We visited this hotel for our honeymoon in June, we chose it because of all the good reviews and it was recommended by a friend. Arrival - On arrival we were greeted to cold margaritas and cold towels which was very refreshing after a long flight! Check in was quick and a staff member took our bags to the room, room was nice and spacious, we received a free bottle of champagne of the hotel which was lovely! The beach - the beach is very nice, water is a nice temperature and seeing the turtles is amazing! There is a lot of seaweed but this can’t be helped and the staff work so hard clearing it all day. The food - the buffet restaurant we really liked, I had a variety of food and served beautiful salads! We tried 3/4 of the al la Carter restaurants and were not that impressed with any of them, the combinations were unusual and didn’t go well, we much preferred the buffet! The snack back by the pool was great for lunch, we went for breakfast on one occasion and the service was poor, we were not offered coffee for a long time, when we were offered it it never came! Wouldn’t have minded if it was busy but there was only a few people there! The sushi bar is amazing! The sushi delicious, the staff who work the the sushi bar including the bar and waiting staff are also amazing!! Special mention to Angela who was so attentive and lovely to talk to! The drinks - cocktails very nice, other drinks really nice too! Definitely try the different tequilas, when in Mexico! They served a nice cava but this was always in wine glasses and not in prosecco/cava glasses, asked the right glass and sometimes would get one sometimes they would say they don’t do them! The room was lovely and the hotel as well as it’s grounds very nice, the evening entertainment wasn’t very good, similar bands every night - very boring and repetitive. They did have a violist by the pool in the day who played beautifully, we loved him! We done a few trips out the xplor and playa Del Carmen as well as hired bicycles and went to the lagoon yal Ka I think it was called. Also recommend taking a walk to la Buena vida which is an excellent and unique bar/ restaurant about a 15 min walk away. We went into Akumal town as-well which was a nice walk. One more place to visit is coco bongos, it is an amazing show, I have never seen anything like it, people of all ages were there even a man out for his 80th birthday!! Overall we would recommend trying Akumal as we did have a good time, we wouldn’t personally return but glad we tried it!

We stayed at the ABBWR from July 10th-17th. It was our second time staying at the resort and we once again had a fabulous vacation! ABBWR is a lovely smaller resort. The beach is gorgeous, all rooms are located right next to the sea and the service is all around excellent. I had emailed the resort prior to our trip and was pleased upon arrival to see that our request had been granted. Abel showed us to our room. He was very nice and always made a point to say hello and ask how we were enjoying our trip when we came across him during our stay. We were very pleased with our room, you really cannot beat the gorgeous views of the beach, which is scarcely a few steps away. Our maid was very friendly and left us with adorable towel sculptures every day. The turn down service was also a nice treat. I had been concerned about the Sargassum prior to our departure, but was very relieved to see that it was not an issue during our stay. There were a few days with more seaweed than others, however, on these days the staff worked tirelessly in the heat to clear it up. The Sargassum did not in any way negatively impact our enjoyment of the beautiful beach. Snorkeling was very nice, we saw lots of turtles and different species fish. We also tried paddle boarding for the first time on this trip. German took both my son and myself out for our first lesson and was very nice and patient with my son. Afterwards, Christopher went above and beyond to further introduce my son to this sport that he is clearly passionate about. Christopher was amazing! Super energetic, generous with his time and very patient. It really was the highlight of the trip for my son. He even came to say goodbye before we left. We also decided to try a yoga class, we ended up trying "yoga of the elements" with Heather. My son and I were the only students in the class. Heather was great and it was lovely to practice yoga in such an idyllic setting. The food at the resort was very good, whether from the snack bar, buffet, room service or one of the a la carte restaurants. Our favorite restaurant was Alux (Mexican) in terms of food and service. They have a great team working at this restaurant and the coconut dessert is fabulous! In the past, when I have stayed at other resorts for a second time, I have always been a bit disappointed on the second visit. This was not the case with the ABBWR! We had an equally, if not even more amazing trip the second time around. We hope to return for a third time the following year and would not hesitate to recommend this resort!

We have just left after 10 days here and we weren’t disappointed. The staff are all so friendly and helpful, some special mentions for Ariel the mixologist making fantastic cocktails. For Marcelo ( sorry if I have spelt wrong) and Susanna at the block 3/4 beach bar, Wilbur at the lobby bar for making our daughter all of the Frappuccino’s and Mario for his patience and helpful hints when we did paddle boarding. Good choice of food across the restaurants, cooked well. Rooms spacious and we loved being on the ground floor with direct beach access. We had an issue with leaking water but when reported it was dealt with and we were given complimentary massages which were lovely. Only thing I would change about room is more light in the wardrobe area. We did Chichén Itzá and xel ha excursions booked with Juan at front desk and would recommend both. Well worth the walk to Yal ku lagoon with lunch at Buena Vida down the beach. Snorkelled every morning and saw several turtles without fail each morning also sting rays, electric ray and loads of marine life. Get up early to get a sunbed and don’t expect late nights here just chilled out evenings. Private transfers with USA transfers also thoroughly recommended . All in all a great stay. Thank you to everyone. The sargassum was a bit of a pain but doesn’t stop you enjoying the beach as the guys do a great job of keeping on top of it.
