We have just returned home from a wonderful two week stay in Akumal. after a long flight we were feeling extremely tired and were greeted with a cool towel, welcome drink and chocolates. Checking in was easy and afterwards we were had a quick show round on the way to our room by Oscar who is lovely smiley and friendly and could see how tired we were so didn't hang around. Throughout our stay at Akumal Oscar helped us with any questions and would consider him a friend. Of course there are plenty of other staff at Akumal who are all brilliant, accommodating, hard working and caring. It is simply not possible to name them all but we will name a few: Ariel the Mixologist who is at the Sushi bar on the evenings makes some outstanding drinks (even one's he had never heard of) but also is genuinely a nice person. Gilberto-He works around the hotel doing different cleaning jobs (wears all white) he is always smiling when doing his jobs even when picking cigarette butts off the beach, his hard work is outstanding and was genuinely shocked when we tipped him. The grounds and maintenance team appear to work 24hrs a day to make sure the high standard is maintained, the team clearing the seaweed work tirelessly from when the sun rises till it goes down. The food is of a high standard, selection and quantity. Anyone who says different clearly wasn't looking hard enough or are too fussy. It is the best food we've had on a resort and didn't have a bad meal the whole 2 weeks. We tried every restaurant and enjoyed every single one. My partner is allergic to fish and he managed to eat a meal in every restaurant with no complaint including the Peruvian fusion, yes there is a lot of fish on the menu but there is other choices available to accommodate ( like my partner) There is plenty to keep you entertained from paddleboarding, cocktail lessons, salsa dancing and the list goes on. The main draw for us was the snorkelling, there is plenty of different fish to find but more importantly the TURTLES. You have to get up early but if you do and swim out the the triangle buoy in front of secrets hotel, I can guarantee you will see turtles we have picture evidence. Nilo who is the photographer on resort is excellent, he has a hilarious personality but what he does with a camera would leave many 'photographers' envious. Whether your a family or a couple or just some friends he will come up with the correct setting and context for your photos. We had our photos taken edited, put on disc and emailed to us all by the end of the day, a service you would wait weeks for in the UK. Sorry for the long review but this place deserves a good decent review. Pictures and peoples personal accounts cannot substitute actually visiting this amazing resort. Its the setting, the staff, the weather its everything all rolled up into one big paradise. We would 100% recommend visiting ABBWR and we will certainly we returning! Many thanks to all the staff!!

Visiting the Akumel Bay Beach and Wellness Resort for a destination wedding with family. Eight of us went out paddleboarding and we spent a great time in the morning out on the ocean with Mario leading the way! He is a great guide and strong paddle boarder - very patient if you are just learning! A great activity on a hot day with a seasoned helpful instructor!

I was there with 12 other ladies for a self lead Spiritual Retreat. First off ~ the grounds and hotel and the Yoga space are BEAUTIFUL! Great beach! The rooms are big and spacious. The beds are comfortable! So positives First ~ Luis the Beach Manager made our groups visit amazing!!! Luis was always there to help us out and truly took care of our group!!!!! Some amazing staff included ~ Luis, Wilber at the Lobby Bar, Hiram at the Yoga Studio went above and beyond to accommodate my large group! He's so friendly and kind! Irene and Omar were great too ~ Thank you so much! Like I said most of the staff are very friendly and helpful. All the staff at the main buffet were very accommodating and kind. The hotel is BEAUTIFUL! Things to work on ~ the food. I'm a massive foodie and found the food was NOT to my liking. It was poor. The restaurant food was simply ok at best and to be honest, odd. Very odd combinations, wrong food descriptions on the menus and truly was not good. Now with this being said I have only been to Sandles Resorts! Also as we were a large group of 13 ladies, the restaurants simply were NOT ACCOMMODATING to us as a group at all. In fact the gourmet restaurant refused to sit us as a total group, the same as the Mexican restaurant. The food at the Mexican restaurant was very odd. The food at the Asian fusion was full of seafood and shell fish, so I could not dine there as I am very illergic. I was hungry a lot of the time. I ate a ton of bread and butter. I ate most of my food at the breakfast buffet as I knew what most of the food was most of the food I choose was made to order ex: omlets and creps. The bacon was good! I not once saw staff taking food temptures at the buffet and some food was not refrigerated or just at room temperature. To be honest, I was afrid to eat some of it due to questionable food safety. I do have to state that most staff were friendly, nice and try hard!!! The drinks were not the best. But the vacation over all was ok. It's Mexico. It is different food, different availability of food and I'm not sure if any customer service lessons or Mixology courses have been offered to any staff. You get what you pay for and it is not a Sandles Resort. If your a foodie and love food, I can not recommend this hotel simply based on the poor food. I have traveled a ton and have never had staff not accommodate me or say no to me. Not sure if it was a language barrier or just bad service from some. Over all it was a ok experience but I was hungry most of the time.

Just returned from another super 2 week vacation at Akumal Bay Beach and wellness Resort, from April 5th to the 19th 2018. Our 4th year and certainly not the last. Love this resort for the beach, cleanliness, great food (even better than last year), the view and the staff. Everyone is always so friendly and helpful and that adds to a vacation. The waiters/waitresses at the buffet were always ready to accommodate our group of 13, which we appreciated very much. Must mention a few: Wilbur, Carlos, Luis, Francisco can't recall all their names ; beach waiters/servers Patricia, Marrebella, Yani, Sintia, Clemente ; Animation Samantha, Paulina, Paulina, Alex, Alex, Mario; paramedic Gerardo, Concierge Abel. Sorry I can't mention everyone on staff because they are all great at their jobs and seem to be happy there. Everyone in our group loves this resort and appreciates the friendly staff. Will return for sure! 😎

We never considered ourselves "resort people" but then we had kids. We feel like we struck gold when we found this place. We have been four times now in the past five years. First of all, it's not too big. It feels personal with familiar staff members who remember and take great care of you. Secondly, the food is delicious with the made-to-order omelettes in the morning, addictive guacamole all day, surprisingly good sushi and a nice selection of dinner restaurants. The rooms are comfortable and every room overlooks the ocean. We love the activities staff, including Mirna and Vanna and the two Paulinas :-) who took great care of our kids. And every one else who made us feel welcome and kept us entertained at the pool and on the dance floor. We also enjoyed great service in the restaurants and heard some great music. Loved some new performers this year, and seeing some of the familiar faces including the one-man band who comes by the beach every afternoon. Thanks very much for a very enjoyable and much needed vacation!
