The Pacific Beach Hotel is a good value for the price. The hotel restaurant has a two story aquarium and the sea food buffet was great. We had a great time and would recommend this hotel to all friends and family.

The elevators were slow and small. Most hotels these days include wireless internet but you have to pay at this hotel. If you are on the McDonald's side of the hotel, you can go out on your balcony and connect on McDonald's WiFi.... it takes time to locate which one it is but it's worth the time. If you look closely around floor trim, it could use better cleaning. But the hotel was satisfactory for the money.

We stopped by for cocktails and it was amazing!! A huge aquarium to sit and view while sipping authentic cocktails and appetizers. Grey was a fabulous bartender. Tomeika was gracious and welcoming when we arrived. We will stay here the next time we are in town.

Absolutely amazing!!!

We could not have asked for a better stay! From the time we checked in until we checked out, the service and aloha spirit were always on point. Barbie at check in was fantastic. Janice by the pool bar was the best, she always went out of her way to ensure we had cold drinks and outstanding service, her kindness was such a breath of fresh air. Yukki at the O Bar made our evening with her sense of humor and service. Renee at check out was wonderful! Everyone we came across was so great. The food at every restaurant from the pool bar to Marimotos was soooo delicious!!! If you want true Hawaiian spirit and incredible service this is the place to stay. Hotel is beautiful, rooms are clean and well kept, the view is gorgeous, the location is perfect, and the pool is very relaxing. Whether you’re traveling as a couple or with children, this place has it all. The gym is equipped with free weights, bar bells and cardio machines, plus they offer classes everyday!!! The kids club looked so fun for the kiddos. Literally can’t express how great our stay was! Thank you! We will be back...our new favorite place to stay in Waikiki for sure!

Visited to see changes since it was renamed for the Pacific Beach Hotel

So many mixed feelings, this was a revamp that took some of the soul from the old hotel and lost it in pandering for a specific type of visitor - no harm in that as long as all other guests get a look in which did not always happen and at the room prices there are other more stylish and memorable hotels with their own beach frontage within 200-300 yards. Having said that, room was an ocean view (premium room) which did not disappoint, cleaning staff and other staff very helpful and courteous, pool area and bar popular and very well laid out - too much of a tendency to close parts off for private functions however without prior notice or any signs. I complained a little over this and the management recognised the problems and made appropriate offers which was unexpected but very acceptable. Hawaii/Waikiki is becoming very expensive since we first visited maybe 10 years ago however so bear in mind that all food, drinks and other costs are not what they are on the US mainland.

We booked in here for two nights as last stop on our 2 month odyssey and checked in late afternoon so no queue and the lass on the desk was efficient and explained where venue's were in the complex succinctly. Our king bed room with partial ocean view in June (US$227) was huge and a welcome change. However, they've walled off the toilet and shower and you can only just close the door - a mistake - should have put a sliding door on there. compensation is a dressing table bar with sink in an alcove outside. The bed was very comfortable and the balcony had corridor ocean views but mountain vista. Had drinks at the O Bar on level 5 with a chatty bartender as it should be. There's also a huge multi level deck chairs, lounges plus table & Chairs around the 3 various size pools on that level. we ate in one of the leased restaurants in the front building of the complex, Morimoto Asia, which was excellent - see separate review. Didn't use the coffee shop, street food cafe or lobby bar so can't comment on those facilities. It's in a great position in Waikiki with the main drag outside the door and the $2 shuttle trolley to Alo Moana centre across the road. Good for what we wanted so scores 8/10

- We waited over 3 hours for check in, even though we confirmed our arrival time the day before. And the hotel was not even half full. During the 3 hours, our bags were left unattended on a cart in the lobby -- anyone could have walked by and grabbed our bags without anyone stopping them. - Entrance from Kalakaua has NO esthetic appeal. It is barren and bland. Small glass display cases attached to the wall contained a few shells, that's all. - Outside of building is painted stark white, like a hospital. It used to be a sunny shade of light gold. The white does not represent the Island. - The carpet is a disaster. It looks like somebody pulled up carpet and left glue on concrete. When we stepped off the elevator onto our floor, we thought it was still under construction. - Tag on the room door (to request or decline maid service) does not stay on the handle. Every time you open the door, it falls off. - All room doors on our floor slammed shut, even if we tried to close it carefully. Anytime any door on the floor closed, it sounded like a bomb was going off... several times a day. - Bathroom is very small. You have to stand way inside to close the door for privacy. Half the counter is not accessible because the toilet is in the way. The showerhead often malfunctioned; it was difficult to control both the flow and temperature. The drain in the shower did not drain well -- water was above the ankles by the end of a shower. There were no amenities (toothpaste, toothbrush, etc) like the Pacific used to have. No clothesline to hang wet swimsuits in the shower area -- another thing we've lost. - No small sofa in Ocean Front King Room, even though it was on the website in photos. There was only one chair -- what were we supposed to do? Play musical chairs? - No clock in the room -- another loss. There used to be an electric clock radio with alarm, and now there is not. Once again, you are paying MORE for LESS. - Table in room has a round base which makes it impossible to extend our legs when seated. Must keep your legs bent at all times when seated at the table. - A pole lamp in the room blocks view of the TV. - There used to be a cabinet in the corner for coffeemaker and refrigerator. It made a great food prep area. Now the refrigerator is under the TV and the coffeemaker is next to the TV at the opposite end. With the refrigerator being in the cabinet under the tv, space for clothing is reduced. - Cabinet with the TV -- I broke several fingernails while trying to open the drawers. You need to have really tiny fingers to open the drawers. - There used to be a vanity in the room, which provided an additional area for personal care. That has been removed, and now it is an empty useless space. There is ample space for a vanity or cabinet or shelving, which is much-needed, given how small the bathroom is. - DECOR - nothing Hawaiian about it. Three different kinds of wood were used, and none of it matches. Knotty pine, white-washed. Looks like something you would see in an antique shop in Texas, not Hawaii. Three kinds of marble was used; none match. Small table on the deck looked like someone left their toolbox behind. It looked dirty and bloody. The only way we could use it was to put a towel over it. It was disgusting. Nightstands on each side of the bed appeared to be filthy, but it was part of the décor (?). The headboard looked like a horse stall. The art on the wall was colorless and not attractive at all. There is very little color in the room. The décor in NO WAY reflects the Aloha Spirit. - It was nearly impossible to find the pool area. The only signs were in Japanese. We teamed up with several other hotel guests, 6 or 7 of us roaming the hallways, trying to find the pool. - When it was time to leave (we had already paid in full), we called 30 minutes ahead to have bell-hop service for our luggage. They never showed up, so we had to schlepp our bags down by ourselves and almost missed our shuttle. Thankfully, our shuttle waited an extra 10 minutes, or we would have missed our flight. + PLUSES + - the mattress -- very comfortable. - the lamps at side of bed were nice. - the floral fragrance pumped in to the lobby area was very pleasant and soothing. We used to be regular guests at the Pacific Beach hotel. But now we will never stay there again. The rooms are over-priced and in no-way represent a 5-star resort. It was disappointing to see NOTHING of Hawaiian culture or history in the rooms.
