeping staff is very friendly Rosanna on the 15th floor took excllent care of us on this most recent trip. I can not emphasize enough the view and location on the beach is perfect , near shopping, restaurants ,and best section of Waikiki beach Thank you Joseph Bydlon

I had a room with the partial ocean view looking out over the ocean towards Honolulu. The scenery was beautiful. The hotel is a little out dated, but for the view and price, it is awesome. I checked in on a Friday afternoon, and my room was ready. The location is great being right around the corner from the Zoo, and right across the street from Waikiki Beach. I will be staying there again.

Great location, staff were amazing and the bed was very comfortable. Super close to a Starbucks and just across the street from the beach. There are always Ubers and Taxis to take you where you need to go.

This hotel double charged me 3 times in a row even after I brought the hotels errir to their attention . The first time the person said it was computer error on their part and guaranteed the problem was fixed . The next two times the front desk person insisted there was no problem with the computer and insisted that it was my mistake & must have forgotten some charges . They charged me full rates on my debit card which I left for incidentals . The room was PREPAID by my employer . Then the front desk employee blamed the fraudulent charges on a co worker claiming that person entered an incorrect code . When I requested my debit card be deleted so it did not happen again , he refused for several minutes claiming it was impossible . Eventually he claimed he deleted my card . He also refused to give the complete name of any manager . The staff at the front desk was “nice “ but clearly poorly trained , unwilling to accept accountability , and dismissive . Every future guest be advised , monitor activity on your credit and or debit cards frequently throughout the day if you choose to stay at this hotel . Thought y’all should know .

Stayed here the first week of February. There website said there was a 25 dollar a night parking fee. We arrived and the parking fee went up to 45 dollars a night ! We parked around the corner at the zoo for 1 dollar an hour. They removed the playstation/DVD player with a note saying that this will "improve our experience at there property", Really ? I don't get that at all ! How do they know what is going to improve my experience. I thought that was part of there daily amenity fee ? That 39 dollar fee a day was not reduced when they removed that or replaced with some other amenity. I have stayed at this hotel several times and every time they increase fees without improvement to the property. I stayed in an oceanfront room and they don't even have a decent chair to sit on, the chair is basically a bar stool. Taxes and fees 498.56 for a week stay without parking ! Ridiculous. Time to move on to another hotel.
