We stayed near the end of January for nearly a week. Had 3 rooms in total and booked as Guests of Honor. We were upgraded to bay view rooms in building 2. The rooms are nice and spacious with rainfall showers and great views. This came with free breakfast, which had a huge spread. The resort has ~7 buildings or so. We took the free buggy to dinner the first night because it was dark and we didn't know how far it was. After the first night, we sorta walked everywhere; maybe 5-10 min walk to breakfast and the pools where we were. If you were in a faraway building, you can call for the buggy to pick you up. The breakfast spread is huge. There's an omelette station, which we used every day. Lots of breads as well as fresh fruit. About 7-8 main dishes, of which half were changed daily. It also came with coffee for us, and the frappuccino is EXCELLENT. Less sweet than Starbucks; very addicting. You'll also see monkeys at breakfast trying to steal your food. There are 3 pools; get there before mid-morning or all the chairs will be taken. The 2 beaches are kinda small, but you can snorkel around there. They have a free shuttle to a nearby beach house, which has a nicer beach than the resort. Will also take you to the Four Seasons, which has the nicest beaches. There is also a shuttle to the marina, which has a dive bar that we ate at 2 times because a) the food is good and b) it's cheaper than the resort. All in all, a great resort and weekend escape.

Beautiful resort with amenities and monkeys galore

We spent our anniversary trip here last month and the staff was amazing. They decorated our room with hearts, banner, and bottle of Cava upon our arrival. The drive into the resort is panoramic and breathtaking. There is a great sculpture series when you first drive up to the main gate. The lounge where you first enter the hotel is the way that I wish all hotels would greet you when you've completed your journey anywhere. You are directed to loungey seats, you are sitting semi-outdoors in paradise with a fabulous view. Someone brings you the cool washcloth you didn't realize you needed scented with herbal fragrance. There is a glass jar of home made coquitos and fruit infused cold water. It is 90+ and humid and you are no longer that hot and are casually checked in by friendly staff. There are porters with golf carts to take you through the resort which has a large foot print and up on a hillside so there are a lot of stairs. The staff patiently let me practice my terrible Spanish. They have several beaches on the property with monkeys hanging overhead, birds flying through, and fruit infused cold water. Sometimes they just start passing out smoothies. They also have water sports on their beaches and free use of kayaks and paddle boards. We found we didn't even need to leave the resort that much as we had plenty to do and see in the waters and trees around the property. There's a large series of family pools and adult pools, both have infinity pool. Really a great place all around for couples or families which we saw plenty of there. We will be back again soon!

The management and staff here have created a 5 star relaxing atmosphere. The entire resort is modern and tranquil. The entire staff takes hospitality to a new level. Laura Cabalceta and her staff at check in, set the tone for one of the best vacations ever. If you like ceviche, take the ceviche class the resort offers. It was a highlight of the trip.

2nd visit here, amazing first visit, pretty bad second visit.

I am taking the time to write this review due to my sincere disappointment over my latest stay with Hyatt. I travel all the time for work, I spend about 10-13 nights per month in a hotel. I have seen pretty much everything, from things being done really badly, to things being done really well. I don’t get to pick my hotels, but if I did, I would always pick the Hyatt. I have been a huge fan of theirs for many years now as they tend to get things really right. 2 years ago, in January of 2016 I took my then girlfriend and our young son to the Hyatt Andaz Papagayo in Liberia, Costa Rica for vacation. It was also the vacation where I proposed to her on your beach at the hotel. Not only does this hotel have a special place in our hearts because of that, but the resort was incredible. The staff, the grounds, the rooms, the amenities and the restaurants were firing on all cylinders. It was a beautiful thing to see and was a stay to remember. Afterwards, I wrote a review for the hotel, praising it and the staff because I was so happy, only offering a couple simple observations to improve on items that were simply me nit picking a wonderful stay, ending with the statement that we would be back. We came back. Two years later with a new addition to our family, we planned our visit to include five nights. At our arrival, I didn’t notice much of a change, but then day by day we kept seeing the changes. I want start with what the hotel still is doing well. Obviously the location is still amazing, the grounds are beautiful; we simply LOVE the two beaches. Our boys had tons of fun playing in both the pools and at the beaches and the hotel does an amazing job catering to couples with young kids. The fact that kids under 5 years old eat free is seriously amazing. Our youngest has some food sensitivities and the restaurant staff were very helpful and accommodating while helping us create meals for him. He is also still using a special infant formula due to those food sensitivities, which we brought enough for the whole stay for him with us. Once opened, the bottle of formula needs to stay refrigerated and this is where we begin with our issues. The mini refrigerators that are in each room, during our last stay were quite cold, as they were filled with water and soda, so we knew that we would have no problem keeping the formula cold. Except, this time those same mini refrigerators, didn’t keep anything colder than room temperature. Upon asking about it, I was told multiple times that was the correct setting, nothing was wrong with them, but they would send out an engineer the next day to double check. It was late at this point on our first evening and I just needed to keep our formula cold for the night, I also figured I could get it rectified the next day, so I just asked about getting a container of ice that would be large enough for our bottle of formula. This seemed to stump every single person I spoke with, both on the phone, and in person. No one could offer me a container that was bigger than a standard ice container. Finally a kitchen manager offered me a clear plastic bucket that was perfect, and filled it with ice, about the equivalent of two standard ice buckets. The process took almost an hour to just get this bucket of ice, one that I shouldn’t have needed, considering every room has a refrigerator. We also set a scheduled ice delivery time every day for the evening to ensure we had ice for the overnight. We never received ice. Ever. Nor did we ever see an engineer. I was forced to go to the kitchen, or call for ice, each and every time. The times I called, I had to ask for extra ice, because they seemed to ration their ice. This is absolutely INSANE. It wasn’t until I checked out, and I mentioned it AGAIN to the front desk, the manager mentioned I should have requested an in room mini-fridge… I never knew they existed, and then what is the purpose of the refrigerator built into the room? I will leave this issue here, but closing it with the comment that it is ludicrous to think keeping a bottle of formula cold would be such an issue at a resort such as this. Next we began to notice issues with the staff. No longer was everyone friendly, helpful and welcoming, as they were during our last visit. Last time I think we encountered maybe 2 people who were not the most friendly, this visit however, it was completely hit or miss. Some of the staff like Carolina at the front desk, Bernie, Jose and Joseph were absolutely phenomenal. But they were now the exception, not the norm. Many didn’t smile or say hello, even after we would initiate, the service at the restaurants was crippling slow, even though we would be one of 4-5 tables. Specialty coffee during breakfast was hard to get by the time you were ready to leave (one of my original complaints), I was never brought sugar, EVER, even after asking multiple times, so I had to get it myself, and the food just wasn’t as good. It just seemed more bland than last time, more Americanized if you will. We tried as many items on the menu as we could, and most of it was now just average, with the exception of a couple dishes that were still excellent. The rooms are still overall beautiful. But our bed was HORRIBLE. It was like sleeping on a well worn highway where the tire grooves are worn so deep, that you had no choice on where to lay, and you felt like you were rolling down a hill otherwise. This is honestly the first time I have not liked a Hyatt bed. I just can’t comprehend why this was the case. Maybe at a Holiday Inn or a Radisson I wouldn’t be surprised by old beds, but NOT the HYATT. I never mentioned it to the staff because the last thing I wanted to do, was to spend my vacation at the front desk, asking for things that I shouldn’t need to ask for. Smaller items included no towels on the distant beach except for the second day, our first night, we had to order room service because no one told us the main restaurant was closed for a special event at 5pm, a stupid super bowl party at the tapas restaurant that served only a buffet of american junk food instead of the regular menu, our room in our last visit was serviced with fresh fruit (Apples/Oranges) each day, as well as unique local snacks, this time no fruit and only one type of cracker that was horrible. On our last day, we called in advance to schedule a pickup at 10:45am, as our airport shuttle was to arrive at 11:00am. That was plenty of time to arrive at the front desk and checkout without being late to depart to the airport. We also asked to have them pull our car seat out from the storage area they offered at check-in. My wife ended up having to walk with the kids to the front desk to remind them to pick me up, while I waited with the bags before they finally came. When I arrived at the front at approximately 11:00a, and said hello to our waiting airport shuttle they still had not retrieved our car seat so I asked again. After our checkout, I walked up to the shuttle, only to find that we were STILL waiting for our car seat. Upon our third request it finally magically appeared, and we were on our way. What is going on here? You have a jewel of a location here, with amazing local people for staff. There is no reason this should be happening, unless Hyatt corporate culture has taken a nose dive, or the General Manager here is doing something, very, very wrong. As much as we want to visit here again, we are truly reluctant, and are considering other Hyatt locations in the hopes we will find another gem for our next vacation. It saddens me though, to see such a great property start to become just an expensive shell of its original self.

Stunning ocean views from an eco-friendly luxury hotel. Food options at all three restaurants were fantastic and the service top-notch. It was hard to leave the friendliest hotel I have visited--for the second time.
