First off, we booked this trip with Air Transat and it was advertised there was a kids club 2-12 which was the main reason we booked this resort. I had even messaged the resort through Facebook to confirm the kids club and ages and their response was “yes, we have a kids club” We get there and go to drop our 3 children (2,3,11) off at the kids club when they tell us the kids club is 5+. After wasting half a day dealing with the hotel and Air Transat I got no where, I was told by Air Transat that it was a miscommunication between them and the hotel. The hotel agreed they could watch the kids while we were there, but they definitely were not qualified or set up to handle the 2 year old. This detail alone ruined my vacation. I spent my entire trip running after a 2 year old that was board, if I knew the kids club was 5+ I definitely would have picked a resort that was a lot more kid friendly. I don’t recommend this resort if you have small children. Rooms: We had a 3 bedroom and it was huge, not overly clean and a really strong scent smell when we first got there. The strong scent went away after a few days. The kitchen seems like a huge waste of space. Food: average at best. The Tiara we found had better food. The Japanese restaurant in the Tiara is amazing and food was excellent here. I liked how the pool had a sloped entrance so the kids could go in slowly, it was really cold water I couldn’t even get the 2 year old to go in. The reason I give this hotel the rating I did was the staff. They really are truly amazing and they did really try to accommodate us. Charlie from entertainment and Queen Isabel in the kids club just to name a few, everyone really tries to ensure you are having a good time. The golf cart that transports you to and from the Tiara was the hi-light of my 2 year olds trip and we never had to wait long. My kids loved the staff and always getting high fives. Seriously best staff hands down.

Having spent two weeks at Alsol Luxury Village over Xmas and New Year with family, it was one of the loveliest holidays we have had in recent years. We would definitely go back and in fact Mama Jean (as my mum-in-law became affectionately known at the Alsol Luxury Village) wishes she could return tomorrow!! Accommodation & Resort; We read all the reviews before we booked and so we understood the Alsol Village was going to be different to the usual all-inclusive resorts one might stay at when on holiday as it wasn’t on the beach (albeit we knew there was a small harbour beach at the Tiara (the sister hotel a few minutes’ walk away), it was in a quieter residential harbour area (Cap Cana) which was underutilised currently, and most likely more an aparthotel rather than a large resort. We were therefore expecting a smaller, more boutique, resort that was most likely quieter than other areas outside of Cap Cana and probably with less “bells and whistles” in terms of facilities. We booked our holiday through Tui. When we arrived at Alsol Luxury Village, it proved to be as expected and over the course of the holiday, it exceeded our expectations. The accommodation was excellent. We booked a 2-bedroom apartment, which turned out to be very spacious, clean, and which had a terrace which looked out onto the quieter second largest pool in the resort (Kokomo Pool). A bottle of sparkling wine and fruit was waiting for us, which was a lovely touch on our first evening, which happened to be Xmas Eve. Restaurants; Food was very good all the way through our holiday. Often food can be the let down at all-inclusive resorts however the Mariners restaurant where the buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served, was consistent in delivering good food; the Xmas Eve Gala Dinner in particular was excellent. The only themed evening it didn’t quite work for us was the Asian food themed eve; some of the dishes were a bit hit and miss. We also ate at the Il Cielo (Italian) and the Bistro (Argentinian steak house). We preferred the Bistro and had two excellent meals there. Please note though that these two restaurants share the same facility so they are open on alternate nights on this basis. We had lunch at the sister hotel Tiara’s beachfront Grill a couple of times when lounging at the small beach at the Tiara and the food there was also very good. We attended an evening barbeque at the beachfront Grill too, and the food was excellent. We didn't feel the need to use the Tiara restaurants aswell although they were available to us. Drinks; We couldn’t fault the drinks, all-inclusive covered all local spirits, soft drinks and house wine, and there was a menu which contained some premium drinks (usually just premium labels for vodka, rum etc.) to order and at dinner you could order wine off a menu at additional cost if you wished. Drinks seem to get stronger every round! There is poolside service at the main pool and the Kokomo pool so it is all too easy to relax all afternoon and let the Pina Colada’s come your way! Other Facilities; We used the Gym a few times at the Alsol Luxury. Ordinarily gyms are a disappointment at holiday resorts so we had no expectations, but the gym was a pleasant surprise, not just a couple of cardio machines and a broken cable tower machine as they usually are. For gym bunnies, it has; 2 treadmills, step machine, 2 elliptical and a couple of bikes - for strength training it has matrix machine equipment for; chest press, shoulder press, seated row, lat pulldown, leg extension, and lying hamstring curl. It also has a cable tower with attachments, a bench and a range of free weights up to 45lbs. Tiara: You can get a ride on a buggy up to the Tiara to use their facilities, but frankly you can walk to the Tiara main reception in 5-6 minutes. I was surprised how many people would simply wait around for a lift rather than walking through the resort to the Tiara! Always a lovely walk back from the Sports Bar from the Tiara for a last drink at the Dock Bar at the Alsol Luxury! We personally preferred the atmosphere and vibe at the Luxury Village to the Tiara, it felt like we were staying in a family run boutique hotel; there was just more of a personal touch for us. Cap Cana Harbour Setting; the Alsol Luxury is essentially perched amongst private condominiums in a harbour setting (called the Fishing Lodge) and as such there are a few restaurants, bars, and shops in a little commercial square next to Alsol to accommodate those residing outside of the Alsol Luxury. The surrounding area is quiet, and the harbour opposite (where Api Beach is) is even quieter. You can see through historical reviews the history behind the Cap Cana harbour area; we hope that the area will become busier in time and eventually someone will set up a business to take people from one side of the harbour to the other (literally would take a minute or 2 to cross in a boat it is that close!). That would be perfect! Juanillo Beach; You can take the free shuttle to the nearby Juanillo Beach or Api Beach (opposite the Tiara across the harbour) but if you don’t fancy waiting (as sometimes the queue for going to the beach can be long) it only costs $3 in a taxi to either beach which really is small change if you prefer to go to the beach and return at your own leisure. I note there is much said in reviews about the cost at the beaches but really the set up made perfect sense to us. The beaches are not public beaches, they are private (some are owned by groups of the hotel resorts) and each of these beaches has a restaurant which offers sun beds and often cabana style/shaded tables and chairs. The sun beds and table/chairs are not free but rather than you pay for those beds/chairs/sun shade (which you tend to do on European holidays) there is a minimum spend requirement at the restaurant. At Juanillo Beach if you just wanted a couple of sun beds on the beach, provided that you ordered some drinks during the day it was free so no particular min spend applied. If you wanted the larger shaded areas which had table and chair with a couple of sun-beds (could accommodate 6-8 people) there was a minimum spend of $100 during the day with the restaurant (little Johns). As a family of 3, a small lunch and some drinks easily came to $140 dollars after 18% local tax and 10% statutory service charge were applied so it was a no brainer for us to take the larger shaded table/chairs (note the menu prices are usually exclusive of the above taxes so expect final bill to be around 30% higher than expected). Nothing stopping you just sitting on your towel on the sand, but you are not allowed to bring your own food/drink to the beach so really you might as well take the option of the sunloungers!! We believe the same structure applies to most beaches nearby and also applied at Api Beach. If you walked to the right of Little John’s at Juanillo beach there is another similar set up at the La Mona restaurant, but the beach area was near rocks and not so nice as Little Johns which had a great atmosphere. Tiara Beach; You can of course avoid any additional cost by sitting on the Tiara harbour beach. We only visited the Tiara beach during our last few days of our stay. It was great, you got the feeling of being on a beach by the sea (even if the area is small), no charges for the beds, free drinks, sea breeze (which was much needed given the high temperatures) and it was easy to swim in the little sectioned off area at the beach (much easier than at the main beaches where there was much more seaweed and lots of stones to hinder your progress!). The harbour area was clean and it didn’t smell. Entertainment: Mr Cap and his team work very hard and there is something for everyone on a weekly basis. New Year’s Eve was a standout evening for us - a night to remember! The barbeque evening with the live band at the Tiara beach was also a memorable evening. Bars; the Bars were fine, but we would have loved another bar option that stayed open to 1am or later (Sports Bar Tiara and Dock Bar (lobby bar) at Alsol Village were both open until 1am). The layout of both bars could be improved as the bar areas themselves were small and in both cases the arrangement of seating around the main bar meant that you lost the atmosphere around the bar as soon as you sat down as seating was almost sectioned off from the bar area. We preferred the atmosphere at the Dock Bar so if the layout could be adjusted there this would be perfect for late night drinks! Staff; One of the highlights of our holiday were the staff, they were always friendly, helpful, and worked so very hard especially during the Xmas and New Year period. We cannot remember all of the names of those who served us as everyone was lovely to us, but certain individuals just stood out. In particular, we loved Cairo, Raphael, Abad, Jacinto, Yennifer, Hina and Jorge. Whilst we know that all-inclusive means inclusive of tips, we always tipped for particularly good service all the way through our holiday. I was a little surprised how few people tipped but understand it is a personal choice. Only Niggle: Although stated that wifi was free in rooms, the free wifi did not reach the apartment or around the pool so really you could only receive free wifi in Lobby at Alsol Luxury Village. As I was checking work emails, it cost me a lot of top ups on data to ensure that I could regularly see my emails during my holiday. Don't know if this is a temporary hiccup with wifi or just generally an issue with the reach of the wifi across the resort. If this could be resolved would be icing on cake! Top Tip; If you are going eat or drink at the beach or are going to tip regularly at the resort, make sure you take enough US dollars with you and lots of small US dollar notes with you as it not always possible to change your larger notes at the resort. Given the resort location there is only one bank nearby on the other side of the harbour near the Api Beach and we struggled to get money out of the ATM there (none of our cards worked and couldn’t get money out!). The bank wouldn’t take money off a debit or credit card at the till either! Had we not had some dollars with us we would have been really stuck as the nearest ATM was near the airport some 20mins away!

Exceeded every expectation!

What a fantastic resort. Arrived here with my partner on a Friday afternoon, our check-in was quick and easy. Our room was clean, air conditioned, and spacious (we had the Junior Suite), but a bit too humid for indoors for my liking. Our passport pages were literally warped and the glue on some of our envelopes was ruined by the end of the week just from the humidity in the air. Maybe an issue with our room or just the climate? Not sure. No issues with housekeeping. First thing I noticed was the whole property is so clean you could probably eat off the floor. Refreshing change from most places in Mexico we've been to. Food is top notch all day and night. Definitely recommend the teppanyaki (reserve before 10AM!) and the restaurant beside the beach at Tiara for lunch. They could stand to have a bit more in the way of salads/vegetables but not a huge deal. Room service arrived hot and fresh, always made-to-order. Drinks were strong, arrived fast, and lots of brand-name liquor in stock. NOTE: If you have a nut allergy, be very careful in the Italian a-la-carte restaurant (Il Cielo). While I informed our server of my allergy in advance, something in our food caused me to have a (thankfully minor) reaction. The chef and the manager were extremely apologetic and both insist there was nothing with nuts, but I've had this allergy all my life and know what a reaction feels like. Eat slowly and be careful! What really makes this place shine though is the staff. Everyone is so polite, sincere, and friendly! Gregorio, Versace, Charly Lopez, and Mr. Cap were a blast to hang out with by the pool throughout the day, and Volorio and Jeremy always made sure our drinks were full with a smile. I can't say enough good things about the people here - it really makes all the difference when you're on vacation and just want to enjoy yourself. One really noteworthy example: I saw the resort doctor mid-week as I arrived with a bit of a cold which worsened, and I received multiple phone calls from the manager over the next couple days asking how I was feeling and if there was anything they could do to make me more comfortable. Where do you ever hear of that happening?! I felt like they really cared about me enjoying my stay and that was really nice. Not sure who that was, but thank you! Further to that, don't forget that everyone on these resorts work for tips (regardless of if it's an all-inclusive)!!! I saw so many people on the resort get amazing service all day and not even tip $1. Come prepared with some US 1's or Dominican 50/100's and you will get even better service. Do some reading on average wages of Dominican resort staff and you'll see why this is important. Overall our only real complaints are that the WiFi did not work anywhere on the resort (including the lobby) and as mentioned above, the rooms are really humid. Not the end of the world - there's strong LTE service throughout the resort. Still 5 stars in my book. While I've always enjoyed previous vacations I've taken, I've never left a resort saying "wow, I would come back here" until coming to Alsol. Thanks for a great escape from the Canadian winter - definitely see you again.

We stayed at this resort for our 4th time. From private airport pickup to the food to the super friendly staff...this place is a 5 star resort!!!!! The rooms are amazing and spacious....we had a 2 bedroom with a swimout. The kids loved having there own pool and so did we. We def feel like part of the family when staying here. There is no way that anyone could ever say anything bad or negative about this resort. Amanda is very helpful with taking care of all our needs and Francy is great at taking care of reservations for dinner. Amil is the best manager we have ever dealt with, and all of the staff speak very highly of him!!! We will def return again next year to our home away from home!! Thank you all for a great week! xo
